Picking political allies, friends or relatives to top leaders

Many western media reported that Xi Jinping has consolidated his power and appointed his allies into the Politburo Standing Committee, which is the top decision making body of the Communist Party of China.

I find this narrative to be dishonest.

The above is a comment by Tan Kin Lian in his article posted in TRE. Tan Kin Lian said all political leaders did the same thing.

How many people agree or disagree with him? Is this a practice only in China? Did Singapore practise the same? Oops, let's not use Singapore for this discussion. Let's use the USA. Did the Americans practise the same, the President of USA appointing his allies to top positions? Did Biden do it? Did Trump do it?

In the case of Trump, I think he did not. This is not western practice as it portends some kind of corruption of power.  And Trump did not do it, or he did a bit of it. Trump only appointed his family members into power, his son in law, his daughter and dunno who. And this is different from appointing his allies like Bannon, Bolton and the likes. This is nepotism. Which is more serious? Appointing allies or family members? Or appointing allies plus family members?

Why is this an issue when Xi appointed his 'allies' who are top leaders that rose from the ranks and have proven themselves and had worked with Xi before? From another perspective, Xi had seen them worked and tested them and thus trusted them and their abilities. Xi needs able and trusted men to work with him when he is making decisions that affect the whole country of 1.4b people.

Where did Trump or Biden picked their allies from, other than family members? Many of them were not tested in government, some were just salesmen or koyok sellers from God knows where.

The Chinese system of picking able men that have proven themselves and handpicked by the President is a much better and meritorcratic system that the American system of anyhow pick anyone from anywhere, even from the bedroom.

What do you think?

  1. "all political leaders did the same thing" - that also applies to politics in corporations.

Many Sinkies had seen and complained of foreigners employing their own clansmen and promoting their own kind over better-qualified Singaporeans in companies here.

Those with more power can even place their own clansmen as heads in other companies.

  2. They will tell you that those placed are based on meritocracy. And Singaporeans have no talents so should just be taxi drivers and security guards as their degrees are worthless despite paying hundreds of thousands for them. Not worth a piece of toilet paper, definitely no better than a degree mill degree or a third world univerity degree.

  4. This is all mischievious and openly malicious reporting. Every elected Government does it, even the USA, the so called 'Beacon of Democracy'.

Trump even put his own favoured Judges in positions that will look after his interest. He puts his own people like John Bolton, Mike Pompeo, Steve Bannon, and even his own daughter and son-in-law, both unelected personnel, to run certain sectors of his establishment. So does Joe Biden. Are we to believe that the court case now in session about Trump's January 6th involvement or the raid on his Mar-a-lago is impartially conducted? It is all one big farce of trying to pull wool over citizen's eyes.

So, what is wrong with Xi putting his own loyal followers in his ruling establishment? And the West and MSM are just spouting evil and making a mountain out of a molehill, not realising they themselves are doing the exact same thing. Is it because they know that they cannot sabotage this arrangement, because all these men that Xi put in power are known loyalist?

In any case, it is not for the USA or the West to find fault with Xi's decision. It is for the people of China to decide, and I believe Chinese people have suffered badly enough to learn their lesson during the Opium War. And China does not need the USA or the West to tell China what to do. In fact, I do not believe the West has the moral authority to dictate to China what is good for them, after what they did to China during the Opium War. They planned to destroy China by dividing China up into concessions and sharing the pieces among themselves as their sphere of influence. What a joke? And the Japanese were part of this lawless Mafia group.

China has to be very careful of Japan. In fact many believe that Japan is still China's most dangerous enemy. Look at their belligerent behavior towards China over Taiwan. They are posturing to fight for Taiwan. Japan is capable of very, very sneaky military activities that are hidden away behind unsuspecting eyes. Why is Abe so adamant about reviving Japan's military? Does Japan have the nuclear bomb in secret, like Israel? With the USA supporting and prodding them, who knows? Aukus did spread nuclear weapons to Australia openly, so why not to Japan, in secret?

  5. It has been confirmed somewhere that Japan already possessed the Nuclear Capability, hiden in secret to the public eye.

  6. In the 60s or 70s, the evil Americans already sent to Japan 600kg of enriched uranium that could make at least 20 nuclear bombs under the lie that it was for research, just like the hunting of whales in the thousands annually for research. These kinds of white lies only fools would believe and only mischievous unscrupulous people would dare to spread.

The uranium loan to Japan was never returned.

  7. The white savages have set a dangerous precedent in blowing up the gas pipelines in international waters. Now all the pipelines, communication lines, power lines etc in international waters could be hit. Russia could target any of these lines to avenge the blowing of the gas pipelines.

Everyone is looking at the precedents set by the white savages and would use them against the Americans when times come. Sanctions, assassinations, sale of weapons, arrest of private individuals, confiscation and freezing of funds, weaponisation of money, technology, banking systems, communication system, spread lies, massacres, spreading biochemical weapons, hitting targets using cruise missiles etc etc. Everything the Americans have done would be turned against them.

  8. The 'in and out, hear them shout' PMs of Little Britain can continue their shout of decoupling from China. Boris Johnson, Liz Truss and now Rishi Sunak are singing the same old song of decoupling from China. Yet, British and non British Manufacturing continue to depart from Little Britain. Most to Europe for it's market. Latest to report departing is BMW, and it is going to China. The same thing is happening in the EU, with BASF, Volkswagan and Mercedes reportedly shifting the bulk of their production to China, where energy and wages are cheaper and inflation lower.

Politicians in Europe and Little Britain can continue to threaten about decoupling from China, but it is the CEOs of big manufacturing conglomerates who decides where and who they want to do business with. Even CEOs have to make decisions based on what investors and shareholders want, as making profit is the prime objective. Europe and Little Britain are too expensive for manufacturing and with cheap Russian energy unlikely to be available, even if the Ukraine conflict winds down, as Russia has found a more stable and bigger market for it's energy in China, India and Saudi Arabia among others.

The current chips war will inevitably cause China to suffer a couple of years, but after China becomes self sufficient in it's domestic market, other chipmakers of the world will regret their having taken part in literally forcing China to retaliate. They will lose the China market for good.

Russia and China are too big to be taken down. Russian energy is decimating Europe the most, while China has a big market for chips and cannot be ignored by chip makers. The USA and the West can try taking them down at their own peril.

  9. Not only will chipmakers lose the domestic China market, they will face the prospect of having to compete with China in the global market as well. It will be a double whammy and some may have to close shop altogether.

  10. After Brexit, Britain has lost the European market. Now it is decoupling with China, cutting off the biggest market for British products. Britain will now depend on the American and Indian markets to trade and also the Commonwealth. The latter is basically the AngloSaxon countries. The rest of the Commonwealth countries would not be able to pay for British products as the cheaper substitutes from China would replace the need to buy British.

Can India replace the China market?

    ReplyDelete
  11. India can replace the China market if you just look at the population growth.

What is more important is can British products be cheap enough for the Indian market? Going forward, products made in Little Britain and Europe will get more expensive with cheap energy no more available. If Little Britain and European products cannot even compete in China against similar Chinese products made in China, who would think it is possible for them to compete in the Indian market? Unless the Indian Government pass a law to say must only buy European products. There will be a revolution in India.

  12. The point is only the USA can resort to nepotism, but not others.

Only the USA can influence other countries but other countries, like China, are demonised for doing that.

Only the USA can be biggest economy, others are not allowed to surpass it. They killed off Japan and Germany, and is trying very hard to kill off China as well.

Only the USA can nuke another country, but other countries are forbidden to have nuclear weapons. Now Iran is in the cross-hairs of the USA for it's nuclear program.

Only the USA can send warships to other country's backyard, but other countries are forbidden to do that to the USA. Even China's attempt in even investing in ports in Africa and South America is a bad idea to them.

Only the USA can steal technology by forcing Samsung and TSMC to hand over sensitive documents, that in essence is stealing their technology, but phrased it in more unsuspecting terms. What difference is that with USA companies in China?

The world is sick and tired of USA's unilateral behaviour.

  13. In the USA's system, only the very rich can afford to vie for power and rule. The less well off can only be ruled. Therefore, the system stifles the talented, who may not be rich enough to afford the campaigns or rubbing shoulders with other super rich who will sponsor them with contributions for their campaigns.

That is why the USA is unable to progress, only regress. Empires always suffer from this disease. This is what we might call 'inbreeding', which produces more and more of those who rose to rule, but invariably possessing less and less mental capabilities to bring the country forward.
