China must exercise to limit the export of Rare Earth to its well-known Enemy, the USA. Such strategic resources can be used to safeguard its national security and integrity.
Pentagon suspended deliveries of the F-35 fighter jet in Sep 2020, after it discovered the aircraft's engine manufactured by Honeywell uses a magnet that includes a cobalt and samarium alloy, which does not comply with US procurement laws. It immediately waive the need to import Rare Earth from China. With the waiver, the Pentagon will accept all aircraft under the current contract, projected up to Oct 2023.
Although an alternative source for the metal will be found and used in the future, the Joint Program Office of the F-35 is still boggling in the air.
China has a leading edge in the production of Rare Earth. Any US attempt to remove China-origin alloy imports from military equipment is almost a mission impossible from both short-term and long-term.
China is the only country in the World that has developed the ability to extract samarium and cobalt Rare Earth metals, which means the middle product samarium oxide is almost 100 percent made in Chinese factories. It also accounts for over 70 percent of the final product samarium-cobalt Rare-Earth magnet.
China-made neodymium magnets - another main type of Rare Earth magnets that are widely used in electric machinery for a host of electronic products - also representing 85 percent of the global share - another piece of evidence demonstrating China's overwhelming position in the global Rare-Earth industry.
Research and development as well as production of many advanced weapons and equipment cannot be done without Rare Earth.
Also, Chinese Rare Earth products might also be found on many other US weapons and equipment.
With the US using them for military purposes that could harm China's sovereignty, territorial integrity and development interests, China must
apply more strict export controls on such strategic products.
The F-35s are deployed in bases in Japan, Singapore and South Korea and on US aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships, posing frequent security threats to China without provocations.
In addition, Lockheed Martin, is also one of the US Arms sanctioned by China for selling weapons and equipment to the island of Taiwan, a move that seriously violates China's sovereignty and security interests.
For all intents and purposes, therefore, China must exercise full control of the exports of Rare-Earth magnets to any country, especially to the well-known Enemy, the Evil USA!

PS. Main article in Global Times.
Russia also controls many essential items for semi-conductor manufacturing eg Neon, a by product of steel manufacturing. That product actually is from Eastern Ukraine, a steel production hub, which is now under Russian control.
ReplyDeleteChina is also a very important steel manufacturing and exporting hub, and I am sure they also have their own NEON output facilities to help their own chip industry.
Who is going to bear the brunt of the NEON shortage? Taiwan and South Korea will be greatly affected, which is why their chip manufacturing is now greatly hampered by being unfriedly to both Russia and China. The USA itself is feeling the pressure as well, with their EV manufacturing curtailed by falling chip production due to shortage of raw materials.
Because of America First, everyone can be thrown under the bus. Ukraine, all the EU countries, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Australia, doesn't matter as long as it serves American interests.
ReplyDeleteTSMC and Samsung would be half of what they are now if they give in to American pressure and coercion.
Saudi and OPEC have shown the Americans the middle finger by cutting oil production. Now the Americans are planning to invade Saudi or assassinate MBS.
Yes, the USA is really, really desperate now with OPEC+ cutting production. The thinking is that the USA may invade Venezuela or Iran and take over the oil. The invasion of Saudi Arabia and assassination of MBS is also a move that some think is on the cards, if the USA cannot find a solution to their oil and gas price going through the roof and fueling the inflation monster.
ReplyDeleteHowever, should the USA carry out an invasion of Venzuela, Iran or Saudi Arabia, isn't that also against 'Principles'. And will the world of the 'Principled' do something about it after talking about 'Principles' with regard to the Liberation of Ukraine by Russia? Will double standard kick in again? On second thought, what can they do besides talking about 'Principles' when it comes to the Evil Hegemon.
And we can be sure that Russia and China will not just stand idly by and allow that to heppen. Like Syria, the Russians will surely step in. And many South American countries, Muslim countries and Arab countries will not let that happen without a global revolution.
Those who are often opening their mouths by standing on Principles will have a field day standing.
DeleteIf what is reported is true, Europe households are stocking up on firewood for winter. They are going back to the stone age or wooden age.
ReplyDeleteSome are burning rubbish, cow and horse dung as fuel. That is really deperate.
Forget about saving the earth when they cannot save themselves.
China's rare earth are being used for USA weapons that could be used against China and is a clear and present security threat. China must take the necessary action to stop that. Xi must start to sign 'executive orders' to ban the export of rare earth materials to the USA.
ReplyDeleteChina must do what the USA did to Huawei, and many other areas like chips, and not to forget all the prohibitions imposed on China over the decades, including banning China access to the ISS, jet engine technology, rocketry and space exploration among others. All these are at the insistence of the USA, which you can be sure of that.
China must not be kind hearted to the Evil USA.
ReplyDeleteUSA is China's Public Enemy Number One. So, never show any mercy or kindness to USA.
Cut off all strategic assets from the USA. They are already using their F35s and other stealth aircrafts against China and the Chinese people.
President Xi Jinping must always bear this in mind: USA is China's Public Enemy Number One.
Never sleep with your Enemy!
