This whole thing of being investigated for holding a playcard without a permit is getting ridiculous. It is now PAP MP Louis Ng at the receiving end of the police investigation for holding a playcard to support hawkers.
This is similar to Jolovan Wham’s case where he held a placard with a smiley face in front of a police station and got charged for it.
Another absurdity was when the police charged and fined Jolovan Wham for organizing a conference over skype.
A third man was charged for protesting alone outside the US embassy in Singapore.
Where is this all bringing us to? We are slowly turing into a police state. The govenrment seems to be intolerant of dissenting voices and prosecuting even at the slightest transgression with a sledge hammer.
The above is posted by Osman Bin Sulaiman in TRE. This is an assembly, an illegal assembly of one man and a placard according to Singapore law. Really dunno what to say. Anywhere in the world got this kind of law? Would Myanmar's generals be calling the Singapore govt to protest and say this is not democracy? Would it be an illegal assembly if the words were printed on the T shirt? Would someone wearing a T shirt printed with the words, 'Screw You' or 'Love You' also be guilty of illegal assembly?
My advice to all in Singapore, for your own sake and own good, do not wear T shirts or blouses with printed words on it. Just to be on the safe side.
Is this getting too far, too absurd? What do you think? It must be good for Singapore. Really?
Wear T-shirts or blouses with printed words "We love PAP" sure can!
ReplyDeleteGeorge Orwell wrote in his book "1984" about the Police State, the draconian and extremism practised by the Over-Powerful State, at will and whims, against its powerless and helpless people.
ReplyDeleteHis prediction is materialising in Singapore - where the PAP has been enjoying unfettered power over the people for more than 50 years.
When a governing body enjoys unfettered powers, without independent checks and balances, it soon develops automatically into an extreme authoritarian system permeating each and every aspect of governance - within the Executive, the Judiciary and the Legislative.
It is now clear that Singapore has developed to such an absurdity that even one person is now interpreted by the law, the police, the prosecutor, the court and the judge as an illegal assembly, for the sole purpose of suppressing dissenting views and expressions.
It simply defies the logic, the definition and the common sense of the world and mankind,
with total disregard for human decency, decorum, dignity and respect.
This absurd state of affairs must not be allowed to go on and on. Otherwise, it will become a Lawless, Ruthless, Monstrous State of Attrocity, not a Singapore City.
The police are so hardworking and so busy investigating people holding placards.
ReplyDeleteUnder a leader who has no interest in politics, but was made to become a politician, and lacks self-confidence and cannot take criticism, the country naturally becomes a police state.
ReplyDeleteThe presence of thousands of CCTV cameras installed at every loop and corner, and still much more has been projected to be installed, attests to the existence of a Police State.
Got people write they need the cctv footage, dont have. And than got people write police is to serve the master. After what I went thru, quite tally leh. Those people is damn smart. Other Asian Tigers is it got Samsung or Huawei? Singapore import FT got what? Okay, sinkies are daft nvm. Cannot blame FT also. Everything can be control mah. FT cannot invent things or got fake degrees still got job also cannot blame them. Got ppl write sinkies are daft and pinkie is the clown leh. Those alternative news is superb. KAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKA. Let build more HDB and increase population to honor hong tou jing. Drive taxi also jiak baey liao. Shiok ah.
ReplyDeleteRefer to headline: "One man illegal assembly. Yes, only in Sickapour."
ReplyDeleteAgree many of you that the millionaire politicians here lack self-confidence and cannot take criticism. I think actually that one-man illegal assembly is to target those oppositions, and now ordinary peoples are at risk, i.e. might be arrested if not careful. Because for any situation, they decide whether your with us or against us. Ridiculous, indeed !
It is also same that when come to collection $$$$millions salaries, they decide for themselves without fuss. The greed for more money or misuse of money, whether is taxpayers or not, is the root of all evils.
Hahaha.....
ReplyDeleteU don't know meh? How can?
This is Sg! Understand?
Hahaha..
This is a 'National Shame'!
ReplyDeleteOur leaders have mouths to criticise others, but what are they doing themselves?
The installation of so many video cameras is already as clear as crystal that we are a 'police state'. On the surface it is claimed those cameras are for citizen's safety, but underneath the warp mind it is not so innocent a step.
ReplyDeleteBut Sinkies, as always, are easily fooled. We have seen that a few lollipops and chicken wings will do wondrous things,
To the PAP being the laughing stock to the world is alright. Their hide has become so thick, their brain so soft and their conscience gone to sleep that they are immune to what people think of them. They must be the envy of all the politicians in the whole world. They can pay themselves however much they like, do or don't do or sleep in their job, bend the rules, change the laws and constitution and still get voted in again and again and again.
ReplyDeleteHold up smiley kena jail..what happens if u hold up blank cardboard? The law oso can construe it to be a form of protest... wonder who will be the first to kena jail for holding the up blank piece of paper
ReplyDeleteWhat about holding a laptop computer or tablet with a smiley face on it ? Or wearing a t-shirt with a smiley face on it ? Are these considered offences in the eyes of millionaire politicians or a permit is required by them ?
ReplyDeleteFrankly speaking we are not proud to be called the first world country when they rule the country with iron fist. Our peoples are becoming paranoid and fearful, and less creative. They want to try something new but worries get down on them. Why do the highest paid politicians in the whole planet have a very low mentality ?
