Britain opens its door to Hongkongers, a win win situation for all

HONG KONG: Hong Kong residents can apply from Sunday (Jan 31) afternoon for a new visa offering them an opportunity to become British citizens after Beijing's imposition of a national security law in the Asian financial hub last year.

The move comes as China and Hong Kong have said they will no longer recognise the British National Overseas (BNO) passport as a valid travel document from Sunday, Jan 31....

Britain says it is fulfilling a historic and moral commitment to Hong Kong people after Beijing imposed the security law on the semi-autonomous city that Britain says breaches the terms of agreements under which the colony was handed back to China in 1997.

"We have honoured our profound ties of history and friendship with the people of Hong Kong, and we have stood up for freedom and autonomy," Prime Minister Boris Johnson said of the scheme this week.

The UK government forecasts the new visa could attract more than 300,000 people and their dependents to Britain. Beijing said it would make them second-class citizens....

The BNO passport will be available to a huge number of people - about 70 per cent of Hong Kong's 7.5 million population.

Applications for BNO passports have skyrocketed more than 300 per cent since the national security law was imposed last July, with 733,000 registered holders as of mid-January.

Britain predicts up to 154,000 Hong Kongers could arrive over the next year and as many as 322,000 over five years, bringing an estimated "net benefit" of up to £2.9 billion (US$4 billion).  CNA

This British offer, objectively speaking, is the best thing to happen for Britain, Hong Kong and China. To the British, it is an act of redemption for ruling the Hongkongers for 150 years. It is payback time to the Hongkongers that had served the British Empire for so long, with no rights to elect their govt, no democracy to talk about. The British owe a debt to ensure that the Hongkongers are well look after, ever since they left them in 1997.

The British would also gain a people that is hardworking with very good capitalist skills that would help Britain to overcome this down period after Brexit. Britain's economy will grow like Singapore will more the increase in population, more people and more consumption, and more buyers for houses.

To Hong Kong, those that love to be British citizens would now have a way out legally, and can sing God Save the Queen to their hearts' content. The Hongkongers that do not want to live as Chinese citizens can have their choice, to be what they want and not remain in Hong Kong, to be unhappy and to create trouble.

To China, as long as Britain is happy, the Hongkongers are happy, it is a win win situation and the trouble makers can all leave Hong Kong, China for good. There is no point for China to want to hold back Hongkongers that do not want to be Chinese citizens. Let them go, give them the blessing for a new life in Britain.

This is the best positive news for Hong Kong and China, and Britain as well. With the door to Britain open, Hongkongers that do not want to be Chinese should take up the offer and go. Those that remain should live their lives as Chinese citizens going forward. This is the opportunity to make their choice either way. No one is forcing them to stay. No one is forcing them to go.

  1. Why Singaporeans not offered this when Singapore became independent or when Singapore became part of Malaysia. Or when the Japanese occupied Singapore?

  2. Vaccine Injury Financial Assistance Programme for those who develop serious side effects

The Ministry for Health has unveiled a new scheme, the Vaccine Injury Financial Assistance Programme (VIFAP), to provide financial aid to those who may, unfortunately, develop serious side effects to the COVID-19 vaccine. Although these potential side effects will be rare, the scheme will act as a safeguard, and will cover citizens, permanent residents, and long-term pass holders.

The VIFAP is "anticipated" (meaning unconfirmed, speculative) to provide the following tiers of financial support:

A one-time payout of up to S$10,000 will be provided to an eligible individual who is hospitalised requiring care in the High Dependency or Intensive Care Unit but subsequently recovers from medically significant serious side effects.

A one-time payout of S$225,000 will be provided to an individual who dies or suffers permanent severe disability as a result of COVID-19 vaccination.

To qualify for the Programme, the individual must have received the vaccine in Singapore and must have experienced a potentially life-threatening or fatal side effect that required inpatient hospitalisation or had otherwise caused persistent incapacity or disability.

An independent panel has been assembled to assess and adjudicate the applications for the Programme.

    Questions:

    1. Why is it called a "programme"? Does it mean the victims of the vaccines are being programmed to receive such financial aid?

    2. Why not call a spade a spade. Instead of playing with words, simply call it a COMPENSATION for causing damage to a person's health due to the application of the experimental vaccines?

  4. Why God should save the Queen? God should save the world. God must save the Africans and Asians living in slums. Why save someone as rich and powerful as the Queen?

  5. For China, those leaving Hong Kong is a blessing in disguise. China should not waste too much time thinking or talking about it. It is good riddance.

The UK is struggling with Brexit right now and is yet to see the effects, especially whether the exodus of EU businesses will affect employment opportunities. Those Hongkies can go and compete with the Whites for jobs. There will be plentiful of them as imagined by the UK Government.

I like the part where the MSM said that' Merkel will make the UK crawl on broken glass after Brexit'.

  6. Many African countries are still paying debt to UK for giving them independence. Can you believe that? The Brits robbed these countries of their wealth and still got the cheek to demand compensation for returning the land to the native owners.

  7. I now think 'Commonwealth' means all the wealth goes to the rulers of the old empire, not wealth benefiting those members in Africa or Asia. Look at India, a member of the 'Commonwealth' but still wallowing in poverty, with much of it's wealth pilfered and spirited away to benefit the coloniser.

Commonwealth does not mean the sharing of wealth obviously. It is a one way street of lying, stealing and cheating the people of those colonies they ruled.

Virgo, the whole UK National Anthem is all about the Queen. What a joke!

  10. Agree with Virgo. The Brits had killed too many people during their colonisation, in India, in Africa, China and all over their Empire.

Not only the Queen needs to be saved, all the descendants of the evil and cruel colonial masters need to be save for their crimes against humanity.

How to fight 2 battle at the same time? Maybe UK can, for Rule Britainnia once conquered and controlled nearly half the world.

  11. Now the USA is making trouble for Myanmar. Stirring up the Rohingya issue did not split the loyalties of the Myanmar people for a regime change, only what people outside the country thinks, particularly those 'human rights' protagonists. They only highlight one side of the story as always.

The USA first response has always been sanctions, to make the people suffer and rebel. But Myanmar, like North Korea, has live through that for decades. Largely agrarian with mining activities, Myanmar can live through those sanctions.

And with trade with China through their Northern border still available, sanctions will not be that easy or serious enough to cripple the country. Cuba, with more than 50 years of USA sanctions is still in existence today with no rebellion.

  12. Hongkongers who dislike China and being Chinese, preferring to embrace the Whitemen's soft prick, should seize this opportunity and exit in hordes.

China should pretend to make a lot of noise but should quietly celebrate. Good riddance to bad rubbish!

In the mean time, use this opportunity to plant some "sleepers" for use as the fifth column later on, in times of war.

  13. 'Great Britain' also owns almost the whole world. Now, what are they? United Kingdom for now, with Scotland eyeing independence. Then what? Oh yes, they still can call themselves 'British Isles', the last vestige of the 'Great Britain' empire.

  14. The USA can break up into several states with some rule by white supremacists, some by black majorities, some return to the native Americans and some mixed states.

There can be many presidents. There can be dictatorship like Dictator Trump taking over Georgia or Florida. All the state governors can become presidents of their own states.

Don't let the PAP have ideas leh. If Sinkies sell their HDB and leave for UK, PAP will import more Indians to take over their place. It is a win win situation for the PAP and Indians.

  16. If the USA breaks up into smaller states, Trump and Biden do not have to fight. Each can rule his own state. Maybe even Trump's children can each rule their own state. Then also no need to talk about stealing elections and insurrection and peace will prevail.

But what if their bad habits, like starting wars, take over? Then they will wage wars against each other. That will be real messy.

  17. UK has already broken up. It has lost Southern Ireland.

It is going to lose Scotland, when Scotland declares independence. It is only a matter of time. Not if but when.

The Brexit problems will become unmanageable and affects Scotland seriously. Scotland would want to join the European Union, to enjoy the bigger common market, just like South Ireland.

Then North Ireland will follow suit.

Then North and South Ireland plus Scotland can form a loose mini-union under the European Union's umbrella.

After that Wales will join them, leaving Britain by itself twiddling its fingers and toes, looking like a court jester. By then Boris Johnson would have been long gone, died of Covid-19 reinfection.

  20. Ottawa [Canada], February 1 (ANI): China has temporarily blocked the entry of foreign nationals from Canada, the Beijing embassy in Ottawa said on Monday.

The new rule will also affect all foreign nationals who hold valid Chinese residence permits for work, personal matters and reunion.

In a statement, the embassy said that the suspension is a temporary measure that China has to take in light of the current pandemic situation.

"In view of the current Covid-19 situation and the need of epidemic prevention and control... all foreign nationals who hold valid Chinese residence permits for work, personal matters and reunion are temporarily not allowed to enter China from Canada," the embassy said in a statement on Saturday.

A few categories of visa holders, including those with diplomatic stamps, would be exempted."The suspension is a temporary measure that China has to take in light of the current pandemic situation," the statement added.

Canada has so far recorded more than 775,000 COVID-19 cases and nearly 20,000 deaths. (ANI)

  21. Hi RB,
    sorry off topic..
could you do a write up on the following pork from the evil americun:
"Taiwan lawmakers approve imports of additive-fed US pork"

Taiwanese may not eat this shit..but they will process the pork into eg..can food, pork floss, lap cheong, seasoning for instant noodle..etc

then export to other countries. understand that china had ban pork import from taiwan.

    thanks

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi Anon 6:12pm, the import of pork with banned chemicals into Taiwan is a political issue. As long as the Taiwanese are happy to eat pork tainted with dangerous substance, then let it. They die their business.

Yes, China has banned all food products from Taiwan that have pork in it. The Taiwanese may want to poison themselves but China would not allow them to poison Chinese in mainland China.

This the same as silly countries allowing products from Fukushima, an area highly contaminated with radio active material, to be imported for their people to consume. Let them be if they don't mind their people being contaminated.

Anyone wish to take up this offer to write about this subject?

  23. The Brits are lucky to be able to sail this leaking aircraft carrier all the way from Europe to the South China Sea without it sinking into the sea half way.

The serviceability of this not seaworthy carrier is in the same category as the Indian aircraft carrier that spends more time in the dock than on the high seas because of leaking problems as well. Both are not sea worthy and a danger to their crews.

As I said in my article, this would be a sitting duck, like the American carriers. It could join the Repulse and Prince of Wales in their burial ground in the South China Sea. A has been Empire still living in the past and foolishly believing that it is still a world power.

  24. A win win solution for all. China will be glad to rid the trouble makers, the quitters will get to enjoy new lives in the United Kingdom, and Britain will be happy to welcome them with open arms. Good solution, no more trouble in HK and no more headaches for the HK government.

  25. Tsai and her DPP are cunning political opportunists. They were trailing to the popular Kaoshiung mayor and Nationalists until the HK democracy protests gave them a lifeline. They hardened their policies on China, preyed on the fears of the Taiwanese voters about China and supporting the HK protests and the US role in them and the region. Having won another term by landslide, now turn their backs on the Hk protesters even denying entry to some fleeing by boat.At least whiteman UK is true to their support in offering abode to HK BNO passport holders.

  26. The UK already has enough troubles of their own and allowing these Hong Kong trouble makers in will accelerate their sinking ship. Unless these Hongkies live a 'mousey' lifestyle over there, a little trouble created by them will turn the Whites against them for sure. Then there will be fighting for jobs, with unemployment figuring prominently with Brexit.

Hongkies are largely Cantonese people. Some people said that Cantonese people will fight till the end for their cause. Let's just wait and see.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anyone think the silly Hongkies when in UK would dare to protest in the streets of London? They would be clobbered like how they clobbered anyone with yellow skins.

In UK the Hongkies would be as meek as a mouse. Think they dare to demand for democratic rights? BNO is treating them like second class citizens and they are grabbing it with glee.

    A shameless breed.

  28. @ 10:25 am

According to my grandpa, traditionally there is a saying:

    Teochew kueh teow,
    Hokkien mee,
    Hainan coffee,
    Macao chee.

In the old days, the Chinese people generally referred to Cantonese as Macao people. Macao chee means Cantonese cheeby.

That means Cantonese people are famous for PROSTITUTION. Their women become prostitutes and their men become pimps and "soft-food eaters".
