Professor Martin Jacques in his recent lecture talked about the western expectations of China that led to its rise in the short span of 40 years from poverty to world supremacy. There were two assumptions that the West made and expected of China. It was too poor and backward to catch up with America and the West in economic well being and everything. Secondly, if China were to become richer and more successful, it would become more democratic or be like the Americans. Both turned out to be false and by 2014 China's economy was already bigger than the Americans on parity purchasing power terms and also, China is still China and not an inch closer to the American democratic system. The Americans regard the latter as bad and China's rise must be put to and end. But it is not going to be easy and not going the American and western way.
The disappointments were manifested in 5 big 'unexpectations' in the West. For years and decades, the Americans have been singing their favourite song written by a Gordon Chang, claimed to be a Chinese but looked like a Japanese and hating everything Chinese, that China is about to implode and collapse, broken up and become a failed state. This sad story did not happen and China is growing stronger and stronger by the day. But this Japanese looking Chinese is still a hot favourite to be invited to badmouth China even after his silly expectation of China failed to materialise. He is still hoping that it will, one day.
The next unexpectation of the West, according to Martin Jacques, is that China would suffer a financial crisis. It did not, it was America and the West that was hit by the financial crisis and some went bankrupt, with some gone and some teethering to topple over in Europe.
Another unexpectation is political crisis. It did not happen in China but in the West. The American manipulated mass protests on the streets of Hong Kong is now history. The mass protests are now daily occurrence in many American cities and in some European cities and getting worse by the day. And the biggest political crisis, expecting and hoping for Xi Jinping and his CCP to be toppled turned into a rude shock when Xi has extended his leadership for life while the CCP is getting more than 90 per cent support from the Chinese people. On the other hand, America is sunk into a political crisis that threatens to break up the United States into a Disunited States with Trump claiming that the American democratic election process is flawed, corrupted, easily rigged and cannot be trusted. Trump is now planning to conduct a coup against president elect Biden. The political crisis in the US is now an international joke.
And then came Covid19, a virus planted in China and China was expected to crumbled with millions of Chinese dead by the pandemic. The unexpectation, the virus left China after being effectively curbed and controlled and flew over to Europe and the USA, ravaging every city and state and with the number of infections and deaths on top of the world and growing and growing rapidly, unstoppable.
And the trade war launched by Trump to cripple China's economy is turning out to become another painful unexpectation for the Americans. China's economy is as good as back on its feet and growing, back to normal. The American economy and the economies of the West are still under lockdown and in negative territory. How come, how can? Did not Trump said he won?
The rise of China is unstoppable. The decline and fall of the West, especially America, is the final unexpectation that they did not see coming, refuse to see it coming, in a numb state of denial.
When Trump won in 2016, the US Elections System was not rigged, no frauds, no Russian interference, not corrupted, just Perfect.
ReplyDeleteWhen Trump lost by a big margin of Biden 306 vs Trump 232 colateral-damage votes ("electoral votes" is a misnomer), the US Elections System is rigged, corrupted, full of fraudulent vote-counting, just horrible.
He is the sitting President, the Commander-in-Mischief and in control of the US Administration, so if the US Elections System is so bad under his watch, then he must be the one or his Administration must be the one that rigged, corrupt and fraudulently meddled with the vote-counts. This is only logical. The fingers must all point to him, not anybody else.
How can Trump, watching from the top of the world with the vulture's or eagle's eyes, allow the US Elections System to be rigged, corrupted and defrauded?
Come on, Donald Trump, be wise a bit lah. Don't be so muddled up. When you point one of your fingers at others, your other fingers point back at you. You are the culprit! A deliberate culprit. Period.

Good riddance to the traitors club. What a blessing they resigned themselves. Hongkong can recover and improve once they are gone. I already noticed the govt announced low cost subsidised housing project on large scale. These are the kind of stuff politicians should concentrate on, not collusion with west to condemn anything from china. Hkg 加油

Once fully integrated into China proper, the Hongkongers would have bigger and cheaper housing to live in and and better quality of life. No more cage residents and supermini flats that cost a bomb.
ReplyDeleteAnd those that want to leave are welcome in UK, Canada, Australia and the USA to live in bigger houses. Win win for all.
Voters in four states who had brought longshot lawsuits to disrupt President-elect Joe Biden's win and went nowhere in court have withdrawn their cases.
ReplyDeleteTrump thinks that by crippling the Chinese tech sector with all the calls to the rest of the world to distance themselves from Chinese Tech Companies is going to led to a collapse of the Chinese innovative spirit. But this is also going to make China even more determined to succeed, like the North Koreans nuclear program under decades of USA sanctions.
ReplyDeleteChina is now into 6G, it's tech sector is still surviving and innovating and the economy is recovering fast and life is returning to normal for the Chinese people. China may be at the receiving end of isolation initiated by the USA, but is inventing itself to be dependent on internal demands. Just look at the annual singles day sale of $74 billion notched up by Alibaba.
The USA is still struggling with the control of the virus, becoming a more and more divisive society in the process, harbouring a long simmering racial divide that is set to explode and a political system that is a joke in the eyes of the world. Were that to happen in any other third world country, they will laugh and ridicule. But they are now afraid to look at themselves in the mirror.
Oh yeah, they will have the vaccine soon. But to report that Moderna is ramping up production of the vaccine, even before approval by the FDA is rather confusing. In other words it's use is guaranteed even if the FDA fails to give the go ahead for any reason. Or putting the cart before the horse is now the new normal for the FDA to give the USA the head start they so desire, like the moon landing and the nuclear bomb?
Playing the loser's game may make the USA appear great again, but capitulating empires all follow the same pattern to downfall eventually.
The USA elections have been rigged by both parties all through the years. Only thing is that losing candidates have never attempted to shame the country and the election system blatantly in the eyes of the world, notably showing those countries under communism all it flaws and failures. The high ground of democracy must never be brought down to a level comparable to communism.
ReplyDeleteTrump is the only odd one out with the marbles to dig out all the dirt of the systemic corruption, but as you can see, the system is out to make sure he does not succeed. All his legal endeavours will be blocked and end up in failure, for to succeed it will be an affront to the democratic system of the USA.
Actually, Trump did not and have not mount any legal battle to prove that the voting was rigged. He said and tweeted only. It is his supporters who have been mounting the legal battles and rejected by the various federal courts for filmsy insubstantial evidenc, and they are now withdrawn voluntarily by the same supporters. That means it was all party of a "Reality Show" without substance.
ReplyDeleteTherefore, Trump did not actually got the balls to expose any fraud or corruption in the US Elections System. He is truly a Big Coward!
There is a certain limit as to how far a US President can go. The JFK is the line drawn. If Trump goes along the same wave length as JFK had done, rest assured he will end up with the same fate as JFK. HE KNOWS IT TOO.
ReplyDeleteSo, it is all a Reality Show, like a small boy throwing tantrums.
"...Covid19, a virus planted in China and China was expected to crumbled with millions of Chinese dead by the pandemic "
ReplyDeleteI wonder who planted it? Could it be Pompeo or maybe even Trump!
Kind Regards JC
Covid-19 was planted by the US military under the supervision and financial support of the CIA and ordered by the Secretary of Defense to annihilate or reduce the Chinese population, starting from the very centre of China (Wuhan) and spread outwards from there to every other provinces of China.
ReplyDeleteThis military operation was planned at least two years ahead (in 2017). And Bill Gates was involved in one way or another.
That means the COVID-19 virus was already in existence in the US Secret Military Laboratories - at least in two places known so far - well before October 2019, the time that it was planned in Wuhan.
Trump came to know about it only after the evil deed was done under the orders of the Secretary of Defense, who claimed that Trump had approved the covert operation (all military covert operations have to be approved by the Commander-in-Chief). But Trump claimed that he did not approve it. That's why he fired the Secretary of Defense.
However, the fact that Trump has been attributing blame on China and calling it the China Virus means he is complicit in the deadly game. He cannot now wriggle away from the responsibility.
The lives of millions upon millions of people around the world have been affected and more than one million people have been killed by the COVID-19 virus. The extent of damage and casualties is yet to be ascertained because the infection is still on the rampage in USA, India, Brazil, Latin America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Russia, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Philippines and Indonesia.
The 3rd Wave of infections is just starting to be felt.
USA Musing to Use Singapore as Base for New Navy Fleet to Fight China
ReplyDelete"We want to stand up a new numbered fleet," Secretary of the United States Navy Kenneth Braithwaite said, "and we want to put that numbered fleet in the crossroads between the Indian and the Pacific Oceans, and we're really going to have an Indo-Pacom footprint. We have to look to our other allies and partners like Singapore, like India, and actually put a numbered fleet where it would be extremely relevant if, God forbid, we were to ever get in any kind of a dust-up."
"So we're going to create the First Fleet," he said. "And we're going to put it, if not Singapore right out of the chocks, we're going to look to make it more expeditionary-oriented and move it across the Pacific until it is where our allies and partners see that it could best assist them as well as to assist us."
China is unlikely to remain indifferent to US moves aimed at inciting countries to gang up against China in the long run. It's inevitable that China will take some sort of countermeasures. This is very dangerous for countries used as US tools. A strategic risk for a tool to be damaged in a military confrontation is certainly higher than that of a user, Chinese experts said.
Beijing warned that regional countries should better not create confrontations with China under the instigation of the US, or unwisely let the US rope them in to contain China. They will surely pay a corresponding price if China's national interests are infringed upon and its security is threatened.

ReplyDeleteIs Singapore's DBS Being Forced by India to Inject Capital Into Troubled Indian Bank?
The Reserve Bank of India, the country’s central bank, has proposed that Lakshmi Vilas Bank, a troubled local lender, be amalgamated into DBS India.
The proposed scheme of amalgamation is wielded under the special powers of the Government of India and RBI under Section 45 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
In a statement on Nov 17, RBI notes “the rapidly deteriorating financial position” of Lakshmi Vilas Bank in terms of liquidity and capital. The bank, which has been losing money for the past three years, has been placed under a moratorium and customers are not allowed to withdraw more than INR25,000.
Given the “ absence of any credible plan for infusion of capital ”, therefore, the amalgamation with DBS Bank India is necessary in the name of “(Indian) public interest and particularly in the interest of the (Indian)depositors,” RBI notes.
According to DBS, it will inject INR 2,500 crore ($463 million) into DBS Bank India if the scheme goes through. This will be fully funded from DBS’ existing resources.
“The proposed amalgamation will provide stability and better prospects to Lakshmi Vilas Bank’s depositors, customers and employees following a time of uncertainty,” says DBS.
The Americans talked and acted as if they own the region. They just want to plonk their warships here without asking whether Asean would allow it.
ReplyDeleteNow which monkey would stand up to support the Americans to lord over Asean countries and betray Asean interests in the region? The region does not need an imperial power to be the boss and the regional gangster. Asean countries have kicked out the colonial powers and it is a joke to let the Americans be the next colonial power here.
Asean should not become another colonial playground, owned and dominated by foreign powers with their warships based here.
Effectively, the India government is getting a foreign investor to bail out a local financial institution which is in trouble - to protect Indian depositors - instead of using taxpayers' money as was done in Western countries.
ReplyDeleteLakshmi Vilas Bank shares Plunge 20% as RBI imposes a 30-day moratorium
ReplyDeleteShares of Lakshmi Vilas Bank (LVB) were locked in the 20 per cent lower circuit at Rs 12.40 a piece on the BSE a day after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a 30-day moratorium on struggling lender, superseded its board of directors and announced a draft scheme for the amalgamation of the bank with DBS Bank India, a subsidiary of DBS of Singapore, in the wake of “serious deterioration in the financial position of the bank”.
On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the stock was locked at Rs 12.45, down 19.94 per cent from its previous close.
The moratorium will be effective upto December 16, 2020, the RBI said in its statement.
The proposed amalgamation of ailing Lakshmi Vilas Bank (LVB) into DBS's wholly-owned India unit may weigh on the Singapore lender's profitability in the near to medium term.
ReplyDeleteJefferies Equity Research analyst Krishna Guha in a note on Wednesday morning (Nov 18), downgraded DBS to "hold" from "buy", and lowered the estimates for its dividends per share by about 10 per cent, cut the target price on the stock to S$22, from S$26 previously. As at 3.40 pm on Wednesday, DBS shares were trading at S$24.72.
Woman of Empress status cannot stand another woman better than her. So die die also refused to help Hyflux.
ReplyDeleteBoth parties of the USA are unwilling to accuse their election system of fraud, for to do so is like the proverbial pot calling the kettle black, since both are equally guilty of it, and will leave a sour taste in the mouth for the rest of the world to savor, if either party starts serious digging up the chain of dirt. It will not serve either party any good.
ReplyDeleteIt is right that Trump will end up like John F. Kennedy if he really starts to get serious about legal action over election fraud. How to provide proof of fraud is impossible if the system is built to contain it. So Trump has to back off, knowing what the consequences will be.
By the way, did Lee Oswald all by himself planned and assassinate Kennedy? And what is the purpose of Jack Ruby killing Lee Oswald. All these are to cover up the trail leading to the CIA and the very top of the administration. So removing any proof is the only way out, cleanly and efficiently.
Again, how many really believe that Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide in his cell? Or was he terminated to remove all links to those high up in society? It is too coincidental.
Therefore Trump knows his limits. He does not want to do what others at the receiving end of fraud did not think it wise to do.
Singaporeans have little interest in SCS spat. What is more important is avoiding and making sure the entity that is more dangerous than a snake rearing it's ugly head here.
ReplyDeleteIndia is famous for forcing foreign investors to bail out their failing entities or vary the terms of their original agreements. Bad luck for DBS! China and Japan were at one stage vying with each other to build some parts of the rail system in India. Luckily the Japanese won the project, but were forced to vary the terms of the agreement by Modi to use Indian steel, which the Japanese found to be sub standard and unsuitable. The Japs were caught in a bind. Comply or face the consequences puts the Japs between a rock and a hard place. China was lucky to escape the same fate.
Singapore discriminate against the minority Malays? Some people must be sleeping under a rock. Malays in Singapore have the best of free education up to University level, a status not given to other races. Malay is the National Language. The National Anthem is in Malay. Malays in Singapore enjoy living standards that are the envy of neighbours North and South, surpassing most Indians in India.
In India Malays will be persecuted like other Muslims and delegated below the untouchables. Yeah, we are jealous of the Indians in India under their high ranking caste system. But let us not forget that the Indians will do likewise here too if they rule over Red Dot.
Why no one wants to save Hyflux minority shareholders? The uncles and aunties that used their life savings to invest in the company. Some used their CPF money. Now all gone.

As at June 30, DBS Bank India’s total regulatory capital was INR 7,109 crore, up slightly from INR 7,023 crore as at March 31, 2020.
A Singaporean bank is being compelled to bail out a sick bank and its depositors in India - and that because the Singaporean bank has a very healthy capital structure and can well afford to merge with the sick Indian bank capital structure, according to the Reserve Bank of India. What has the Monetary Authority of Singapore gotta say? What has the CECA creators gotta say?
If Singapore host the new US military navy fleet, as Secretary of the United States Navy Kenneth Braithwaite suggests, the city state will become like grass under fighting elephants!
ReplyDeleteIs Singapore being bullied by the Americans to provide naval base for them to attack China?
ReplyDeleteThere is hope on the horizon. Pfizer and Moderna have both announced that early analyses showed that their vaccine candidates are effective. This is great news, but it doesn’t mean we can let our guard down and loosen the safety measures we have made in our daily lives. It’s crucial that we keep our infection rate low so we can distribute the vaccine as quickly as possible when it’s ready. We must remember that when the vaccine is approved, it will take time to distribute, and we need everyone to continue doing his or her part to protect one another from covid-19.
ReplyDeleteThe stupid Americans are talking now. When there was 1 case they don't care. When there were 10,100, 1,000, 1m, they don't care. Waiting for it to go away miraculously.
Now 11m, they starting to realise their stupidity. A bit too late, don't you think so?
In Ohio, Gov. Mike DeWine (R) took a hardline approach early on. Just this week, he announced a new three-week curfew. But along with lockdowns and restrictions, DeWine has chosen the language of fear, warning alternately that “the monster is still loose” and “our state’s life is now in danger” and the virus is “coming after all of us.” He has also played the guilt card, asking: “Will the family reunion be worth it if your grandmother tests positive and dies?”

ReplyDeleteAtrocities by White Men on Asians - Australian special forces executed 39 prisoners and civilians in Afghanistan, report finds (Washington Post November 19, 2020 )
ReplyDeleteAustralian special forces soldiers, mainly from the elite Special Air Service (SAS) regiment, executed 39 prisoners, farmers and other civilians during the Afghanistan war, the chief of the Australian defense forces, Gen. Angus Campbell, said Thursday.
Gen. Campbell said a culture of “toxic competitiveness” that took hold of the SAS and another unit, the Second Commando Regiment, fueled a breakdown in discipline that led to the extrajudicial killings, including a practice of “blooding” where new soldiers who had never killed anyone in combat were pressured to execute prisoners.
The abuses, between 2006 and 2013, were disclosed in a heavily redacted report by the military’s inspector general released on Thursday after a four-year investigation.
The findings implicated 25 Australian soldiers in unlawful killings of Afghans, and recommended prosecutions against 19 of them. Some of the victims were adolescents, Gen. Campbell said. None of the killings took place during the heat of battle.

ReplyDeleteIndia is the bank failure capital of the world. If this is just the beginning of the story for DBD India, it will be a long long story in time to come.
