SingHealth hacker known: Iswaran

The govt has confirmed that they knew the hacker of SingHealth confidential data of its patients. It disclosed that ‘the attacker was skilled and sophisticated, and had the characteristics typical of an advanced persistent threat group, usually state-linked’. The govt has taken appropriate action but would not identify the attacker due to security reasons. Ooooh, why so?

Iswaran was quoted in thenewpaper as saying, ‘We want to ensure that all Singaporeans understand that we’ve got nothing to hide here, we want to get to the bottom of it as much as Singaporeans do.’ But the govt would hide the identity of the attacker, at least this is what the govt has done, nothing to hide except for this.

Who is the attacker, he used this in singular form, an individual or a single country? Why is it so secretive that the attacker cannot be revealed? He is someone very important that revealing his identity would be very embarrassing? Is he someone we know, we trusted but played out Singapore? Could he be a hired foreign talent still in Singapore that would result in many red faces, or a Singaporean or a new citizen?

Or is the attacker a country, a friendly country that we trusted as our good friend but again played us out by screwing our ass? Or is the attacker country our enemy, too big to offend, we are afraid to offend other big country because we dare not punch above our weight? We are a small country and must shut up, no more loudspeaker politics? I think taking such a meek stand would only encourage the offender to continue to hack into our system knowing that we can only blow hot air but unable to fight back, we are afraid.

Would it not be better to make it public for all to see who the attacker was, friend or foe, to embarrass them so that they would not dare to create mischief against us again? Remember the time when LKY exposed the Americans for trying to bribe him just to embarrass the Americans to prevent them from thinking that it was ok to do such mischievous act?

What is so secretive or embarrassing that the culprit cannot be named? Someone’s identity needs to be protected, the attacker’s identity needs to be protected? Whose interest is being protected by this non disclosure? Is the attacker a minor so cannot be named?

Weird! BTH.

PS. I agree with many of the comments here that this is not funny but fishy. What is the govt afraid of? No more balls in between the legs?

  1. Someone has possession of my very personal data from SGH.

And Iswaran is not letting me know who has it.

  2. Remember, the main target of the attacker was Lee Hsien Loong, the Prime Minister of Singapore.

So, this attacker that Iswaran is protecting could have threaten to expose the details of the health problems of the Prime Minister of Singapore if his/its name is being exposed to the public/world.

That is the only reason, I strongly believe, that the Government of Singapore has lost its guts to punch above its weight, if it really truly honestly sincerely knows who the attacker was/is.

But (BIG BUTT) it is likely that Iswaran still does not know exactly who the attacker was/is.

I have studied the Internet GLOBAL INTERNET TRAFFIC for the period before and after the INTRUSION AND ATTACK. It seemed to me, at that time, the attacker was from USA. Because the HUGE Volume of Aggressive Traffic came into Singapore from that direction (USA) via the Middle-East (probably Israel). This has been my conclusion from the analysis of the Global Internet Traffic during the two months period (before, during and after the attack on SingHealth).

That is all I can offer. I am not going into the details.

  7. @ amateur Sherlock Holmes

One of my suspicions is that the hacker or hackers is/are local --- probably an "inside job".

The other suspects IMO are the well-organised state-sponsored (but disavowed) groups from Russia, Iran/Syria or China. It could be the NSA's "Tailored Access Operations" but I see no reason for the USA to hack into Singapore medical records....unless...the CIA has plans to fuck with our elections and ensure that their "partners" (PAP) remain in power.

One fundamental reason I really don't think it was the USA's TAO is that in this case the hackers were caught. The other hacker groups, whilst good at their craft, tend to be "untidy" and don't clean up after themselves --- leaving clues all over the place --- making their exploits discoverable. The NSA which has Israeli partners are still top-notch, neat tidy and SILENT.

  9. @ Frog Outside Glass:

Hackers will use multiple hops to make their actual location difficult to detect. They'll also use VPN to connect, SSH, Putty, KiTTY or whatever.

For all we know the hack could have been done from a kopitiam with public wifi access right here in Singapore --- multiple-hopping to the Middle East and USA to connect back to the government servers here.

For e.g. I am now using a VPN connected to Amsterdam whilst sitting with a teh-C siew tie, at this kopitiam. 😜 I often go to this kopitiam off Commonwealth which has free wifi, connect via VPN, and SSH into my desktops in either Australia or right here in Singapore. There is also The Onion Router (TOR) you can use.

BTW the kopitiam off Commonwealth Ave has wifi speeds exceeding 50Mbps --- plenty fast enough for a large data dump. Yes, I also spoof my MAC Address (using the sudo ifconfig command), but that is a redundancy since I bought my hacking laptop 2n hand using cash at Sim Lim. i.e. even with my real MACA, the name associated with this laptop will be that of the hapless original owner if the police trace the machine. 🤣

If I want to get down and dirty, I can boot Tails OS or Kali Linux from thumb drives. All from a kopitiam in the heartlands. 🤓

If a botak, innocuous mid-60's self-taught uncle can sit at a kopitiam with so much potentially destructive power, don't you think it is possible that the hack could have originated right here in Singapore?

I think it is very fucking possible.

  10. We get the information below about the hacker from the main media.
    1. The government knew the hacker
    2. The attacker was skilled and sophisticated, an advanced threat group linked to a state.
    3. The authority has taken appropriate action but would not reveal the identity of the attacker due to security reasons.
    4. "We want Singapore to know we have nothing to hide here."
    5. " We want to get to the bottom of it as much as Singaporeans do."

What type of message is the above conveying? It appears very funny and illogical that the government knew the attacker but would not reveal to Singaporeans for security reasons.Whose security is the government protecting, Singaporeans or attacker.

"We have nothing to hide", yet it appears it is hiding something.

The fact that Singapore has taken appropriate action shows that it has got to the bottom of the issue. So why don''t tell everything. The whole message appears to be vague, unsure, lack of direction and misleading.

Tell the truth straight. Don't beat around the bush for it may cause suspicion that something fishy is being hidden.

The truth will set you free

  11. Yes, very likely they did not know who is the hacker. On the other hand, Matilah, American induced mindset, the Americans are the best in hacking, everyone else are idiots, fumbling fools, would not believe the Americans would do such things even after Wikileak and Snowden's exposure.

I got this feeling that the hacker, if they really know, could be a friendly country like the USA or Israel that they dare not offend or exposure would be so embarrassing, being hacked by friends and allies.

Another strong possibility, the hacker is a foreign talent hired by a ministry or GLCs but went on to hack into SingHealth. Disclosure would be so embarrassing and also exposed the Stupidity has no Cure Syndrome for compromising our secret and confidential data to foreign talents, believing and trusting foreigners with our secrets.

This case, if it is done by a foreign talent, would lead to many silly red faces and there will be calls to expel all foreign talents in garment and garment linked companies.

    >> On the other hand, Matilah, American induced mindset, the Americans are the best in hacking, everyone else are idiots, fumbling fools, would not believe the Americans would do such things even after Wikileak and Snowden's exposure. <<

I didn't say the others were fumbling fools/ idiots --- you're the DISHONEST CUNT attributing fake words to me. 😎 Hopefully you don't reflect the mentality of other more level-headed Singaporeans. 😛 Majulah, motherfucker.

The state-sponsored hackers in every cuntry (everyone is into cyber warfare now) are excellent at their craft. All I'm saying is that the NSA are known to be STEALTHY. Why? Because the USA has to protect its "good guy" reputation. And thanks for brining up Assange (wikileaks) and Ed Snowden. Their documents prove how STEALTHY the US hackers are. No one knew what was going on until they spilled the beans. The NSA and CIA were up to all sorts of trick, all around the world, for years mostly undetected. Yes, they are ALL good hackers from every cuntry. But the NSA's "Tailored Access Operations" (TAO) are probably the best at remaining SILENT. This is my estimation of their capacity, is that ok with you? 🤪

The NSA's StuxNet hack is the classic example. The managed to INFECT super secure air-gapped (not connected to the net) Iran network with their StuxNet Worm which eventually severely damaged Iran's capacity to enrich nuclear fissile material. The NSA's hack remained UNDETECTED FOR 4 YEARS and took an enormous amount of detective work to finally find out about it.

    ReplyDelete
  14. P.S. In other words, if the TAO did indeed hack into SingHealth then:

    1. The TAO is getting careless and sloppy (possible, highly unlikely)

    2. Singapore's cybercrime/ security professionals are so fucking good they can IDENTIFY a hack by the NSA. (possible, but very fucking highly unlikely)

One of kaki's in the industry told me an well known American Israeli cybersecurity firm was called in to do the forensics. I have no knowledge to confirm this as true. I won't name the firm, but I heard that they might get the contract to defend Singapore's networks

The more they make use if "security" as a reason to protect the crooks from the innocent, the more we have rooms to speculate and suspect that some hanky-panky buddy-buddy (you rub my shoulder I rub yours) business is going on.

Remember, Keppel's big-time, high class corruption at high places have been hidden for 13 years until the US Justice Department exposed them and charged them, found them guilty and fined them heavily (all our taxpayers' money?).

If they can hide such outrageous corruption for so long, yet the AGC refused to charge Keppel (only given a warning), this shows something is not right, something is smelling fishy. Who are they trying to protect?

I think that they know who the culprit/ culprits is/ are. They are using the “national security” bullshit excuse because to reveal the identity of the hacker(s) will be a BIG EMBARRASSMENT (lose face, lau qui) to the PAP. The pain would be too much to bear, so gasak buta the “national security” reason and hope the people believe and accept is.
