Mahathir – angry old man in rage and in a hurry

The news of Mahathir banning any foreigner from buying properties in Forest City came like a thunderbolt for the owners and buyers and potential buyers of this city rising out from nowhere. This decision by Mahathir is going to shake the confidence of all foreign investors in Malaysia. Who would dare to put money in a country run by an unpredictable old man that has no respect for law and integrity? This may be the main reason why he came home empty handed from Japan. He must have told Abe of his plan to cut down on all the mega projects by China by changing the laws as he wished. The Japanese must have cold sweat when asked to pump money into Malaysia knowing what could also happen to them when this raging old man decided to turn against them.

What is pushing this old man to do what he is doing today? Is the failure of his crooked bridge got anything to do with his anger and vindictive acts today? His pet project to build an unnecessary and crazy bridge to replace a cheap and efficient causeway, wasting money for nothing and rightly stopped the moment he lost political power could be the answer to what he is doing today. He must be telling himself, these buggers brought down my favourite foolish billion dollar project, now is my turn to take revenge on them. ‘I will destroy everything they planned and built to make sure they could not outdo me. They removed my monument, I will remove theirs.’

This seems to be the key motivation driving this old man into his rage. How daring for these people to destroy my dream of a crooked bridge? Now all their dreams and pet projects must also go the way of my crooked bridge.

In his rage he does not care how the world looks at him and his Malaysia, a whimsical untrustworthy country with unreliable and unpredictable leaders and changing policies. Who would dare to invest in Malaysia anymore? And he thinks he could get away with it, tearing down all the multi billion dollar mega projects without having to pay compensation. The developers are likely to sue him and make him, not him, Malaysia, to pay compensation for his reckless decisions. They are not going to walk away without claiming back what they have put into Malaysia.

The next big project to go or close down would be the massive train factory in KL. With all the train projects gone, there would be no need to build trains and other parts in Malaysia anymore. The massive Port Klang project to replace Singapore would end up like his crooked bridge, hanging half way in mid air, half complete structures left to rot. Forest City would answer to his wishes, becomes a jungle, overgrown with forestation, with no resident.

Is this man doing good for Malaysia or is he out to destroy Malaysia, destroying everything his predecessors built out of spite? Without foreign investments, Malaysia is likely to hit negative growth or the lowest growth among Asean countries. Mahathir the savior of a corrupt Malaysia would instead become Mahathir the destroyer of Malaysia, destroying all the reputation, trust and confidence in the Malaysian govt. Malaysia is going to look like a dictatorship run by a tinpot unpredictable old man. Is this what he is doing to Malaysia?
Would Mahathir be chasing out all the foreigners that have bought properties in Johore, in Iskandar and other parts of Malaysia and staying there recently? How far would Mahathir go to rid Malaysia of foreigners who have bought properties and staying in Malaysia?

For the moment the Malaysian narrative is that Mahathir can do whatever he likes, even tearing up commercial contracts and causing parties to lose hundreds of billions without recourse. The Malay Mail even wrote a condescending article that Mahathir’s dilly dallying was his way of trying to save the Chinese face from the cancelled projects.

The Chinese leaders might have agreed to Mahathir’s request and on political ground accepted the cancellation of the mega projects. But commercial considerations and contractual obligations would not be swept under the carpet. The compensation clauses would be taken up by the Chinese companies. Even the Forest City developers could take the Malaysian govt to court, I mean ICJ if necessary, to claim compensation for the change of govt policies.

Mahathir may blame Najib for stupidity. The Chinese developers are not so stupid to plough in hundreds of billions of dollars into Malaysia without protecting themselves from controversial political decisions. Mahathir would be served with claims for hundreds of billions as compensation for these projects if they are aborted. If Singapore is firm enough to demand compensation, why would China threw away hundreds of billions and gets insulted by a vindictive old man? Mahathir has all the cards to play and China has no cards to play and has to walk away losing their pants? A political decision would not take away the contractual and monetary obligations in such cases.

My bet, all the projects would be reinstated when Mahathir found out that he has no money to pay for the compensation.

  4. Actually, the Sultan of Johor all the time dislikes that Old Man.

The New Educated Sultan no longer gave Face to Mahathir knowing that he outwitted all the Old Sultans in losing all the Powers.

During the last GE, the Sultan encouraged all Johreans to support Najib.

Now Mahathir wants to spite him as the Forest City Projects is a joint venture by the Sultan and the Chinese Developer.

So, the Developer are been thrown in as Innocent Party in their Fight.

Najib had as before not bring his Son to be in more power. So now he is seeking Revenue to spite everything that Najib does.

Franky, if I were to purchase a property there, i would still prefer Melaka or on Genting Highlands Abundance Condos near the Resort.

Not in JB or KL. The Non bumis in these two plates as just as bad as Sinkies. Can slaughter you, slaughter as learn from the PAP.

Other Malaysian Northern States are still like the 60s where the Beans are more genial and still have Human feelings.

Imagine living together with nearly 700,000 PRCs in your midst.
My God, just a dozen of them can alreday made you deaf. 700,000 thosands of them.???

They are hell of a cooperative people. You antagonise you, you antagonise all. Unlike Sinkies.Every man for themselves.

If you happen to have just a small problem with your neighnour, you be living in HELL with all of them around you.

In Melaka, we have friendly Malaysian next door and upstairs friends who are mostly of lower Incomes and are not SNOBs.

You stay with those So called SNOBs who scorned you who is more Wealthy. Very tiring Indeed.

The Real Reason is that the Bumis are scared of been outnumbered by the Chinese.

Unlike Sinkies Chinese who do not give a damn to being a miniorty as long as I can capitalise and made monies out of them.

They do not realise that they be losing their Country and their next generation will be slaves to the Farangs.

I think this is a "nothing burger". Dr M has to look like he's on the side of Malaysians by making sure they can afford properties, instead of being sidelined due to the bidding up of real estate by foreigners "parking their cash".

As intended, that will shake the coconut tree a bit, and some foreigners will fall out like ripe coconuts and exit the space. Others will stay, maybe even come in. You never know. People evaluate "reality" differently.

Malaysia is still a net exporter of capital so they can afford to dictate a few terms. Dr M can play it close to the chest if required---we know his capacity for "crisis management". In fact, Dr M shines bright during crises.

Like all politicians, Dr M has placed A BET. He will gauge the response. He has an "end game", even though it may not be clear to most of us what that end game is.

Dr M's latest action to ban foreigners buying property in Forest City is bound to frighten away investors especially from Singapore. Just like his intention to delay or cancel deals made during Najib's time. It is likely that Dr M knew something which the public is unaware of. This wily old fox cannot be creating wave for no rhyme or reason. The only possible reason could be corruption or an irrational fear of Chinese investment motives.

No, I do not prefer the Black Ants. They are worse than the Yellow Peril.

But, the daft 70% dafts unwittingly too daft to think allowed the Black Ants to dominate them.

Where were you and they when we were soaked WET in Hong Lim Park first protest of the White Paper six years back??

Now the Black Ants are in their final strangle of you and come to the worst, I be at Melaka with the Mats and the more genial Malaccans rather than with the Black Ants, the Vietcongs, the Burmese, and all the Chap Cheng.

  10. I have a nagging feeling that this old dog is having a last hurrah before he kicks the bucket and meet his maker. He wants to have the last laugh, sort of.

All the big law firms in KL are fighting to get a slice of the litigation pie by Singapore, China and others who have dumped money into that cess hole and got scalded.

The Malaysian economy will be going into a tailspin and ultimately, it's good for us because those cocky malaysian workers will now sisi come back here to work in a more humbling mood.

With all the grandiose projects on stream during his predecessor's time, now comes this trouble maker to upset the whole apple cart.

But it's good for us. In the end, they are where it was decades ago looking up to us for clean government, good civil service and incorruptibility.

America has got Trumpy moron. Malaysia has got Mathatter.

    Cheers!

  11. Haha. They abolished the goods and services tax and in its place, there is now a sales and services tax.

How brilliant! Just when malaysians are celbrating their joy over having to pay less, now it's pay more or continue paying under a different name.

In the end, they would have been better with Najib.

    What a mess!

  13. Hi JoeJohn.

Do not mistaken GST with now Services and Goods Tax.

The second Services and Goods Tax are somewhats simiar to their VAT tax long ago.

The VAT is value Added Tax which mainly taxed on those Tourists and those so called Wealthy who patronized high class restaurants and shop premiun stuffs.

So, it is more fair the poor do not pay for their basic necessities on GST which covers all commodities and services.

The new tax will hits more on the Tourists and the Wealthy.

Like Hotel cess, entertainment duties which the poor will seldom patronise.

Thus more equitable for those how lian who thinks they can afford to pay and be the New Papuers of the Future.

  14. For Singapore investors (money-minded) what Dr Mahathir is doing can be seen as detrimental to their plans. But for the masses in Malaysia, irrespective of race, what Dr Mahathir is doing is good for the.

As the PM of Malaysia, his priority must be for Malaysia and Malaysians. Foreign investors and foreign investments must benefit Malaysia and Malaysians.

The Sultan of Johore is against Dr Mahathir because of the Sultan's own selfish interests. He has a stake in those projects in Johore, in collaboration with Najib.

Remember, in politics, it is all about two things:,power and money.

So, go figure out all the actions the various politicians are doing, based on power and monetary objectives. Then you will understand clearly.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Mahathir already destroyed Malaysia during his first term as PM. Under his new economic policy, the Malays are rendered impotent in competing with other races and are needing crutches for generations to come. Only the UMNO puteras benefit from his policy of enriching themselves at the expense of the ordinary people. They do not have to compete against the other races.

Now another can of worms has been opened with news that another former UMNO politician/ minister during Mahathir's former 22 year term as PM, and who died recently, had reportedly amassed RM2.1 billion in assets and Malaysians are angry. If they investigate his case, it is bound to go all the way to include Daim and even the old man himself. The talk is that the investigation may be pre-empted before it could start, if it involves the kingmaker himself. It is reported, unofficially that Malaysia has more than 200 such billionaires and only the US and China have more. Putting a brake on the investigation will put him in a tangled web if that should happen. He promised before the election to go after the corrupt UMNO politicians and Government leaders, of which he himself was one.

Mahathir is in the hot seat now, with all this happening, and the Forest City fiasco that has unhinged investors of the project and is sending a message to potential investors like Japan, that the law and agreements with Malaysia hold no water under Mahathir. No wonder he failed to secure loans from Japan, knowing the Japanese are meticulous in doing their sums. And stepping on the Chinese toes will also do no good to his plans to invite investors.

Further, Anwar is going after those who supposedly accused him of the sodomy charges and landed him to lose years of his political career in jail. Indirectly this is telling Mahathir something. Did Anwar really forgive Hahathir, or will he be, like Mahathir tell everyone he is not seeking revenge, but doing exactly that by focusing on Najib and company? He knows how to play the game and stoke the flames of public sentiment against whoever stands in his way, and Anwar better be careful or be sodomised once again and be removed for good.

Finally, after promising the removal of GST, he introduced SST which is even of higher quantum that the GST of 6%. Malaysians have been sodomised by Mahathir without realising it.

More to come of the 'wayang kulit' that happens behind the scene.

  17. For Mahathir's son to rise, I think he still needs to go back to UMNO, like it or not.

The fact is the current coalition is on shaky ground if one party decides to quit. What then?

For Mahathir's son to rise in UMNO, he has to remove all this opponents. Najib and his cronies have to be removed. It will be very difficult. People like Hishamuddin, Hamidi and Khairy etc are contenders for the pinnacle of power. His son has no chance to move up with these people in control.

  18. It wont be long before someone ask how did Mahathir's sons became billionaires.

    They made the billionaires?

  19. Anwar's hope to be the next PM is still just a hope.

History may repeat itself and Anwar be thrown into jail one more time.50 years

Mahathir brought Malaysia 50 years back in time. Now most of the younger Malays, including the non Malays, cannot speak proper English.

He is the hope of Malaysia against corruption? If only he had a stake in the mega projects, all the green lights would be lighted.

"Singapore’s capital markets may never lead the region in scale or depth. But they could lead in quality of corporate governance and disclosure. Clearly, letters to officials and stories leaking in from the outside world are not going to do the trick. Temasek, the cabinet, and the ruling People's Action party have to take the lead in cleaning up Singapore’s capital markets. And a free-er press could help."

Today, the golden-spoon-fed Singapore leaders are arrogant, think highly of themselves (that's why pay themselves the world's highest salary) and unwilling to learn. They think they have arrived (because they are now multi-millionaires), so they don't need to learn from others.

Glorifying and praising themselves have become a norm in their behavior for all to see. Self-conceit and over-confidence are displayed on a regular basis. Talking down and belittling those lesser souls are part and parcel of their oratorical skills....

You have disagreements with others and we have also to have the same with them which we are not.

The Sultan of Johor wants to build his State with economic activities so that his People will be economically employed.

No need to be just hawkers and petty shop owners. Also have his People crossing the Tuas chokehole everymorning at the mercy of the incompetence Sinkies.
