Singapore: China fabricate lies and fake news

After wrecking bilateral relationship with Malaysia, Singapore’s diplomat Bilahari Kausikan now hit at China and accused the Chinese of fabricating lies and fake news to establish diplomacy:

“Beijing uses a mix of persuasion, inducement and coercion techniques to create a psychological environment which poses false choices for other countries. This technique of forcing false choices on you and making you choose between false choices is deployed within a framework of either overarching narratives or specific narratives… The purpose is to narrow the scope of choices and they are usually presented in binary terms. The intention is to stampede your thinking so that the critical faculty is not fully engaged and to instill a sense of fatalistic inevitability of the choices forced upon you.”

The PAP elite who was the former permanent secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said China keep issuing “falsehoods” like having a better relationship during Lee Kuan Yew’s times:

“Several examples of falsehoods that have been put forth by Beijing when dealing with Singapore, include how relations under founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew were much better as compared to now because the current Government does not understand China. These discourses are powerful because they are not entirely fabricated. They do contain a kernel of truth. But they are either extremely simplistic… or leave out vital facts. Mr Lee went against the Chinese-supported Communist united front in the 1950s-60s and prevailed. Other examples of untruths, include how Washington represents the past while Beijing stands for the future, as well as suggestions that those who are close to the United States will find it hard to have close economic ties with China.”

Bilahari Kausikan continued his anti-China speech calling it “self-deceptive” and manipulative:
“Other vulnerabilities in the Chinese approach, include cultural altruism as well as a tendency towards self-deception… and rigidity. Even when China’s intentions are exposed, the other parties may opt to play along due to genuine sympathy towards the Chinese position, cultural affinity or to ensure that bilateral relations can be kept on an even keel. This may also be due to transactional reasons – for hope of reward or fear of sanctions.”

The above post is from thestatestimesreview. Bilahari’s anti China speech was prominently published in the main media. What was the intent to give this hate speech so much publicity when it could only create more animosity between China and Singapore? Is this diplomacy or a declaration of hostility with China? Is Bilahari going to say that this is his personal view and he is no longer a govt official, so what he said has no bearing on Singapore’s official position. Likewise, what the official media printed is not the official voice of the govt. This is freedom of speech.

If that is the case, more anti China and hate speeches against China is fair game in Singapore’s main media and not done with ill intent to provoke or attack China. They would not affect Singapore’s good relations with China. China would be wise to see that there is no linkage in such hostile media reports against China with Singapore’s intent to have good relations with China.

What do you think?

PS. Some may be wondering if Bilahari was given a licence to attack China. Can Singapore hope to improve its relations with China with this kind of comments coming from its ex top officials that were involved in making govt decisions and repeatedly published in the main media?

Ex-civil servant BK's sobriquet is Bee Kim Hee. This fake Chinese is a loose cannon trying to drive a wedge between China and Singapore. Wise leaders in China will ignore his latest outbursts as hogwash. Lately, he is doing a lot of sucking up to his former bosses and getting praises from a fellow cobra, Shanmugam. Singapore's foreign policy is now completely in the hands of Indians and they are notorious Chinese-haters.

  8. "Singaporeans should be aware of China's 'influence operations' to manipulate them", says ex-diplomat Bilahari Kausikan.

But what Sinkies are seeing is the influx of hordes of India nationals PMETs into Singapore, bringing the total residential population to nearly 6 million from 3.9 million before 2004 - the year of Loong's ancension to PMship. India is doing more real harm to Sinkies' interests in Singapore than China!

  9. Bilahari Kausikan has malicious intent. It is clear.

What his agenda is is also clear.

The only thing still unknown, but not difficult to analyze, is who is he working for.

He was the ambassador at large but he has resigned.

I strongly believe that he must now be on the payroll of CIA!

The Law Ministry is also largely staffed by Black Cobras.

The Home Affairs Ministry is also largely staffed by Black Ants.

The Judiciary also mainly staffed by Black Panters.

The Presidency is held by a Bah Bah Black Sheep, shepard by a Presidential Advisory Council led by a Black Wolf.

So, effectively Sinkieland is almost totally controlled by the Forces of the Black Vampires.

Yesterday Southernglory1 tells us of White men's Pathological psyche of hatred against non-white people but he did not realise that there is in Singapore an Indian who has a pathological psyche of hatred against China and the Chinese people. This man is a danger to Singapore. The security of Singapore is at stake. The government must stop this Indian from creating problems for Singapore.

  17. He was once an ambassador of Singapore and a permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On hindsight he must have for many years posted great insidious influence on Singapore's negative attitude towards China.

  18. As an ex-ambassador and ex-permanent secretary of Foreign Affairs does not give him the right to disseminate falsehoods and fake accusations against China. Is he in cahoot with CIA in fabricating lies and hatred against China? It is no surprise that in the past few years wherever he gave talks, speeches or lectures in Tokyo, New York or Singapore Institutes of Higher and International studies he always took the opportunity to cast aspersions, disparaging and vitriol remarks against China to smear China and the Chinese people and to put China in a bad image. Kausikan should not try to push his ego too far. He is petty and is nothing compare with the respectable renowned international Singaporean professor Kishore Mahubani. If Kausikan does not stop paddling falsehoods and fake accusations against China he is going to bring Singapore a lot of unnecessary trouble.

  20. China is well aware of this Indian's tirade of hatred against China. No wonder Singapore is losing a lot of good business opportunities from China. It seems all China's blue chip companies like Ali BaBA, Huawei, Ten Cent and many more others could have been listed with Singapore's SGX. But because of an anti-China senior officer like Kausikan, Chinese companies have chosen their listings in Hong Kong and New York. How long is Kausikan going to damage Singapore before he shuts his dirty mouth.

  23. Kausikan is most likely a double agent, working for CIA or MI5.

ISD or SID must stop him from causing further damages to Singapore's economic, diplomatic, political, cultural and security interests.

This man should be arrested under the Internal Security Act or charged with Sedition without delay.

Answer to your question is very simple:

Since the publication of such hate speeches / writings against China in the national, state-sponsored newspapers, has there been any immediate response from the Foreign Ministry (or Mystery) of Singapore, or from the Prime Minister's Office. If there is none, China and all those reading such hate speeches / writings can assume that they have been sanctioned by the Foreign Ministry (or Mystery) as well as the Prime Minister's Office. Period.

    Ceteris paribus, SILENCE MEANS CONSENT!

    QED.

  27. Irrespective of whether this guy, whose parents called him Bilahari Kausikan, but preferred to call himself Bee Kim Hee (while secretly posted articles to the Straits Times when he was doing is PHD at the University of Columbia), is still working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Ambassador with a Large Head or not, his words carry weight around the world. He is not a small fly to be ignored, as someone here has suggested.

Therefore, whether China wants it or not, Chinese Foreign Minister has to take serious consideration into his words, as if spoken on behalf of the Singapore Government. Unless otherwise refuted or dissociated officially by the Singapore Foreign Ministry, nobody should treat lightly what this retired Ambassador with a Large Head has said or will be saying.

Singapore cannot afford to give the wrong signals in terms of diplomacy, economic, cultural, military or security matters to foreign powers, be they big or small, near or far. There cannot be a double-talk - on official level very nice but in private capacity very rude and crude. That is the behaviour of a hypocrite. Even a secondary school student knows this.

Whoever trusts a hypocrite must be an idiot!

SAF to deploy more forces to Iraq later this year: Ng Eng Hen

Singapore will deploy more forces to Iraq later this year to aid coalition forces in their fight against Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), said Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen in Parliament on Friday (2 March).

Ng told the House that US Defence Secretary James Mattis had written to ask the Republic to commit more resources for the next phase of consolidation after recent “hard-won victories”. “We will send SAF troops to help train Iraqi security personnel to counter IEDs (improvised explosive devices), as well as in tactical weapons and combat tactics,” said Ng, who was speaking during a debate on his ministry’s planned spending.

  29. Sending SAF personnel and resources to fight in the continuous unending war started by the US is akin to fighting in the Vietnam War started by the French and US in the 1950s through the 1970s.

Singapore taxpayers' money are being used by the US through the Defence Minister without seeking Parliamentary Approval, without the citizens' consensus.

I have to say, I do agree with him. China does resort to all sorts of "unconventional" methods...but as I've said before:

    I DON'T CARE. I EXPECT THEM TO.

If China plays "by the rules"---rules set up by people who do not have China's interests at heart, then China will be CONSTRAINED in its growth.

So fuck everyone. We will do it our way. If americans can have why can't other cuntries do the same?

What I disagree with Bilhari on is Singapore's response:

Just leave it alone lah bro' Nothing you say is going to change the situation. Do you think the whole Chinese mainland is going to change just because you gave a "harsh speech"?

For fuck's sake. Noone plays geo-politics "clean" lah. You have to WIN, China has too WIN. China's CCP has to deliver GROWTH or they will face the ire of 1.4 billion people.
