The people's President

Several presidents have been touted as the people's president with names
like Ong Teng Cheong, Wee Kim Wee, Nathan etc etc often quoted in the main
media. Oops, my apologies, I think Ong Teng Cheong was only quoted as the
people's president in the social media if I am not wrong. The title of the
people's president seems to endear many people and it is something of a
great honour to be known as one. Depending who you are, everyone would have
his own people's president in his heart and not every president is their
people’s president.

Tan Cheng Bock came close to be another people's president when he lost to
Tony Tan by a hair's breath and then disqualified from standing for the
next election when the Constitution was changed and he was out from the
running. The popularity of Cheng Bock has increased despite his being a non
candidate in the latest EP election that turned out to be a walkover with
only one candidate qualifying though Cheng Bock was the first to express
his intent to contest.

In the public's mind, many thought Cheng Bock was likely to win should he
be given a chance to contest. This could be one of the main reasons why the
rules were changed to disqualify him. Everything is now history and Cheng
Bock unfortunately becomes a ‘has been’. It is difficult to see him
contesting in the next EP as age is catching up on him.

Below is a pic on his popularity when the turned up at the silent sit in at
Hong Lim on 16 Sep. The crowd was with him. The crowd was there on their
own, with no temptation of free chicken rice or free transport. A people’s
president does not need that. These people paid their transport fare to be
with him. These were genuine signs of what a people's president is like,
like by the people from their heart, spontaneous and with no coercion or
any farcical set up to make him look good.

Maybe to some people Cheng Bock is still their people's president in some
way. And in some way Cheng Bock has been robbed of his rightful place in
the Istana.

  1. The prata man & present Harimau r not considered the people president caused they r walkover kelong president. KFC is a 1/3 people president. The then President Wee got to salute him as he was the one to open up the Istana & gave up his seat to run a contest in a first president elect. The then Mr Ong Teng Cheong is definitely the people president, he dared to question the PAPies on the reserves & one tat shows compassion & empathy towards the people. Sadly the Prata Man & Harimau r PAPies Press-Si-Dan or fake people president that NoBoLee wants.

  2. It is sad that for a country that keep championing meritocracy regardless of race and religion, we have a President that goes against all these values. Instead of uniting the people, she is more of a divide.

  3. Obama was elected US president as per normal not once but twice without US changing its constitution or putting aside especially for minority race in which Obama happened to be of African stock. The Pappies do not know what is shame and changing rules all the time to entrench itself in power. Now the whole world holds Singapore in great disrespect and contempt.

  4. "It is not the so-called risk of losing some votes or popularity that the government is worried about. It is the possibility of having a non-team-playing head of state who, at best (from the current government’s point of view), asks too many inconvenient questions or, at worst, is simply too disruptive in his articulation or posture for the PAP’s liking.

Such a risk would be considered much too big to take. A mechanism to check a rogue regime inadvertently becomes a completely different animal and would upset the original idea of having a wise in-sync custodian holding a second key to the reserves and keeping watch over key public appointments. This was what Dr Tan Cheng Bock was more or less prepared to do – to question and speak up. He or someone else outside the trusted establishment would be considered disastrous for the government’s game plan." -- Tan Bah Bah (former senior leader writer with The Straits Times)

  6. Can it be said that the Late Ong Teng Cheong was part of the Then PAP Regime up to the Post of Deputy Prime Minister, that was almost holding total control of Sin, before he was made a president.
As he was long a long time as a PAP Cohort holding one of the Highest Position in the Regime, he MIGHT HAVE some reservations about the Integrity of the System which he was working with.

For one who was part and parcel of the establishment which he, Ong Teng Cheong had been an important figure in it, WHY DID HE CHOOSES TO LOOK INTO POSSIBLE ABBERATION(S) IN THE RUNNING OF SIN?

I surmise there were Two Possible Reasons.
One was that he could have came across irregularity or realized something not right.
Or, was suspicious of something amissed.

Two, which was more probable to me; was that he was diagnosed to suffer from Cancer, very much a terminal disease, which made him wanted to do good before he went to the Next Realm.
    人之将死,
其言也善。Meaning whence one knows the End is near, he/she becomes benevolent.
ln my personal interpretion; it shall NOT be just benevolent, it shall be more so REPENTANCE,hoping not to be punished in the Afterlife.
Or be granted blissland after death.
It must be said that the FEAR of punishment after death is overwhelming for most.
    将死的人不只其言也善,他/她也将也将尽量赎罪,以求原谅和善终。
Of course, many evil folks and nimcompoops care not about propriety when alive and healthy.

Whatever the Reasons Late Ong Teng Cheong had for been part of the Establishment that at about the End of his tenure he wanted to probe, had and has turned him into a hero of sort, ended and ends him well.
    Personally,
l would and will not accord Ong Teng Cheong much.
    However,
l am glad that he recovered his conscience and concluded his end positively.
Just that Sinkies like Ong Teng Cheong, could be too late to make amend before things go beyond repair.

And the Fear for suffering punishment in afterlife to correct mistakes and make amends and repentance is to me, NOT a valid or GOOD reason for excuse and pardon.

  12. People s president or reserved walked over president only or both is future question. Many expect TCB to lose to the walked over if there was contest based on old rules. The same results are expected when new rules applied. The election board has the discretion to lower the "equity" governing figure to allow the 2 to join the contest. The result will still be the biggest shares win the poll. Most likely should be the pap appointed one. Yet after having the courage to change the rules to base on a race to pick candidates, the election was meant to be a walk-over. This point to something uncommon. The general public should feel that uncommon signal: the pap candidate "must win".

By nature of the appointment, the president is a non pap team to check on the pap s decision and to save the reserves from misappropriation. By action, the pap was quick to push for the appointed candidate through the process. No firework on the appointment. She was quick to take the seat. Much to the displeasure of her neighbors, who were reported to be checked by police when entering her near her hdb block. To let everyone know there is a president hdb block, 2 police cars have reserved lots. This kind of people s president is real people s president, but irritating to the neighbors who need privacy and parking lots.

Taking out the sincere motive to stay with the people by staying in hdb, what this new president will do is a watch point. If she cares about the neglected by staying and walking around in neighborhood blocks throughout the island, she is better people s president than anyone in the past who only show up at istana during public open house days.

This president has a different made: she is a lady. May display the mercy the poor folks long to receive. Has to be in action, not talk only, madam president.

The greater problem facing ah long s next govt is future old folks.

These old folks have far less cpf than their parents. Their parents are either having little cash and not involved in betting on properties or are committed to loans to properties which prices are going downward.

Old folks in coming decades are living with little cash savings and cpf. This president may be able to come up with some kind of schemes to encourage the industries to hire the old ones as part of the labor force. She has long years in ntuc and legally trained. There is something she can do better than the young army general holding social affair minister posts.

There was stories that she tried to help some landed property owner to get welfare but had to wait till the owners sold the property. This kind of selling assets to get a few dollar funding is not right. The old folks have contributed much to the society. They cannot live till death for their familiar home?
Ah long s policy to bet and lose 1 "taw" USD$4 billions on UBS is ok to voters, but real voters who need cash because they cannot move, have to be bargained for $350pm for "restaurant foods".
Her case was so funny when she was a pap. Now is no longer a pap, will she find the case funny in this society who claimed to have lots of "reserves". Kim sua goon sua, gold mountain silver mountain, sinkieland. Not real lah. Boh liu is real. Like gambling on shares and branded themselves to be financial experts. Heard any more gambling now aday on news? Boh liu liao.

  24. Patriot, you are much prejudiced of those who are ex-supporters and even ex Minister and MP like OTC and TCB from the PAP.

You are just one track with prejudiced mind that just because you supported the other party those who supported the past PAP are wrong and evil.

So called regrets are of no use and are condemned. So those voters who voted the Republicans and the Democrats and likewise like in Taiwan those voters who supported the KMT and switch to the other party in the next elections are also condemned like sinners.

Voters can vote one party and switch to the other of their own free will. If all are dead set in just voting for same party every elections then why waste time in elections campaigns???

They are fighting for popular support and their votes.

Some human beans like 0TC been an Oriental Gentleman took their duties with honour as True OG.

He may be ex-PAP and work tirelessly for the PAP when he is with the Party. This is the True principles and honour as a Gentleman.

But when he is entrusted with the Role of the President, he has to act as a True Gentleman to fulfill his Role and duties as a President.

He undertook his duties faithfully andseriously even he has to antagonise his old party and Colleagues. This is the Role of a True unbiased President. Unlike those who are just puppets.

So, do not just simply with a sweep of a bamboo pole knock everyone into the waters out of the sampan. Blaming one and sundry of being sinners and traitors just because they are pap or ex PAP supporters or members. Likewise TCB and maybe a few others ex PAP ministers or MPs.

Do not harshly think that oldies going to meet their makers soon try to do good to atone their sins.

Nowadays, most oldies no need to atone for their sins as most are already save by their Almighty Only One and also by their children to be saved by the Only One.

  41. I have spent 58 years of my life, since the age of 15, sincerely and conscientiously working for the good of Singaporeans (first), then Singapore!

I don't work to please LKY or carry the balls of the PAP. I spent my time, efforts and money for those who were the down-and-out, the deprived and the vulnerables.

RB and I formed the first RC for the sake of the residents staying in our block of flat, because there were too frequent robberies in the lift at night, especially to old ladies. Those days, the RCs were not like today - miles apart. They were not funded by the PA. We came out our own money. We were not controlled by the PA nor anybody. In fact, we were like nobody's children. In fact, we were under surveillance. We served from 1976 to 1978. That was it. Few years later, the PAP infiltrated into the RCs and slowly took over control one by one.

If you think because of that, RB and myself were supporting evils, you are gravely mistaken. I don't need to apologise for that because we were not working for the PAP at that time. We worked for the sake of the old folks, women and children in our block of flat.

As I have said before, I have done my part and I am also getting old. From now on, I will go and enjoy myself and fuck off from here. There is no point to continue to serve a bunch of daft Sinkies in any way. Enough is ENOUGH!

Who deserve to be F ?
The one who claim those paying income tax n.cpf to the garmen is a accomplice ,telling sinkies to F from here n migrate elsewhere
Or the one who only mentioned PG (not all PG )which is a fact?

Why do you want to live in such an unhappy environment? Aren't you a hypocrite?

  46. Typical security guard mentality. Most taxi drivers hate these low life security guards, who look down on taxi drivers. Worst of all guard dogs are those that bite the hands that feed them.

    I am fine.

Me had been here for a decade or more, long enough for most to read and know me.

    There is CAUSE to everything.
Other than natural disasters, most event and consequence are invariably MAN-MADE. Those who caused any consequences should be duly rewarded or be held
    accountable for credit or responsibiility.
IT IS NEVER A CASE OF MAKING AMEND, REPENT AND REMORSE BE A CASE FOR EXCUSE OF CULPABILITY.
Yes, it is great consolation whenever someone recovers his and her conscience and I greatly appreciate it.
    However,
to whitewash and give total pardon is not the Way. Those making amends do deserve support and encouragement.

I quite appreciate the Candid and Straightforward comments
on me, which l said l welcome though they are unfavourable to me.
Me am not here to please or worse, fawn on or at others.
Just hope that others could and will accept unfavourable opinions too.

I shall be here for as long as I am a Sinkie and will be glad to have further interactions.

Those who thought that the Pioneer Generation of Leaders and those Pioneer Citizens should not built Singapore of Today should see the Current Netflix True life movie of "They killed my Father"

They liked to toy with the idea if what will really happen if the Party as ferociously Supported by our Patriorts were to rule Singapore instead of the PAP.

Will we be like Cambodia under the Khmer Rogue who promised them all been equal and claims of brotherhood.

What is the cause and what is the effect when a security guard use office time for personal entertainment in the Internet?

What is the cause and effect for cursing LKy? Ask Amos Yee.

What is the cause and effect for condemning all those who supported the PAP in the early years of Singapore's independence, when we were struggling to survive as a nation?

What's the cause and effect when a security guard thinks and act like he is the Righteous Judge of Humanity to find the Pioneers guilty and sentenced them to Hell?

  61. I have been a taxi driver since 1996, and I am a member of the Singapore Taxi Drivers' Association. From our countless contacts with security guards, 8 out of 10 times, they will give us a dirty look or shout at us or boss us around. The way they treat us is like we are their subordinates to be ordered around to do whatever they command.

When I get a call from someone at a condo or apartment, and when I reached there and found the security guard sleeping on the job, I had no choice but to horn at him to wake up to open the gate, instead of apologising, he would blare at me "Why you horn?"
This is not an isolated incident. This is a very common incident especially after midnight. Of course, there are good security guards, but they are few in between.

If you found gate lock, use your phone to call the caller and let him come out of the lobby .Stop spoiling these lazy riders.

    2. People asked questions twisted to "They accused"-

    3. Jumped to conclusion, people enlists just because he can afford smartphone. Does not mean can afford smart phone can prevent someone using office computer especially when no other people are allowed in the security office.

Some screw-u-ty guards hide in toilet to smoke, play games on headphone, chat with girlfriends, etc. This people call Eat Snake. Some security guards hide in store room to sleep while on duty. How I know? My friend has security company, big security company. Some of his security supervisors told me.

comply with many requirements of their employers and the Regulator onto others.
That makes many feel irritated at times.
Here, they are condescended by blogger and many others which was absolutely uncalled for.

The idiot wants the taxi driver to call the caller so that the caller comes out of the lobby to witness that the security guard is sleeping?

Running out of reason to tekan the taxi driver. Simply talked through his asshole without thinking of the consequences to the security guard who is sleeping?

If I am a taxi driver and I see security guard sleeping, I would quietly come down from my taxi. Instead of using my mobile to call the caller, I would take a photo of the sleeping security guard sleeping on his job and then think of what to do next?

Actually this asshole agongkia wants the security guard to get sacked!

Stop the allegation that guard are sleeping just becos you ugly sinkies see them no up.
If I have a say in an organisation, when talk about security, all taxi uncles or PH should not be allowed to enter premises to pick passengers.
Any handicap that need taxi into premises should notify the security in advance. How many did so .
Security uncles are being kind to allow access and not having the I'D of drivers recorded and dun take their kindness as their weakness .
You want enter one's premises you follow rules.
Call the rider and it's up to the rider to complain.Taxi driver must know some courtesy n not horn as it's causing annoyance to residents.
What these taxi uncles know about security.
