NUS – Singaporeans growing confidence in Singaporeans

The latest appointment of another Singaporean to be the dean of NUS School of Public Health is a sign that Singaporeans have started to rediscover themselves and growing more confident in their own abilities after a couple of decades of worshipping fake and dubious foreign talents. For two or three decades there was this sinking feeling that Singaporeans are really daft and useless people despite their claims of aceing their academic tests from the best universities in the world. As a result of this self doubt, not sure which donkey started this myth and trend, many foreigners were brought in as foreign talents to replace Singaporeans in many top appointments, including the academia. Today, NTU and to a lesser extent NUS has a predominant foreign presence that did not augur well for the future of Singaporean talents. If the trend continues, one day a minister would say they have started a programme to train Singaporean academics and it would take another 50 years for them to be ready.

Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, NUS President, has been reported to say that NUS went on a world tour of sort, to look for the best in the world to fill the position of the dean of Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health only to find that the incumbent vice dean Professor Teo Yik Ying is still the best man in the world, to be the dean of the School. Should there be a sigh of relief that Singaporeans are now confident enough to look at themselves and confidently tell themselves that we are really the best in the world and not second liners to foreigners?

Would this appoint of Professor Teo be a revival of faith and trust in Singaporean talents and their ability as among the best in the world and the stupidity of thinking that any foreigner, with dubious backgrounds and qualifications that could not be verified or unknown to us, is the best man to helm our institutions? Would there be a soul searching in the top circle of Singapore elite to reflect on this silliness over the last two decades to adore everything foreign and start to have faith in Singaporeans?

We built many great organizations and institutions only to import foreigners to take them over and to replace more Singaporeans with their respective foreigners, leaving Singaporeans in the lurch, destroying their faith and confidence in the process and resign to the fate of being security guards and taxi drivers or temp workers.

If Singaporeans have no faith in Singaporeans and their abilities, Singaporeans will be the ones that will destroy Singapore by importing dubious foreigners that could not build their own countries, failures in their own countries, to take over this island, the island built by Singaporeans.

  1. When you build a company from scratch and after it began humming, the next one who took over simply have an easier job as all the basics are in place.

Just just tune to make it better.
What's non sense they are have to be better than their predecessors.

So, what's the first generation of Leaderships and their fellow citizens achieved count to nought? ?

Stupidity just to have people you considered better than your own to run the show.

If there are good, they be staying in their own countries.

  2. Angkol, maybe u r still living in Dreamland of Sinkieland. This little red dot will 4ever treasure the Foreigners Talent than the Locals Sillyporeans. The evidence is already on the wall, look at one RC who gave $1 entre fee to the New Comers than the Sillyporeans who need to pay $3 until someone spotted it & taken down. In jobs, FTs openings & opportunity r abound compared to the Locals. As the Minions ter go all out to pursue & welcome new citizens, this is wat Hang kar Chan said :" ...being Sporeans is not a matter of ancestry anymore, being Sporeans is a matter of Choice.."..So for any FTs to bcome Sporeans is jus a choice game & in time of crises majority will just run road..

  3. I had worked with expatriates before and my conclusion is that they are nothing more than a myth. I can hardly find any quality except they can talk a lot albeit little substance. Bosses like them because they feel great to have angmo following them and call the boss.

What NUS is experiencing is similar to Tamasek. After scouting around the world for a CEO, it was back to Ho Chin, the best in Singapore or possibly the world. Agree?

    RB

    Not really lah.

There are very talented foreigners but problem is that they do not want to come here to be Dean of Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health.

And yes, these talented foreigners could not build their own countries, failures in their own countries, but they become a great success in America and other western countries.

If they had come to Sinkieland, they could have failed too, just like the Sinkies.

If Joseph Schooling had trained in Sinkieland, he might not have won Sinkieland's first Olympic Gold Medal, u know.

So what happened is that chances are only really dubious foreigners want to come to Sinkieland to pian jiak. (bluff to earn a living).

  5. If they could not even attract Hsien Loong's own talented nephew Li Shengwu to work in NUS or NTU instead of Harvard, what makes u think they can attract talented foreigners to work in NUS or NTU?

What's worse, not only Shengwu did not want to work and live here, Shengwu even attacked Hsien Loong's ka kia (underlings), calling them dogs!

    Can u imagine that?

Not the best in the world lah, but the best in Singapore, and most important, being available for the job. Of course Hsien Loong will agree.

I don't, simply because I am not Hsien Loong.

But if I were Hsien Loong, probably I will agree too, if I have a wife like Ho Ching, and I could also not find anyone better who is available and want the job.

  11. The headlines: "foreigners help to create good jobs for local". "1 foreigner creates 1.5 jobs for locals": From st page. One must go around the world to compare a local "dean" with available deans. Is this silly recruitement to pretend HR does its stupid jobs? Foundamentally wrong. This dean is in this sinkie environment dealing with local nus students, can this dean be compared with another dean at Africa countries, Japanese deans, and all western deans? Silly work seemed to be justified as good job. The current deputy knows the job well ie the problems well. Why he is not a choice? Foreigners are bigger in brains, that s elites theory. The elites never hire a pm from foreign country, why?

    The story of globalization.
    1. Govt charge high rental on JTC HDB. All rental raise above govt level. Firms hire foreigners from top to bottom pinoys ah neh to lower the cost and avoid CPF NS.
    2. With unlimited foreigners, the boss "Fire" the middle age locals to save cost by setting the low level to curb remaining locals hoping for raise. Salary is fixed.
    3. S$ adjusted higher to "curb inflation" (as high as 5.5% when population of foreigners influx was peaked). (S$ was at 1.2 to USD that time). Population influx is good chance to buy houses overseas. Rich men get richer by higher S$.

Was this foreigners influx helpful to create new exports? A court case: a JB botak printed certs as Florida uni master degree holders had scammed 2 local bosses paying S$12k pm for hiring him "foreign talent". Sinkies literary imported unaccountable number of untrue qualifications foreigners working in sinkieland. Many have had PR and new citizenship.

There are 2.5 millions foreigners living on sinkieland. 1 head sends S$1k home, 2millions foreigners sends 2mil k or S$2billions overseas. This is the coffin nail on sinkies prosperity. Asked foreigners to be volunteers to do NS. There was no such platoons in saf. Sinkies defense has to depend on citizens only.

Remember foreigners come with empty pockets. Each month, they bring home at least S$2billions. 20 years is $480 billions loss. No cash, economy can create new jobs? Bluff.
Worst, White papers said sinkieland will have 4 millions foreigners.

Vote for opposition for solutions. The average Asean is at 6% GDP growth in this region. Sinkieland is uncompetitive, with foreigners having low salaries.

A economy depending on foreigners is a strategy call: shooting on own feet. When Marawi kind of shooting is brought into sinkieland, the 4 millions foreigners will run off. Sinkies bosses including civil service will have to pull down shuttles any way. Seats are empty, hiring locals are not familiar with the foreigners controlled positions. There is consequence if keep voting for the pro foreigners politicians.

The social ills of Sinkieland here is worse than the Marawi shootings or terriosts attack...look at for the past few months u c robbery or armed robbery happened right in Sinkieland heartland, these robbers r desperate for monies & wud do anything just to rob & survive, even if these robbers failed they r guaranteed a 'home' with food to makan ( though some mayb painful due to caning if below 50yo)..what's happen to Sinkieland? Even the elderly committed suicides due to monies matters & young kids jumped down from flat due to poor exam results & peer pressures, & the mrt frequent breakdown, high cost of living, unemployment issues, high medical costs & cpf issues etc ( these socio-economic issues r worse than terriosts, too bad the Dafts Sinkies r daft & keep on voting the MIW to screw them as the Oppo dun wan to form govt)..

  15. 70% of Singaporeans are always confident that Singaporeans are world best, if not better.

This fact has been reflected in the Generals' Elections results in almost all the past Generals' Elections.

This fact is also shown very clearly, distinctly and uniquely in the out-of-this-world salaries and bonuses paid to the Ministers and Top Civil Servants and Paper-Scorer Generals.

This fact has been further shown in the Singapore Parliament where every single law or amendment to any law, or the Sacred Constitution, has been passed so easily, without any delay nor the need to seek the opinions and views of the citizens through referendum. Historical records can only show that there was only one referendum ever conducted to seek the views of the citizens. And even that referendum was given two questions, either one of which you answer, the result is the same: Join Malaysia (in 1965).

This fact has just recently been established in Parliament where the PM could act as a witness for himself, as the prosecutor for himself, as a judge for himself and as the jury for himself, even when the whip was lifted and not a single member of parliament even thought of charging the PM for abused of powers, misuse of organs of state, dishonorable conduct and cronyism, the four main allegations his own siblings have brought unto him. And the citizens of Singapore are so happy and please that the crisis of the House of Ox has been blown away by simply conducting two days of 1st class display of "Democracy At Its Zenith" shows to the world.

This fact has also just recently been show in the citizens so easily and happily accepting an Indian-Muslim as a Malay just become she happens to be accepted by a few people whose decisions nobody dared to challenge, or if challenged in court will most probably never succeed.

This fact has now been established that in a Multi-Racial Society like Singapore, Race and Racist can be played for political advantage as long as you are in power. And this has been happily accepted by the citizens without any difficulty at all.

So, how can anyone say Singaporeans got no confidence in Singaporeans? You tell me lah!

Problem is, what is right balance to u is not right to PAP.

  22. Simple: Balance is lost when they get foreigners to replace locals in jobs locals want.

Correct. And this is no good for locals.

But for PAP, even if this is no good for locals, PAP is confident that they can still win the election with at least 90% seats, as proven in GE 2015.

And to PAP, this is good when it can contribute to GDP growth, even if no good for locals. And minister bonuses are pegged to GDP growth.

So if I were a PAP minister, why would I care whether it is no good for locals, tio bo?

So, even a successful invasion will not spare the Invader from great damages when weapons of mass destruction are rain on them(invader) at their homeland. lt can be very devastating. Sinkieland has weapon of mass destruction? Rain on invaders to kill their own NS men as well?

Kind of Aladin story. Sinkieland had been invaded by Japanese and occupied for 3 years 8 months.

The same land can still be invaded and occupied for another 3 years and 8 months. Why not? If there is weak defense, when invaders collude with foreigners already staying on it as 5th columns?

5th column working with invader is increasing probable when foreigner population of a particular neighbor is increasingly strong politically.

Sinkie army is built from born Sinkies. No Sinkie army will rain weapon of mass destruction on its own land. This part Sinkies should have confidence on it, be it Pap or Opposition in govt. They will not do self suicidal destruction.

Sinkie army should not do the same to their neighbor because Sinkies need foods importing from neighbors.

    ReplyDelete
  31. True or not? Do we really have weapons of mass destruction? How come we can know?

This is top secret stuff, like how much reserves we have with GIC/Temasek/CPF? Even the late President Ong Teng Cheong was not allowed to know leh! He is supposed to look after our reserves, but cannot understand how he can look after that money when he is not supposed to know how much we have.

They told him it will take 50 man years to work out. Wonder what that means? Now, how many years ago was it that Ong Teng Cheong asked this question and he is already gone for quite sometime. I guess 50 years from then is still a long way off. Prataman and KFC Tan probably also do not know, but they have been looking after the money, that they do not know how much, all these years. Rest assured there is nothing to worry about when Harimau Yakult is given the key to the secret reserves that nobody knows how much.

I love all mysteries, the reserves and weapons of mass destruction especially.

  32. UBTS, accounts clerk from Matland just 21 years can schemed and misappropriated 338K.

It will take 50 man years to finalise what's our reserves are.

So need from OTC's time another how many more Presidents before they can finalize the accounts.

But unfortunately, after OTC, no other President asked for the finalization.

So, either have to sweep under the carpet or maybe Harimau will ask for it!!

Or Dragonfly can only fly fly and make some noise, and can't even sting like a bee?"

    by Anonymous @ August 14, 2017 2:51 pm

    Explanations:

    1. First, it could not attack the substance I propounded, so it attacked the person - ad hominem attack

    2. It display the arrogance of a person/party which believes that nobody can touch them - "what can they do?", in order to sow despair among the commoners; in other words telling the public that resistance is futile, so that absolute power can be maintained. This is a very devious and subtle way of brain-washing, which has been going on in this blog almost everyday.

    3. It avoided the bottom line of my comment and asked a question that common sense would tell us that nobody at present can challenge the PAP, not even all the Opposition Parties combined. Yet it is asking one person in this blog to lead a political party to contest 100% seats. Isn't such a question stupid, unreasonable, absurd and an insult?

    4. Moreover, the three questions it asked are totally irrelevant to the points I have raised. This is called distraction and deflection.

    5. It is so pathetic that it could not contribute to the discussion sensibly but to resort to making fun of my nickname "Dragonfly". This clearly shows how petty and shallow it is.

  35. "So after OTC no other President ask for finalization" unquote

That is the reason why they have to be very careful who they want to be President, and that is the reason why Tan Cheng Bock cannot be President because he is bound to ask the 'how much or where is the money question, and that is also the reason why they change the law to have a Malay as President to ensure that TCB cannot contest because of the race factor.

Moving goalpost has been perfected to an art by the PAP because they know that the 70% dafties will never understand the aim of the plot as it thickens.

Anyway, I do think IBs do make reading more interesting. I also feel that some remarks do sound logical despite those that got 'attacked' and spite at are uncomfortable.

Me am not very comfortable with comments from time to time. But, l certainly accept the FACT, that Ideology is DEFINITELY not an OBJECTIVE Subject and hence, it is always good to be exposed and discussed at both ends and at varying angles.

Yes, personal attacks are unpleasant and those who do it are usually pretty conceited.

One got to learn to argue reasonably and be more tolerant.
There is a guy here that gets much personal 'attacks' frequently. When he disappeared from here; readers here can be seen to miss him.
l myself always appreciate his vulgar rebuttal and attack in responses.
