Roy Ngerng – Son of Chai Tau Kuay versus natural aristocracy

Can you believe it, it is happening. Earlier I made a post about this election turning into a contest between the ordinary average Singaporeans against the nobles and aristocrats, now we have a Chai Tau Kuay hawker’s son taking on the son of the aristocracy.

Roy Ngerng has announced that he is joining Kenneth’s Reform Party and he is going to contest in Ang Mo Kio GRC. He is bringing his fight to Hsien Loong’s home base, the unshakable fortress of PAP, the seed and source of PAP’s power as my gemancer friend told me. To shaken, loosen or to remove Hsien Loong from Ang Mo Kio will be a deafening blow to the story of the PAP.

The issue now is what kind of team would Roy be able to garner to fight along his side to take on Hsien Loong’s team that are likely to be the best Hsien Loong could get. Oops, Ang Mo Kio is for once going to face a serious challenge and it is no longer a safe ward anymore. Light weights would not be allowed as they would weigh down on the sampan. Everyone in the team must now be able to carry his own weight. No more home run free.

And how would the battle be fought between one that has nothing to lose and one that has everything to lose? For sure, Hsien Loong would have his hands full and would not have the privilege to grace the rallies of weaker PAP teams. He is going to fight for his life, to be elected and to remain the PM. Losing Ang Mo Kio is unthinkable. It would likely be the turn for many ministers to take time off to speak in Ang Mo Kio’s rally to give him a helping hand.

And the issue will be Roy’s favourite topic, your CPF money. This will be the most uncomfortable and difficult topic for Hsien Loong to defend, if it is defendable. It hurts the people’s pocket, really painful. And the power logic used to lock up people’s life savings, to be spent on the miraculous Medisave Life, would be put to the severest test. Can power logic holds against the simple logic of my money, my pocket hurts? Power logic loses its power during an election campaign. It is a time of ‘boh cheng hu’ or no govt, no power. The logic of persuasion will be the logic that the voters will be listening to and to believe. No more, I think it is right so I just do it. It is time for the people to think if it is right and to vote accordingly.

The voters will also exercise this same logic, I think it is right so I vote for it. I vote what I think is right, not what you think is right. And many will vote with their pockets.
Just this issue itself will make many voters think very carefully, even emotionally, and illogically. Who doesn’t want to have his own money back, in his own pocket to do as he likes, to go to Batam, to find mei meis or good company, or to start a new biz? Seriously, many would know what they want to do with their life savings.

The GE will be the time for Roy to persuade them to vote for the return of their money and Hsien Loong would have to convince the people who badly need their money not to vote for their money, to vote to let the govt keep their money.

Which argument will be more persuasive? The Chai Tau Kuay son may not be of noble birth, but he has a simple argument, a simple logic that is hard to beat. The ordinary people will understand his simple logic and be on his side. Who does not want to have his own money back in his pocket? The nobility and noble logic of leaving the money in the CPF for the future, forever, will not have the kind of appeal to the people hard on cash.

This will be an uneven contest and will have an unusual ending.

PS. SingFirst and Reform Party are negotiating to contest this GRC. My guess, a combined team is very likely.

  1. A team made up of Roy, KJ, Ravi, Aung Juan Soon Chee, Mrs Yee could be a "potential homecoming" ..... on SG50 ?

Roy Ngerng will be doing many PAPigs a favour by getting LHL voted out.
I bet you many of them (PAPigs) secretly will love to see him voted out.
Don't you guys ever notice that PAP's leadership renewal never includes LHL or LKY?

The thought of 20 more years of LHL as senior minister and Mentor Minister fills me and (I'm sure) many PAPigs with dread.

  5. We cannot return CPF money back to Singaporeans.
Otherwise GIC and Temasek may not have enough money to invest overseas.
    Like this then how?

  6. The Sacking of the Ang Mo Kio and Punggol Pasir Ris GRCs will be good enough to weaken PAP WITHOUT and bring it down to its' knees without destroying It altogether.

The Voters in Ang Mo Kio and Punggol Pasir Ris GRCs have the
    POWER TO DO SOMETHING GOOD
    FOR
    THE SAKE OF FELLOW SINGAPOREANS.

PLEASE VOTE IN THE ALTERNATIVE PARTIES
    TO
    REMOVE
    CRONYISM and
    likely OLIGARCHY
if THE PAP REMAINS IN POWER.

WE GOT TO SAFEGUARD OUR WELLBEING AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE FUTURE OF OUR CHILDREN AND THOSE AFTER THEM.

    RB

So? If Kenneth (Cambridge U grad OK) could even lose to an Ah Lian in a by election, and lost his deposit some more, what makes u think Roy can win in a GE against, and of all people, PM Lee?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Seriously, is RB hoping that Roy and team can win in AMK GRC against PM Lee and team?

Nonsense lah. No defense required. Go to the election against a very popular incumbent (and PM, i.e. head of the government) with *ONE* issue (which only a few disgruntled apeks care about)?

    Good luck lah.

  17. If you haven't seen it yet, the latest from "Singapore's Greatest Patriot" (his claim), Amos Yee.

This is great. He addresses his detractors point by point. And he blows his own trumpet too, as is to be expected from a teenager.

  18. If a common lady can beat a Cambridge Graduate and is performing excellently, the Son of a Chai Tow Kuay can deliver as good a result.
Roy Ngerng could prove TO BE A GIANT KILLER. He has shown his BRILLIANCE IN DEFENDING HIMSELF AT HIS COURT CASE.
I HAVE GREAT HOPE IN HIM, I even believe that Kenneth is wise to accept Roy Ngerng into his Team.

Singaporeans are in dire need of CHAMPIONS FOR THE PEOPLE. THE THREAT OF OLIGARCHY OR EVEN MILITARY JUNTA IS REAL, DONT PLAY PLAY I SAY.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO ALLOW A DYNASTY TO GROW nor to allow an Oligarchy or Military Junta to form. These; Dynasty, Oligarchy and Military Junta are anachronistic and lousy systems that had been discarded and replaced with more equitable and better systems.

Older Sinkies should and must be prescient to the growing angst against PAP over the Last Two Decades. THE ANGST DO NOT COME ABOUT FOR NO REASON.
WE ARE SEEING CRONYISM BLATANTLY PRACTICE BEFORE OUR VERY EYES.

WE ARE SEEING OUR STUDENTS TAKING THEIR OWN LIVE BY JUMPING FROM HIGHRISE BUILDINGS, HANGING THEMSELVES ETC.
WHAT ABOUT SUICIDE ATTEMPTS THAT DID NOT SUCCEED AND ARE NOT REPORTED.

LOOK AT THE ANGST OF OUR YOUNGS, THE YOUTHS THAT RISKED THEIR LIVE TO CLIMB HIGH BUILDINGS TO EXPRESS THEIR DISGUST AT PAP.

YOUTHS LIKE ROY NGERNG AND AMOS YEE GETTING THEMSELVES INTO TROUBLE FOR AIRING THEIR ANGSTS.

CAN WE REMAIN NUMB AND CARELESS TO THE PLIGHTS OF OUR YOUNGS AND THE OLD, SOME OF WHICH ARE CLAIMED TO WHILE THEIR FREE TIME RUMMAGING GARBAGE FOR LEISURE AND EXERCISE BY OUR EX-SOLDIER BOY MINISTERS?

    WAKE UP SINKIES!

ALLOWING PAP JUST ONE MORE TERM MEANS WE ARE SKIDDING DOWN THE SLIPPERY ROAD OF NO RETURN.

WE SHOULD NOT ALLOW THE PROSPERITY BUILT BY THE PIONEER GENERATIONS TO BE ENJOYED ONLY BY THE ARISTOCRATS, MANY OF WHOM CAN LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD WITH THE FORTUNES THEY HAVE AMASSED.

    WAKE UP TO TGE REALITY
    AND
    DO THE NECCESSARY.
THAT IS TO RID OUR LAND OF LEECHES, RATS AND OTHER PESTS.

    SAVE OURSELVES OR RISK MORE
    SUFFERINGS.

  21. By presenting the CPF loss very clearly to all Singaporeans, Roy is going to sway voters all over Singapore. Not only AMK will see a swing. Everywhere.

Ask every voter, are you happy losing $1 million of your CPF investment to the government?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Son of Singaporeans Versus Son of Emperor in AMK GRC.
One promises to return our CPF money to us.
The other will not keep the promise of returning CPF money back to us at 55 years old.

One lives in an HDB flat with little salary.
The other lives in a bungalow with million dollar salary.
Who is the best person who will represent OUR values in parliament?

  23. Roy Ngerng and Ravi - the two cleanest citizens in Singapore!

I'm borrowing the words from a very sensible comment in your blog. The PAP must have scrutinised these two with a fine tooth comb and unable to dig up any dirt. I dare say you can't find anybody else who are so brave and have nothing to hide.

If Singaporeans want to choose somebody they can trust, I can't think of any more reliable candidate.

And if Singaporeans want to send a signal to stop the ever increasing foreign invasion and the 10 million population, I can't think of any better way than to boot out the symbolic leader (who actually does nothing of any value). Who knows, the PAP could be even stronger without him. And certainly whoever becomes in-charge in PAP would change the currently disastrous course they are taking.
