Thank you Mahathir

Mahathir is the political enemy that is worthy in character and tenacity, across the causeway, to take on LKY. There was no secret that the two did not see eye to eye in many things and often the enmity became quite personal. They were worthy of each other, both never gave an inch. They fought, they made up, and fought again. I must say Mahathir had many strings to pull to make life very difficult for LKY at times. But the master eventually triumphed and brushed aside whatever obstacles that were placed in his way and made Mahathir to raise his hands in frustration. The water threat, the crooked causeway, the Malayan Railway land, to name a few.

Mahathir made two important points in his tribute to LKY in his blog. In the first he unravelled and confirmed a controversial fact during the troubled times when Singapore was in Malaysia. The cause of the racial riots in Singapore was never admitted officially and both pointed the fingers at the other. And this is what Mahathir has written.

‘I first met Kuan Yew when I was a member of Parliament in 1964 after Singapore joined Malaysia in 1963. We crossed swords many time during the debates. But there was no enmity, only differences in our views of what was good for the newborn nation. He included me among the ultra Malays who was responsible for the racial riots in Singapore. Actually I never went to Singapore to stir up trouble. Somebody else whom I would not name did.’

The last sentence should settle the issue once for all. His second point is about the value of independence. The founding fathers fought hard for the independence from colonial rule, to become independent countries, to rule ourselves for the good of our own people, not for the colonial masters or for foreigners. This is what Mahathir wrote.

‘Now Kuan Yew is no more. His passage marks the end of the period when those who fought for independence lead their countries and knew the value of independence.’

The value of independence must not be taken lightly. Singapore’s historical record is there to warn the people not to take our independence for granted. It was under the British Empire, then conquered by the Japanese, voluntarily joined Malaysia only to find the marriage painful to bear. We are now independent, masters of our own destiny. Would we lose it again, by our own stupidity or negligence, to be ruled by foreigners from other land? Would the people become subjects all over again or be forced to leave this island inherited from their forefathers who fought hard for it?

Thank you Mahathir, for the timely and rude reminder. We need it before some fools give this island away one day, on a silver platter.

    Was LKY really that good?
Or maybe it was the loyal support of daft Singaporeans that gave LKY the strength he needed.
    - Singaporeans made LKY look good.
Mahatir never enjoyed such daft and unquestioning support from Malaysians.

    1. Right, until now, today the daft Singaporeans still believe in Him.

Some even praise him to be a demi-god.

One long time childhood friend of sixty years, a hardcore anti PAP man now told me LKY must be s great man and must be right as so many people snaked to pay respects to him.

Also, so many world leaders praised LKY.

See how naive, daft and simplistic sinkies are.

They simply followed and swayed by what others with no minds of their own.

      Sigh

This Madhater finally confirmed that it was UMNO agitators and instigators who caused the racial riots in Singapore. The fact that he knew who went to Singapore shows that he was part of the conspiracy. He did not need to go down to Singapore to cause trouble. He already spewed so much poison in KL to work up the Malays against the Chinese. Hitler did not need to operate the gas chamber.

Now, would Madhater next confess that he was also involved in May 13.

    Tiok.
Singaporeans may be independent from our British and Japanese colonial masters.
But, are Singaporeans independent from our PAP colonial masters?
    Is Singapore truly independent?
Or is Singapore a PAP colony?
Does Singapore & Singaporeans exist only for the betterment of PAP?

  4. Mahathir had to be what he was to be the former PM of Malaysia.

LKY had to be what he was to be the former PM of Singapore.

    To each his own.

  6. Your view that LKY triumphed over Mahathir shows that you too are unconsciously influenced by the official narrative. The fact is that both The Brits and the US will never allow Mahathir to do us in as LKY was a key ally in their scheme of things, including the containment of Soviet and Chinese influence. And Mahathir knows that.

  7. History! No point looking back.
No matter what had happened, all
    leaders were right. They fought
    very hard for their countries!

What is most important now as
mentioned by uncle rb is that we
    are now independent, masters of
our own destiny, we must not lose
it again , to be ruled by foreigners.

So going forward, we must protect
and continue with the hard work
and the success story left by
Mr Lee, his team, our forefathers
    and the many many sacrifices.

    This is it!

    Today, we shall.................

    建国总理 李光耀先生

    谢谢! 谢谢! 谢谢!

    一路好走!

  9. "Independence" of a cuntree is nothing more than swapping a foreign overlord (The British) for a local one (The World's most famous Benign Dictator). What better than to be ruled, owned and socially engineered by one of your own sons?

I think it's a helluva good deal. Look how awesome Singapore is today. Look at how the world's tin pot dictators and political asshole flock, like people coming to worship the baby jeezuz.

Can you, yourself have such a profound global impact?

  10. Now LKY is no more. Singapore will now go back into the control of foreigners? Maybe, ie. if the current trend of FT import continues. Foreign investment is crucial for the economic health of this little rock. Without it Singapore will return to the third world status. FTs coming by the planeload to make up the 6.9 million target will make true blue Singaporeans a minority. This is what Singapore will be in 50 years from now.

  12. “Singapore.....faces an ageing and shrinking population. Last year, the birth rate was 1.15, with the Chinese leading the decline among other races.....Our choice must be the other one – taking in immigrants. I know Singaporeans do not feel very comfortable seeing so many strange new faces, but the alternative is economy stagnation and worse, nobody to look after our old people later on.”
The late LKY, speaking at a Lunar New Year gathering in his constituency of Tanjong Pagar in 2012

  13. That's why even without foreigners, Sinkies, with their low and below replacement birth rate, will still become extinct all the same in the long run.

So want to have more foreigners or not, u tell me lah?

    1) The issue is discrimination against Singaporeans. NOT immigration.

    2) Nobody to look after our old folks?
Pay Yew million dollar salary for what?

    3) When two new immigrants come in.
They are followed by their old parents.
Now we have four more old folks to look after.
You think immigrants don't have filial piety is it?

  15. With more foreigners, there will still be a Singapore but with new Sinkies in the long run.

Without foreigners, there will be no Singapore and no Sinkies.

If I were PM Lee, of course I will choose to have more foreigners lah, tio bo? And for doing that, are there even enough real unhappy Sinkies to vote PAP out?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think what the late LKY meant was that with more foreigners, there can be more old folks homes staffed by young foreigners to look after old real Sinkies in the future lah.

What I am not sure of is whether it will work that way.

If not, then I think it will create even worse problems for real old Sinkies in the future.

But anyway, there is also JB and Batam to consider lah, now or in future.

      By time it's too late

Alas, now has to stay alone in Melaka or Penang as spouse and children glued to goggle box watching LYK kuo yok drama

Now one anti PAP votes instead of three. Walking the dog whole estate empty of residents . Must be watching also with tissues on hands

    Actually hor, it may be more accurate to say;
Without LKY and PAP, there will be no more anti-Singaporean policies.
And of course more Singaporean babies will be born as a result of a more pro-Singaporean environment.

If I were a Singaporean, of course I will choose to have more Opposition MPs lah, tio bo?

  19. Mahathir's failure to make M'sia great is due to his preoccupation with corruption, cronyism and nepotism, unlike LKY in Singapore.
In his own words, M'sia instigated racial riots in Singapore.
    With neighbours like dat,
    Who needs enemies?
    Those who like Mahathir and M'sia should just migrate there;
Mahathir and you deserve one another.

  20. Hi, I am most curious about the one thing Dr M raised in his eulogy for LKY.

So who is the 'person' who was sent to SG to stir the riots? whom he never name.

Could it be Lim Yew Hock? Didn't he become a malaysian after that, working for Tun and as commissioner to Australia? Could he have been the stooge for Malaya at that time, setting the downfall for LCS?

What were some of the views among the citizens then?
