All the fuzz and buzz about trains and dog

These few days the buzz is all about trains and dogs. A forumer sent me this to show his unhappiness over the ill treatment of dogs and animals. Human beans are often oblivious to what they do to the animals and what seemed good or right for the beans could be cruelty to the animals. I hope no one would suggest tying a string over the dogs urinal organ if it go peeing everywhere. It is so easy and convenient for the human beans to do it to the animals.

I refer to the above.
I strongly oppose to both the debarking methods proposed to be used to debark the dog, ie use of debarking collars or through surgery.
I feel the owners should be trained instead. Give the dogs freedom, and not let them be caged or leashed to a corner of the house. Dog barks because they are bored and stressed. Take them out for regular execise, give them more attention. Treat them like family members.

I suggest that HDB, AVA, and SPCA or other relevant authority make visits to homes reported to have dog barking nuisance, and see for themselves how the dogs are being handled. If dogs are being chained or caged, the owners should be warned, and if necessary, repeat offenders be fined or dogs taken away and owners be charged in court for animal abuse. The law should be changed to provide for the welfare of dogs.

  1. Somehow the keeping of dogs in HDB flats is not very appropriate. Dogs need lots of space and in most HDB flats space is very limited. There will be many who will disagree, but this is my 2 cents worth.

  2. I wonder if the writer is really talking about dogs or Singaporeans?
    - seems like both animals also share similar sufferings from their masters

  3. Some already calling Sinkies as dogs. So what is the difference?

The people have been put on a leash for too long and did not know the difference whether the leash is on their neck or not.

  4. Only a no brainer would allow such dogs in a flat.
Such dogs are only suitable to be on the dining tables and we should allow killing and eating of dog here.Learn from the Korean and Chinese how they slaughter and eat dog meat and its benefit.
Spending those unnecessary money on surgery or training is useless.

Sad to see many Sinkies fail to care for their elderly at home, give the elderly a monthly allowance but daily treat the dog or pets as their favorite.,can rush the pet to see animal doctor but fail to find time to accompany their elderly for hospital visits.

Sinkies should be educated .Dog meat is edible. It can make one stronger.Good for men.Either leave them alone or leave them on the dining table.

  5. I too agree that HDB should not allow flat owners to keep dogs without prior written permission given by HDB. Merits should be given only to small dogs and no debarking methods employing protruding metal collars and caging of dogs must be the preconditions for approval.

  6. In a statement issued in response to Channel NewsAsia's enquiries on Thursday (Aug 28), HDB said the notice has been taken down and apologised for the anxiety caused to dog owners.

I am surprised that in the first instance we have such irresponsible government officers who can display such illed will, inconsiderate, and inhumane thoughts in handling communal welfare matters.

Cant imagine how if same train of thoughts are being applied to silence opposing voices in politics.

  8. Most people live in close quarters in Singapore.

I would like to see a law where EVERY DOG living with owners in hi rise be DEBARKED BY LAW.

i.e. no debark means no dog ownership for you.

    Govt: Pass the law lah!

  12. Dogs have better protection of course.

Kick a dog and you will be punished, whether the dog complain or not. Automatic punishment.

Kick fellow Singaporean and nothing will happen unless the victim lodges a police report.

Ordinary Singaporeans are 4th class citizens, behind the rich and powerful, foreigners and now dogs.

  13. Which country has the strictest animal welfare laws?
Animal cruelty are generally of two types: ACTIVE AND PASSIVE.

PASSIVE CRUELTY are cases of neglect, in which the cruelty is a lack of action rather than the action itself. Examples are starvation, not giving water resulting in dehydration, infestation by parasites, no shelter or total inadequacy of shelter in bad to extreme weather conditions, allowing a collar to grow into an animal’s skin, and failure to seek veterinary care when necessary. ACTIVE CRUELTY are actions of malicious intent, like deliberately and intentionally causing harm to an animal. Acts of intentional animal cruelty may be indicators of serious psychological problems. There is a link between battered pets and battered women and children. Women also have been perpetrators of animal cruelty. I have run across too many cases of these, and sometimes it is sickening to remember some of them. I have seen reports and actual cases of people...even pouring gasoline and setting fire to a dog!...totally outrageous human behaviour! Sometimes it is hard to believe that there are people that exists in this world capable of such heinous acts.
As a bare minimum, an international standard of animal welfare would include:
    - animals farmed for food or fur kept in sanitary conditions.
    - animals being slaughtered should be dispatched swiftly and humanely and not in the sight of living animals which would be distressed.
    - animals should not be used for any scientific testing other than legitimately legally sanctioned medical research, and that such animals should be kept in comfortable conditions with veterinary care, and where possible or necessary, with anaesthetics. Surgery should not be performed on animals without such precautions.
http://www.animallaw.info/articles/ddusi... This comparison of animal welfare laws suggests that Norway and Switzerland have fairly strong animal welfare laws.
The Swiss have among the strictest (if not the strictest) animal protection laws in the world. They have comprehensive laws regulating the care of animals including the size of rabbit cages, and the amount of exercise that must be provided to dogs. If you are not able to attend to a dog's exercise requirements, for example, don't even think of owning one, because sooner or later, you will come to grief with Swiss animal protection laws.

Apparently cockfighting in Nicaragua is so popular that they made an exception for it in their "biocide" law which carries criminal penalties.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/38911... UK animal welfare law overhaul 2004
The UK has had a long tradition of banning "vivisection" and may have fairly strict laws.
I think the uk has gotta be a candidate, a few weeks ago my friend accidentally ran over a wild rabbit and injured it, we called the rspca and i was amazed how supportive they were. They took it in and nursed it better before giving it to an Animal sanctuary. How many other countries have got a charity that would do this ? Just as a side note I think it is amazing the disparity there is in animal welfare around the world, the way some other supposedly 'civilised' countries treat animals is horrible, whether its the Koreans eating dogs or the Norwegians killing whales i am always thankful that we live in a country that cares for animals, no matter what creatures they are. In fact in the UK such protection now extends to octopuses, the only invertebrate with any legal protection in the UK. That's quite strict.

If you really own your HDB flats.
You can keep any dog you want.
Any size, any time, bark or debark.
Because HDB owns your HDB flat.
That is why you must ask for HDB's approval.
This is the difference between owning your HDB flat and owning the lease that says you can stay there (subject to HDB's evolving rules & regulations).
