The thinking of a non nation state

Andrew Loh wrote an article, ‘More foreigners to be police officers’ in the Online Citizen. His article highlighted the growing number of foreigners employed in the SPF and the Auxiliary Police as well as the unarmed security officers. In the latter, out of 60,000 unarmed security officers, 35,000 are foreigners. When asked in Parliament, Chee Hean did not exactly reveal the number of foreigners in the Police Force but confirmed that foreigners have been recruited since 1970.

The hiring of foreigners, ie PRs, as police officers is like a natural thing in this non nation city state. According to Police Operations Director Lau Peet Meng as quoted in Today paper, “diversity within the force is good to keep up with changes in society…We need, to some extent, some sensitivity to understand our foreign population,” he said. “The danger is if it’s (purely Singaporean), you will lose touch with the people you’re policing.”

What this city state is doing is Uniquely Singapore as no other Asean state will do the same, to recruit foreigners into their police force so happily and so comfortable with their presence. In Malaysia, they are even paranoid in having too many of the non bumiputra citizens joining the police force for political and security reasons. In our global city, no nation concept, free open border, free immigration policies, there is absolutely nothing to worry about with foreigners in the police force. We even have foreigners turning new citizens sitting in Parliament. But that is only a natural development when anyone living in this island, citizen or not, has a share of this place.

Nothing untowards will happen to this global city state even if the foreigners were to become the majority in the island and take over this island. And it is only natural, with their greater presence to have greater representation in all aspects of life and economic activities in the city, including representation in the police, the military and political office. It is meritocracy regardless of race or nationality. Only a non nation state will subscribe to such thinking.

As long as the citizens are comfortable with the ever growing presence of foreigners in this non nation city state and do not get agitate for losing their special position and rights as citizens, then everything is ok. By the time 6.9m is a reality, foreigners can be everywhere, employed in all ministries, a natural thing to come.

What was the intent of Andrew Loh to write his article on the growing presence of more foreigners in the Police Force? What is his message or concern? Personally I would be furious if a foreigner in uniform were to check on me just because he didn’t like my face. I am a NS man, pledged to defend and die for this nation, or has it become a non nation? Why should I be searched or questioned by a foreigner in my country when I was trained to protect and fight to prevent foreigners from taking over this country?

You tell me lah.

  1. It's not that the PAP want to take foreigners.

It is because there are simply not enough Sinkies willing to become policeman!

Unless PAP force Sinkies to become lah, just like NS in the army.

But PAP think it is better to force Sinkies to be soldiers than to be policeman lah.

    Why?

For the same reasons why 60% Sinkies think it is better to vote PAP to be govt than to vote opposition.

  2. If they don't bring in 2m foreigners you don't need so many policemen.

  3. How can don't bring in foreigners when there are not enough Sinkies?

And why are there not enough Sinkies in the first place?

And being not enough, why are Sinkies not reproducing themselves enough some more?

Whose fault, u tell me lah?

  4. NS men are engaged to protect migrants whereas foreigners are taken in to protect the interests of Singapore....Uniquely Singapore!

  5. It's Sinkies fault for not reproducing themselves enough.

If Sinkies don't want to do it, who can do it for Sinkies, u tell me lah?

Foreigners can only replace Sinkies, not reproduce Sinkies, tio bo?

  6. Our loose immigration policy is the mother of all our problems that we are facing now like transport overcrowding, housing and hospital beds shortage, good job shortage and essential manpower shortage like doctors, nurses, policemen and bus drivers. Common sense will tell you that for a small country to import 2 millions people in 15 years time will be like having cancer and slowing dying. More and more of our green spaces are used to build houses. The weather is getting hotter and hotter and with the coming haze, we will suffocated. Those who proposed the 6.9 million population should face the wrath of the people. VTO.

  8. More PRCs would love to be in SPF. Then they can look after their sisters in Geylang, earn a salary, and get some fringe benefits along the way. What a marvelous job !

I wholeheartedly agree. The cultural mix is changing. That has to be reflected in the domestic security policy. Not only does it make sense, it is necessary.

    >> Personally I would be furious if a foreigner in uniform were to check on me just because he didn’t like my face.

Hahaha....that can happen even if the cop is a local. Have you seen police road blocks? If you ride a motorbike or have a souped up "cheap" car, you sure kena stopped. If you drive an Audi R series, Jag, Beemer or Merc they let you pass.

C'mon lah redbean, once a cop is trained, like an NS man is trained, they serve as one force, one unit. It is in the TRAINING that causes cultural differences to decrease in importance -- which is purposely intended anyway.

    Good move by the SPF!

  12. I hope the rest of the world can adopt sg policy on immigration and this world will be a better place. Years ago, people do not need a passport to move to another country. Now, people need a passport, visa and a lot of monies to move to another country. This world is getting less free. Those who preached freedom are actually the ones who step up more boundaries to make freedom less accessible.

If sg has 30m people, we can easily take over the neighbor and we will have no shortage of resources. I think that is the secret aspiration of the current rulers. Afterall, the old man was kicked out because of this ambition and thus, he groomed the son to fulfill it.

  14. Before we hit 7m we would be taken over by the new arrivals/citizens.

About twenty years ago, that has already happened. We were already flooded with people from the neighbour.

All politicians, all over the world, are evil. They implemented policies based on their selfishness not graciousness. They do not care whether you die or live so long as they themselves live and get richer.

  18. Do not take our independence for granted. Do not give is away so easily.

Without a country of our own that we can call home, we will become stateless, boat people.

Sinkies must bear this in mind and not to lose this country of yours.

  19. Sg is the only cumtree in this world that got independence without even wanting one. Losing it is not big deal since it only comes with liabilities.

  20. For people who have collected a pile and waiting to run road, sure no problem. But the rest of the average Sinkies that have no where to run, see got problem or no problem when they lose their country.

  23. Knn, sell the country to foreigners and there will be no more manpower shortages when the new foreign govt will flood the island with anyone willing to pay to stay here just like squeezing 20 heads inside a HDB room.

This govt is utterly silly to let the foreigners come in here for free and get rich. Make them pay for a human COE at $100k or $200k a piece for 10 years.
