Foreign leader telling our govt what to do?

‘Merinews.com, 2 May 2014
Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and President Tony Tan Keng Yam have been urged to put an end to blatant discrimination reportedly prevalent in the rental housing market of Singapore against Indians.
Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that rental listings saying “no Indians” should not be acceptable in the 21st century, especially in Singapore which claimed to promote multiculturalism and racial harmony.
Zed argued that racial discrimination should not be condoned and a legislative effort might be required for a more specific anti-discrimination law in housing.’

The above is a sign of more things to come when foreigners and foreign govts think they have a right to tell our govt what to do, a kind of interference with our domestic affairs. So how should our govt respond to such remarks? Don’t forget, if we don’t comply and don’t behave respectfully to their demands, they may pull back all their workers and not allow them to work here. Then we will not have cheap labour and no economic growth. You want economic growth?

What do you think? Should our govt say yes, yes, we will do as you wish? Or would the govt show him the middle finger? The advertisements for ‘No Indians and No PRCs’ are done by private landlords who have had bad experiences with these group of foreigners. And it is their right as to who they want to rent out their properties to. Tiok boh? Many have had very bad experiences with the tenants and ended losing a lot of money. Should our govt tell this foreign leader to go and reflect on his people and educate his people to respect the properties rented to them and live like decent respectable Singaporeans with proper hygiene and cleanliness?

Or maybe they can squat at the Istana garden if they cannot find a landlord willing to let their properties to them. This could be a good compromise solution. And it is a temporary problem. Once Sinkies are used to their unhygienic country bumpkin lifestyles, once Sinkies have integrated with their way of life, I think it will no longer be a problem. Just get use to the untidiness, the smell of unclean homes and unwashed bodies. These are the experiences of those who have rented their properties to them or who have lived next to them. Welcome to the new Sinkieland of 3rd World living. We are progressing into the 3rd World.

Though not all are bad and dirty tenants, it only needs a few bad experiences and the landlord would only want to play safe to protect their properties. Is it wrong for the landlord to protect themselves or is it another form of xenophobia?

  2. I had the misfortune of renting out my four bedroom apartment in district 10 to an expatriate Indian family of 5 for 3 years.

At he end of 3 year lease, the stench of the "Indian smell" refused to go away from my apartment no matter how we aired the apartment by leaving all the windows opened for a few weeks.

Eventually my agent recommended that I fumigated the whole premises and have it repainted.

The situation did improve, but the smell still lingers on.

Thereafter I made it a point to all my agents: No Indians!

  3. We need to integrate more and soon everything will be fine. it is only a matter of getting use to it, desensitising the nose.

Please lah. Grow the fuck up, then wake the fuck up. everyone has the "right" to freedom of speech. Just because I tell you to "jump in the lake" doesn't mean you have to follow my "advice". I thought they already told you this in primary school lah.

    >> What do you think? Should our govt say yes, yes, we will do as you wish? Or would the govt show him the middle finger?

No middle finger lah. Just respond in calmness thanking the guy for his "input", and that's it. No further dialogue necessary. No need to become all defensive and "insulted". In other words, don't become a reactionary like redbean and take offense at every small little piece of bird shit that drops on your head lah.

Anyway, there are plenty of landlords like myself who will rent to ANYONE as long as they pay, and keep paying. Money is non-bigoted and the most neutral of all human inventions. Money has allowed commerce and trade to occur between disparate cultures. Money is egalitarian -- the best equaliser of all. The best tool for racial harmony and multiculturalism is MONEY.

Welcome foreigner! Please sign long lease, keep working hard to pay your rent to your non-racist, multicultural landlords :-)

  5. P.S. Every "annoyance" can be monetised by contractual arrangement. If the tenant/ client is going to cost you more to "service", then increase your charges so you maintain the value of your asset.

I tack on a "cleaning fee" at the beginning of every lease. You want, you pay. You don't want, then rent from someone else. Simple as that.

  8. Matilah_Singapura,

You landlord meh? For a chap who spends all his time behind the keyboard, at best you only belong to the HDB class. Maybe at most 3 room type in Woodlands, Sengkang or Jurong!

  9. Aliens have their rights to demand equal treatments. They paid for their places in Sin and are therefore entitle to consumer rights. The seller must accord the customers their expectations and demands.

  10. Relac lah. Most sinkies are actually very smart. Most of them are like Matilah have several residence rights in several cumtrees or have families in other cumtrees and can easily move if this place starts to stink. Sacrificing fighting for your cumtree is all along a big fat deception and the real truth is to protect the wealth of the selected few rulers.

  11. Actually I will also be very fused if people put on a "no asians" sign in a white men country. Those landlords just have to learn how to play the renting game better.

Like I said before, you all focus on me where there are literally tens of thousands of people like me and the numbers grow by the day. Every "successful new citizen" from India, PRC, Pinoyland and the west has "options" and protect their interests. They will be owners of properties in their own cuntrees, financed by their "good times" in Singapore. Many of them will also buy properties in Singapore. Can you blame them for maximising their "good luck"?

C'mon, it is the smart thing to do. If you don't exploit opportunity to protect yourself and enhance your life, you are a blind fool who lives in a delusion.

    Got 'Plan B"?

  13. Should the blind foolish govt tax them for providing such an attractive financial option to them?

Or are the blind and foolish govt going down on their knees to beg them to enjoy this great financial option thinking that the foreigners are stupid and cannot see how great is the option and don't know how to exploit it?

  14. @1113:

You may think all sorts of negative things about the Singapore govt, and be correct much of the time.

However "blind and/or foolish" they most definitely are not. The Singapore govt has eyes everywhere and are meticulous planners with laser-focus on specific objectives, bringing vast resources from anywhere in the world to bear, if necessary.

i.e. The fuckers control everything lah!
