What is happening to this ten tribe country?

We are quickly turning into a country of ten tribes. And we are so proud of it. This will materialize in 2030 or earlier when we invite enough foreigners to boost our population to 6.9m. By then it is not inconceivable that we may have 10 official languages with the new tribes demanding for recognition of their languages and cultures. We may have ten different TV channels to cater for the interests and needs of the ten tribes as well. Good for the economy and the media industry and there will be more celebrities to mingle with and ogle.

As we are preparing to walk down this road of being a global city with people from all over the world calling this fabulous city their home, it is important to change the mindset of the Sinkies to be more open and receptive of foreigners and their way of life. The barrage of attacks in the internet against the Pinoys wanting to celebrate their Independence Day is very unbecoming and cannot be tolerated. How can Sinkies be so anti foreigners?

According to Mathew Mathews, a senior research fellow at the Institute of Public Policy Studies, the Sinkie attackers thought the Pinoys were taking over their space, their favourite and pride, Orchard Road, by celebrating their Independence Day right in front of Ngee Ann City. But the foreigners are already everywhere! Sociologist Paulin Straughan from NUS was quoted in the media to say, ‘there is no justification for such behavior, and that it is worrying.’

Indeed there is no justification for such xenophobic behavior. Indeed it is worrying. How are we going to achieve 6.9m if the foreigners find that they are not welcomed and refused to come? How are we going to make our ten tribe nation a reality if the people cannot tahan foreigners celebrating their national or independence days here? We should be encouraging them to do so and we can have 10 national days to celebrate the whole year round. Very good for tourism and very good for the economy for sure.

And don’t forget about water festivals and whatever farmer’s festivals to add on to our colourful cultural fabric.  Singapore will really be a fun place for the foreigners and also for the Sinkies, if they are opened minded enough to share their little island with them. We must be magnanimous, think global, think that we are having a world city and not a little village in Southeast Asia. We must aspire to be international citizens, starting by being a ten tribe nation first. Once we get used to be like ten tribes and feeling comfortable with it, the next change will be easier. And we can have all the best talents and richest people living among us. Just watching them and serving them will be a pleasure.

PS. Matilah Singapura will be very happy with this article as I am sharing his views of what this island should become. It would be a pity that the Pinoys cancel their Independence Day celebration in Orchard Road. We should have more national day celebrations by all the tribes that have become our citizens. They can invite our ministers as VIP guests to their functions. We will be really a city of celebrations, a fun city.

Do we need more nationalism or internationalism? Or why want to think small and be nationalists when we can think big and become internationalists? What do you think?

Doesn't matter need more this or that lah, as long as it can contribute to GDP growth, we need it.

Doesn't matter Lee Hsien Loong, Teochew Ah Hia or Chee Soon Juan, as long as they are ready to be PM, they will make a good PM.

Doesn't matter black cat or white cat, as long as it catches mice, it is a good cat.

  2. We live in a world where profit is above everything else. Nationalism or whatever cannot keep you feed. Since cannot beat them then have to join them. The more foreigners the gov let in, the more locals can profit, exploit, make money from them. Consider them stupid to come here and let us exploit. Sinkies must convert to become the world most skillful exploiters. Must sieze the opportunity before other countries join in the band wagon.

It's not just a matte of festivals. If people are well intended and peaceful, they should be left alone to party for whatever the reason -- could be national days, could be any-fuckin-made-up-bullshit for fun (the patrons) and profit (the organisers).

Yew need to lighten up and leave people the fuck alone to enjoy themselves. Better yet, actually DEFEND their right to do so.

  4. I SAY AGAIN: Singaporeans have behave shamefully on this matter.

But oh no, they won't cop to it, they will "defend" their POV. Singaporean arrogance? They are the champions!

  8. I have no issues against Filipinos celebrating at Ngee Ann City.
But how come they can assemble without a police permit?
But Singaporeans have to get a police permit?

    I am not anti-Filipino.
I am anti-Traitors and anti-PAP because these pigs are against the good of all Singaporeans.

  9. Does Sin need nationalism or internationalism. Anything will do lah, ten tribes equal 杂种(hybrids) and chapcheng got no nationality to talk about.
And since no nationality, why need to do national service?
    Time to have conscription abolished.

  10. Abolish National Service.
    Yes.
Let's vote Opposition and get National Service abolished.

    What are we defending anyway?
Nothing here in Singapore belongs to me.
Everything is owned or controlled by PAP.
    Let the PAPigs defend Singapore.
I just want to work as a translator for the invader.
    Just like Lee Kuan Yew.

  12. Oh Matilah, we are narrow minded Singaporeans that still helieve in country and nationalism. I know you don't as you have chosen to be a quitter, broad minded international citizens of the world.

  13. i think that someone not in the boat should shut the fcuk up. If you want to talk, climb back into the boat and feel the waves. otherwise you know what you can do with that brown-tongue of yours. capisce, quitter?

  14. Singaporeans are so narrow minded and always consider themselves one cut above others. When other nationality celebrate their festivals in Singapore the Singaporeans kick up a fuss. However when Singapore celebrate Singapore Day in other countries, it is OK. Such selfish mentality and small mindedness. What is wrong with allowing the other nationalities in Singapore to celebrate their national days or festivals? There is no harm at all. So, please do not be such a selfish nation, be a little generous and accommodation. After all the FTs who come to your country help to grow your economy and make you rich. Singaporeans are money minded and helping you get richer should be a good thing for you. Try and get rid your " dirty Singaporean " label. Well at the very least, TRY.

    Song Dynasty famous reformer 王安石:
    "自古驱民在信诚,一言为重百金轻。"

2nd G PM Goh CT promised: "Swiss standard of living" but for many Singaporeans it was more like the" Swiss cost of living" .

    What does "自古驱民在信诚,一言为重百金轻。" means?

The first phrase in simple translation: "Since time immemorial, leading the masses is by trust"

The second phrase: "100 taels of Gold is LIGHTER than a single word of promise. "

Singaporeans were arguably "confronted" with sudden HUGE INFLUX of FOREIGNERS and the IMPACT on many FRONTS were felt especially around 2008/09 or even earlier.

There was No" Swiss standard of living" for many but arguably" Swiss cost of living".

Ever since Goh Chok Tong took over in 1990, university school fees went up from about $2K to an average of at least $8k for even the "CHEAPEST" courses in the 3 major local U. That is over 400% increase.

Meanwhile, spending on foreign students arguably could be bordering more than 1/2 billion SGD per year right now and likely climbing exponentially!

How does the establishment expect the masses to " FULLY" trust the ruling regime?

There are many, many more other issues adversely affecting the masses beside the abovementioned.

Now, perhaps the " trust" for many could be so" thin" that arguably anything and everything "creates substantive unease" .

It is obviously NOT a good sign for arguably all the stakeholders concerned going forward. BUT how to "repair" the "damage"? Obviously, the nation likely CANNOT go on indefinitely in such a "tension filled and distrust" state of affairs.

    Is there an answer?

    Probably yes!

But with the" hardline and deaf frogs" approach by some, it is highly unlikely the "damage" will be "repaired" any time soon.

Meanwhile, ultimately if unresolved, something likely might reach breaking point eventually.

Going forward, how much buffer is there existent in the system before something gives way?

  18. @RB:

People can believe what they like lah. Doesn't make them smart or correct.

Work has to be done for stuff to be produced so modern societies -- which have high population densities -- to survive. We don't live in the jungle or savannah or in an agrarian society when the land could only sustain ten people maximum per hectare. The population density is around 7500 persons per sq km -- so you need to produce A LOT OF STUFF just to keep people alive, nevermind their entertainment, leisure, comforts and luxuries.

So WORK HAS TO BE DONE. As far as I'm concerned it doesn't matter who (what race or culture, local or foreign) does the work, only as long as it is done.

So this "nationalism" and "cuntree" thing, in our globalised world is a figment of your fucking imagination -- irrelevant and unwelcome BAGGAGE from a history quickly fading out of the public mind.

Cling onto old, unnecessary ideas at your own peril. Fact based reality doesn't give a flying shit whether you accept it or not.

Please tell me why you carry a passpost? A figment of imagination? Go and wash up and take a good sleep to sober yourself.

Our Chinese Founding father worked as a translator for the Japanese Imperial Army.
He also cried with bitter disappointment when he found out that he had become the Prime Minister of Singapore in 1965.

    Singaporeans;
Your real day of independence is in GE 2016.
    Not 1965.

so, you've earned and paid for your citizenship, and decided enough is enough and moved on. So move on! shut the fcuk up. why are you interfering in the internal affairs of another country. are you a paid agent provocateur? oh and come collect your smelly chew bye and all her scion from this useless land that you hate so much. why can't you 一刀两断? do you still have $$ interest in sinland perhaps? is that that's why you are riled up over some policies and not others? you can't be a ceo because if you have contacts, you won't be here bickering over our domestic issues. you should worry more about one nation than us, lest you be forced to seek refuge back here, with tail between, loud boastful man. you think 又要马儿跑,又要马儿不吃草 ? bloody opportunist.

  25. WOW! As usual I have successfully attracted scorn and derision from people whose feelings are a tad too sensitive for their own good.

But of course I am very well aware of this, which is why it is such fun winding up these assholes who are dragging Hotel Singapore back from progressing and growing. However, no matter: Singapore is progressing and growing with or without these bad-tempered cunts....and as the saying goes:

"Living well is the best revenge"
