Many are guessing when the next GE will be held. Given that this govt is
only entering its fourth year in office, many are expecting the GE to
be in 2015 earliest. There has been no precedence for the PAP to hold
another GE anytime so early.
There have been signs that the govt is finalizing all the administrative
matters for the next GE. The electoral roll has been compiled and
finalized. A lot of goodies have been rolled out and a few more to
complete the giveaways. The PAP MPs and ministers have been busy doing
their walkabouts. Some bad policies have been moderated and some nice
and humbling comments have appeared in the main media. Two things are
waiting to happen before the game is set, the redrawing of precincts and
the rolling out of new candidates.
For the latter, it has started. In today’s media, two PAP potential
candidates have been named, a Chan Hui Yuh and a Kahar Hassan. It is
likely that more new faces will be put up in the coming weeks. When this
is done, announcing the new precincts is only a matter of days. Just
watch the media closely.
The dreaded social media could be easily reined in with the new
regulations in place and their voice muted if needed be. Now the big
question, could the GE be called any time sooner, this year?
Do not be surprise as this would catch the oppositions with their pants down.
So, what do you think?
With stupid comments made by its current crop of MPs, I wonder if these candidates are scraped from the bottom of the pot?
ReplyDeleteThey are the best in the island.
ReplyDeleteMost GEs are within 4-5 years period except 88-91, 91-97. My guess, 2015 after the national day celebrations and Sea Games.
ReplyDeleteNot this year. The PAP brand doesn't guarantee sure win now, so I think they will want the GE to take place nearing end of this term. I predict it will be after 2nd half of 2015.
ReplyDeleteRB:
ReplyDelete>> The dreaded social media could be easily reined in with the new regulations in place and their voice muted if needed be.
Nah, I doubt it. I reckon it would be a "light touch" approach.
>> Now the big question, could the GE be called any time sooner, this year?
Early or late...makes no difference to me. As long as Singapore is awesome and rocking, I could care less who is running the machine.
And BTW, it really doesn't matter who is in-charge. Politics is a mirror and a consequence of CULTURE, and as always:
The People Get The Government They Deserve.
Amend anon. 11.11am. I predict it will be in 2nd half of 2015.
ReplyDeleteThe PAP may want to wait till next year. LKY cannot wait.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDelete2016 may not be a good year for GE as some had predicted that the world economy is expected to be in recession or suffer the impacts/effects of rising interest rates.
2015 will be a good year for GE but 2015 can be a very busy year. Major events include SEA Games and many many 50th Anniversary celebrations. Oct/Nov are possible months but less likely.
2014 may be a good year for GE. Things are normal, not very busy and the economy is OK/so-so. Oct/Nov 2014 are possible months but Jan/Feb 2015 look more likely.
The is my usual fortune telling for the week.
Cheers.
Indeed, signs are there such as the so-called hyped up Pioneer Generation Package, 50th Anniversary of Singapore's Independence in 2015, have to bring it forward before Senior Lee disappears which may or can happen anytime.
ReplyDeleteWith current COEs damn high and public sentiment towards PAP damn low, it will be political suicide for PAP if GE is held any sooner. I'll bet they will wait until COEs drop to an all-time-low before they will call for one.
ReplyDeleteI agree with WP Teochew Ah Hia that majority (aka 60%) Sinkies, except for those in Aljunied, Hougang and Punggol East, are very scared they accidentally vote PAP out in a GE because WP is not ready to be govt.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't foresee WP ready to be govt by next GE. Do u?
So unless another party with another Sinkie leader can emerge to contest 100% seats against PAP next GE, I foresee that at worst, PAP will have a 93% chance of repeating its GE 2011 outcome and at best, a clean sweep!
What do u think?
Tiok.
ReplyDeleteIn this regard, WP Teochew Ah Hia has the best credentials to believe and trust for now.
Let's face it. If not Teochew Ah Hia, then who, u tell me lah?
That's why smart Sinkies, if they want to become MP, will join PAP. Or rather be invited to join PAP.
ReplyDeleteOnce become PAP candidate, by WP Teochew Ah Hia's solid analysis, will have a 93% chance to become MP.
If join Ah Hia's WP, only a 7% chance.
If join others, 0%(zero) chance. Might as well don't join.
And despite RB and many netizens saying PAP govt is no good!
What an irony in uniquely Sinkie politics!
Mr RB, the boundaries all finalized already.
ReplyDeleteGazetted the constituencies with the boundaries changes already. Not many people paid attention to the Aljunied GRC etc.
In May,some more goodies for the General Population besides the Pioneer Generation Package.
So most likely end of year 2014.
Year of Horse- Ma thaw chen kong!!
Next year Goat- slow and sluggish. Today Asian stocks already stumbling. Cannot wait liao.
Social Media every day cursed cursed. Wait till 2015/16 finished liao. Heads also chow tow.
Normally, Registers finalized, new faces shown- very soon, very soon.
No need wait for the strongest party to contest all seats. Just vote accordingly and let them form a COALITION Government. Beh see want!! Dont worry.
Cheers
ReplyDeleteMy 2-cent worth predictions (believe-at-own-risk) before my lunch are as follows:
in 2014 --- PAP 63%, OPP 37%
in 2015 --- PAP 67%, OPP 33%
in 2016 --- PAP 58%, OPP 42%
Please note that the above is not for your weekend 4-D betting.
Cheers.
So long as we remember that we need more co-pilots, it doesn't make any difference whether or not the election is held today or tomorrow....
ReplyDeleteAnon 12:42 like tang kee like that. Gives so many numbers, 6337, 6733, 5842. Huat ah!
ReplyDeleteMr RB, 6337 most apt. Under magnum number search for this number 6337 meant cast votes.
DeleteGE is imminent is confirmed!!!
Vote for change
I,too, have a feeling that GE is imminent. Perhaps this year end. Next year will be too late with the impending property market collapse from higher interest and over supply.
ReplyDeleteThis year is a good year when the opposition is still in a lovey dovey mood.
Actually hor, for PAP, any time is a good time to hold GE.
ReplyDeleteIt's just a matter of trying to get enough smart Sinkies who already had or make lots of money and willing to become MP.
If I already have lots of money, say a couple of millions $ in reserves, I may not want to become just an MP only. Holding MPS is no fun even only once a week and at $15K per month.
PAP will not wait until near the end of the term. They made the same mistake the last GE, waiting till the final few months, with no good news and some bad press (also the bad sentiments) resulted in history made.
ReplyDeleteThey will call early to catch the opposition by surprise, so the feel-good periods are after NDP this year, after Xmas and New Year's or after general bonus payouts 1Q2015, after they announce more initiatives and goodies for citizens.
One caveat: If LKY meets his maker anytime now, they will hold elections shortly after, to take advantage of the sympathy votes and the massive (and lengthy) coverage by the media hailing his (& PAP's) achievements. If that happens don't be surprised if Aljunied falls.
Tiok.
ReplyDeletePAP may have problem getting enough smart and rich Sinkies to become GE candidate.
But if PAP want bloggers who love kopi kau to be candidate, then maybe no problem.
Because no matter how popular the blogger, can their kopi kau reach $15K month, u tell me lah?
"If that happens don't be surprised if Aljunied falls."
ReplyDeleteAnon 1:53 pm
Not surprised and doesn't really matter too even if Aljunied falls, if WP is not ready to be govt and according to Teochew Ah Hia, PAP govt is competent anyway.
Tio bo, u tell me lah?
"Do not be surprise as this would catch the oppositions with their pants down."
ReplyDeleteRB
By not being ready to be govt, the pants of the opposition are ready down anyway, as perceived by majority Sinkies.
Tio bo, u tell me lah?
Hahaha Anon 1:53, Quick quick fill up my kopi level: )
ReplyDeleteLKY is very old and weak. Anytime is possible. They will exploit his death to the full for the party interest. I think they will make a huge statue next to Raffles, constant media playing of his propaganda, over emphasis of his achievements but not under achievements etc. It will boost the media industry. Time to incorporate a $2 media company.
ReplyDelete'The People Get The Government They Deserve.'
ReplyDelete- in reality, the people get the gov that is controlling the media. people are controlled by what they see, they hear, they discuss.
Hi b, a big statue will be our tourist attraction. Cheap and good. Can sell small statue for tourist to take home as souvenirs too.
ReplyDeleteCome pay respect to the father of modern Singapore.
@RB:
ReplyDeleteNo, there won't be any statue of ol' Harry. Why?
Why? Because everyday there'll be a queue 100's of meters long, of people waiting their turn to piss and spit of the artifact.
And then the women will get into the act, by throwing their used tampons and bloody Kotex® at the statue. They are of exacting "revenge" from LKY's famous comments about Male-centered Polygamy. At the time, many of our fine women were monumentally PISSED OFF. Who can blame them?
This would be a very serious public health hazard -- especially when a few more "creative" Singaporeans start collecting their excrement in bags and throwing it at the Lee Kuan Yew statue. As the bags explode on impact, there'll be shit flying everywhere. Take a moment to imagine this in your mind. OK? Great. Shoik huh?
In the humid climate of Singapore, the stench would be so unbearable, Indonesia will immediately cease burning forests and creating haze, and begging Singapore "Tolong, tolong lah abang...bau busuk, kita dapati tidak tertanggung..mati dalam penderitaan, mampus lah, orang Indonesia !!"
Conclusion: For me, I would love a statue so I can join in the fun. However, in the national interest, I don't think it would be a good idea.
It is imminent.
ReplyDeleteMy MP started walking the grounds last month already.
They are testing and their faces.
My guess late this year or early next year with all the "perceived" adjustments and listening and goodies. They think they got it buttoned up.
Also agree. LKY old fart may earn them some brownie or sympathy votes if his 'timing is 'good'.
If singaporeans swing back so easily with these superficial goodies, then they are truly mistaken. And indeed, will have set the country back for further democratization.
@12.42pm // My 2-cent worth predictions (believe-at-own-risk) before my lunch are as follows:

Halo anon,
Your "prediction" likely could be quite near what could be the "eventual outcome based on most of all current pivotal factors more or less priced in with about +/- 5% margin" .
This does not imply there are no undercurrent of "fatal or terminal diseases" in the system but likely they are not in the very late stage to be "life threatening" YET!
It could be a good time as "nationally the ground could be not sour enough" to deny the incumbent an "overwhelming" victory.
Internally, "with the paramount leader around", unlikely there is any "strong prospect" for a "challenge".
The "timing" could not be " more ideal ".
The Chinese has a saying "夜长梦多".
Nonetheless, there are factors beyond human control. Whether " unforeseen last minute event(s)" might "gate crash" to upset the "current EQUILIBRIUM" cannot be 100% ruled out.
Current "circumstances" point to " some support for alternative voices or some form of plurality".
If it took place yesterday, "circumstances point to an overwhelming landslide for the incumbent".
"VISIBILITY is always inversely proportional to TIME." This could be the "English equivalent" of "夜长梦多".
Nothing is 100% certain in real world BUT what is predictable is IT WILL take place within the next 36 MONTHS!
TIOK BO?
Tiok pls kee chiu!
Hi RB. Speedwing here. GE is imminent. However, in Singapore the GE is just a formality. No opposition is ready to take the place of the current ruling party. I must say, the current government is doing a fine job, as far as I can see. With the rolling out of medical assistance for the pioneer generation and the various bonuses distributed recently, I think Singapore might do better scrapping the GE and saving the money for other more useful ventures. Why undertake the formality of a GE ?
ReplyDeleteNo.
ReplyDeleteLet's have the General Elections anyway.
I want to see which PAP Minister is going to risk his million dollar salary against Low Thia Khiang's team.
Tell me PAP punk.
Do you feel lucky?
How many PAP Ministers do you want to risk at Aljunied GRC to win ?
@ April 11, 2014 10:20 pm
ReplyDeleteWhy not send a deputy Prime Minister to lead the fight in Aljunied GRC?
Why not send in a PAP dream team into Aljunied GRC:
Lee Hsien Loong
Gog Chok Tong
Lee Kuan Yew
DPM Teo
DPM Tharman
Sure win right?
Do you feel lucky?
Another sign that GE is around the corner. More COEs.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks Virgo49 on the confirmation that the precincts have been finalised.
The people get the government they deserve - yes,in a true democracy. So let us not kid ourselves by parroting this hollow statement.
