Policies Good, Politics can do better

This is what sums up the views of Chua Mui Hoong about what’s happening in Parliament and what the Govt has been doing. Before anyone starts to throw chairs and tables at her, let me make a point here. What she wrote is just her opinion. And this is what she called herself, Opinion Editor. Her title says it and you are free to disagree and also you may have your own opinions that may not agree with hers. I think that is fair.

How many of you agree with her that the Govt policies are good? I am stretched to find any. Maybe I will do a contortionist act by agreeing with a few that are good depending on who you are. High ministerial pay is good and helps to fight corruption too. And it gives our President a lot of dignity too.

High property prices are good as they turned Sinkies into millionaires without having to work and can collect higher rentals.

All the changes regarding CPF are good as they made Sinkies smiled at their monthly or quarterly statements that informed them how rich they are till they died. The money is guaranteed to be there, and would not runaway even if preventing the owners from squandering it.

Allowing medical cost to go unchecked is also a good policy as it means the quality must be damn good as good things don’t come cheap. Our medical fees are now like branded goods, paying for quality for those who can afford it. For those who can’t, just stand far far away to admire.

Our policies on foreign talents are even better, starting from paying for their education with generous scholarships to giving them high paying jobs to replace Sinkies that are not good enough despite world class university education that emptied their savings. And fakes are also excellent for the economies, don’t disturb them as long as the employers are happy with them, and the displaced PMEs are not complaining and happy driving taxis to be their own bosses.

I could go on with another long list of good policies, but that would become too boring.  Let me quote Ignatius Low on Housing. ‘It has been this resolve to move quickly without being encumbered by the decisions of his predecessors that has been the basis of Mr Khaw’s success.’ He went on to ask Boon Wan to take a bow for a job well done. I don’t know how many of you would agree but I don’t think it is such a difficult thing to do when someone shitted and vomited all over the place and one has to clean up the mess. But the stench stayed, a lot of money and effort wasted with many home buyers forced to buy sky high priced properties that would strangle them one day when they lost their jobs. They would be displaced PMEs as a matter of time. And there are many high income earners that were either forced to buy expensive private properties, migrated or still depending on renting properties, booted out from buying cheaper public housing.

The damage had been done and the prices are still in high heavens. Good job done?

And how many would agree that the report card for Health and Manpower be rated as satisfactory? As for Transport, appalling is quite appropriate though the report card said, ‘Can and must do better’.

Anyway it is all about personal opinions and it is good that we can share our opinions on things without being personal. A bit of civility will go a long way.

  3. "How many of you agree with her that the Govt policies are good?"
    RB

RB, the more pertinent questions are:

How to tell whether Sinkies agree with her (aka Chua Mui Hoong) that the govt policies are good?

And not just tell (like those bloggers) but also tell in a way that really matters?

    U get the drift?

Or if not, let me tell u straight. Sinkies tell through how majority (aka 60%) Sinkies voted every GE.

And does it really matter if Sinkies agree or not agree with RB, Sinkie bloggers, or even Chua Mui Hoong, u tell me lah?

  4. When the opposition become the govt, I think they (opposition) will find and get their own "Chua Mui Hoong" for Sinkies to agree with.

I am of course speaking hypothetically lah.

And I know WP Teochew Ah Hia is one who hate anything hypothetical, especially about politics.

I remember he said something like: "We will cross the bridge when we reach it."

And obviously at present "not yet reach" lah.

    Hahahahahahaha.

  5. It is how you tell it, the way you tell it. Good or no good policy not important. Get the drift?

  6. Be thankful for you million dollar HDB flat you bought, which you will probably not be able to pay up unless you continue working non stop till you are 80. for that, please take a bow, low low, cos you are thanking the short fuck who made this possible !

  7. Politics can do better?

How? Vote the opposition to be govt?

Tell that to the 60% Sinkies.

Tell that to WP Teochew Ah Hia.

  8. ...you will probably not be able to pay up unless you continue working non stop till you are 80."

So? Will the 60% still vote PAP next GE?

If so, that's what really matters, and not whether u can even live till 80, let alone work till 80.

  9. How about Chua Mui Hoong?
    Her grammar is good.
    Her opinions can do better.

    Quite frankly.
My arse hole has better formulated opinions than Chua Mui Hoong.

  10. Rb Post Title: "Policies Good, Politics can do better"

Politics is historically "OPINIONATED" to be a "dirty" word beyond any description.

Put that context into the statement and you can form your own "OPINION".

But there is also another "OPINIONATED dimension" historically. It is the domain where "cowardice traits are most prevalent".

Again put this additional "dimension" and you can form your own "OPINION" about what it is all about.

She just cannot say the policies are bad but the poliitcs are good, right?

Her piece will not go past the editorial board. She may be asked to stay back to draft and draft her papers umpteen times until she got it right.

She has been in the job many years and developed occupation intelligence t0 get it right the first time. That is to say: write what the bosses want to hear, lah.

Why should she care what is right or wrong?

    Tiok!

Many are still "smugging" away but as you wrote, "the high prices are due and coming due" .....

Many "high prices" ( not dissimilar to Little India Riot, Bus Strike, Geylang Riot etc etc ) akang datang .....

    Sad .....

As shall he sows, so shall he reaps.

Obviously this is what the older generation chose to sow in the early years and they and their younger generations have to contend with it. You sow good, you get it. You sow evil, you get it too. Big payment time might be coming soon ......

    No?

For sure many will live to see the next few years. Look out what will grow up and out from what was sowed previously ..... The next "high prices" to pay may be just "skin deep" and ready to bust and burst out from years of incubation and gestation.

Got guts to face the "music" and pay the "high prices" coming ..... ?

As quoted, certainly RB thinks so too.

This may be metaphorically speaking. "High prices" may not just exist in properties and ridiculous car prices. It is almost systemic and probably might have "infected" the entire "economic eco system" like “termites”.

Well, no need wait another 10, 20 years. The effects likely have kicked in and started a few years ago with Mas Selamat escape, MRT Breakdowns, "ponding", "housing woes" ...... If you think you have seen it all, many are likely to be in for a big surprise or even "shock of their life" ..... over the next few years.

  15. Yes, why is Temasek bailing out Olam at that kind of price? Did they do the due diligence and not another case of buying into duds.

Why $4b? Ask Tony shall we?

  16. I think those bad policies are created to facilitate the locals to migrate to oz. the gov knows very well that oz is much more suitable to sinkies than this small island. they are doing sinkies a favour. they have invested very heavily over there probably they will also take flight there once the bubble(mostly owned by foreigners by then) burst here.

  17. imagine a three/four room hdb flat flat with almost half the lease gone here can buy you a landed freehold house there. a car here can buy you a fleet of cars there. medical care are accessible to everyone and so is pension over there. we can build a successful singapore over there without the land scarcity problem. let the brain rules the heart.

  19. As a hard-core Anarcho-Capitalist (yes, a merry band of loopy fringe wingnuts are we), I go into paroxysms of joy, ecstasy and explosive, almost orgasmic LAUGHTER when government programs or policies fail.

There are many who believe that enjoying the pain of others (aka "sadism" or "schadenfreude") is morally "bad". I'm not such a person. I think that it it HIGHLY MORAL and RIGHT to delight in the suffering of others when it is they who brought it upon themselves.

The most common way these pigs-waiting-to-be-slaughtered fuck themselves up is that they turn to government and politics to "solve problems" -- believing that these are the "best ways" to solve anything and everything.

"I believe that all government is evil, and that trying to improve it is largely a waste of time."

When the researcher made use of your stay in hospital to do "Laboratory Research" they dump those sky high expenses into your Tax Invoice under the Heading and sub-headings:- Services/investigations/Laboratory: Amt before subsidy----S$63,000
    Amt payable:-------------S$200
    So the Subsidy is-----S$62,800
    better than strike lottery?

Let's ask ourselves, would a change of regime really solve the myriad problems in our society?

Why did the Workers Party said they are not ready to be the government on victory night during the Jan 2013 Punggol East By Election?

What exactly are the root causes of many of the problems manifesting in the society?

If that part is not sorted out, would the city ( country ) be able to build a solid foundation and offer more hope and prospect than the current system?

Wouldn't it be like constructing a building on loose sand?

Rapid economic development may have destroyed much of the required values to anchor a society.

Until the value system of a society is sorted out and anchored with solid foundation, whoever comes into the power structure likely would be confronted with similar issues etc etc.

Before we attempt even anything, we may have to change ourselves.

We have to study why others failed and why some succeeded.

It is not an easy task.

What is gone, mistakes made etc etc is gone and done with. Nonetheless, likely they cannot be easily undone.

Painstaking efforts have to be made to get to the roots of many ills, otherwise the "dying" patient will likely become "even more ill" or "die even faster".

No point complaining or lamenting this and that.

Society is just that. Nothing is perfect and nothing is fair. We just have to contend with what we have and what we are faced with and take definitive and positive actions to improve the society.

Nonetheless, it is far easier said than done.

Whoever attempts to take up the role needs far more than what they think they need ......

This is just a personal opinion. No ill intention and not intended to offend anyone. Just a sincere opinion to offer another perspective from a common folk.

lack of virtue as there are no role model in the Leader ship.
It is not as dire a problem, just that it makes the Society less fitting for human being. It is more like a factory where machines are programmed to run non-stop.

  24. Even the gahmen knows very well that this place is unsubstainable so they introduced horrible, terrible, disastrous policies to spur sinkies to go to a better place that they have invested. They would not have invested so much in other countries if they have faith that this place is better and more substainable. Of cos, they cannot tell you straight in the face that staying here is = death because they have a duty to fulfil.

    ReplyDelete
  25. b has a point. The govt knows that this place will sink and are encouraging the people indirectly to sell out and flee while the going is good. They will keep on pushing property prices to keep it higher and higher to help Sinkies to sell and than migrate to a better place.

Let this place sink is the goal.
