Trust is such a difficult topic to write

I have been trying very hard to write about this new sensitivity. Everyone is talking about trust, including Hsien Loong and how important it is to gain the trust of the people. Now how should I deal with this topic? Shall I talk about the distrust the people have of the govt? Shall I talk about how the govt is losing the trust of the people? Shall I talk about what the govt can do to win back the trust of the people? Or shall I talk about how the govt tried so hard to lose the trust of the people?

After tossing the idea around, I came back to square one. How to talk about trust with people you don’t trust? How to discuss trust with people who are lying to you with a straight face? How to believe in people, trust people when they don’t trust you and are not telling you the truth? How to trust people who are not trustworthy?

I give up. I think it is easier to talk to children about trust. They are so innocent and so trusting. And children don’t lie, and they did not know what is a lie, those that have yet to think and behave like lying adults. I think going to the kindergarten is the best place to talk about trust, trusting children. Unfortunately the children don’t come to my blog so it is a waste of time really, to try to write this thing call trust when trust is all about deception. Trust me only to be cheated, trust me only to be deceived.

How to write about trust when there is no trust, when there is nothing and no one to be trusted?

    One of the things I admire is your ability to put your finger right on the heart of the matter:
    "How to talk about trust with people you don’t trust?"

    If PAP talents don't trust me with my own CPF money;
    Why should I trust them with my future or my children's future?

    If PAP talents don't trust me to differentiate between what is the "right" and "wrong" thing to read;
    Why should I trust them?

    If PAP Ministers trust Gurkha mercenaries to protect their homes rather than Singaporean soldiers;
    What does this tell me about my job prospects as a Singaporean applying for a job in the civil service?

  3. In today's world of declining morality, I think it's wiser to assess situations based on "risks" rather than "trust", then opt for that with the lowest risk, and be prepared for 'what if..?'.

  4. Trust is someone with power will tell the others. It is the deperate who place trust on people who have something to offer and you have nothing to lose. Trust is bullshit. It is a blind fate.

  5. the word TRUST is a BIG word....should not use loosely....

    there are words in life in which we know and understand but NEVER use them....even to our closest partners/relatives......TRUST is one of those words......

    no use of plenty remote sweet talks which produce very little or no results on the ground.......

    singaporeans have grown.......

    they can differentiate between a caring and loving govt from one that don't ......

    fear not fear not fear not, I think singaporeans will SUPPORT the RIGHT govt......

    CHEERS ....CHEERS.... CHEERS .....

  6. The right phrase should be "forced acceptance".

    Whether Sinkies trust or not trust, or whatever lah, they have to accept that PAP is the best available party to be govt. In the Kingdom of the blind, the one eye jack is the best available to be King.

    If Sinkies don't want to accept, there are only 2 choices.

    1. Join the opposition which is also fighting a losing battle, so not much use also.

    2. Emigrate to a better place for a better life.

    If they remain here, it means they are forced to accept, nothing to do with trust anymore.

  7. Smart Sinkies will only trust themselves to make lots of money, here or elsewhere(Choice no 2 in Anon 10:10 am)

    For these smart Sinkies, trust of govt is a non issue.

  8. Smart people can even make money in Timbuktu, if they chose to remain in Timbuktu, never mind if Timbuktu govt is even worse than PAP govt.

    Typical PAPig
    Aung San Suu Kyi wants Myannmar people to go home to rebuid the country.

    PAPigs want Singaporeans to leave so that they can govern Singapore forever.

  10. Anyone who are in the cut throat commercial business will tell you this

    " Trust but always Verify".

    Therefore, trust must always be verified lah. Example, if someone tell you they have a very benevolent rulership (make it sound like and look like real democracy) then the only way for you to know is to make sure you give them a vote to 51%, close to the edge. Then you see how really "kind and benevolent' they really are, tio bo? Don't forget, it has been said "Politics is about power"...They never say Politics is about serving people. So when the power is diminished/diminishing, what kind of patterns will come out, you think? Very mild one is like the COE for internet media regulation. Very serious one is military will come in after freak election. Very strange ones is may not be empty ballot boxes anymore you know...

    I mean, do you see the foreign imports "slowing down" to 5.3m or 4.9m?

    So trust, but must test and be proven first lah.

  11. Trust is a simple word with simple straightforward meaning.
    It is to have faith in the word and deed of a person.
    Obviously one who says one thing and does the Opposite cannot be trusted.
    One who says or promises something and does not delivers should be trusted too.
    One that acts on his/her word to exploit and or manipulate others similarly cannot be trusted. And if one does anything mainly to benefit oneself and gang, how to trust the person?

    Base on the aforesaid; Singaporeans are naturally having little or no trust in the Leaders as they invariably belong to the Definition Above. Full of empty promises and sweet talks, nothing delivered. Not only trust is not possible, there is no faith with their integrities as well.

  12. 'One who says or promises something and does not delivers should be trusted too'.
    Should be corrected to
    'One who says or promises ANYTHING and does not delivers should NOT be trusted too'.

    My sincere apology.

  13. Yes, how to write about trust when there is no trust. Similarly, there is absence of trust if someone out there is talking about trust and trying to rebuild trust lost because of denial of trust given to them years ago....

  14. To me unless there is a change of leadership within pap, it's going to be very difficult to regain trust lost.

  15. 'And children don’t lie,'

    - In reality even children will lie sometimes and so, politicians lie all the time. This is a known fact. But voters like to vote for big time lying politicians again and again. Something that I cannot figure out why yet. Probably a reflection of their own nature.

  16. 'the one eye jack is the best available to be King.'

    - why settle with one when the country can settle with two, three or even four? Every policy making needs to be carefully challenged and debated before it can be rolled out. THis is what this country is lacking.

    - i think emigrating is the best bet and can almost reap the rewards (e.g. house, cars, healthcare, education) instantly.
