This is the title of a very depressing post in the TRE that I recommend Hsien Loong and all his ministers to read. And I would recommend that Hsien Loong throw away the National Day Speech he is working on at the moment and write something with the issues raised in this post. The comments following the article by a lkh are cries of despair and hopelessness, and very resentful of the PAP and the govt. And if more and more people are feeling this way, the PAP is a goner comes 2016.
The issue is about the plight of Sinkie PMETs above 45 years
old, very qualified, very experienced, used to earn 5 figure salaries, but
cannot find employment. To make matter worse, many have growing up children to
feed and some may also have mortgages to service. Many were jobless for years
and have to downgrade to cheaper homes.
What makes them angrier is that the country has jobs for
more than a million foreigners, many of which are less qualified and with a big
number with fake qualifications. A govt that cannot provide jobs for qualified
professionals who are citizens, who are willing to work, who are able, will not
last long, not longer than the next election. The call to ‘Vote Them Out’ is
getting louder.
The problem of the PMETs is a very serious one, a clear and
present crisis, as every PMET has a family and extended family to get to know
of his plight. If the Govt still continues to be yah yah papaya and tiada apa,
and refuses to acknowledge and deal with this problem immediately, the end of
its rule will come much faster than they think.
With a life expectancy of 80 or 90 years, and with good
medical care and good quality of life, many are healthy and can continue to
work till their 70s. And many must continue to work as not many have enough
savings to retire when their nest eggs are eaten up by high inflation. 50 or 60
is the prime of their lives and they should not be cut off from the job market
just like that and be replaced with foreigners.
Is the govt listening? Is Hsien Loong listening? Or would
they bother? Do they really think that the people will vote for them again in
the next GE while they keep ignoring the people’s jobless problem? Do they
think it is ok to send these PMETs to be cleaners and security guards or taxi
drivers or whatever part time agents? Is it just a matter of mismatch that
their skills and experience could find no takers and they need to be retrained
to be cleaners and security guards while the questionable skills and experience
of foreigners could find a few hundred thousand jobs here?
Hsien Loong better makes his National Day Speech counts and
addresses the unemployment of PMETs now while there is still time to make
amends, how to get them decent jobs that befit their qualifications. An easy
task is to freeze all ministries, stats boards and GLC hirings of foreigners
right away and take in all the Sinkie PMETs immediately. No Sinkie can afford
to be unemployed living in this very expensive city.
I urge Hsien Loong and his ministers to read this post in
the TRE and the comments again and again personally. Or is it that they are so
used to such matters that they are no longer sensitive to them, just treat them
like all the patients waiting outside the Emergency units of the hospitals, all
equally ill, desperate and needing immediate medical attention. Just let them
be. There are better things to do, like bringing in more foreigners to replace
the older Sinkies.
The two most important and urgent matter for the govt to
deal with are jobs for jobless PMETs and a home for every Singaporean without
all the silly disqualification rules. Every Singaporean deserves and is
entitled to buy his first flat direct from the govt. This is a social contract
the govt owes to the citizens. With the unbearable high cost of private
housing, not allowing Sinkies to buy from HDB is as good as telling them to move
out, unwanted, Singapore has no place for them.
There is no need to waste the people’s time with a 2 or 3
hour speech that makes the listeners feel good for a moment but not solving the
dire problems of the people. A short half an hour speech with concrete measures
to make the lives of Sinkies better, get them the jobs and the homes, is more
important, useful and welcome than a long and grandiose speech of nothingness.
"The problem of the PMETs is a very serious one, a clear and present crisis..."
ReplyDeleteRB
Then in that case, PAP should have lost its deposit in a by election what. That's what I will consider very serious. What can be more serious to PAP than losing its election deposit, you say lah?
Yet 43%, and I believe many PMETs among them, still voted PAP in the last by election. So I can only deduce that they are happy and satisfied with PAP because WP not ready to be govt is a non issue in a by election, tio bo?
Therefore PAP just need to convince another 17% more in a GE to become a strong govt with a 60% mandate. Just 17% only, cannot meh?
The thing is that those PMETs with serious problems getting jobs suited to their qualifications and experience are a minority.
ReplyDeleteThat's what really matters. To PAP, that is.
Another is that WP, although the strongest opposition party, is not even ready to be govt. And its leader also has no ambition to be PM and even praised PAP as a competent govt. LOL. And again this really matters. To PAP, that is.
Agreed. The keyword is minority.
ReplyDeleteIn any society or even organisation, bad people are also a minority tio bo? Possibly even a negligible minority. God is kind to make it that way.
I think at the end is like woody said net happiness. Currently net Hapiness is 60% therefore the policy is right as it makes 60% happy and only 40% minority unhappy

ReplyDeleteWhats so bad about being a cleaner, security ,taxi driver or part time agent?PMET is just a title. Many Sinkies just think too highly of themselves and exploit their local lower end workers and treat them like FWs, even till today. Many deserve to lose their jobs and become lower end workers.
ReplyDeleteSinkie should be humble.Go get a job and forget about their past.Boh hoo hae mah hor.Not everyday is a sunday.I may be intentionally made poor let or down by the cheng hoo,may be make bankrupt anytime, but I know that no one can keep helping me if I just kpkb daily without looking for job.My Ah Kong told me not to depend on others and stand on my own feet.
He is never wrong.
Supporting PMET will only let them think that they are indispensible.
I oso got national day speech to sinkies.
Work harder.Never say die.
Aiyah, please lah. If there would be a topic for a ND speech it should be : All you embarrassing motherfucking pussies, just STOP It, and Man The Fuck Up!
ReplyDeleteLook at your behaviour and consider the awful role model you're displaying to your children. How the Fuck do you expect them to RESPECT You when you're carrying on like some needy, no responsibility loser?
Buck up, face up and take ANY JOB. We live in the present, not the past. Times are changing, and have changed.
It was all very well for you to accept and use the CHEAP LABOUR OF FOREIGN MAIDS, for decades no less, so you could enjoy high wages and rapid wealth increase, now that the shoe's on the other foot, you cry and scream like spoilt children.
Here are the facts of reality you may have forgotten :
1. No one owes you a damn thing.
2.You are alive, therefore you are responsible for whatever you experience.
3.You are an adult. Time to put on your "big boy pants" and behave like one.
4.You get to choose what and how to spend your money. Employers have EXACTLY the same rights: ie. They can choose whom to hire for whatever reason.
5.The world is not fucked up just because you're experiencing "challenges"
6.No one is guaranteed a job for life any more.
7. Competition is GLOBAL.
8.Singapore and Singapore have never enjoyed such levels of wealth and success as they do, right now. Wake the Fuck up.
Ok Mr LHL. Please feel free to take any of these points to incorporate in your speech. As a military commander your role in leadership is to TOUGHEN THE TROOPS, not "surrender" to their infantile tantrums. :-)
Happy funking awesome HOTEL DAY!
redbean
ReplyDeletecan you please stop alerting pee am lee to the problems in singapore?
we want a regime change in ge 2016.
we want more unhappy sinkies to vote opposition in ge 2016.
it is good that our pee am lee remains out of touch.
his cabinet ministers and grassroots leeders seem to be doing a very good job at this.
why you want to sabo their efforts?
MS and your shit comments again. Go read this tread in TRE. Many of them tried very hard even to downgrade just to get a job, but no interviews, no job. You only come here to talk cock and sing song just like those entitled to be given millions for doing nothing.
ReplyDeleteGive MS a PBM.
Looking forward to my annual fix of 3hour of DRUMS (Distortions, Rumours, Untruths, Misinformation and Smears)
ReplyDeleteI have been jobless since Sep 2010, and I have not complaint.... because there is no need to, Matilah Singapura for all his SHIT talk, is CORRECT 100% this time.
ReplyDeleteFor my friend who is 53 and jobless since Dec 2011, there is no need to worry, start out on your own, you would have a large pool of contacts, you would have many ideas from your younger days that you wanted to do but delayed due to work commitment and work stress and bring up a family. You may have missed out on family time over the years, you may have lost contact with most of your friends.... It time for you to go catch up with them for some networking.
People around 50 has the greatest risk on the job market, however if you bite the bullet and strike out on your own, making a living is not a big problem, I have many friends that are in the same shoe... on top of that, as PMET with 5 figure pay, you can look over your shoulder and see 90% of us behind you... Perhaps you should think of how to help those behind you... there are many SHIT hole that the government has created over the years, and have many of us trapped in them, but there is always a way out of it.
Singapore is still a great place full of opportunities, unless you are trapped in some SHIT hole with BIG Loans and mortgages to service, in that case, you can still off-load... Thus the future is still bright.
Last of my lengthy comment, treasure your jobless time, you will never have it so good before.
I m still jobless, but has created 3 products and conceptualize many ideas for better living in this SHIT place where we will go down the tube if we do not reverse the engine................stay happy and positive.
True. But not everyone is the same, or innovative. Entrepreneurs are small in numbers. Some feel more comfortable to get a job. And why not when hundreds of thousands of jobs were given to foreigners that could have been given to the Sinkies.
ReplyDeleteThe govt needs to look after the Sinkies if they want the votes of the Sinkies to govern. The govt does not owe the foreigners any obligations but a duty to the citizens.
@1020:
ReplyDelete>> Go read this tread in TRE.
You have to be kidding mate. Reading *anything* on the TRE is likely to decrease your IQ by at least 30%, and kill your motivation, as well as admitting you to that popular club of misery called "victimhood".
The TRE is Singapore's most TOXIC website.. However I do not support any censorship. People are free to become stupid and fuck themselves up -- if that is their choice. In that respect, long live the TRE !! (the more stupid people there are, the less competition for the rest of us :-) )
redbean:
>> True. But not everyone is the same, or innovative. Entrepreneurs are small in numbers.
It is not about becoming an entrepreneur, but more about adopting the strategies of entrepreneurship -- ie.e thinking and acting like as if "you own and run your own enterprise"
==>> YOU <<== are your own enterprise -- doesn't matter whether you invent the next iPhone/ Galaxy/ Surface/ Coca Cola or you just work and draw a salary as a kopi kia at your local coffee shop, serving kopi and washing floors and toilets. Every job has worth and dignity.
==>> YOU <<== are your own brand. You carry with you your reputation, skills and experience.
This is how employers these days view potential candidates. They don't want "cry babies", they want REAL men and women who will commit 100% when they are on the job they are VOLUNTARILY CONTRACTED to do.
To say that "not everyone is innovative" is an insult to the human spirit. redbean would rather people oan and groan and wallow in their "fucked circumstances" than see people strive, fail and keep on striving until they succeed.
If you at sometime earned a 5-figure salary, and now have to become a security guard, cab driver or some other "lowly" wage earner, redbean will not hesitate in ascribing you to the "victim" bin -- even though you might be quite OK striving on your own and not require any "help".
One could readily conclude that redbean wants you to fail, cry like a bitch, and give up, so he'll have grist for his mill ;-)
@anon1044:
Best of luck to you! May you succeed outrageously!
"The govt needs to look after the Sinkies if they want the votes of the Sinkies to govern. The govt does not owe the foreigners any obligations but a duty to the citizens." said Chua Chin Leng aka RB at 1205 pm
ReplyDeleteWhat is puzzling is why the PAP Govt not doing what is good for its citizenry to stay relevant. Or are they already doing what is good for the majority of the people to get elected again and again after every election.
The headline in TST today said 6 in 10 here feel they have good jobs in a recent job survey. Of the 501 people surveyed, it was not cleared what % is PR and citizen.
redbean:
ReplyDelete>> The govt does not owe the foreigners any obligations but a duty to the citizens.
The govt doesn't owe anyone anything. Its only function is to UPHOLD THE LAW.
if it is within the law, then that is the govts job. If it is not in the law -- they have no business meddling.
Who an employer hires or fires is not a matter for govt interference. Their only concern is whether foreigners or locals are legally allowed to work, and whether or not that enterprise is legal. for e.g. it is illegal to employ a child in say, illicit drug manufacturing.
I have no problem with any govt which upholds the rule of law.
HOW CAN TRE BE MORE TOXIC THAN FABRICATIONS ABOUT THE PAP AND ITS ILK? At least no one gags when reading TRE.
ReplyDeleteUPHOLD THE LAW = RULE BY RULE, AND FUCK PEOPLE LIKE MATILAH
ReplyDeleteI doubt LHL bothers about what is written or said on TRE or anywhere in cyherspace. The people who provide him with feedback probably does not give him the real picture or what he wants to hear. The PAP only listens to good news, feedback that is pleasing to their ears and words of praise about how well they are doing for Singapore. The bad news and things are just swept under the carpet, as usual.
ReplyDeleteWhat matters to them is what outsiders see on the surface. It is all rosy. They just hide the ugly facts of citizen's plight. How sad!
Make up once mind explore ways to survive, refuse to be exploited by the callous FT flooding ploice.
ReplyDeleteExercise once right to change when it is your turn to do it, and do it without hesitation.
I respect you Redbean - you have the heart of gold.
This person Matilah_Singapura talks like he is the 60% Sinkies with his SHIT talk . As a Singaporeans born and bred-up in this belove little red dot call Singapore , we would not want to be overwhelm by foreigners and or the so-call new citizens who came just a few years ago .
ReplyDeleteMr Chua Chin Leng is right ... our government or any other governments of the world ; needs to look after their citizens first . Yes , our government does not owe the foreigners any obligations , so opening the gate so wide to allow these FTs to come and compete with our PMETS is not right . Moreover , some of these cheap FTs are replacing our citizens due to their advantages point like not having to ask for leaves to go for reservist trainings for the men ; and for the ladies , not having to go for 4 months leaves to give birth to baby .
Having said that , in any country if your very brilliant professional, manager , engineer and technician (PMETS) cannot hold onto their jobs with their qualifications and numerous years of work experiences ... are losing out to the foreigners who are much cheaper to be employ , then something is very wrong in this country .
Agonkia said , what so bad being a cleaner , security guard , taxi driver or part time property agent. PMETS is just a title and they deserve to lose their jobs . No , no , PMETS is not just a title , they are the elites .. a special class of person probably highly educated with diploma , degree , MBA or Phd . The best brains the country can be proud of . They are probably the very early NS servicemen contributing and protecting the country in the early days . The only reason they loses out to the foreign FTs are they are old and highly paid . So is it a crime when you grow old with the company you worked for many years and your salary is higher than the younger employee . Yes , employers have the right to choose who to employ ... But to retrench and replace them with newer cheaper FTs do not command loyalty to your employees . It only remind them that one day they will also be retrench when they reach a certain pay scale .
This is short term and short sighted solution where nobody will benefit in the long run .
The company is not going to be loyal to the employee ... hence likewise the employee wil not contribute to the fullest . Similarly , if the country do not take care of the citizens ; then how can the government of the day expects the citizens to support and vote for them .
Hi AhKong65, welcome to the blog.
ReplyDeleteAllow me to reply to Matilah. He said,'The govt doesn't owe anyone anything. Its only function is to UPHOLD THE LAW.'
Come on Matilah, stop being silly. If the govt is to believe in what you said, I guarantee you they will be voted out in the next GE. I bet they will be telling the people how good and caring they will be and how they will look after the people, and will not dare to say they don't owe the people anything and their job is just to uphold the law.
Please talk some sense will you.
RB,
ReplyDeleteWhile I strongly in favour to curb number of foreign PMET to Singapore. But Singaporeans must understand they are over price for the same job. No business work by patriot propaganda.
We need the govt to look reduce foreign numbers and review all costs, Including cutting to Singaporean' side CPF.
Yes , Mr Chua Chin Leng . Thanks and glad to be in this blog . I cannot help but to rebut Matilah's view and his dirty mouth wordings . Yes , a government must be fair and uphold the law of the country . But they cannot be so fair as to treat Singaporeans and foreigners alike . They is always something difference between your citizens and foreigners (FTs) or some other country's citizens who only come here to earn a living . Just like a parent to their children and somebody else children ..... how can you treat somebody's else children so fair and equal as your own . Do you mean they will have a share of what you have , just like your own sons and daughters when you are no more around .
ReplyDeleteWho will fight and protect Singapore if there is a war or confrontation with another country . Do we expect foreigners to also take up arms to defend Singapore ? I bet my last dollar that these FTs foreigners will be the first to go back to their home countries . Yes , perfectly logical and right for them .
If a country has created more jobs in the economy and yet the unemployment rate for it's citizen went up , it only shows one thing .... all the newly created jobs were taken up by foreigner FTs . That's no good and not going to be healthy for the country . It only means , we are feeding and helping some other countries to solve their unemployment problem .
China and India have millions and millions of unemployment citizens , so are we going to bring them into our beloved Singapore to replace our sons and daughters ( Singaporeans ) just to be fair to the employers and their Companies ?
Please give PAP your feedback in GE 2016.
ReplyDeleteTalk and blog now got no use.
Your feedback in GE 2016 is the only thing that matters.
Matilah must be the fairest man one could ever get to know, albeit only in the Cyberspace.
ReplyDeleteHaving read much of his writings, the impression is that he could be the most impartial person.
He probably is able to treat everybody like his family and his family members as anybody else. That as it might be the case, he is living in his ideal make believe world which he himself knows, does exist.
Matilah is talking in his dreamworld.
When the citizens and PRs are lumped together, it shows that there is something to hide. It also shows that the govt knew what the true data are and how bad is the situation affecting Singaporeans.
ReplyDeleteIt also shows that they don't care and are willing to continue to bring in foreigners at the expense of Singaporeans.
@redbean 932:
ReplyDeleteI agree -- they won't say it, but they darn well know it..and to many "selfish privateers" like myself (and there are many), we darn well know it too.
And so do the foreign investors and immigrants -- they want to know that the cuntree they are taking a punt on is stable because of the rule of law, political stability, and that that the law protects contracts and property rights.
Everyone knows it. No one will utter it.
The PM and his Cabinet Members must have done all their best, this Sinkies must be grateful. Their best is the Result that we see today, 6 in10 feel they have good jobs, Headlined in the
ReplyDeleteStraits Time today.
60% and more of Singaporeans also have confidence in the PAP for nearly 5 decades. The People cannot be wrong for so long.
For those with higher expectation than the 60%(of the Citi0zenry), they maybe having too high an ideal as well as demand on the Sin Government. They had done their best, meaning they have maximized their effort for the People. Luckily for Sinkies, there is still one Minister Lim Sweet Say who can 'bester' his best. Unfortunately, he is the One and only. So, unless he becomes the Next Prime Minister, the Best is already here and cannot be 'betterer'or 'bester'.
Sinkies may like to rally for Lim Sweet Say to be the Next Prime Minister?
@AhKong65.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the attention.
But your best brain, elites, special class of person with mba, degree, phd diploma ,very brilliant professional, manager , engineer and technician (PMETS)are getting rare.
What I notice are many failures who has no leadership and only know how to carry their towkays, kaylengkaysay, show their colour and boss their subordinate or contract workers around like they are towkay.
Chinese saying says,Real gold not scared of water. If one is good ,he will treasured and be preferred over FTs.
Sinkies should not be demoralise and affected by those fake PMETS who are losers .
Happy weekend to you.
@agonkia 839
ReplyDeleteNice knowing you .
I do not know whether you belongs to the PMETS level or otherwise . You seems to dislike them totally and harbors some hatred on them . Yes in any country , the PMETS are the best brains that the country nurture through the educational system and the likes . That is from this pool of people where our government selects their next MP and next minister . And also from this pool of brains that companies select their CEOs ,department directors , senior managers and engineers . Let says if all these positions are fill up by people from other countries ie ; foreign talents ( FTs ) then what is left with our Singapore ?? Are we Singaporean going to work as cleaners , security guards , taxi drivers and part time agents serving our foreign guests .... just like during the colonial times under the British rule . Then can we still be proud of our first world country named Singapore ?
Yes without denial , some of our PMETS may not be up to expectation as they did not live up to their elitism .
You may have come across some boss-carriers and some kaylengkaysay as you said ... but I believe not all are like what you have mentioned . Some are actually the casualty of being an old timer serving many years in the company and getting too highly paid as compared to any new employee ... be it locals or FTs .
Hences , this attitude of just " dollars and cents " on cost is not always the right choice for the company to practice and our government should take some note in this aspect . This is not just a matter of supply and demand It is some underlying understandings between employee and employers .. the bonding of loyalty .
@851:
ReplyDelete>> PMETS is not just a title , they are the elites .. a special class of person probably highly educated with diploma , degree , MBA or Phd . The best brains the country can be proud of .
Wah, my balls are laughing so hard I nearly had a hernia.
The strategy of these "elites" and "best brains" is to go to the TRE and whine like little bitches. Wah, so intelligent ah...wah, with all that "elite" education, this is their best move.
Stunning, really stunning.
@AhKong65:
ReplyDelete>> Let says if all these positions are fill up by people from other countries ie ; foreign talents ( FTs ) then what is left with our Singapore ??
What you deserve thats what. So far I don't see the locals "losing out" to the foreigners as you and your doomsday/ conspiratorial mind would suggest.
I think you need to lighten the fuck up. The sky is not falling lah. Singapore is still an awesome place to be -- even if you are facing challenges. No where else in the world can you find so many resources to "pull yourself up".
BTW, just because you say so, doesn't mean it is in reality. "PMET" is just a term, an abbreviation. If you are perceived as some "value" to the employer, you get the job. If not, you don't. Most rational ADULTS understand this. How come you have trouble? Nevermind. I don't want to know ;-)
@Matilah 1100
ReplyDeleteSo you do not read the news lah ! ... strong job growth by 32,500 in the Q2 and unemployment rate also up ( ST 01/08/13 ) So where does all the newly created jobs go to ??? Only datas of unemployed Singaporeans are taken .... foreigners ( FTs ) not included lah ! There is already a crack in the sky although it is not falling yet . You mean you cannot interpret the sign ? Go see for yourselves at Changi Business Park ... look at all the FTs there . There is an old saying , " if you are not burnt ; you don't feel the pain " . Of course I do not wish that to happen to you .
For me , no trouble at all . I am alive and kicking . I just feel sad for our fellow Singaporeans caught up in this cross-fire policy of free trade ... best men win type .
@Ahkong65
ReplyDeleteDollars and cents may not necessary be the reason for company to replace the PMET with FTs.
FT may not necessary do a better job in the end but to the company, they just have to take the risk,to avoid further lost.
A company here take in a Penang belachian manager and a Medan adorable sweet doctor as spokeswoman to replace local talent. Are they being paid anything lesser? But if they can make the staff morale high and can make the company prosper, securing more support ,why not?
PMETs whether they lose the job to FTs or not, should be encourage to stand up on their own.
Many have chose to work with the company, supported the company all these while so no reason to kpkb when being let down.
They still have a choice to choose a new employer .Work harder.
I experienced and knew it was painful to seek reemployment as a PMET in this unfail competition environment. It is correct for PMET to continuously voice up this issue made know to society while taking initiative, responsibily seeking reemployment. Never trust and expect the policy maker will come to help u, u just hv to survive your self. U must deliver value once u got the job. Stand up to bully expecially the FT.
ReplyDelete@AhKong 1204:
ReplyDeleteYou take one data point in one point in time and you consider this solid enough "proof to validate any suka-suka "hypothesis" your wild imagination can invent.
Please lah, I won't even begin to list the problems with this kind of thinking because it would take too long.
You are trying to "validate" your victimhood. ;-) good luck on that!
I can name several other more productive ways to spend all that time and effort. But I won't :-)
Happy be miserable? Good for you!
