Hsien Loong sees need to develop Singaporean core of finance and banking specialists

Hsien Loong said, ‘there was a need to develop a local core of specialists and leaders in finance. He said that MAS is currently facilitating this move by working with banks and other financial institutions’.

TRE commented, ‘It’s not known how MAS is going to “facilitate” the development of Singaporean specialists and leaders in the finance industry, given that in the financial services sector, banks and institutions, especially the foreign ones, are notorious for discriminating against Singaporeans. Many would prefer to hire their own kinds’.

I say, it’s elementary TRE. Just issue pink ICs to all those specialists that are deemed good and lo behold, we have a local core of specialists and leaders in finance. How did we get our top table tennis players? Our instant tree formula works every time.

See how good our universities are now? We brought in plane loads of foreign professors. Next time we may bring in plane loads of foreign students and we can really make our universities in the mould of Cambridge or Harvard. We can even rebuild, change the architecture of the buildings and their names, the names of the roads also can be changed..

See how wonderful money is, and what money can do?

  1. The goal will be achieved in 2030 and Singaporean will form 30% of the core of finance specialists.

  2. Our Singaporean core used to be 90%. What has happened that we now need to rebuild a Singaporean core? No more Singaporean core? If this is so, it is disastrous. Who caused this?

    I say fuck man!

  6. There was a time when I would believe anything PAP says.

Now, I find it difficult to believe anything they say.
I find myself asking where are all the hidden clauses and left/right pocket sleight-of-hand. Or like AIM's one month early termination clause.

    Now, anything PAP says.
    I ask myself.
    How will it benefit me?

So how will a Singaporean core of finance and banking specialist benefit Singaporeans?
I think I want to see the details before I assume that this policy will benefit me and my fellow Singaporeans.

  8. There are so many experienced Singaporean senior bankers in the past two decades who were shoved aside because of someone's mistaken belief in fallen (foreign) talents.

These local talents are still around, but have to move on to other industries.

What has John Old, Philippe Paillart, Jackson Tai and Richard Stanley done for DBS, other than getting big fat salaries and bonuses and screwing the bank into the ground.

  9. Well.
It's a good thing all these senior, experienced Singaporean bankers are no longer around.
We certainly won't want them to start running for the Singapore presidency would we?

Singaporean means all who set feet here.

  11. Ha ha -- good one. No, I wasn't referring to THAT particular senior banker. BTW, he has also gone on to another industry - a very good one which pays millions for cutting ribbons and kissing babies' bottoms.

  14. Just to be perfectly clear - there are many talented Singaporean ex-bankers. One is already President. Another stood as candidate for President and got more than a quarter of the votes.

Both are Tans - but one of them has to tan koo koo.
