Singapore can benefit from the Taiwan Philippines squabble

After the initial soft and tenderly reaction to the killing of their fisherman by the Filipino pirates in coastguard uniforms, the Ma Ying Jiu Govt has taken a tougher stand and making demands for punitive actions on the killers instead of requesting for apologies. Thanks to the Taiwanese media for reporting on the outrage of the people after years of no govt while the fishermen were easy victims to the Filipino pirates, being arrested, robbed, killed, and having to pay extortion and ransom money for their lives and fishing boats.

The Taiwanese Govt finally stood up and behaved like a nation and not a semi colony of the Americans and took on another semi colony firmly, and rejected outright a half hearted apology from the Philippines. Ma Ying Jiu has imposed a sanction on the employment of Filipino workers in Taiwan. This act may also lead to a similar ban in Hongkong, as Taiwan and Taiwanese are part of bigger China.

With the door closed in Taiwan and Hongkong, Singapore is likely to be the next preferred country for Filipinos looking for jobs. There will be more maids coming here too. Singapore employment agencies can make a beeline to Manila and other Filipino cities to recruit all the maids and PMETs they want, probably at a cheaper price. The Filipino Govt will now hold back on their demands for higher pay for the maids. And Filipino mangoes and bananas can be exported here as well, at cheaper price.

Other than getting more Filipino workers here, Singapore’s dream of hitting the 6.9m population could be achieved much earlier and our gene pool shall improve as well. Singapore has all to gain from this conflict from a business point of view as well as for the future of a bigger Singaporean core.

  1. rb - you are behind time - Liu Thai Ker has stated that Singapore can accommodate 10 million sheeple.

So, open your legs wide and let in the Pinoys. Our Navy also need people - should take in all those gung-ho pilipino pirates.

Jennie Chua will be thrilled to bits - she can open up another 2,000 branches of Jollybee.

  2. Why just restricted ourselve to importing of pinoys? Why can't we think of buying a few unused or unpopulated islands from the land of the pineapple to house our rapidly expanding population?

  3. How about toy boys? And Orchard Tower not big enough, and we need a few more Botanic Gardens.

  4. oldhorse - cannot lah. Let's assume we bought an island big enough for millions of people. How to ship them over? They will be gunned down by the Pinoy pirates long before they reach the island. Unintended deaths.

  5. Very soon, the annehs and pinoys will think that they own this small island (like the sabah episode) and all our reserves that we save up all these years will go to them all thanks to the current incompetent ruling party. People must learn to STOP voting for the pro alien party in the next GE. How can people be so daft in the last GE?

  7. Limbo Singh says:

You will never get rid of the PAP government. They will rule forever. Their gerrymandering and the grc system and new citizens will ensure that the PAP will rule S'pore forever. 40% of opposition votes translated into only 6.9% of the parliamentary seats. Singaporeans and all their descendants are doomed to be under the yoke of the PAP forever.

  9. 'John Jackson 3 hours ago 1 comment Bear in mind too that only a full joint investigation by either Philippines/Taiwan or an investigation by their mutual friend USA, will lead to any real answers.

I have been to Taiwan and Philippines and find both peoples to be warm, friendly and welcoming.

The real fault fault here lies with lame duck Ma who is shamefully using the death of a fisherman to try to boost his popularity within Taiwan. Also with Aquino, who offered an apology where none was justified further exacerabating the issue.

Until a full investigation happens, no apologies or ultimatums should have occured. Shame on both parties.

That is a more mature view from North American anyway....'

This guy posted his comment in Bloomberg on the fisherman killing incident and called it mature!

  10. If and when China gets drawn into the Dispute, the US will end the brawl between Taiwan and the Philippines.
The US will claim that China take advantage of the situation to bully smaller neighbours. Such accusation will arouse the suspicion of Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and maybe even Indonesia. All these countries have claims over the ownerships of the many island/islets in dispute.
And if China ever raise a fist to claim them, It will invite reason for the small nations to ask for US help and intervention.

  11. Taiwanese government is not deaf or blind.Certain action need to be taken after some serious consideration .Taiwanese is fortunate to have President Mah and leaders who are cool and dun act without thinking of the consequence.

Sinkies who support the action should also refrain from using Pinoy maid.
I already sacrifice myself and had stop giving happiness to the Sundays Pinoys at orchard. What has one done besides blaming the Taiwanese Garmen not doing enough and painting a poor picture .

  12. Justice has caught up with the pirates and gangsters of South China Seas. They thought they could go on and on to bully, rob and kill the Taiwanese and Chinese fishermen.

The latest killing has sent outrage across Taiwan and the pinoys are being attacked on the streets, the retail shops are turning them away. They have incurred the wrath of the Taiwanese/Chinese and this could spread to Hongkong and other places.
