Pay more for more benefits
We have heard the impossible, that is, pay more GST to help the poor. Now we are being told that paying more for public transport will benefit the commuters. They will see the benefits later. And after all the increase is only $16 per year.
And I know that I am paying $89 more annually as an oldie instead of $16. I know because I am paying for it. How come they claimed that it was on $16 more per year! I am now paying 34c more daily. No need to use computer or abacus to count how much more I will have to pay.
The only thing to look forward to now is more benefits coming my way. Wondering what that would be. One thing for sure, the base is higher and if any future increases on a percentage basis will be from a bigger base.
It is reported in the paper today that under the old system it was the commuters who needed to transfer that were subsidising those who did not have to. So now it is those who do not need to transfer will be subsidising those who need to transfer. Very fair huh. I posted earlier that those who don't have to transfer will now have to subsidise those needing transfer. So I am wrong huh.

With so much increases going on, I think I am going to draft a nice email to my boys to increase their papa's happy hour allowance.
ReplyDeleteAny input from you guys on how to word this email without sounding too greedy would be appreciated.
As a senior, I used to travel cheaply paying only 69 cents offpeak from East to West. Now it has gone up, so good excuse to ask for a raise.
Hehe, I am looking forward to more increases in other areas so I have an excuse to ask for a raise in the happy hour allowance.
Like anonymous said, pay now or pay more later. Or you can tell them to pay more now and more benefits will come their ways later.
ReplyDeleteIt sent chills down my spine when me read and heard our political lady leaders and commercial female executive(from LTA) spoke in the manners they did.
ReplyDeleteMe thought only cheating husbands and mischievous women do such reasonings. Lately there have been much perverted talks by many people in leadership positions. There is either abnormal faculties or conscience dead problems in them. THIS DOES NOT AUGUR WELL FOR NATION BUILDING.

They tell poor commuters to pay first and wait for benefits later. Why don't wait for benefits to be ready before increases? MRT and buses still making roaring profits every year. Cannot wait mah?
ReplyDeleteHaha, part of the milking process, the OLD and the YOUNG...
ReplyDeleteObserve that the old folks and the young school children are paying more this time round...
The top talents will continue to level the pay field to ensure that we will all be milked equally...
Look out for the rest having to pay more as well.
Why is the govt defending the decisions of transport operators? Why don't they let the transport operators defend their own actions if they are truly private organisations?
ReplyDeleteThe strange thing is that the line is so blur that any booboo by the transport operators will be seen as a booboo of the govt. And taking such a high profile position to defend the operators on a very unpopular decision will take the govt down with it.

Or is it that the transport operators are not up to it to defend themselves even with the fat pay checks? Or is it that this unpopular decision a govt decision and not the transport operators' decision?
redbean, I have a solution: use less transport, which means you save your money and walk more -- which is probably better for you anyway.
ReplyDelete>>I have a solution: use less transport...
ReplyDeleteWow..u think like our old man - he's against unnecessary travels
The oldies should just rock on the rocking chairs. Why should they be travelling around and become a danger to other road users. Now got more reasons with bus and train fares going up.
ReplyDeleteHahaha
ReplyDeleteWhat they actually mean, about seeing the benefits later, is that after a period of time, we will all forget about these increases, and the benefits will be all theirs to keep.
It worked for so many wonderful schemes before, like, GST to help the poor, but actually to help themselves. Privatised hospitals and means testing for better health care, but actually to fatten the bottom line of the healthcare providers and insurers.
Singaporeans have very, very short memories and they know and can always capitalized on that.
In the end, and needless to say again, the party seeing the benefits in the long term will be the transport operators.
Nowadays you will notice that they change first and try to justify their actions after. They care not about public opinion and feedback.
Singaporeans are getting trampled more and more, without even venturing a squeak.
I ain't gonna be rocking on no rocking chair mate.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, increases are an excuse for me to ask for more, more and more.
Use less transport? I have a more brilliant idea. Buy some shares of the transport companies. When they increase, your burden is evened out with higher dividends. Win win for all.
More fatuous explanations coming our way.
