Didn't they attempted to force China to obey, during the Boxer Rebellion, with the eight nations ganging up trying to control China. They tried to split China up just like they succeeded to do so in Africa, giving each White invader concessions to rule, because China was too big for one country to control. The Japanese, the Asia country among the eight nations was so arrogant then, sashaying around like overlords. What was the result?
China is an ancient civilization that refused to crumple in the face of outside attempts to divide the country up and rule. Conquerors like the Mongols and Manchus ended up absorbing the Chinese culture and administrative system. That system is still alive, with leaders going through the rigorous civil service exams (a remnant of the Imperial Examination of the past). Through this process leaders are selected and rising from the bottom and not choosing leaders thru popularity contests, that ended up with wrong leaders like the USA and Europe. Moreover, in the context of the USA, which is an oligarchy, only the very rich can afford to stand for election and being chosen to serve.
China was weakened after the first and second opium war. Weak but not destroyed. Today China is a different country, and it takes more than empty threats to make China obey. The Whites fail to benefit from dictates anymore, not against China, not in Africa and not in South America. The Whites even need to make use of the non-Whites like Japan, India and Philippines to try to create problems for China. Gangsters and Mafia have bravery leveraging on numbers and not when they are alone.
