Apple is tying up with Alibaba in iPhone development in China, with Qwen in the spotlight. Apple is more than aware that Alibaba's Qwen is the next DeepSeek that is going to rattle the USA AI sector.
As if DeepSeek is not enough of a problem for the USA AI titans, Qwen is also an open-source model like DeepSeek and forms the other unseen portion of the iceberg that is going to eat the lunch of the USA AI Titanic.
This is just the beginning, as there are so many Chinese AI developers with names like Tencent and Baidu among its more well-known ones, but not necessarily its top developers. These are no small-time tech minnows swimming in the vast AI ocean. They are competing furiously inside China. If a minnow like DeepSeek can come up with such earth-shattering AI model, do not underestimate what those big fish are doing.
Suffice to say, this is another industry that China is looking to dominate just like EVs, batteries, drones, solar panels, wind turbines, shipbuilding and high-speed rail construction. Failure is not an option in China and success is just a matter of time.

PS. TikTok just delivered its version of AI that is even more powerful than DeepSeek.
Xi is putting all the support behind AI developers in China with his recent meeting with them. The message is clear, the direction charted, and another sector is going to fall into Chinese domination.
ReplyDeleteOf course, China is also not putting in US$500 billion into subsidizing AI development to challenge the USA. That is no longer necessary, with DeepSeek's innovative model that cost just a few million dollars to achieve.
ReplyDeleteJust leaves me wondering about all the narratives that China is subsidizing its manufacturers, when the USA is giving even more in every sector, without achieving the intended result.
How many billion of tax payer money had benn spend by our G/education institution on AI already. Also remember those billions that our G spend on R&D over the last 20yrs, what have it achieved?
ReplyDeleteWhy all of a sudden, the yanks are not interested in TikTok anymore???
ReplyDeleteIf they take Tik Tok, most refugees will become permanent residents or even citizens of Rednote. That is even worse for them.
