Vivian supports UN International Law, not Rules Based Order, in the UN

Dr Balakrishnan stressed that international law and the UN remains important in a fractured and difficult world.

"We need international law, and we really need the United Nations. It is still the only organisation with universal participation, with legitimacy. When decisions are made and consensus is achieved at the UN, it means something," he pointed out in the doorstop interview.

"It sets norms, it sets expectations, it sets international law. So rather than saying, you know, the UN is irrelevant; in fact, we need to double down on the UN. And if things do not work or do not work well enough at the UN, we need to reform the UN, reform the processes and get on with it, and that is why we have had the Summit of the Future."  CNA

This Singapore stand to support international law under the UN instead of American terrorist Rules Based Order, is a great departure from the past. By now Singapore must have got the message that American terrorist Rules Based Order has been abandoned and condemned by the rest of the world, including western countries. Every state is aware that the American Rules Based Order is as good as the Americans setting the rules to their advantage and for the rest of the world to obey, often in violation or contravention of UN's international law. Even the Americans are embarrassed when they spout this nonsensical gangster Rules Based Order which is now better know as Rule of the Outlaw or Lawlessness. Caveat, this is not conclusive, that Singapore has abandoned the American terrorist Rules Based Order as the speech was in the UN and not appropriate to talk about American terrorist Rules Based Order.

As for the relevance of the UN and its usefulness, it is at best in theory. The UN has discredited itself as fair and just, allowing the American, western and Israelis to thrash everything honourable, just and legal that the UN stood for. The Americans are using its solitary veto right to go against the recognition of the Palestine state, blocked all calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza to support the genocide of the Palestinians by the Israelis with full support and participation of the Americans, Brits and Nato forces.

Calling for a doubling down in effort to make the UN relevant is a bit too late. The UN is finished, totally discredited as a meaningful international organisation. BRICS and its supporters, mainly the Global South are totally disillusioned with the UN and are leaving. It is like saying BRICS is good after having fouled up with following the Americans to sanction Russia, now knowing it has missed the boat and would not be accepted into BRICS. Singapore would end up being the only state in Asean that would not be in BRICS.

BRICS and the Global South have given up on the UN. They are not going to call for a reform but a walkout. The UN would become the United Nation for America and its colonies and cronies, ie mainly European states and maybe Japan and South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

Calling for a reform of the UN at this junction is like closing the door after the horse had bolted. Singapore is going to regret alone, for making several faux pas in support of the Americans against Russia and the Global South. The road back is not going to be easy. The best thing for Singapore to do now is to shut up, hide under the bed, not to be seen again.

  1. Very "principled" Bala talk cock only, very quick to sanction Russia but dare not impose sanctions on Israel for the infringement on Lebanon's sovereignty and security, and massacre of innocent civilians

  2. Little red dot is now banned from BRICS and is now on Russia's list of enemy nations thanks to some wise idiots. Sadly, LKY era is long gone . . .

  3. When Lee Kuan Yew talks people more or less listen as he commands international respect whether East or West. Also Lee Kuan Yew's cabinet of ministers are all of his calibre for example like DR Goh Keng Swee, Mr Rajaratnam, Dr Toh Chin Chye and Hon Sui Xian just to name a few. Where is the standing of our present politiciians - no comparison but just pale in significance . Just a silly remark to support the barbaric warmongering rogue state US against Russia in the Ukraine war engulf the anger of Russia and all countries of the South. Now Russia and China have stated that Singapore is not allowed to join as a member of BRICS . Singapore will have to swim in the wilderness of international politics and face an uncertain future. It is no good for Singaporeans when their so-called leaders say things without proactive thinking. It's time for Singaore politicians to retrospect and amend their behaviour especially on international affairs. Singapore is so small not bigger than the size of nose snort and so it should know its place and not opening its mouth freely to offend other countries unnecessarily. The best thing is to shut up and not be a smart Alax.

  4. Singapore is ensnared in the USA trap. It cannot extricate itself. As much as the world hates the USA, Singapore as a supporter of the USA will always be looked upon as different from within ASEAN going forward. We took the wrong turn, and we have to live with it.

  5. Was it the same smart Bala and the Law Minister Shanmugam or what who came out shouting for open support to US and its savage NATO's allies aggression against Ukraine though no doubt with arm twisting by the US and yet falsely blamed Russia for the Ukraine War. Singapore is the only ASEAN country that succumed to US threat to sanction Russia economically and politically. So, now what, it has become a pariah state among ASEAN countries. Russia and China have made it clear that Singapore like any other country that sanctioned Russia illogically and illegally will not be allowed to join BRICS organisation. The future of the world is with BRICS. Singapore now stands out like a sore thumb in Southeast Asia. On the other hand Malaysia's Prime Minister Annuar Ibrahim together with the Malaysia king recently received a red carpet welcome in Beijing, China. Earlier Annuar Ibrahim also received a very warm welcome in Moscow, Russia. What a change of scenario for Singapore vis-a-vis Malaysia and other ASEAN members. Unless Singapore's politicians are smarter the red dot will be a gone case in its future outlook.

  6. There are indications that Forest City may yet be given freedom to go ahead. Obviously there are talks with China ongoing.
