Singapore's balloon blowing feat will lead to desperation

SINGAPORE: While Singapore has not made a decision on nuclear energy, efforts are underway to better understand the technology and its implications, authorities said on Thursday (Mar 21)....

"Any decision to deploy new energies requires consideration and demonstration of its safety, reliability, affordability and environmental sustainability," said the spokesperson.

Currently, about 95 per cent of Singapore’s electricity is generated from natural gas, in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Indonesia and Malaysia.  CNA

Above is a peep into the ambition to build a 10m or 20m city state. The mindset behind the one trick pony is that Singapore must have uninhibited growth at all cost. And the easiest way to achieve growth is to pump in more people into the island to increase consumption of everything. And Singapore has everything, plenty of land, unlimited supply of energy, water and resources. So, planning for a 10m or 20m population is a piece of cake. Singapore has planners par excellence and nothing can stop Singapore from going the 10m or 20m road. Without increasing population, there is no way to maintain economic growth of 1 or 2% annually. Running out of ideas?

Nuclear energy has never go away. With fossil fuel prices going up, it would be unsustainable or too costly to support a 10m or 20m population in the future. Nuclear energy is always the clever solution. What Fukushima? If an accident happens, just migrate. The solution is so simple. Or just resettle the population 100km from the island. Singapore is such a big country.

In the meantime, just keep blowing the balloon, it would never burst. Just hope there will be a solution to this self inflicted steriod problem.

Is pumping up the population unavoidable? Or is Singapore's reason for existence is to bring in more foreigners to populate this piece or rock? The problems in the future is created now, right here in front of our eyes. And the people creating them would not be around to answer for their crazy and irresponsible acts. Just kick the can further down the road, just keep bringing in more foreigners, keep building more housing to house them. They are the basic pieces of Singapore's growing prosperity. You want growth, you have no choice. The only blessing is that all of us alive today would not be around to feel the pain of today's wild and reckless population expansion schemes.

Would anyone be brave enough to call a stop to this irresponsible population expansion scam by importing more foreigners for a miserable 1% of GDP growth but with very serious adverse consequences in the future? To stop the need for desperate measures in the future and telling the people we have no choice, the choice is now.

The pioneering generations planted trees to benefit us. Are we digging the graves for our future generations?

  3. Looks like they have to get rid of Pritam Singh by hook or by crook before the next election.

By the way, is TCB still being paid his retirement pension by the PAP after a certain number of years serving the party? He was a PAP MP for quite a while, from 1980 to 2011. If TCB is still getting his PAP pension, I doubt there is much he can bring to the opposition. The leash is still helpful for the PAP to rein him in.

  5. What goes up never comes down. That 2% GST increase over two years has done so much damage and taken advantage of by so many hawkers and food outlets.

I think hawkers and food outlets would love to have GST increases every year. Suffice to say, these hawkers and food outlets would love it if the Government were to increase say, 1% GST to be spread out over three or four years. That way, they can increase their food prices three or four times, instead of only twice like the 2% over two years this time around.
