Chinese
Foreign Minister Wang Yi has blamed the rapidly worsening conflict in
the Middle East on a lack of justice for the Palestinian people, days
after the militant group Hamas carried out a deadly assault on Israeli
territory.
"The crux of the issue lies in the fact that justice
has not been done to the Palestinian people," Beijing's top diplomat
said in a phone call with Brazil's Celso Amorim, a former foreign
minister and now a special adviser to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio
Lula da Silva. A statement on the call was released by Wang's ministry.
The
call came just ahead of an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security
Council on Friday to discuss the Israel-Hamas war. Brazil, a
nonpermanent member, is chairing the council this month.
Wang
urged all parties in the Middle East to exercise restraint to prevent
further escalation. He added that the United Nations has a
responsibility and duty to play a role in the Palestinian issue, and
China is ready to cooperate closely with various parties, including
Brazil.
Amid an outpouring of Western support for Israel after
Hamas' weekend onslaught killed over 1,300 people, Beijing has
maintained a relatively neutral position, lamenting civilian casualties
but not condemning Hamas. Soon after the initial attack, it called for
an immediate cease-fire and repeated its support for a two-state
solution that would create an independent Palestinian homeland.
But the comment by Wang on how China sees the root cause of the problem appeared to mark a hardening of its stance amid heavy Israeli airstrikes on Gaza and talk of a possible ground operation to dislodge Hamas, which controls the strip.
Earlier
this year, China positioned itself as a potential mediator between
Israel and the Palestinians, as it seeks to become a more influential
player in the region.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang
Wenbin on Thursday told reporters that "the Palestinian-Israeli conflict
keeps repeating for a fundamental reason: The Middle East peace process
has been off the right track, the foundation of the two-state solution
has been continuously eroded, and relevant U.N. resolutions are not
followed through in good faith."

If you are Useless Nonsensical Obsolete , what can you do?
ReplyDeleteChina will never be able to broker a peace deal between Israel and Palestine, even if it tries. Not when the USA is behind the scene supporting Israel and that is why it will never happen. And the USA will never give China the initiative to do that. That would mean a loss of face again.
ReplyDeleteThe deal between Iran and Saudi Arabia was able to be carried out because Saudi Arabia was then getting tired of the USA trying to force Mohammed bin Salman into compliance like his father, pandering to the USA's dictate. The peace deal was brokered by keeping out the USA from the room during the negotiations. This young man has a mind of his own, and knows the kingdom had, all over the decades, been taking care of the USA's interest in the Middle East by pricing oil in US$.
That support by OPEC in pricing oil in US$ was MBS bargaining chip in the face of Joe Biden's slight by calling him a 'pariah'. Being called a 'pariah' was a really degoratory insult which MBS clearly was hurt very deeply. The consequence threatened against him was never put into gear, so far, as the US$ hegemony hangs in his hands with the Saudis as the leader of OPEC. Even in the face of repeated cutbacks in oil production, against the dictates of the USA, those actions shows the determination of MBS to cross swords with the USA.
When Saudi Arabia and Iran were enemies, we could perhaps surmise that the Arabs would not support the Muslims in the Middle East. But now for the USA and Israel to play that card is no longer feasible, with Iran and Saudi Arabia no longer in conflict. Just like trying to create tensions between China and Russia amid the Ukraine War, which did not materialise. It is heaven's will that Iran and Saudi Arabia are no longer in conflict. And it is all thanks to the USA pushing Saudi Arabia in the wrong direction as it did with Russia.
China’s Foreign Minister Condemns Israel’s Call for Gaza Residents to Flee
ReplyDeleteChinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi criticized Israel’s response to this month’s surprise assault by Hamas.
In a Saturday call with Prince Faisal bin Farhan, his Saudi Arabia counterpart, Wang said that Israel’s call for civilians in northern Gaza to leave for their own safety had “gone beyond the scope of self-defense,” according to a readout released on Sunday by China’s Foreign Ministry.
“Israel should earnestly listen to the calls of the international community and the United Nations secretary-general and stop imposing collective punishment on the people of Gaza,” Wang said, according to the readout, reiterating China’s longstanding call for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine crisis.
China said Israel acting beyond scope of self defence.
