Tharman for President

Tharman finally made his move, probably the most important move in his life, as a candidate for the President of Singapore. This is good in many ways for Singapore and also likely to be a no contest. With Tharman's popularity, I don't see any candidate would think he is good enough to beat Tharman, so better don't waste time contesting, and save some money as well.

Talking about saving money, if Tharman becomes the next President, Singapore would also save a lot of money as Tharman would not be the Dep PM and also has to drop many of the posts he is holding. He can't be collecting the President's salary, which is many times more than the President of the USA, PM of UK, President of France and Chancellor of Germany combined and be collecting other salaries at the same thing.

I think many Singaporeans would be rooting for Tharman to be the President since he openly declined to be the next PM. Singapore may not be ready for an Indian PM, but an Indian President would be no issue.

As I said earlier, this Presidential Election is likely to be a walkover, no fault of Tharman or the system. He would walk into the Istana by default. I can't see anyone that could stand close to him to stand a chance to win against Tharman.

When Tharman moves into the Istana, the 3 biggest colonial built properties in Singapore would be occupied by Tharman, Shamugam and Vivian Balakrishnan. This is like scoring a hattrick, a once in a 50 years or 500 years phenomenon. The black and white colonial bungalows are like being specially built and waiting for this to happen.

This is a great moment for Singapore. The picture would be complete if the PM is also an Indian and moves in to occupy the Command House that Ong Teng Cheong once stayed in.  That would be really something to see. This is something that could happen and become another Singapore miracle.

If this would to become a reality, the most popular nursery rhyme in Singapore would be the 'Ten little Indian boys'. This nursery rhyme suddenly pops up in my mind. Nice.

Tharman as the President is as good as a done deal.

  1. Yes, Tharman as the Singapore President is a done deal. It goes without saying.

However, whether Shamugam and Balakrishnan would stay together with him in the Istana is not likely.it that is so, there will be tons of gossips in Singapore.

    1. Too afraid an Independent One will ask for all accounts and all info of all Funds and what's not and they have to concort that it will takr another 152 years to finalise all accounts.

So better be safe to have own kaki to safeguard all lockers.

By time, why worry time for many to see to "See Thein" i.e.Eastern Skies to really answer for their own life's accounts for Heavans or Hell.

  5. It has all been choreographed. Are we not familiar with this kind of SG drama. The script like "Tharman will exercise President's duties 'scrupulously' and with 'independence of mind' if elected... " from Mai Hum. The whole thing is a farce to entertain the unthinking sheeple and serve their narrative.

  8. His main (and most important?) role is to be a "unifying figure" for Singapore. As so many of the residents here are from India and are not integrating well with the locals, he is well suited for the role. Planeloads of CECA Indians can still come in and the social fabric will not tear as we have a "unifying figure" to see that it does not. Safekeeping of second key, approving key public appointments, etc are just on paper and for show only.

  9. I hope there's no need for an election so can save some money for the country.
The first question that came to my mind was, can the man be independent? He has been part of the government for decades, can he act for the interests of the citizenry rather than the government.

I believe that his loyalty should be to Singapore and not any political party; if can't do that, then might as well abolish the presidency and save some millions for the country every year.

  10. The "dishonourable son" made it easier for himself with his appointment of Halimah as president, i.e. from useless speaker of parliament to useless president working for the Pap buggers.
I am inclined to think having Tharman as president is to ensure Lawrence Wong does not have a free hand if the "dishonourable son" decides to let him be the seat warmer.
Tharman as president can also mean ensuring no lost of confidence in Red dot in the event of adverse economic scenario worldwide.

    - hopefully Tharman chooses to serve ordinary singkies and live up to the respect they have for him.

  11. Tharman likely to be braver and stronger than Ong Teng Cheong. He would not take 500 man years for an answer.

  12. Needing a President to hold a second key is a joke. If Ong Teng Cheong holding a second key can be removed for asking pertinent questions, does that not tell us anything? Wake up!

  13. All the Tans no chance second time around. Sorry, reserved for Indians again. LHY also no hope, even if he can return, which he obviously would not. They make sure of that.

This time, no contest again. Actually a waste of time holding election. Just appoint one would be more convenient, instead of putting on a kangaroo show.

I believe we did better with appointed Presidents like Yusof Ishak, Benjamin Sheares and Wee Kim Wee. They really were able to unite the country without much political leanings. Now, all aspirants, past and present, came from members of the same politically connected family. Hell, even the Trade Unions have been doing that for ages, without anyone taking notice.
