Zelensky bankrupting Ukraine, why?

Why on earth would someone be so ready to bankrupt a country, like Ukraine? There is absolutely nothing to gain in a war like this, a war that Ukraine cannot win against a bigger country, a nuclear power. The Americans would not dare to fight Russia openly, and definitely not any of the European country. A caveat, there would be a few lunatics that think it is ok to go to war with Russia.

Because of the fear of an uncontrolled and menacing nuclear war between Russia and the USA, the Americans took measures to control and limit the scale of this war, to be localised only inside Ukraine boundaries, never allowed to breach the borders of Russia. It would just be like Syria, both sides fighting with one hand tied behind their backs. Under this self imposed restraint, the war in Ukraine would always be in Ukraine till kingdom comes. The Americans are happy with that. The Russians can live with that.

In the meantime, the Ukrainians would just keep dying or run away from Ukraine. And Zelensky will keep on shouting and fighting this war with his mouth. More aids, more aids and more aids. Why? The aids are not for free. Whatever that were sent to Ukraine must be paid back someday. would Zelensky care?

He lives for the moment, enriching himself the best he could. He is not going to pay back the hundreds of billions of debt incurred in the war. He would be gone when the situation turns. The debt would be shouldered by the Ukrainians if there is still a state called Ukraine. If Ukraine is broken up, all the debt would be vaporised in thin air. The Americans and Europeans hoping for their payback can only hope till eternity as there would be no one, no country to pay them. Even if Ukraine still exists, the new govt would be in no position to pay back and at best could drag on till eternity.

The immediate beneficiary, the Military Industrial Complex would be happy to charge the US govt for the weapons they provided and sent to Ukraine. Ultimately the American public presumably would be responsible. But the debt would be just on paper, to be added to the trillions of debt owed by the US govt.

No one would be responsible for this debt as the creator and conspirators to this debt woud be long gone, disappeared. Zelensky, if he survived the persecution, would retire in some corner of the earth, enjoying his loot from Ukraine.

    Hi Uncle Chua,

Relative to the world, Sg is too small and basically a price taker.

In Economics, this implies that whether pants are lost is dependent on external factors (than domestic).

Take for example the recent days collapse of FTX, a major Cryptocurrencies exchange. The founder Sam Bankman-Fried was estimated to be worth around US$22 billion in 2021. However, with the bankruptcy filing last Fri, some global investors have written off their investment (to zero). Technically, the founder may have lost "everything" including his "shirts, pants, and oops... possibly his underwear" too (metaphorically speaking)?

Many Mr Gloom have in recent years, months, weeks and days predicted a looming crisis that could wipe out massive wealth of investors...

But does it make many people any wiser?

The problem is after reading or listening to all these Mr Gloom, many might have no idea what have they learned that is beneficial to safeguard their well-being?

How many can pinpoint the exact determinant(s), when and how to circumvent the next crisis (if any)?

This is where the understanding of Economics comes in handy and not at the "mercy" of others "selectively" choosing to tell you partially, the opposite of what they should tell you, or worst the very path to wealth destruction which you are seeking to avoid (at all costs)?

During the 2008/09 GFC, many went bust (including Lehman Brothers).

However, every crisis from the 70s in the last century to the 21st century is different in some or many ways?

Sg leveraged on almost every crisis, if not all and emerged stronger. In the current COVID-19 pandemic crisis, Sg overtook HK and emerged as the number 3 global financial centre, after NY and London.

Knowing the Economics of the next crisis, the threats and opportunities (SWOT) should help one navigate safely and emerged stronger (aka wealthier)?

Economics is not rocket science and not too difficult to learn. Alternatively, one can look for a "sifu" or mentor who is willing to impart the Economic knowledge applicable to the real world and not some hollow theories that would only waste your time, money, efforts, energy, confidence etc.

Ultimately, external or global factors are those that are likely to make investors or the men in the street lose his shirts or even pants... etc?

    Cheers,
    Leo 81

  2. FTX failure and filing for bankruptcy. Some people are losing their underwear.

US$1 billion is missing and it is facing a shortfall of US$8 billion. Looking at the guy running the show, how could people trust him is a mystery.

  3. The EU wants China to influence Russia to respect International Law. Why must China follow their dictate and try to educate Russia about respecting International Law, when this is obviously again an attempt to split the Russia/China alliance. As soon as China takes up the issue, the MSM of the West will start sowing malicious lies that Russia and China are splitting apart. China knows what is on the agenda of the evil Anglo Saxon Whites.

Now, what about the EU using it's own influence to tell the USA to respect International Law by withdrawing from Iraq? That was an illegal war, conjured out of fabricated evidence and lies. It is a total outrageous violiation of International Law. And they are still occupying Iraq after almost 20 long years and continue to steal the oil. Is it because the UN legalised it after being lied to and had to give their rubber stamp of approval? As they say, two wrongs does not make a right.

How about telling the USA to respect International Law by returning the USA to the Native American Indians? The whole continent of North America belongs to the Native American Indians. The Anglo Saxon Whites came from Europe and stole the land from the Natives using religion to trick them.

Or how about the EU itself show some respect for International Law, by telling Nato, of which most countries in the EU are in, to abide by the agreement reached between Mikhail Gorbachev and Nato, not to expand Nato eastward after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 2014. Yet, today, they are enticing Ukraine to join Nato, which Russia is saying is the red line that Ukraine should not cross.

And in order to fulfill their agenda, they instigated the war in Ukraine to jump start the entry of Ukraine into Nato. They continued to attack Russian speaking residents in the Donbas region by ignoring the Minsk Agreement reached in 2014, resulting in Putin stepping in to liberate the region from genocide.

They then accused Russia of invasion of Ukraine, imposed heavy sanctions on Russia, trying to undermine the Russian economy and it's currency, the Ruble. Russia did not collapse as anticipated by the demented one, and the consequence of Russia reverse sanctioning Europe by cutting off energy caused much damage to the EU, sending EU countries tottering, which will be getting worse going forward, with Europe under the fatal mistaken belief that Russia is going to pay dearly. Tell me, isn't being a friend of the USA a fatal mistake?

  4. Zelenskyy shall kaput soon, no escape.
Ukraine is destroyed in his hands and the Ukraine People shall remember this part in history for posterity. So will be other countries that collapsed because of tyrannical despots. Shame on them.

  5. Hi Leo81,

What you said are applicable and relevant to people with millions in their bank accounts. For many Singaporeans living from pay check to pay check, the big picture is meaningless to them. They don't even have enough savings to last 3 months, some nothing at all.

The immediate concerns are cost of living, how much it cost for 3 meals, how much for transportation.

And many would be concerned about the hundreds of thousands for a public flat or $100k for a COE or $13k COE for a bike.

And getting a decent job but ended up underemployed or unemployed and seeing hundreds of good jobs taken over by foreigners.

These are the real stuff that hurt the people immediately and directly.

The situation is so painful that no amount of political rhetoric and lies can tell the people otherwise, that all is well and good.

  6. Is Russian losing the war and withdrawing from Kherson? The Ukrainians are celebrating, calling it a victory. When the war first started, Russia surrounded Kyiv on the pretext of an assault, but instead focused their attention on their real target which is to liberate the Donbas region.

In doing so, those Russian troops surrounding Kyiv served the important purpose of preventing the Ukrainians from reinforcing and supplying their troops fighting in the Donbas region. Russia was able to take control of the Donbas region using this diversion.

When Russia finally withdrew troops from surrounding areas around Kyiv, it was touted as a victory for Ukraine and that Russia was fleeing. Nothing is further from the truth.

According to sources, the withdrawal of Russian troops from Kherson is a tactical move by Putin for something else bigger. Why is Russia withdrawing from Kherson after calling up another 300,000 troops? Many believe that Kyiv is now the target and that 40,000 Russian troops, now in Belarus, is preparing to enter the war from the North. Kherson may just be a diversion that Ukraine may fall into again.

Another point to note is the question of why is the USA and the West now coercing Zelenskyy to talk to Putin? Isn't that strange when the war could have been stopped in March/April, after an agreement between Zelenskyy and Putin had been reached, but sabotaged by the UK and USA?
