SEA Games - Gold standard

This chart is posted in TRE by Mohamad Rasul Mohamed.

When is LKY going jump up from his grave? In his time, this kind of things would never be allowed to happen. And if it did, heads would roll. Working with him, every comma and full stop must be in its right place. That was the gold standard of LKY.

We are now in May 2022.

This is gold. How low can we go?

I remember someone once said, what is acceptable? 99% good enough? In third world countries, 90% would be excellent. In the production of media, if 99% is good enough, it would mean that for every 100 words, there will be 1 mistake. Count how many hundred of thousands of words in a daily newspaper, how many thousand mistake would be there?

  1. Temasek’s China investments continue to suffer while new bets on chip makers TSMC, Nvidia unrewarded

Holdings in about 10 Chinese companies suffered US$532 million erosion in value during the first quarter, according to its 13F filing on late Monday

  2. It looks like whatever Temasick touches, its probability of making a kill-shot is almost ZERO, if not minus.

However, if you are the professionally luck ones, you might be faring in the negatives.

Anyway, whatever that have been invested (with other people's money, of course) it will take at least 10 to 30 years to realise the results. So, whoever blundered in the investments, do not matter much, because at the end of the day, it is still "Pay Correct, Sir!" And nobody is the wiser?

  3. Hi Redbean, The list of countries and the flags adjacent to them was a deliberate jumble. It was meant to be a quiz for the readers to assemble the right flags against the countries. CNA and all the editors are clever and educated people so one must not think that a glaring mistake like this can go to print. CNA is a world class news media, so this kind of misstake cannot be an oversight, must be deliberate.

  4. A few hundred mistakes here & there no big deal lah. Sinkies are earning higher salaries than ever before. The most expensive house prices in the history of S'pore also so many Sinkies rushing to buy. Car prices shoot up thru the roof also all sold out. Focusing on a bunch of flags on TV is like focusing on the minority losers in Singapore ... who cares?!?

    1. I think your assumptions are far from the truth. The facts are that in Singapore, the Majority are the losers. Not minority losers.

  6. In an autocracy, the majority view is irrelevant. Only principles are relevant. However, the principles are flexible depending on the autocrat.
