Double standards - countries had not driven the US out of the UN human rights body when it bombed civilians in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan
After the vote pushed by the US at the UN General Assembly decided to suspend Russia from the UN Human Rights Council, some member states expressed opposition to the hasty move which forced countries to take sides before knowing the full story.
The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on Thursday calling for Russia to be suspended from the Human Rights Council. In the 193-member Assembly, 93 countries voted in favor, 24 against, and 58 abstained. Russia, China, Iran and Vietnam were among those who voted against. Those who abstained include India, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico, Pakistan and Singapore.
The vote sets a dangerous precedent on that a resolution without solid investigation can be brought to the UN where member states are then abducted by political ideology and forced to choose sides.
According to the UN release, the resolution was brought to the Assembly after a flurry of disturbing photos of the "Bucha incident." Ukraine accused Russian military forces of killing a large number of civilians during the occupation of the city of Bucha, located in the western suburbs of Kiev. Russia categorically denied it and presented the UN Security Council with empirical evidence of the Ukrainian side's video falsification and other fakes.
After the UN posted the tally on its Twitter account, it's noted that even under great pressure from the US and the West, the total number of those who voted against and abstained was still close to those who voted in favor. The accusations against Russia on the "Bucha incident" have yet to be proved, while the irrefutable atrocities conducted by Ukraine forces against Russian POWs were caught on camera.
The UN's role to unite the world is on the ebb as it was silent on the US-led chaos in Libya, Tunisia, Iran, Syria, Yemen and Afghanistan. The West's hurriedly subscription to the US-pushed resolution against Russia at the UN denies rules-based international values.- Anonymous
Note that of the 93 countries voted in favor, one was by Myanmar's UN ambassador who is actually representing the country's previous civilian government at the world body, and not the current ruling Myanmar's military which is always in favor of Russia.
ReplyDeleteTo get a sense of the spread and saliency of Russian disinformation in Southeast Asia, this article tracked two of Russia’s key disinformation narratives amongst English language tweets in two countries – Singapore and the Philippines – where English is spoken widely.
ReplyDeleteIt should also be noted that both countries (together with Indonesia and Brunei) were particularly strong in their condemnation of the invasion compared to their ASEAN counterparts. Singapore, in particular, also effected financial sanctions and export controls on Russia. This could have caused them to be targets in an information campaign, whether they are officially sanctioned or not. CNA
How true or how fake is this statement in CNA? Did the Philippines, Indonesia and Brunei condemned the Russian invasion, 'strong' condemnation?
Everyone knows that in the whole of Asean, Singapore is the only Asean state that condemned the invasion and also sanctioned Russia. In the last voting in the UN, not a single Asean state support the motion to remove Russia from the Human Rights Council. What did it say?
The UN will become irrelevant after this two frivolous event - the vote on the Bucha issue without proper investigation and the vote to throw out the Russians from the UN Human Rights Council.
ReplyDeleteThe UN has clearly and shamelessly been hijacked by the USA, putting it's rubber stamp on the guilty verdicts hurriedly, all to prevent the hearing of the Russian side of the story. That, by the way is what they would call their 'Rule of Law' replacing the UN International Law. More injustice will come out of the UN and the world better wake up.
Trying to undermine the stand of the Indonesians when it is not true may be unwise. Globally, I have yet to come across the narrative that Indonesia strongly condemned the invasion of Ukraine. Anyway, I do not read the MSM, so I am uninformed. Better than being misinformed.
ReplyDeleteSekali Indonesia demands an apology for disinformation.
ReplyDeleteIsraeli soldiers killing unarmed 48-year-old Palestinian mother of six
ReplyDeleteWhy MUST the Israeli soldiers kill an unarmed 48-year old Palestinian MOTHER of Six?
ReplyDeleteIs it because of collateral damage?
Is it because of vengeance?
Or, is it outright violence?
Either way, each and every occurrence is wrong. Totally wrong!
