Ukraine - American hypocrisy about war crimes

However, as Omar pointed out, even as Washington tries to lead efforts to gather evidence that may be submitted to the ICC and the International Court of Justice, it still hasn’t joined the ranks of nations that are subject to the ICC’s jurisdiction. The treaty-based court was formed under the Rome Statute of 1998, but the US opted against making its military forces subject to the ICC’s jurisdiction. In fact, Washington imposed sanctions against the ICC in 2020 because the court was probing alleged war crimes by US forces in Afghanistan.

“It would be staggeringly hypocritical to support an investigation into Russia while opposing the court’s very existence as a non-member,” Omar told Business Insider. She introduced a bill on Thursday to join the court, saying the best way to support an investigation of Russia would be to join the international body that will carry out the probe. RT

How much more hypocritical can one get, for the Americans to accuse the Russians of war crimes in Ukraine when they opposed the ICC for wanting to investigate American war crimes in Iraq? The Americans even threatened the judges of ICC for wanting to launch an investigation against the Americans.

And how silly the ICC has been made to be, to allow a non member, the Americans refused to be a member of ICC, meaning it does not recognise the ICC, does not respect the power of the ICC, to lead an investigation against a member of the ICC? can you believe this, rule of law? The Americans are virtually telling the ICC that they are above the rule of law, that they can dictate and order the ICC to do its bidding while not being a member of the ICC.

The parallel to this is the UNCLOS. The Americans refused to be a signatory of the UNCLOS but have been demanding countries to be governed by the rules of UNCLOS. The Americans did not respect the rules of UNCLOS, did not want to be bound by the rules of UNCLOS but want the rest of the world to be governed by UNCLOS.

Why would ICC obediently accept the allegations of the Americans against the Russians and immediately launched an investigation but allowed the Americans to kick it around and dare not conduct an investigation against the blatant violations of human rights and war crimes in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria?

Is the ICC a joke? Where is the credibility and integrity of the ICC?

  2. From GT

"Liz Truss, UK Foreign Secretary, delivered what the Financial Times described as a "hawkish set-piece" speech at a banquet in London on Wednesday. Her target was China. She said "NATO must have a global outlook," and "needs to preempt threats in the Indo-Pacific." Then she bluntly pointed out that they "must ensure that democracies like Taiwan are able to defend themselves." It's fair to say that Truss' remarks are the most blatant and ambitious statements among those made by US and Western politicians for a while about "the globalization of NATO."

It's reported that Truss' remarks came as NATO members were discussing the bloc's new "strategic concept." There is a fierce debate among NATO countries over how much emphasis should be placed on the "security threat" posed by China in the Indo-Pacific region. On the same day, the US Indo-Pacific Commander said that NATO is a "pretty good model" for the Indo-Pacific region, for those nations that value freedom. People have become very familiar with such pattern of the US and the UK echoing each other.

Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, some politicians in the US and the West have been constantly distorting facts, deliberately linking the Russia-Ukraine conflict to the Taiwan question in an attempt to play the "Taiwan card" to contain China. Truss took advantage of the Ukraine crisis to hype the "China threat" as early as before the conflict broke out. She "warned" that China could use the Russia-Ukraine conflict as an opportunity to launch aggression of its own in the Indo-Pacific. Even former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating harshly criticized her as being "demented" and suffering "illusions of grandeur."

The above message spoken by Lis Truss, the UK Foreign Secretary, an opportunistic non-Brexit entity trying to make use of NATO to attack China in a circuitous manner so that the UK and USA can absolve themselves of any consequences. This cunning, slimy and extremely unethical move by this person who is aiming to take over from PM Boris Johnson, is nothing but a hit below the belt.

It is up to Boris Johnson now to destroy or at least to keep this Liz Truss under strict departmental control. Otherwise, from the way she is heading, Boris Johnson is going to have an extremely very hard time fighting a different battle to save his Premiership!

  3. ' Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had once again detailed how the Americans “no longer insist on the implementation of international law, but on respect for the ‘rules-based world order’. These ‘rules’ are not deciphered in any way. They say that now there are few rules. For us, they don’t exist at all. There is international law. We respect it, as does the UN Charter. The key provision, the main principle is the sovereign equality of states. The U.S. flagrantly violates its obligations under the UN Charter when it promotes its ‘rules’”.

Lavrov had to stress, once again, that the current incandescent situation may be compared to the Cuban Missile Crisis: “In those years, there was a channel of communication that both leaders trusted. Now there is no such channel. No one is trying to create it.”

The Empire of Lies, in its current state, does not do diplomacy.'

  4. Russia can also follow the USA by opting against making it's military forces subject to the ICC Jurisdiction. If the USA can do it, so can any other country. Putin can just pass such an order to quell all the hubris about the ICC investigating the false flag war crimes actually committed by the Ukrainians with the participation of the pro-Nazi elements.

Since the ICC did not pursue it's investigation earlier against the USA because of USA threat, the ICC now had no practical moral authority to talk about war crimes or pursue action against the accusation of war crimes against Russia. Any sensible person could see the logic of this argument.

On another topic, I salute the wisdom of Indonesia's President Widodo for inviting Putin to the G20 summit amid all the ball banging by the White Curse and it's sycophants. As host of the summit, Indonesia is at liberty to honour it's impartiality and invite who it chooses and not be dictated to by outside forces.

This is the same as Biden inviting Tsai Ing Wen to attend his Democracy Summit last December to antagonise Beijing. Did anyone say anything about it's impropriety? Again, what is sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gander.

  5. as possible".

"In Kyiv, Mr Zelensky called the bill's passage "concrete proof" that freedom can defend itself against oppression.

"I am sure now that the Lend-Lease will help Ukraine and the whole free world to beat the ideological successors of the Nazis, who started a war against us," he said in a late night address on Friday.

And the UK also said it was deploying some 8,000 troops for exercises across eastern Europe in a show of the Western world's resolve against Russia's continued aggression."

The above was spoken by President Zelensky of Ukraine.

    1. Who will be paying for the bills?

It took about 61 years for Russia to pay back the US for a similar Lend Lease Bill taken with the Evil USA.
This Zelensky is a con man, who in desperation, will do anything to get off the hook, to save his own skin.

Just imagine, how many future generations of Ukrainians will have to pay the Evil USA?

    2. The British is already out of Brexit, how is it going to deploy so many troops in Europe?

    3. The pro-Nazis group in Europe has been growing at a great speed and is now becoming a menace . This group must be stopped now, as early as possible. Zelensky is playing with fire, refusing to think how the future Ukrainians are going to pay back to the Evil USA.

  6. Putin now wants to completely wreck Ukraine economically and militarily. He knows Zelensky is not serious about talking consensus and is following the dictates of the USA and NATO. He will not stop at the Eastern front. He is now attacking Kiev.

The pro-Nazi group will be big a problem for Europe going forward, with arms and weapons in their hands, which will be as bad as ISIS was in the Middle East. NATO is playing with fire by supporting this group on the pretension that they are fighting for Ukraine. In fact, earlier signs have indicated that they are vying for power against the Ukrainian Military some years back already.

All in all, good for the USA later on, helping NATO to fight the pro-Nazi group rearing it's ugly head in Europe. How else can the USA remain in Europe with NATO not as apparent in solidarity as shown on the surface.

  7. It would be better for the Brits to just fade into the sunset like the Empires of Old Europe. They are making a fool of themselves trying to strut their feathers and attempting to frighten the Russian Bear and Chinese Dragon. They think this is still the era of the Gunboat Diplomacy where they can threaten whoever they want.

From the British Empire, to Great Britain, to Little Britain with an island and a half left, soon to be just the British Isles, they still think they can demand respect by their posturing. It is all over and they should live with it.

  8. Nations with nuclear weapons are the real dominators . Agreement that they won't nuke each others are silently acknowledged. Countries without nuclear weapons can shout and protest until the cows drop dead, wouldn't change any things. They must be equipped with nuclear weapons for offensive or built anti nuke cavern for defensive purposes.

  9. Aiyah, G20 all wayang. Whether Putin come or don't come no difference. Without googling, who remembers when was the last G20 meeting or what was decided? You got got extra money in your pocket, ah?

As I said before, lendlease also all BS.

    1. If Russia win and Ukraine become part of Russia, Russia assumes all of Ukraine's debts.

    2. If Ukraine win, Russia also pay for the lend lease from it's frozen assets.

  11. In other words, China is not allowed even to build infrastructures, which China had been doing in other parts of the world, for the Solomon Islands road to progress?

Surely China be there as a third party constructing airports, roads, railways and ports for the Solomon Islands if invited by them.

  12. Beijing is very worried about the potential effects of sanctions on China's vast holding of foreign assets, but the fact that they weren't able to come up with any solution shows the extent to which China is locked into a structural problem.

As long as China runs large trade surpluses, it has no choice but to acquire foreign assets in exchange for the surpluses, and as long as it is incapable of rebalancing domestic demand, it has no choice but to run large trade surpluses.

What is especially interesting, according to the FT, is that "when one official asked Chinese bankers if they could diversify into more yen or euro-backed assets, they replied that the idea was not practical."

They are right. It isn't practical because if China stops acquiring American assets and instead acquires Japanese or European assets, the resulting capital inflows into those countries would cause the huge American trade deficit to shift to those countries.

Unlike the US, Japan and Europe are unable and unwilling to run the huge deficits that correspond to China's surpluses. In fact they rely on their own trade surpluses to resolve their own domestic demand weakness.

It is mainly the US (and the anglophone economies) that are willing to run the huge deficits that allow other rich countries and/or commodity exporters to run surpluses. This means that the US provides the mechanism which allows other countries to repress domestic demand.

In order that they can continue doing so, the US must run permanent trade deficits and accept the unemployment or (more likely) soaring debt and asset bubbles that balance these deficits. Europe and Japan, rightly, refuse to play this role. The US, weirdly, embraces it.

The world, and especially the US, would be much better off if the problem of where to acquire foreign assets in exchange for permanent trade surpluses were resolved by preventing the net foreign acquisition of US assets by foreigners.

This would immediately force surplus countries to choose between either surging unemployment or a redistributing of income domestically that would boost domestic(and global) demand.

Put another way, if the US stops countries like China, Germany, and Russia from recycling their export surpluses by acquiring American assets, these countries would have to choose between either exporting less or importing more American products.

  14. China's BRI and infrastructure projects all over the world is already recycling it's US$ surpluses. China has little to worry about such projects they financed and built for other countries, as they are not China's foreign held assets. The recycled US$ surpluses, most of which have now been recycled as loans to so many countries around the world, is a smart move by China. Surely the USA cannot seize such infrastructure assets not in China's name?

The US also did not sign on to the UNCLOS, the international agreement of the.seas.Yet, it shouts the loudest when the verdict went in favour of the Philippines against China by the non UN non binding ruling of the court in The Hague and to this day still uses this to smear China in the SC Sea. US only recognise intl rules when its convenient.
