Foreign workers at all skill levels have been leaving Singapore in large numbers since the start of the pandemic
For expatriates, some have left because they do not see new job opportunities here, while others find the COVID-19 restrictions too strict for their liking
For mid- and lower-skilled foreign workers, many have returned to visit their families and some have faced trouble getting approval to return
While this spells trouble for firms typically reliant on foreign hires, it has meant more opportunities for Singaporean workers
Experts say that while Singaporeans can plug some of the manpower gaps, Singapore will need a fair share of foreigners in its workforce to maintain its global hub status.
Above is from CNA.
Whose narrative is that? What is the intent and purpose of writing and publishing this piece of shit? This is clearly a foreigner's perspective, hyping up fear that the foreigners are fleeing Singapore and not returning and hoping that the imbeciles would cower in fear and start to open their legs wider and going down on their knees to beg the fake talent foreigners not to leave, please stay in no talent Singapore or Singapore would sink into the third world without them.
This is the same tactic that the Americans are using in Ukraine. hyping up the fear of war, that Russia is going to invade Ukraine and Ukraine is crazily pushing for it. The truth is that the Americans wanted to start a war to let Europe burn. But Putin and Zelensky said relax, stop lying and hyping the fear of war. There would be no invasion. Both have sat down and defused the tension that the Americans are fanning.
Let's hope the imbeciles have wisen up and take this opportunity to clear the swamp, clean up the shit and let Singaporeans take up the jobs, the good jobs that Singaporeans deserved. Tell the fake foreign talents to go to home and be unemployed instead of coming here to make Singaporeans unemployed. Singapore has enough talents of its own and no longer drugged and drunk and in fear of not having enough foreign fake talents to compete in the world. In fact many of the jobs are local jobs for the local economy, no need to compete with the world. Why need to bring in foreigners to run transport services, postal services? Who is the idiot that thought so? Why need foreigners to run homeland banks serving the heartlanders and local businesses? Toa Payoh Branch competing with Bishan Branch using foreign talents to better themselves?
This is a golden opportunity to close the gap, put the legs closed together, and start anew, to have confidence in our own Singaporeans, not instant Singaporeans, like instant trees with short roots. Singapore must reinvent itself with its own people, depends on organic growth instead of building castles in the air. The banks are awaiting a major crisis to happen with so many foreigners with their fingers in the IT system, allowed to access private and confidential data of clients. This is more than opening the backdoor and praying that nothing bad would happen. Only silly imbeciles would allow this slippery situation to continue.
There are millions of foreigners queueing outside the door to come in for every foreigner that left. But this is not the point. It is time to shut the door and make sure that all Singaporeans are gainfully employed first, both here and those overseas that wanted to come home. In the older days, the western countries were paying good money, good exchange rates and attractive for Singaporeans to work there. Now the situation has changed. Singapore is paying just as well, and with a stronger currency than western currencies. Given the chance, Singaporeans would want to come back and work at home.
Singapore must take charge of its employment market and set the direction and must not allowed foreigners to take control and decide who should be employed, with foreigners having priorities over Singaporeans. The Stupidity has no cure Syndrome must be erased from the minds of the imbeciles. Bring back Philip Yeo to return to the future when Singapore depended on Singaporeans to compete with the world and succeeded to rise from third world to first world, with very little foreign talents.
The crime against Singaporeans must end here. The pandemic is the chance to reset and get things right again, Singapore is for Singaporeans, not rubbish from the hungry third world villages.
Foreign talents leaving Singapore in droves? That's good news! But I don't believe it.
ReplyDeleteI think only the Singapore President is leaving Singapore. She is leaving for China to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime freeloading opportunity watching the Winter Olympics.
Her six-year term can allow her two timely opportunities to enjoy herself at the Olympics Games Hosting Country as a VIP tourist at taxpayers' expense.
For each trip she spends visiting another country in official capacity, Singapore taxpayers will have to pay at lease $5 million because of the large entourage of security personnel and bodyguards, plus service personnel and official gifts and tips to her counterpart and other government officials at the other end.
At this difficult time when the government is increaing taxes, where the people are forced to tighten their belts, the Head of State of Singapore is spending taxpayers money to enjoy herself watching the Winter Olympics Games live in person in China!?
Wonder if Lee Kuan Yew would have permitted such ostencious and unnecessary spending while we are facing a national crisis of unprecedented proportion for more than two years?
I think this is a billion dollars question only the wise will dare to answer "NO
Pea-brain PM Lee said Singapore is for everyone, including foreigners.
ReplyDeleteForeigners leaving in droves? I say good riddance. Don't come back.
ReplyDeleteBetter they leave and be unemployed in their home countries than be here and make Singaporeans unemployed.
How many agree that this should be the way going forward for Singapore and Singaporeans?
Going forward must be priority to make sure all Singaporeans must be employed first, in jobs commensurate with their qualifications and experienced. Not PMETs becoming gardeners or drivers.
India is spending more money to create more employments for their citizens. We no need to create more employments for India Indians. Just do a favour to the many jobless and underemployed Singaporeans. It is the govt's responsibility to create good jobs for Singaporeans, not good jobs for foreigners.
What horrors? This is good news. More jobs for locals. Maybe cheaper homes. Lower cost of living. More breathing space on MRT trains. All in all, the benefits of fewer foreigners outweigh the risks. Locals can always be trained to take over.
ReplyDeleteJust look at China. From a backward country the Chinese Government has now built a country chock full of talents in every field. China is competing against the best of the best, now even in sports. Of course, where physical size matters, China is no contest. But in sports based on skills, China is equal to the best. For example, at the German Masters 2022 snooker championship, both finalist were Chinese. That was unthinkable few years ago, when it was the sport dominated by the Whites for decades..
Or take the case of Singapore going the way of importing sporting talents that reaps little benefit to improve our local sporting talents. Years of importing foreign soccer players and coaches for Goal 2010, does little to improve local standards except fattening the pockets of foreigner with fake rejected talents.
The imbeciles only think they are the only talents left in Singapore and see the rest of the Singaporeans no up. And they stupidly think all the fakes are better than Singaporeans don't care if Singaporeans are being dumped by the foreigners in Singapore.
ReplyDeleteAnd daft Singaporeans continue to elect the imbeciles to make them unemployed or become drivers and gardeners.
The imbeciles did not know that they are no better than the rest of the Singaporeans but were mostly turtles sitting on top of high posts, being put there not because they are real talents.
This is the best piece of good news that I read about in the year of the Tiger! Like China, do not be taken in by pessimism that the news is twisted to make us believe. Like China, take the challenge, improve self reliance without outside forces out to destroy, and end up the stronger.
ReplyDeleteDo not end up like the Japs. Destroyed morally, defanged completely, unable to improve their economic standing and stagnating and will be so as long as they remain under the thumb of the White curse. And like the Brits, also a fallen empire, the Japs are still trying to interfere in the Uyghur affair by passing nonsensical laws at the behest of it's colonial master.
People who live in glass houses should avoid throwing stones. The atrocities committed by the Japs will come back to haunt them, if they are not careful, and China retaliates. Why are the German atrocities during holocaust largely forgiven and the Jap's atrocities still a heavy debt weighing on their minds? It is the Jap's bad attitude of still harbouring their superiority complex..
Don't believe the lowly rank MSM news lah. The Sinkies bosses r too Addicted to the gobblemen's wide legged open policy lah. It's like Opium drug once taken No Cure liow lah. The present situation of expats and foreign workers or foreign darlings leaving in droves r only temporary lah, bet you, over Omicron or Covid19 & its variants r over you will see the next wave of Foreign Talens coming in with plane loads of them from u know who countries. So don't be too disillusioned or be too happy about it. It's like a Mirage happening now. Employments agents r still backed by employers to source from other alternatives sources in the 3rd world countries, probably might be sourcing more from Myammar, Vietnam, might be some eastern European, Africans etc...

ReplyDeleteHere's a more nuanced assessment.
Firstly, there are "unknown numbers" of Singaporeans who have left or plan on leaving.
There are also those, like me who've been away for a long time who have chosen to return to Fortress Singapore.
What will the final tally be? No one knows, the process is still going on.
>> While this spells trouble for firms typically reliant on foreign hires, it has meant more opportunities for Singaporean workers <<
Be very careful what you wish for. Those "local" workers are likely to be hired at lower wages than what their over-valued and lofty expectations of self-value are.
>> Experts say that while Singaporeans can plug some of the manpower gaps, Singapore will need a fair share of foreigners in its workforce to maintain its global hub status. <<
Dun have t be an "ex-spurt". Simple back-of-the-envelope guessimate will tell you the obvious. However, foreign labour policy will change, and our expensive govt of "intelligent elites" will be updating their calculus to arrive at "optimum" numbers.
Singapore is still heading toward a 7, then 9+ million population. They need that according to their birth-death models to beat the "aging demographic" problem the govt has been unable to solve.
My architect and engineer friends tell me 10-15 million is "do-able". But it is doubtful the PAP will go for that because they will surely LOSE THE ELECTION if they even whispered any mention of it. However, rest assured that they are looking into it on the down low.
The key word to the expensive/ elite social engineering govt is GROWTH. Die die, must have GROWTH, and keep pushing nation-building and growth sampai tua.
I am on board with any policy which strengthens FORTRESS SINGAPORE. As long as it keeps on rocking awesome, IMO, it is good policy. 🍻 🧧 🧧 🚀
Right Virgo. They left for home to see their families and will be back. This news is just to pull wool over Sinkie's eyes and hype up to good effect. Sanitised news is always good for a laugh.
ReplyDeleteElsewhere it is now nothing but bad news about Beijing Winter Olympics. In fact the West is getting more brazen in it's fabrication by claiming that China is asking Russia not to invade Ukraine until after the Olympics. China is furious. Russia in not the Eastern Europeans taking cues from the USA. The USA and the West is making great effort to split the China/Russian co-operation It is not going to succeed as Putin and Xi are well aware of the agenda.
At home in the USA the mid term is heating up with Biden trying to out-trump Trump and Trump trying to out-bid Biden. The show will get more interesting and Pelosi is enjoying herself.
Ah Yes,
ReplyDeletethe foreigners are leaving. The 160th rank media will happily show foreigners departing Changi Airport if they want, afterall they are not known as ShittyMedia for nothing. But for every foreigner that leave the country, at least 5 foreigners will come to Singapore, for which ShittyMedia will not show and question.
Anyone agree, please Kee Chiu.
This useless and expensive government can't even tell a convincing lie and yet they are paid millions. Lie here and lie there, as if dodo still believe them. Oh wait, could be the 61% dodo still believe them.
ReplyDeleteNo need to whisper 10-15 million population to lose the erection, they will lose the erection because they are sending 'erection pills' somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteCovid reset button oredy pushed. Wait for it to take its natural course. The wait would not be long.

DeletePfizer's new oral antiviral drug Paxlovid approved for use in Singapore
A new oral antiviral drug for treating Covid-19 has been approved for use in Singapore, said the Health Sciences Authority on Thursday (Feb 3).
"This is the first oral tablet approved in Singapore for the treatment of mild to moderate Covid-19 in adult patients who are at high risk of progression to severe disease, to reduce the risk of hospitalisation and death," it added.
Pfizer's drug, Paxlovid, was granted interim authorisation under the HSA's Pandemic Special Access Route (PSAR) on Jan 31.
The authority approved the drug in consultation with its Medicines Advisory Committee.
The drug has to be taken twice daily for five days, and should be given as soon as possible within five days of the onset of Covid-19 symptoms.
"It will be prescribed and prioritised to those at higher risk of severe Covid illness, as directed by the Ministry of Health," said HSA.
The drug is a combination of two medicines, nirmatrelvir - an antiviral medicine - and ritonavir - to maintain the blood level of nirmatrelvir for antiviral efficacy, it added.
HSA said it has reviewed available clinical data for the drug, and found that it could reduce Covid-19 related hospitalisation or death by 88.9 per cent when given within three days from the onset of symptoms.
The efficacy rate was 87.8 per cent when given within five days of symptoms appearing.
This analysis included patients infected with the Delta variant and lab studies have shown that the drug works against the prevailing variants of concern, including Delta and Omicron variants.
Pfizer is required to collect the relevant safety data and monitor the use of its drug as a condition for interim authorisation under PSAR.
HSA will also require Pfizer to continue submitting updated data from ongoing clinical studies to ensure the continued safety and efficacy of Paxlovid, such as its efficacy against prevailing variants.
HSA, by stating thus, has made itself looked so gullible, so lazy and so stupid. A wise person will never depend on the snake to provide its venomous poison to prove that it is okay to use its poison.
DeleteThis is the easy way out. But it makes the HSA lost its credibility, reliability and trustworthiness.
It is common knowledge that every year, around Christmas time and Chinese New Year time, i.e. between December and February, foreigners are leaving Singapore to return to their own countries to be with their families, relatives and loved ones. If the editors of the local newspapers do not know this as a fact, and have allowed this frivolous hyped-up non-news article to be published to suit a certain agenda of fears mongering, then they (both the editor and the reporter) ought to be fired!
ReplyDeleteWell, what we do know, the media always had an agenda, subtle it may be, to push a narrative. This one on foreign talent, or the loss of foreign talent and instil the fear of Singapore losing the competitive edge to other countries because of it. Objective- to brainwash citizens into support for the govt foreign talent policy which always had been lacking.
ReplyDeleteJust look at how the Russia-Ukraine tension is presented in the ST. Overwhelmingly anti-Russia with opinion pieces and news sourced by the bias western media. Heck, there is even a interview with Ukranians living here all pointing to Russia as the agressor and about to invade their country. If one were to read widely enough, one would know its the US and its vassel state UK that is stirring shit in Ukraine to cause a war when Russia itself had denied it. Even the Ukrainian president Zelensky confirmed that and appealled to US and Nato not to spin about a comming war.
Similarly earlier, US media and politicians had been talking about an inpending invasion of Taiwan by the PLA when none of this is happening and the ST had faithfully parroting what the western media reported.
The local media, especially the ST and CNA, are nothing but the low-down 160th spin doctors for Western Masters. The fact that SPH is run by a US-trained and indoctrinated ex-general of the SAF, speaks volumes. This guy who likes to throw umbrage at his own reporters could have been in the CIA's payroll too. Who knows?
ReplyDeleteActions speak louder than words.
There is no need to prove whether he is a CIA agent or not. What the SPH papers have been doing in the past few years and at present have proven beyond a doubt that the SPH is Pro-US, Pro-Western, Pro-India but strongly Anti-China, Anti-Russia and Anti-Asia.
Why it's important to look at the 'bigger picture' behind COVID-19 intensive care numbers
ReplyDeleteOn the face of it, it seems confusing: data shows there are more vaccinated people than unvaccinated people in ICU in Victoria and New South Wales.
Taken out of context, it can contribute to misinformation or even give an incorrect picture of how effective vaccines are.
But experts say that given the vast majority of Australians are fully vaccinated, the data is not surprising.
We take a look at the figures, and why some people are still suffering adverse outcomes despite being fully vaccinated.
Unvaccinated people are still over-represented in hospitals, death figures
If you look at raw NSW intensive care numbers in isolation with no other context, it can seem counterintuitive.
Between November 26 and January 8, 215 double-vaccinated people were admitted to intensive care, compared with 55 unvaccinated people, according to a recent COVID-19 surveillance report.
But those 215 people make up less than 0.1 per cent of fully vaccinated COVID-19 cases recorded in that period, while the 55 make up about 1.5 per cent of unvaccinated cases.
That might not sound like a big difference, but it's like a 1 in 1,000 chance of being admitted to intensive care if you're double vaccinated, versus a 15 in 1,000 chance if you're unvaccinated.
In other words, if you contract COVID-19, you're 15 times more likely to end up in ICU if you aren't vaccinated.
"The key issue really is not so much the percentage of people in ICU that have a given vaccination status," said Ian Marschner, a professor of biostatistics at the University of Sydney.
"The key issue is really to what extent are unvaccinated people over-represented in ICU? And to what extent are vaccinated people under-represented?
"And it's the relativity of those two things that really gives you information about whether vaccination is protecting against going into ICU."
A similar story is playing out in other parts of Australia.
The NT government recently said unvaccinated people made up about half of people in intensive care, despite making up a much smaller part of the population.
Queensland's health minister also recently reported that unvaccinated people made up between 20 and 30 per cent of COVID-19 deaths, despite making up just 8 per cent of the population.
According to a recent Victorian Chief Health Officer update, unvaccinated people accounted for 22.8 per cent of people in hospital and 35.8 per cent of people in ICU, despite making up less than 6 per cent of the population.
"This data clearly shows that a COVID-19 case is far more likely to be admitted to hospital or ICU if they are unvaccinated, and far less likely to be admitted if they have received three doses of the vaccine," the update said.
Anthony Holley, from the Australia New Zealand Intensive Care Society, said it was important not to let an out-of-context read of COVID-19 data convince anyone that vaccines were not effective.
"There is a relatively small group of the vaccinated patients that are indeed ending up in ICU. And this speaks to the efficacy of the vaccine," he said.
Why are some fully vaccinated people still going to ICU?
The vast majority of Australians are now double vaccinated. But even though vaccines reduce the risk of becoming seriously ill if you get COVID-19, no vaccine is 100 per cent effective.
"Very rare events, such as getting critically ill when you're double-vaxxed, still will occur when you've got millions of people [who are vaccinated]," said Stephen Warrilow, the director of intensive care at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne.
Anothet Spin Occtor is very at work again, trying to fool the ignorant, daft and stupid.
DeleteSpin Doctor conveniently left out other factors such as age, existing medical conditions, education level and personal hygiene. It's not just vaccinated and unvaccinated. You have to compare all the factors in toto in order to be able to come out with an accurate analysis. You cannot simply pick and choose two factors and start to analyse and draw a conclusion that fit into your spinning agenda, so as to CON the public to believe in the FAKE VACCINES!
DeleteGOTCHA!
There are also some medical conditions that mean people are unfortunately more at risk of adverse outcomes from COVID-19, even when they are vaccinated.
ReplyDeleteThat includes transplant recipients, whose immune systems are suppressed because of medication to stop their body rejecting the organ, as well as people with certain types of cancers.
"It's a tough time for people who are immunosuppressed at the moment because they can sort of do everything right, and they can follow all of the health advice and be doing quite well ... and they can still sometimes get quite sick," Dr Warrilow said.
Other risk factors for COVID-19 include obesity, older age, heart disease, and conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), according to Jaya Dantas, a professor of international health at the School of Population Health at Curtin University in Western Australia.
During the Delta outbreak, most people in ICU were unvaccinated. Why the change?
Professor Marschner said there was one "key difference" between the Delta and Omicron outbreaks: the percentage of unvaccinated people in the community.
Back in early September, when NSW's Delta outbreak was at its peak, less than 50 per cent of the eligible population in the state were double dosed.
When the Delta outbreak peaked in Victoria around mid-October, less than 70 per cent of people over 16 had received their second dose of the vaccine.
By the time Omicron arrived in Australia in late November, more than 85 per cent of eligible Australians were fully vaccinated — and that number has continued to grow.
"During the Delta outbreak, we were really ramping up our vaccination coverage. Whereas with the Omicron outbreak, we're coming from a high base of vaccination coverage," Professor Marschner said.
"As we were ramping up our vaccination levels from very low levels to higher levels, we did expect a greater percentage of ICU patients to be unvaccinated."
At the time of writing, more than 93 per cent of Australians over 16 have had at least two doses of a COVID vaccine.
Professor Dantas said when looking at COVID-19 data, it was important to look at the "bigger picture" — which was that the vast majority of fully vaccinated people were not getting seriously ill with COVID-19.
What does this mean for vaccines?
Another factor that could contribute to how COVID-19 affects vaccinated people, is how much time has passed since getting a second dose.
"The further you get from that second dose, the less likely you are to have a level of protection either against infection or severe disease, or symptomatic disease with Omicron," said Kylie Quinn, an immunologist and Vice Chancellors Research Fellow at RMIT University.
"From about five months after that second dose, then you start to see really significant waning."
People who were vaccinated early on in Australia's vaccine rollout, also tended to be people who were at higher risk from COVID-19, such as older people or those with underlying conditions, Dr Quinn said.
"They will have experienced more waning than people who got their second dose a little bit later in the rollout," she said.
Evidence also shows that Omicron is more likely to evade vaccines than previous variants of COVID-19.
This is why many experts, including state chief health officers, say it's important for people to get booster shots as soon as they can.
"I can't be clearer that a booster is essential in providing and maximising your protection against the Omicron variant," NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said.
"Two doses against the Omicron variant are not sufficient — you need the third dose. So anyone thinking that two doses is enough, I can't be clearer — please get that booster dose, and get it as soon as possible."
Using stale information public already know two years ago in order to spin for using the Omicron as an excuse for people to accept the false story of the need for booster shots.
DeleteAll these UNSCRUPULOUS SPIN DOCTORS MUST have been paid or benefitted indirectly from the sale and usage of the mRNA vaccines. No doubt whatsoever. Otherwise, why are they so busy body?
We will soon enhance LKY and Philip Yeo plan to bring in more millions of foreigners to stick more spurs up the ass of pink IC holders.
ReplyDeleteThose 2 were great friends of most MNC CEOs and Chairmen, with frequent wining and dining to discuss investments, expansion plans, tax breaks, and more access to foreign worker imports.
I actually prefer those 2 approach -- throw open Singapore and let all fight from all corners of the world. Sinkies want to thrive they better step into the gladiator arena and fight to the death. Survival of the fittest.
The current PAP is trying to speak from 2 sides of the mouth --- trying to protect & coddle sinkies, while at the same time trying to tell MNCs and CEOs that foreigners are welcomed. This is a shit approach.
PAP must go back to original LKY & Philip Yeo method --- you fight or die, doesn't matter you sinkie or foreigner.
In Philip Yeo's book he specifically spoke on this issue. During his time he was very selective in bringing in foreigners, only those highly skilled, not every tom, Dick and Harry foreigners.
ReplyDeleteWe must give credit to Philip Yeo for being discreet and not open legs wide wide. This is a mountain of difference from what is happening now.
Maybe told to discredit Philip Yeo?
ReplyDeletePhilip Yeo stepped on many toes when he said that Singapore has caught the 'eunuch's disease' meaning that eunuchs are running the country to ruin. The same analogy of eunuchs in the Emperor's favour holds such power and are so corrupt that they control even the ministers.
ReplyDeleteThe other Yeo, Ning Hong also stepped on someone's toes by criticising the payment of millions in bonus to someone in the echelons of Temasek years ago. You probably can guess who it was who chastise Ning Hong.

ReplyDeleteStat Boards are little fiefdoms run damn near autonomously by their "feudal lords" in essentially a "free market" to try out grand NEW IDEAS. The free market of ideas is where the magic happens. Of course, most ideas fail, and no idea succeeds "out of the box"...they need to be tried, modified, analyzed, and developed over time.
It is a standing joke amongst players that "Stat boards have all the money...hahaha" (sip the Cordon Blue, light the Cuban cigar, talk cock some more, make Guan Xi kau kau 🤑 😂).
That's right. Stat Boards have lorry-loads of MONEY to try out ideas that ensure the ongoing strength, growth, and power of Fortress Singapore.
Philip Yeo is a feudal lord with big ideas, big balls, and the big will to carry out his ideas to get the damn thing DONE, and continue moving FORWARD. Not only does he not fear controversy, but he will also do things to create controversy, and he wouldn't give a damn on the blowback or what people might think of him.
Implementing new ideas means you will have to step on stubborn heads, snuff out those who get in your way, throw the idiots under the bus...which Mr Yeo has demonstrated a high degree of ability. Without him no A*Star and advanced neuroscience in Singapore. Philip Yeo is a warrior. He gets results, measurable results. 💪🏽
Just check to see how many patents are awarded to Singapore science every year. Fortress Singapore is a world leader lah.
Fortress Singapore remains a meritocracy. You have to compete, you have to create value. No "free lunch" for anyone. You die, your business. ☠️ 👍🏻
So folks, stay alive and enjoy the wonders of Fortress Singapore. 🥂
Haha.....
ReplyDeleteFortress Singapore shall run out of food, water and energy once its reserve runs dry.
Sinkies shall have to work in second and third world countries. This is the fate awaiting them.
Sin shall be accorded hell.
