GST to pay for high medical cost

Gay: Sir, any chance that the GST increase be postponed since the people will be tightening their belt?

Heng, feeling indignant: The GST increase is to address rising health care cost due to an ageing population. We can spend, take on debt, and make our future generations pay for it. Is that fair?

Gay, stonewalled by such a high horsey response, tries another tack.

Gay: Sir, seems like the people will be paying to get us out of this hole. I understand we have a huge reserve, can’t we use that to tie us over?

Heng: I don’t foresee the need for an extra-ordinary budget.

So, there you have it. We are in safe hands.

Foong Swee Fong

Above is a quote from an article by Foong Swee Fong on why GST must be raised. Not sure if the question and answer narrative is real of just a satire. But it is not far from the truth as far as the govt's position on the need to raise GST to cover the rising cost of oldies needing more medical services and govt needing to pay or subsidise the rising medical cost.

Other than raising GST, it was suggested that the reserves be drawn down, of course not everything, but a limited sum that would not bankrupt the reserves. The answer is still no.

By the way, what is causing the medical cost to go up? Who is causing the medical cost to go up? If the rich want to have the best medical facilities and services, they can opt to go to private hospitals and pay for them.  For the general public, many cannot afford the luxury or want or need the luxury. They just need basic medical facilities and services, no need for 5 star hotel quality of care and services.

If only basic and necessary facilities and services are provided, why should medical cost be going up, up and up? And in terms of services, many of the medical stuff are from third world countries and their salaries are already a saving in cost. There is no need to pay for 5 star services to be served by third world staff.

Is the govt unable to control the rising cost in govt hospitals? Oh, oh, they are run like private hospitals, subject to supply and demand and commercial pricing....I see. The govt is hapless and cannot do anything, just like rising cost of living, rising prices of HDB, rising fees and charges.

I rest my case. Cannot win an argument against the most talented millionaires aka the govt.

How much have been collected from the compulsory CPF Medical Insurance Schemes and how much have been paid out? Net loss or net gain? Or they are collecting now, from the people now, to pay for the future needs of the future generation?

Fuel prices are up, transport fares are up, what else is up in a crisis when many people are losing their jobs, businesses are closing downs, our nations of shopkeepers losing money everyday, our national treasure, the hawkers, not scientists or highly skilled professions, are also going broke.

What does this tell of the financial health of the country, the national reserves? The billions they are paying the foreigners to manage our funds, what was the return, or what was the loss? Providing jobs to make foreigners millionaires using our reserves, how much did the millionaire foreigners bring in from their expertise, more or less than what we paid them?

If the return is so good, why the need to keep on raising fares and taxes in a time like this?

  1. Unemployed elderly senior Singaporeans with no income gotta pay coming higher GST, pay coming higher transport fares, higher food prices, higher electrical bills, sacrifice their lives to COVID for economic reopening as the PAP elites pursue an endemic coronavirus policy, etc etc . . .

  3. GST is livelong for those living, and covers those yet to be born and even those already dead. It is a tax on generations to come.

The sweet talk is that the majority pay no income tax, but GST is a tac on those who do not even have an income. It is so all inclusive that even the dead cannot escape.

  4. The escalating high cost of living is unknown to the Elites living in their ivory towers and who are able to afford those increases. Not the common folks. What is affordable to those Elites is a different meaning to the lower income folks and oldies. They depend on their meagre resources to survive.

  5. And yet making vaccination compulsory, to solve all the healthcare issues, is so difficult a step to take.

  7. On a separate note, Children getting COVID19 are less likely to die because they do not have underlying medical conditions.

So what is the logic of vaccinating children, since vaccination is not effective in protecting them against infection but touted instead to prevent complications if infected, as in the case of oldies.

It also looks like the deaths yesterday, were all fully vaccinated, if what the report does not want to reveal, actually serves to reveal what is behind the lines.

  8. Stop raising the taxes on the ordinary citizens who are now in a quandary how to cope with life amidst COVID-19 as many have lost their jobs, close down their business and are worrying about how to pay for food, electricity and water bills, transport and medical and health care issues. So government should stop increase taxes on food, transport, electricity and water bills, health care and medical essentials.

Do the most important thing and that is cut down the sinful salaries of ministers, MPs and senior civil servants substantially by at least 50% to 70%. Their salaries are overbloated and since they are so inefficient and incompetent they don't measure up to such high salaries the highest in the world. Have they no shame that the government with so much reserves by the hundreds of billions of dollars extorted from the citizens in previous years taxes that they still see the need to increase taxes to burden the people. Can the 60% imbecile Singaporeans wake up and vote in more qualified and competent people to run Singapore in future General Elections. Do not be afraid to vote out this selfish, self-interest and self-aggrandize party out to save Singapore from the precipice.

  9. I thought GST was to help the poor according to cheapskate. Help them to become poorer instead. The poor used to pay no taxes, but GST is even worse than paying taxes. You do not pay tax if you do not work or have any income. GST is pay and pay until and even after you die.

  10. GST is the most cruel, uncompassionate, iron hearted, and greedy and lazy, short-cut type of people who implement this.

GST stands for Greedy Sinful Thief. Ali Baba's brother.

  15. Petty thieves who steal a little out of necessity are found in the streets. When caught they are fined and imprisoned. Rogues, scoundrels and crooks are big time robbers under the cloak of coats and neck ties are found in western style democracy parliaments. The silly majority citizens vote the minority robbers in parliament to rob the people and the country and worst still they rob big time under the veil of legality and so they don't go to prison. They should be despatched by the masses and all their ill-gotten wealth and riches should be confiscated.

  16. Another of the Fxxking Big Brains' Draconian, high-handed, iron-hearted, arbitrary Decree. Must have come directly from the ruthless Emperor or Empress Dowager. Most probably the latter.

"Public officers in Singapore who choose to remain unvaccinated against COVID-19, despite being medically eligible, may be placed on unpaid leave as a last resort, said the Public Service Division (PSD).

This comes after the Ministry of Health’s announcement on Oct 23 that only fully vaccinated employees – or those who recovered from COVID-19 within the past 270 days – will be allowed to return to workplaces from next year."

  17. WP loves independent panels. It's time they heed their own call and appoint an independent panel to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Raeesah's lies.

Sylvia Lim who had been described as 'dishonest' by two high court judges should not be on a panel investigating a lie. Moreover, the role of the WP leadership in this saga is not clear as according to former NCMP Daniel Goh, all speeches are vetted first before they are delivered in Parliament.

If the WP leadership knew of the lie but kept quiet, are they complicit in abusing the parliamentary privilege of immunity?

If they knew of the lie but kept quiet, should they then throw Raeesah under the bus to save the party?

  18. Whether WP leadership complicit or not, the WP leader has to shoulder some responsibility for Raeesah's blunder. This kind of conduct must not be tolerated in the first place.

In fact, she smelt trouble right from the very beginning, before she was elected.

The question is: Why did WP put her up as an election candidate when she has already shown signs of questionable character before the last election? Who pushed her in?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Right SSO 9.15. A Trojan Horse perhaps? Actually well before her, WP had probably already been infiltrated by Trojan Horses. Those politicians that play the game of musical chairs are naturally suspect and not to be trusted.

That is why former WP chief Low was so careful, and yet had to deal with the aftermath of fallouts many a time. Particularly those that aspire for high positions within the party that they were not qualified to be in, and when they then left, demonising the party leadership was the norm.

Who pushed her in is the question.

All in just for their prestiges and the monies.

You think to serve the Peoples?"

In additional most these MPs are just part-timers and yet pay so ridiculously high like full-timers.

Full-time pay for part-time job. Wonder where can you find such jobs other than in SinkLand.

  22. To them attending Parliament is a waste of time. Parliament is not worthy attending. They have better and more important things to do.

So, why pay them billions to be Members of Parliament?
