China steps up air incursions into Taiwan buffer zone after US-led drills

Increasing tension comes as America and allies increase military co-operation in Indo-Pacific

Military tension around Taiwan increased on Monday as China sent a record 52 warplanes into the country’s air defence identification zone after the US and five of its allies held a large naval exercise east of the island.

The incursion, which included 36 fighters and 12 nuclear-capable bombers, marked the third time in four days that the People’s Liberation Army Air Force set a new record for flying into Taiwan’s air buffer zone. The flights on Monday brought the total number of such missions to 145 since Friday.

Taiwanese officials said that while the Chinese aircraft that entered its Adiz on Monday appeared engaged in an exercise aimed at the US and its allies, the scale of the PLA activity near Taiwan had reached a dangerous level.

“This is getting close to the brink of conflict,” one senior Taiwanese official said.

According to Japan’s Maritime Self Defense Force, the navies of the US, Japan, the UK, Canada, the Netherlands and New Zealand conducted a large exercise involving three aircraft carriers and 14 other warships on Saturday and Sunday south-west of Okinawa.

Two people familiar with the situation said the Chinese aircraft were simulating attacks on some of the naval vessels that had participated in the joint drill and were on their way home or to new missions.

Ivan Kanapathy, a China expert who served at the National Security Council during Donald Trump’s administration, said there was too much focus on the PLA flights given the other military assets China had directed at Taiwan.

“As a matter of perspective, the PLA is continuing to improve on the roughly 2,000 surface-to-surface missiles that can strike Taiwan from the mainland with minimal warning.”

  1. Taiwan's Tsai Ing Wen said failing to defend Taiwan would be catastrophic.

The reality is that it would be just the reverse. with Taiwan returning to the motherland, it would no longer be exploited by the Japanese, the half Japanese in Taiwan and the Americans to be a threat to China.

The Chinese in Taiwan must open their eyes to the Japanese threat living among them, the hundreds of thousands of Japanese and half Japanese passing themselves off as Chinese or Taiwanese. The Chinese must not be conned into wanting to break away from the motherland and be colonised by the Japanese all over again, ruled by the Japanese and abused by the Japanese.

  2. Taiwan DPP’s Tsai turns to US master for help out of fear of catastrophic consequences

Taiwan's regional leader Tsai Ing-wen on Tuesday published an article, entitled "Taiwan and the Fight for Democracy", in Foreign Affairs Magazine, claiming that "If Taiwan were to fall, the consequences would be catastrophic for regional peace and the democratic alliance system." It seems that the Tsai authorities are really scared, anticipating that their secessionist attempt has gone to a virtual dead end. They, as an anti-China outpost of US' Indo-Pacific Strategy will sooner or later be wiped out by the Chinese mainland, but they have a severe lack of confidence that the US and its allies will fully defend the island. In this context, Tsai penned the article to underline the current peril, calling on the US and its allies to strengthen their commitment to the Taiwan island and to deter the Chinese mainland.

Tsai repeatedly used the word "democracy" in the article, like a cultist regarding what she called "democracy" as a talisman. However, everyone can see that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has hijacked Taiwan's democracy and has turned it into an extreme ideology to confront the Chinese mainland. It is clear to all that Taiwan has bitten off more than it can chew. There was a period of peaceful cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan island during which both sides sought shared development. But it was ruined by the DPP, which is now quenching thirst with poison. Taiwan's practices of acting as a strategic outpost against China in exchange for US' protection is the craziest gamble in the history of international politics.

Now they are also in the fear of losing everything. In an interview with Australia's ABC News on Monday, Joseph Wu, leader of the external affairs of the Taiwan island, said the island is preparing for war with the Chinese mainland, drawing on Australia for help. And Tsai, in Foreign Affairs magazine warns Taiwan's "fall" will be catastrophic for the US and its allies. Their fate is bound to be a catastrophe when they attempt to separate Taiwan from the China. The further the DPP authorities go down the path in colluding with external forces, the closer they move to their tomb.

There is no force in the world whose will to "defend Taiwan" is stronger than China's will to fight against secession and achieve reunification. To be precise, they are completely incomparable. China dares to have a life-and-death fight against any force that hinders our reunification, but no force dares or is willing to fight to the death against the world's second largest economy, as well as a nuclear power, in order to prevent China's reunification.

Tsai authorities understand this point. When they never say uncle, they are quietly shivering, and they will increasingly turn to their masters for help.

  3. All the countries in the region, except Japan and Australia, will be popping champagne when Taiwan return to China. The torn in the region would be removed, Japan and America would no longer be able to use Taiwan to start a war in the region.

There will be peace without the warmongers agitating for war.

  4. U.S. Pushing Singapore to Let American Visitors Enter Freely - Bloomberg

American officials are pushing the Singapore government to open a travel lane so visitors from the U.S. can enter the city-state with the same sort of freedoms travelers from Singapore get in the U.S., according to people familiar with the matter.

The tiny city state suffered 9 avoidable COVID deaths Tuesday as new daily cases surged to a record high of 3,486, this as the ruling PAP 4G elites attempted to make Singaporeans live with the virus and open up the country to more foreign visitors.

  6. I have a sense that Tsai, William Wu and a whole hordes of DPP American lapdogs are fearing a Chinese takeover not for Taiwan but for their own well being.

In this event, China would treat them as traitors of the nation and in Chinese history, traitors have no good endings.

  7. Political solution for Taiwan cannot be passed on from generation to generation and China can't wait forever - Chinese President Xi Jinping

"The issue of political disagreements that exist between the two sides must reach a final resolution, step by step, and these issues cannot be passed on from generation to generation,” Xi says.

Speculation is rife that mainland China will mount a forced takeover of Taiwan within the next five years after Xi confirmed his tenure as paramount leader of China for a third five-year term.

  8. The reunification has dragged on for too long. Now China is strong enough to act and is waiting for the right moment to do so.

Just give China an excuse or reason to do so, and Xi will do it.

No country in the world is able to stop China from this legitimate act.

There are also many in Taiwan that would want a reunification with the mainland.

The pro independence movement is led by some local born and Japanese in disguise and would not have the full support of all Chinese in Taiwan. It is an honour and with many benefits in a unified China for everyone.

  9. The Chinese people from both sides of the Strait must not allow the Japanese and the West to manipulate them to be at loggerhead and threatening to turn into another civil war.

See how the Germans reunited and became one country again.

The whites would not want China to reunite with Taiwan or the two Koreas to become one country again. The more they can divide these two nations and keep them divided the happier would be the whites and the Japanese. The latter is harbouring the intention to grab Taiwan like they grabbed the Ryukyu Islands to become a part of Japan.

Chinese from both sides of the Straits must be wise and generous enough to put down political differences to become on united China again.

  10. China Will Invade Taiwan by 2025, Taipei Warns

Taiwan’s defence minister has warned that China will be fully capable of invading the island by 2025, in the government’s first clear message to the public that the country faces a threat of war.

Chiu Kuo-cheng issued the warning after almost 150 Chinese warplanes operated in international airspace near Taiwan between Friday and Monday.

“The current situation is really the most dangerous I have seen in my more than 40 years in the military,” Chiu said in a question-and-answer session with lawmakers about a NT$240bn ($8.6bn) special defence budget for anti-ship missiles and warships.

“If they want to attack now, they are already capable. But they have to calculate at what cost it would come and what results it would have,” Chiu said. “From 2025, they will already have lowered the cost and the losses to the lowest possible level, so we call it they will have the complete capability.”

The remarks follow appeals by Taipei to the international community to support the country against Chinese aggression.

On Tuesday, Tsai Ing-wen, the president, issued an urgent appeal to stand with Taiwan. Other democracies “should remember that if Taiwan were to fall, the consequences would be catastrophic for regional peace and the democratic alliance system. It would signal that in today’s global contest of values, authoritarianism has the upper hand over democracy,” she wrote in Foreign Affairs.

Over the past year, Beijing has dramatically increased air and naval operations close to Taiwan. According to Taiwan’s defence ministry, 672 Chinese warplanes have flown into Taiwan’s air defence identification zone this year, far outpacing the 380 recorded in 2020.

Some US officials and many experts have played down the significance of the People’s Liberation Army flights, saying that they were not the prelude to war but aimed instead at intimidating Taiwan and wearing down its air force, which scrambles fighters in response.

However there are concerns in Washington. In March, Admiral Philip Davidson, then head of US Indo-Pacific command, told Congress that China might attack Taiwan within six years. Other commanders have also privately expressed concern that China may act more quickly than most experts on the Chinese military believe.

But Taiwan’s government has long feared that discussions about preparing for a Chinese attack would undermine public morale. US officials and experts have repeatedly criticised Taipei for being complacent and doing too little to strengthen its defences.

Chiu indicated that Taiwan’s military was not ready for full-scale conflict. “Our ability to deal with normal situations daily is absolutely there — having prepared for war for so many years, we are combat-ready,” he said. “But now the situation is extremely severe, so we must strengthen our capabilities quickly.”

  11. The pro-independent in Taiwan had beginning to realise that the escape routes out of Taiwan are blocked with the present of the China fighters jets exercised. Meaning they can't board any rescue vessel around Taiwan. Therefore, many of them, like Democrate Su hinted to fight with broom. Actually, he believed he can fly riding the broom like Harry Potter. Fat hope.

  12. The pro independence group are thinking too highly of themselves, that they could go to war with China, just like the silly Aussies.

China only farts and Taiwan would be blown away. It is a total mismatch. If China wanted to , it would not take a day to finish off Taiwan. China is not doing it because it is insanity to kill off the Chinese in the island.

China could just sail its warship and landing craft on Taiwanese soil. Who would dare to fire a shot at them? The end result is to be blown up to pieces. It is a sure defeat. Taiwan cannot be defended against the military might of China.

The Americans or Japanese would not dare to enter a war with China.

  13. It is good that China is not showing too much of it's military assets other than war planes. Why the Jitters when it was only an exercise by the PLA? Both sides are conducting military exercise eight?

It is always good to keep the best for the real deal and keep the enemy guessing and indecisive, not knowing what to expect. The Chinese have this ingrained trait of keeping secretive and not letting outsiders know the full course. This was already evident from the days of old when martial artist take on students but almost always leave out teaching them the most important aspect of their art. This was probably the result of students turning traitors to betray the teacher.

China must follow North Korea and keep the enemy guessing as to what it's intentions are keeping it's ability to deter and retaliate in the most obvious manner.

  15. The DPP is trying to gang up US and its allies to help them fight China in the even of a war. In a recent interview with Australia ABC, its laolan face FM Joseph Wu pathetically beg Australia to defend Taiwan against China.

Its president, Tsai cunningly frames a war with China as a battle between authoritarianism and democracy, aping the western rhetorics and hoodwinking the western nations to join in.

China had only asked the DPP to declare that Taiwan is part of China, which is already in the Taiwanese Constitution and would have allow Taiwan to continue business a usual, a de facto independent state. But no, instead the DPP goes around taking one provocative action one after another.

Banning exports of masks when the COVID19 started in Wuhan with no regard for humanitarian causes. Help US sow the lie that the virus originated from the Wuhan lab.Supporting and funding pro-democracy protests in HK that actually helped the DPP reelected to power by capitalising on voters' fears. Supporting anti-China policies from US, EU and Japan. Some even think they are actually more Japanese than Chinese ignoring the atrocities of the Japanese on the Chinese and the native aborigines.
Now, pushing for nations to change its representative office to Taiwan, succeeding in Lithuania with US about doing same but weighing the risk.
Inviting foreign serving politicians like Czech MPs and French senators and has been leaders like former Aus PM Tony Abbot now to visit Taiwan knowing it angers China.

The DPP should pray their lucky stars that Xi and CPC are alot more tolerant than their trigger happy master the US. The way its going, any short-fused mainland leader would have realised the reunification by now.
