Singapore: A COVID-19 Halfway House In The Making

After one and a half years of economic downturns, and after spending more than $100 billion of hard-earned taxpayers' money in the Reserve, the world-best super talents of Singapore are desperate, very desperate.

They are now in the process of turning the tiny island of Singapore into a "Lepers Island", where all potential lepers are sent to, for quarantine, until they are proven "cleaned", before they are allowed to proceed forth towards their destinations. A COVID-19 Halfway House of sorts.

It's all about the economy. It is all about money. Money is more important than preventing, protecting, preserving and saving their own citizens' lives, their own citizens' children and their own citizens' children's future.

If the economy tanks, no amount of safety measures implemented against the COVID-19 coronavirus for the safety and health of the country men, women and children can save them from the ultimate misery and suffering.

If the economy fails, thousands of jobs will be lost, foreign talents will desert, foreign investments will escape, and even some local talents and leaders will abscond. The suffering will be immense.

If the economy collapses, the whole country collapses. It becomes a failed state. It becomes a shame, a disgrace, a laughing stock and horrendous experience for the elites as well as the majority or the commoners through no faults of theirs. The suffering will be unimaginable.

There are some fake leaders who always talk about reviving the economy while the COVID-19 Pandemic is still in existence, still in progress, still marching on and still rampaging. But the beauty of it all is that they don't even have a single clue as to how to go about doing it, how to revive the economy while the COVID-19 is still very much alive. How to have the cake and eat it, so to speak.

There are some fake leaders who are quick to parrot other leaders' use of the phrase "coming back stronger" but how do you come back stronger when you don't even know how to come back in the first place?

So, the best they can do is to grab at any straw that floats towards them. In other words, they will seize any opportunity that may accidentally or incidentally comes across their paths.

So, now that some countries like Australia and Japan are presenting the idea of using Singapore as a Covid Quarantine Station (CQR) for foreigners who wish the visit their countries, the desperate world-best super talents quickly seize the opportunity, and so Singapore is now on its way to become the first (or the only) world-best COVID-19 Halfway House!

Fact is stranger than fiction.

  1. Plan for S'pore quarantine hub to ease Aussie log jam

Couple months ago, Aussie media were saying the Morrison government was working on an ambitious plan that would establish Singapore as a quarantine gateway, holiday destination and potential vaccination hub for returning Australians, international students and business travellers.

The deal would help clear the log jam of approximately 40,000 Australians stranded overseas, boost tourism to Australia from Singaporean nationals – and third countries down the track – and kick-start the multibillion-dollar market for international students at Australian universities, which has been smashed by border closures.

Multiple Morrison government sources, who asked not to be named so they could discuss details of the proposal, told The Sun-Herald and The Sunday Age Trade Minister Dan Tehan and Government Services Minister Stuart Robert were driving the plan and leading behind-the-scenes policy work.

Under the plan, Singaporean nationals who have had their vaccination would be able to travel to Australia for work, study or holidays without having to complete two weeks’ hotel quarantine.

It could also be possible for people from third countries to enter Australia via Singapore after completing two weeks’ quarantine in the city-state.

The use of Singapore to bring Australians home and to restart tourism and business travel would significantly ease pressure on the states’ hotel quarantine systems and the federal government’s Howard Springs facility.

For Singapore, the proposal would bring in revenue for its hotel operators and the broader tourism sector, as well as ensuring it maintained its status as regional hub for flights.

Good idea. Turn the island into Alcatraz. Then Indonesia and Malaysia will have a perfect excuse to take over or take back Singapore, because that means Singapore is no more an Independent state but an appendage of Australia.

    Think deeper.

  5. Brunei has announced on Wednesday (19 May) that it will be temporarily suspending its reciprocal green lane (RGL) arrangement with Singapore and will take effect from 7pm on Thursday (20 May) until further notice.

According to the press statement, this decision is made after the review of the risk assessment of the countries/areas/regions affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

From now, all travellers from Singapore will be required to undergo self-isolation in a hotel for a period determined by Brunei’s Health Ministry.

Now Brunei also sees Singapore as high risk. What the fuck?

  15. What the Australians have is land. They have many remote towns where they could conveniently turn into quarantine camps and the virus would not spread to nearby towns unlike the congested island like ours.

But they want to keep Australia safe while conning the imbeciles to the take risk to infect the whole island.

The dumb imbeciles might say good idea, easy money and can fill up all the hotels.

  16. SINGAPORE: A man and a woman were charged on Friday (May 21) with harassing their neighbours, one of whom is a nurse at Sengkang General Hospital.

Cheang Eng Hock, 56, received two charges of intentionally causing harassment. His wife Lim Sok Lay, 48, was given five similar charges and one count of public nuisance.

They are accused of using insulting words and behaviour against their neighbours at a Punggol HDB block in May 2020 by shouting: "COVID", "COVID spreader", "virus" or "virus family". They also allegedly sprayed disinfectant solution in their neighbours' direction.

The ST reported: "Preliminary investigations indicate that the initial transmission could have occurred through an airport worker who was assisting a family from South Asia, who arrived in Singapore on 29 April, 2021 and were subsequently found to be positive for Covid-19 through their on-arrival tests." Further investigations are being done. CAAS and CAG did not say which country the family was from.

Why weren't that family tested for COVID-19 before they board their flight to Singapore?

Why are they so fearful of mentioning the country. If it's India, just say it is India.

So, whoever are responsible for this will have to be exposed for the good of the whole country and our future generations.

Nothing sinister, it's spelled out clearly in the CECA Agreement signed in 2005.

ARTICLE 9.3: GENERAL PRINCIPLES FOR GRANT OF TEMPORARY ENTRY

Each Party shall grant temporary entry to natural persons of other Party, who are otherwise qualified for entry under applicable measures relating to public health and safety and national security, in accordance with this Chapter.

Each Party shall process expeditiously applications for temporary entry from natural persons of the other Party, including requests for further extensions. Each Party shall notify applicants for temporary entry, either directly or through their prospective employers, of the outcome of their applications, including the period of stay and other conditions.

Neither Party shall require labour market testing, economic needs testing or other procedures of similar effects as a condition for temporary entry in respect of natural persons upon whom the benefits of this Chapter are conferred.

Natural persons of either Party who are granted temporary entry into the territory
of the other Party shall not be required to make contributions to social security funds in the host country. In such cases, they will not be eligible for social security benefits in the other Party for the duration of the stay.

This Article 9.3 of the CECA agreement offered, allowed and provided India an extreme and overwhelming Unfair, Undue and unnecessary advantage over Singapore.

    See link below:

    http://www.commonlii.org/sg/other/treaties/2005/1/INSFTA-Agreement.html

Although the document states "either party", in practice, Singapore is extremely and overwhelmingly on the losing end because of the mere fact that Singapore has only a 5.8 million population but India has 1.3 billion population!

That means Singapore has surrendered her rights to decide in her people's interests, in her national interests.

It further means that certain aspects of sovereignty of Singapore has been surrendered to India by virtue of this chapter in the CECA agreement.

Why our world-best top politicians did not take this practical aspect into consideration before signing the CECA agreement in 2005?

Blinded by certain limited considerations of gains in a bigger investment market?

This, in many respects, looks like a case of penny wise, pound foolish.

    Think harder.

  30. In any agreement India wants to reap all the advantage, giving little in return.

Under the BRI and RCEP they know that using that tactic will not work. With the likes of China inside those groupings. The Indians knew they have little room to manipulate to gain advantage. Hence they prefer to stay out.

But staying out is a blessing in disguise for the others in the two groupings. If they stay out and stay away is a good thing, but what India is doing, under USA and Western brainwashing, is also trying to sabotage the two groupings. India has seen the developments in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka taking off and could see the benefits, but are bound by their affiliation to the USA to stay out.

  32. India in denial - there's NO Indian B.1.617 COVID-19 variant virus

The Indian government has asked Indian social media companies to immediately remove any content from their platform that uses or refers to the term ‘Indian variant’ of coronavirus, sources said Friday.

According to sources, the IT Ministry has written to all Indian social media platforms asserting that the World Health Organization (WHO) has not associated the term “Indian Variant” with the B.1.617 variant of the coronavirus in any of its reports.

The sources said that a notice has been issued in this regard on Friday by the IT Ministry, which states that a false statement is being circulated online that implies that an ‘Indian variant’ of coronavirus is spreading across countries.

They added that social media platforms have been asked to “remove all the content that names, refers to, or implies Indian variant’ of corona virus from your platform immediately”.

  33. Ya, remove it and India will be fine overnight. The idea is good. But the reality is more Bollywood make believe than real.

Does not matter anywhere or affect anyone else. If the Indians thinks it suits them and make the situation better in the country, who are we to go against it?
