This comment by Philip Yeo said it all about the fumbling and bumbling of the controversial so called foreign talent policies of Singapore in the last 2 decades. Every silly cow and cheat and fake can come in under this policy. And worse, the marginalisation of Singapore's very own PMETs and replaced by questionable foreigners with fake or dubious degrees, qualifications and skills.
Why is this policy still allowed to go on when the smell has reached sky heaven?
Philip Yeo was one of the key architects of Singapore's phenomenon growth in the 70s and 80s and must be shaking his head at what is happening in Singapore now, with more than a million cheap foreigners and fakes and barely any real growth in the GDP to talk abo
Philip Yeo belonged to the first generation of civil servants that always think Singapore and Singaporean first. His generation would never sell out Singaporeans to foreigners.
ReplyDeleteWell said buddy, I have my utmost respect for the first and second generation commanders..
DeletePY foresight is excellent. Just like GKS.EDB under his leafership is the success id S economics.
DeleteOUR YOUNG FRESH GRADUATE HAS TO COMPETE WITH A FRESH IT PROFESSIONAL FROM INDIA. WHAT VALUE CAN THIS NEW INDIAN GUY BRING TO SINGAPORE?
ReplyDeleteA FRESH FOREIGN GUY IS JUST GOING TO DEPRESS THE SINGAPOREAN WAGES.
WE SHOULD BRING IN FOREIGN TALENT AT A HIGHER LEVEL AND ALWAYS TO SUPPLEMENT, NOT TO REPLACE.
- Phillip Yeo
Just as boomers enjoyed opportunities with brick and mortars with cores production locally and this was due to our bilingual policies which at that times were lacking in BRICS were still infants and US/EU/Japan trusted us and when IT technologies became the daily requirement, our education system still think the job of IT administer is the same job as programmers....and expecting job of IT administrators as Developers....think those complaints are behind what the BRICS saw the huge potential markets especially they have the Human Resources and is time we leverage them due to Low cost and upgrade our skills as developers and entrepreneurs instead to compete a losing level field..Case of adapting technologies changes just like boomers forced to learn first PC ourselves as well as smartphones features to cope with the rapid society changes..Not a questions of too many coming in as if we do not allow such IT support,we may not have that many financial and wealth management companies here ...Think broader and out of the box since we have neither Human Resources populations availability or huge land masses,we need to think outer of the box ..and this 3G and 4G are adapting and moving right as long as they take care of those left behind as a fundamental principles.
DeleteNot forgetting that our boys are disadvantaged by two years and also having the CIT obligation for another 10 years.
DeleteWho are the traitors that are betraying the people of Singapore?
ReplyDelete*61%
DeleteThey are the ones who place money and their selfish interest first before Singaporeans precious lives!
DeleteSo sad that Philip Yeo also ended up being replaced by foreigners.
ReplyDeleteWith Philip and his peers gone, replaced by foreigners, who is there to protect the interest of Singaporeans.
Ask the 61%, if they know who these people were.
DeleteThey only know their FT bosses, some with fake certificates.
The current lot of Long Gor Administration believes in collecting more monies cos they know that no monies is no honey, so they open doors white wide. They jus don't care about locals or locally born people, to them they can be sacrificed for any dubious so called free trade jus to expand on their investments portfolio & businesses on Nehverland. Or they can juz up the protection taxes via gasshtee to suck dry the sillyzens, to them its u die is ur own bziness. And jus before erection they wud says all the right things that the sillyzens wud wanna hear even said promise made & promise kept after erection all back to square one, the cycle then repeats itself dunno how long this iterations might last, it's such a petty state on this island everything becomes like Zoombie in lock down via Zoom in a Zoombieland.

ReplyDelete"So sad that Philip Yeo also ended up being replaced by foreigners..."
BTW Who replaced Philip Yeo?
Thanks Kind Regards JC
This is like karma, you cannot pin point a person that replaced Philip Yeo and the first generation of civil servants, just like you cannot say because of this you get that. You would have to look at the whole basket, how many foreigners are here and how many Singaporeans have lost their jobs, retired, unemployed, under employed.
ReplyDeleteIt is like a musical chair, a left, b took his place, c took b's place, d, e, f,g etc etc came in to fill the empty chairs. a,b,c, d, etc could be Singaporeans, e,f,g,h etc could be foreigners. The foreigners would not have a chair unless a Singaporean has left.
One might argue, all the places were taken over by the generals, locals. So what is the problem? Then go figure out yourself, why so many foreigners are here fully employed. Some Singaporeans must have lost their jobs right?
Only traitors will formulate such Traitorous Policies to sabotage their own countrymen and women.
ReplyDeleteSuch traitors must be collaborating with foreign governments behind the scenes.
Such traitors are usually the smooth talkers and they tend usurped power.
I suspect the Emperor must have been compromised to the extent that he has no choice but to "obey" the Usurper.
Such traitors must be singled out. They must be severely punished on behalf of the Pioneers and for the good of Singapore and Singaporeans.
If the Emperor is compromised and controlled by traitors, then a special squad of loyal Singaporeans must be formed to save the Emperor from the clutches of the traitors.
ReplyDeleteI also think that the loyal PAP members, especially from the Old Guards loyalists, should form a special task force to help extricate the Emperor from his predicament and dilemma.
Deletein every country on planet earth - $$$ talks, BS walks (always).
ReplyDeleteCECA not failing Singapore, but failing ordinary Singaporeans
ReplyDeleteCECA bring in cheap foreign workers from India which lower the wage bills for corporations and raise the competitiveness of the Singapore economy - a key goal of the elites.
That in turn would attract more multi-national companies to locate to Singapore, resulting in more corporate taxes to be collected by the finance ministry and helping to continue fund the stratospheric wages of the ruling elites and top civil servants.
The CECA creates jobs for India nationals which lowers India's unemployment numbers and boost Singapore-India diplomatic ties, trims employment costs for corporations, contribute to corporate tax revenue and boost Singapore's image as one of the top global cities - a proud accomplishment of the elites.
But, ordinary Singaporeans are left out of the equation, unless one consider more low-paying gig jobs created - such as food delivery and PHV-driving - as a positive.
I want to nominate Hsien Loong for a Nobel Peace Prize for creating so many jobs for India and helping to solve a lot of unemployment problems in India. Actually India should do this but they are so ungrateful, oops busy with Covid19, think they have no time for this. They may even nominate Modi or his predecessor for making Singapore signed this CECA that created so many good jobs for India, alleviating poverty and making many millionaires in India.
ReplyDeleteOn second thought I dunno whether to nominate Chok Tong in place of Hsien Loong as this was signed during Chok Tong's watch if I am not mistaken. Or perhaps should nominate Swee Kiat as he was the one who signed it.
What do you think? Who is most deserving for this Nobel Peace Prize?
It is not the ones who signed the agreement. Anybody can sign any agreement but if it does not work out, then nothing happens.
DeleteIt is the one that made it happens that is worthy of the reward and praise. Therefore, I think Hsien Loong should get the Nobel Peace prize. He has been working very hard for the past 16 years to make sure the CECA agreement works well to solve India's massive unemployment problems.
India should crown him as Maharaja of Delhi.
Do you know what is CECA. I bet you have no idea about it. It does not give any special preferences to Indian nationals like you think. Go read about it first before concluding anything
DeleteThis is definitely a more worthy cause than what nasi lemak or chicken rice for Cultural Heritage awards or Hawker Culture.
ReplyDeleteI think the Nobel Peace Prize should be awarded jointly to the Empress Dowager as well as the Emperor. I believe she is the one wielding the power. One of the most powerful women in the world but the most powerful bean in the Little Red Dot.
ReplyDeleteAgree with your suggestion.
DeleteIn fact, she wields the Ultimate Authority in the Land of the Sick, i.e. Sickening Land.
She is the one who controls and the whole island. No top appointments goes to the President for rubber-stamping without her consent first. That's why all the natural aristocrats are very afraid of her.
Come to think of it, without this CECA, what would happen to all the India Indians that are here now?
ReplyDeleteAnd what would happen to those PMETs that have lost their jobs?
How many Indian companies are here, how many jobs have they created and how many gone to Singaporeans, and what kind of jobs, receptionists, delivery clerk or senior or top management.
ReplyDeleteSame questions to ask about Singapore companies and Singaporeans in India.
After 16 years in operation, the CECA has been transformed into Commerce, Employment and Career Advancement for India nationals while it means Career Ending and Curtailing Agony for Singapore nationals.
ReplyDeletePrediction:
ReplyDeleteCECA will be the main cause of the PAP Dynasty's downfall.
Counting the days....
DeleteThe majority Chinese voters will evolve and swing their votes to the Opposition Party that has the interests of Chinese Singaporeans at heart. Ultimately, it will be a racial issue.
ReplyDeleteWould the Chinese become a minority in the future?
ReplyDeleteWould the Indians become a majority in the future?
RB,
ReplyDeleteYou can nominate Hsien Loong for the Nobel Peace Prize.
India should award him with a Noble Prince Price.
Singaporeans can collectively present him with a Nationally Pissed Plague!
More than 200 people were injured in Malaysia on Monday when two trains collided in the capital Kuala Lumpur, the state-run Bernama news agency reported.
ReplyDeleteThe accident occurred at 8:45 p.m. local time when one of the trains, which was going on a test run and had only one driver, collided with a train carrying passengers.
Both trains, which are operated by Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, were traveling at 40 km (approximately 25 miles) per hour when they collided in a tunnel between the Kampung Baru and KLCC stations, state media said.
Some 166 people sustained minor injuries and were sent to nearby hospitals for treatment, including Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Forty-seven passengers were severely injured, state media added.
Videos and photos posted on social media showed several passengers bleeding and broken glass panels inside the trains.
Dang Wangi District Police chief ACP Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said that the train carrying passengers was heading from KLCC station -- an underground tunnel close to the Petronas Twin Towers -- to the Gombak station at one end of the line.
The empty train was going from Kampung Baru station to the Gombak station, Abdullah said, according to state media.
Malaysia's Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has called for a full investigation to discover the cause of the accident.
Hi RB...
ReplyDelete"What do you think? Who is most deserving for this Nobel Peace Prize? ..." Too late now, Yuan Longping, 'father of hybrid rice,' should had been awarded a Nobel Peace before he passed away. Kindest Regards JC
Nobel Peace Prize can be awarded posthumously. Never too late.
ReplyDeleteIf you are a white men, oops, black man also can, if you called yourself American, better still a president, you could start wars, commit murders, kill the innocents, destroy countries, and you could still be awarded with a Nobel Peace Prize.
ReplyDeleteThis is how creepy this award has turned into.
Would they consider the contribution of Chinese and Asians towards the good of humanity?
Asians must have their own peace prize and ignore the hypocrisy of the white men.
RB cannot disagree with what you said here. A freaking black man turned out to be a genocide of Syria and Libya given a Nobel peace prize just don't make cents. Kindest regards JC
DeleteCECA brings in Indian 'talent' to compete and even replaces citizen PMET. CECA also brought in a second wave of a more dangerous COVID variant to the country. We really get the best of everything via CECA- in reverse.
ReplyDeleteBe patient. Wait for the whole of India to descend on this island. Then see where the imbeciles going to hide. They think they can still be in power and calling the shot and planning who to be PM and what not?
ReplyDeleteThere is also hindsight bias: Had Covid-19 infections not suddenly spiked, prior grousing about imported threats would not have been validated.
ReplyDeleteTaiwan is suffering a recent resurgence, too, without South Asian arrivals.
https://www.straitstimes.com/opinion/forum/forum-easy-to-point-fingers-with-hindsight-bias
1. Taiwan is suffering a resurgent because the British, Europeans, Hongkongers, Malaysians and Singaporeans who got infected by the B1617 Bombers deadly viruses from India have visited Taiwan and presented the B1617 Bombers deadly viruses as gifts freely to the Taiwanese people.
ReplyDelete2. Many Taiwanese are doing business in India and with Indian business people. These business Taiwanese brought back the B1617 series of deadly viruses to Taiwan and then distributed to their own people very quickly.
3. There are also some Indians, Srilankans and Bangladeshis working in Taiwan, though not so many like in Singapore due to Singapore's open legs and cheap labour depressed wage policies.
Who says no South South Asians visiting?
Even if it is true that no South Indians have visited Taiwan for the last six months, the India originated B1617 Killer Viruses can still reach Taiwan through a THIRD PARTY.
Don't be so naively taken in by the propaganda article. It is very clear that whosoever wrote that article has an intended agenda obviously!
Lately, such articles trying to refute and deflect blames on India and Indians who originated the new double-mutation B1617 Bombers, have been coming out of the Straits Times. This confirms that the Straits Times have been infiltrated by Anti-Singapore elements, no doubt.
Foxconn has a new factory in South Asia. Now factory cannot open, so many Taiwanese must have flown home for safety, oops, I mean holiday.
ReplyDeleteGot to be politically correct and sensitive. Don't get pofma or labelled as racist.
LHL and all his generals are assigned top civil positions but with little bit related business acumen.NOL our national icon sold at a big loss and SPH is making losses,we citizens of Singapore take umbrage at that
ReplyDeleteI had met with some young indian scholars fully funded by our Govt since JC, all the way to Harvard Business School Master programs (imagine the costs to us) ...
ReplyDeleteAs former recipient, I am grateful for the opportunity given by the sponsor, but for them, it was a "bad deal" (just that few of them had given us very "good" impressions) ...
Basically,
1. If we dote and shower them with such overflowing "love", they don't and don't know how to appreciate (unlike the early immigrants from South India into Singapore).
2. If we see this as a deal like what Philip Yeo sees, they are definitely better deal makers than anyone of us ... because we tend to look at such deal with some baseline 底线,but in their society, anyone with baseline 底线 cannot survive.
3. Even the shrewd Chinese businessmen got burnt, I don't think our friendly Singapore businessmen can survive, as long as we have business baseline 底线。
4. GREAT British is the main cause and thus manipulator of what causes India is today (whats new .. divide to conquer) ... IMHO, it is a 1-way highway and there is no turning back until the country comes to an dead-end, then shuffle the cards and restart like my PS5 games.
To me, CECA is probably an incentive, a lubricant if you will, for the Government's investment arm aka Temasek (and its derivatives) to do business in foreign Countries. Albeit at the expense of local communities & their livelihoods.
ReplyDeleteCECA is 成事不足 败事有余;赔了夫人又折兵。
ReplyDeleteI pray every now and then the employment clauses in the CECA could be withdrawn.
I beg to differ. If today youngsters arent having such mentality and being strawberry generations, they wont be replaced. At this current moment of COVID-19, youngsters still can change job where there's no bonus. what a joke.
ReplyDeleteHe has said it all. Unfortunately, some public figures n politicians mixed CECA with racism n xenophobia. Or rather Is it xenophobic against locals?
ReplyDeleteIs still not too late to reverses the flow. Act decisively, send the fake back and turn off the tap. Fast track training the Singaporean core talent the same old way EDB done. Bring back Philip Yeo into the Economic Planning n Uni Edu Planning again.
ReplyDeleteMany jobs do not require rocket scientists, just learning on the job + plus 6-month to 1-year very specific training is sufficient.
DeletePhilip Yeo is the Goh Keng Swee of Post War Singapore. Bring back Philip and within 5 years the problem is fixed
ReplyDeleteThe sg government is able to answer your question
ReplyDeleteDont be racists. CECA is just one of many FTAs signed by MTI. Does MOM look at the size of the graduating cohort or underemployment numbers before approving work permits/SPass/EP?
ReplyDeleteWe are the generation from the 80s where we undergo training with EDB..... But after Y2000 no other scheme to train our youngsters to be what the industries and economy required. Its the job of the govt to train its people to the needs of the economy and industries. Not bringing in FTs/FWs to solve the problem.... Instead creating more problem.....!!!
ReplyDeleteAgreed with Mr. Philip that we has to be selective with those value experience one. The real FT should be here just to pass on knowledge to the locals and leave with 2 to 3 years max. Some of these FT comments that Singapore can't perform without them, why are they so proud in foreign land? By the way, they don't come cheap either because most of them stays in private condo plus their salary easily all in $7k min.
ReplyDeleteThe imbeciles are using this as an excuse to inflate the population to inflate the property prices and their big fat pay.
ReplyDeleteThey totally ignored the consequences of big population and high density problems in a little island that has food insufficiency and insecurity, energy and water insecurity etc etc.
A major crisis would destroy everything, all systems will break down.
The removal of Philip Yeo, a key architect of modern Singapore is a big loss to the nation state. To make matter worse, no one was able to continue the works of Philip Yeo and Goh Keng Swee, with charlatans doing works to destroy what they had built.
ReplyDeleteSingapore is going downhill and going to the dogs. No thanks to the charlatans.
The Singaporeans today are witnesses to the destruction and demise of modern Singapore in the not too distant future.
There is no way to reverse the course of this dreaded CECA crime against Singaporeans.
ReplyDeleteThey had entered too deep into India, now caught with their pants down. To withdraw and run, means dropping their pants and running away naked, leaving everything behind.
How foolish can they be to put themselves in such a precarious position, unable to extricate from the shithole unless they are willing to sacrifice everything.
Stupidity has no cure.
When you have a herd of empty head elephants hanging on to the gravy train, swaggering around like they are very smart but contributing nothing good, no value add, what good can come out of it?
ReplyDeleteThere are so many collecting millions, did anyone of them feel guilty for doing nothing but taking so much?
Just ask what is the real contribution to deserve that million dollar a year?
On the contrary, they keep devicing new ways and awards to decorating themselves like Christmas trees, forcing exaggerated contributions into our history books.
DeleteDo you know what is a prick without a head?
ReplyDeleteWait till they start to create senior MPs, senior Mayors, chief Mayors .....
ReplyDeleteGood for nothing! Collecting par rise but doing less job!!!

ReplyDeleteSouth Korea ferry: students reveal horror of Sewol disaster
Children's corpses reveal desperate attempts to escape Korean ferry
Most of those who survived made it out on deck and jumped into rescue boats, but many of the children did not leave their cabins, not questioning their elders, as is customary in hierarchical Korean society. They paid for their obedience with their lives.
The govt of the day has a obligation to explain n not assume we will listen always. As we know the price of obedience.....
I am sure Philip Yeo is wrong. No Singapore company will hire a fresh IT grad from India. They wouldn't have the maturity, experience or stand a chance against fresh Singaporean grads. A Singapore grad already has 2 years of NS to build his maturity and intelligence, and also a more rigourous education system. I can't see MOM clearing a fresh IT grad hired from India.
