Private hires - the risk we allowed our loved ones to be exposed to

Stepping into a car of a stranger is getting very common today with private hires all over the islands. How many parents would warn their children, especially the girls, not to go out with strangers, not to talk to strangers, but are willing to let their girls, wives, to enter a car with strangers that could be just waiting for them to rob, molest or rape them?  The thought is so scary and the pain is unacceptable and could ruin the lives of the victims. Some may even lose their lives because of this reckless act of allowing it to happen and hoping for the best, that all is well. It is so dangerous but allowed by the govt with barely any controls or checks. Once in the car, the victim is totally at the mercy of the driver. Imagine your wife or daughter is in the car now, driven by a stranger to a secluded spot, to be molest, raped and robbed or beaten?

The recent reports of private hires out just to molest and rape the females, not to fetch them from point A to point B, is too much to take and to think that the authority is still taking this so lightly. Never mind, only a few cases. Can you believe that is the thinking of people in charge of the safety of your loved ones? One case is too much, not talking about 15 to 18 cases a year and many went unreported.

Would the govt do something about this, NOW? Regulations is a must to protect our loved ones and the fairer sex from falling easy prey to the criminals waiting for them to step into their cars. To think that it is now so easy to prey on the females for sex with the victims unwarily and voluntarily walking into their cars that the govt allows it to happen is shocking and totally irresponsible.

Some people need a source of income. Fair. But the govt cannot say it cannot do anything about it, would not to anything about it, would not legislate it when the safety of our loved ones are at stake. At the very least the drivers must be registered and vetted before being allowed on the road to prey on the victims. It is not a fool proof solution but at least it would reduce the odds and put the potential criminals on notice that they are being watched.

The ordeals of the victims as reported are so sickening, so hapless in the confines of a car with a criminal wanting to harm them and there is no way to get out and no one to help them. How can this continue to go on and the govt doing nothing about it? Millionaires with super talents must have some brains to think of a solution to prevent such situations to continue, immediately. Do not wait till your loved ones are harmed to regret that you have not done the proper thing when you could. Ok, millionaires would not exposed their loved ones to such situations as they have their own private vehicles to bring them around safely. It is the peasants that would be taking the risk. Nothing to worry about, no need to rush to do anything. The statistics said it is quite safe, only a few cases a year.  Acceptable risk. The victims just blame it on bad luck. Might as well say the victims are willing to as they know the risk?

What do you think? How many of you think it is safe to allow your vulnerable loved ones to enter a car with an unknown stranger?

The stupidity has no cure sickness in Singaporeans is getting worse. Taking things for granted, not thinking and believing everything is safe and sound. How many of the drivers are out there waiting to pounce on the weak fairer sex that willingly walked into their cars?

  1. A 27-year-old man was sentenced to five years and 10 months in jail and was given six strokes of the cane on Wednesday (23 December) after admitting to driving his female passengers to secluded areas and molesting them.

Muhammad Hafiz Maksah pleaded guilty to three counts of outraging the modesty of his passengers, with another two charges taken into consideration.

According to court documents, the man was suspended by the ride-hailing company Grab in August 2019.

However, Hafiz then opted to look for jobs on unregulated carpooling chat groups on Telegram while preying on female customers.

  2. Separately, a group of netizens opined that the punishment handed down to Hafiz was too “lenient”.

They said that he should have been given heavier sentencing for the “terror and suffering he put his victims through”.

Some online users also warned female passengers to not hire unregulated private-hire drivers.

They said that women travelling alone should pay a bit more and hire regular taxis for their own safety.

Others urged authorities to look into such unregulated private-hire drivers seeking passengers via Telegram groups and to ban such groups.

  3. Netizens question why police did not apprehend the perpetrator sooner

Commenting on the Facebook page of CNA, netizens said that their “blood boils” when reading about the incident, calling Hafiz “real maniac” and “pervert” who brings “disgrace” to other ride-share drivers in Singapore.

Others questioned why the police did not apprehend him earlier given that the victims have lodged police reports shortly after the sexual abuse took place.

They said that if the police have nabbed him after the first victim made a complaint, he would have not had the opportunity to molest the other victims.

  4. Yes, ask all the charbor million$$$ minisheets, senior or minisheets of state, papaya M Pees to take private cars with stranger drivers for a month or so. I think their fathers or husbands will object to it as they have their own private cars or private drivers. That is why these so-called super talents have no thought for the ordinary citizens, for allowing this sort of special transport services. Didn't they know that one case of molest, rape or death is too many ? I hope the so-called super talented should have their brains dissected for close examination.

  5. The above comments were taken from a post in TOC. The details of the cases of how 3 victims were molested are in the article.

  6. It will need a serious case of epic proportion to wake the elites up. Approving a new mode of travelling is easy, but administrating and policing it's problems is not. Problems do not come up with just assurances. They happen when the opportunity presents itself.

The whole island was so taken up with the dock-less bike sharing scheme two years ago. Bikes were scattered all over the roadside and look what happened? Then they allowed the motorized bikes on pedestrian walkways, resulting in many accidents and even death, and what happened?

Using citizen's life for trial and error decisions is not the way to go.

  7. Singapore has really gone backwards. From first to third world. All because of 3rd world mentality leaders are at the helm running the show. Even the Parliament has become a 3rd world rubber-stamping office that serves only the will of one Dictatorial political party, which ultimately means only a few persons.

All because of the pursuit of GDP growth, so as to fatten the bank accounts of a small clique of elites.

  8. From first to third world is really happening. What kind of jobs are Sinkies being encouraged to look for nowadays? Working in Casino, hawking and driving pirate taxis seems the most popular.

In the 50s and 60s we were preoccupied with creating good paying jobs that go beyond hawking and driving pirate taxis. These were slowly being phased out during the old man's watch. And then slowly we reached first world level.

But now we are really going backwards by bringing back 'heritage jobs'. Anything 'heritage' is valuable, but not 'heritage' occupation! Third world here we come!

  9. Rolling Out The Experimental Westerners Covid-19 Vaccine Of Pfizer (Without Liabilities) With A Fanfare

The US, UK and EU have rolled out the westerners-based experimental Pfizer vaccine for Covid-19 in a big way, with a fanfare like never before happened in the history of medical science.

It is advertised and publicised so vehemently, vigorously and widely as though it is a huge global political campaign to win the hearts and minds, and the approval and acceptance, of the voiceless and powerless masses (as if they are so important to the propagandist and the protagonist).

Sing-along Singapore will also begin its Pfizer Covid-19 vaccination "exercise" on December 30, with health-care workers at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) the first to be guinea-pigs to go through this mass experiment of a lifetime.

Other health-care workers at public health-care institutions as well as private hospitals will be experimented in the subsequent weeks.

Next in line will be the seniors aged 70 and above. They will receive their jabs from Feb 2021 onwards on a voluntary basis (unlike your coffin money in your savings with the CPF Board being siphoned off by compulsory premium deductions annually without your consent).

Other Singaporeans and free-riding long-term residents who are medically eligible for vaccination will follow on after that. No one will be left behind.

The MOH statement said that the "Expert Committee on Covid-19 Vaccination", which MOH had convened to make recommendations to the government on Singapore's vaccination strategy to tackle the disease, submitted its recommendations on December 24.

The cost of each jab is a jealously guarded secret. Though thr vaccination is said to be free. The money has to come from someone somewhere. Money doesn't drop from the sky. Bird shits do.

The whole experimental vaccine exercise is not free. Money ultimately has to be paid by the taxpayers - that's YOU!

The corrupt politicians, the corrupt approving authorities' officials and the owners of the big pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Moderna will be laughing all the way to their banks, and also laughing at the guinea-pigs.

    Moral of the story:

In desperate times, the desperate who knows benefits from the desperados who don't know.

    Merry Christmas!
    (12 Days Of Christmas)

PS: Has anyone ever wonder how can there be an Expert Committee on Covid-19 Vaccination" when the vaccination exercise has not even begun? These thick-skin elites baffle me no end, really.

  10. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccine is spliced mRNA from the virus. This when injected will reacted with the human tissue to form something that is like the virus to elicit a response from the body to produce anti bodies.

The mRNA is supposed to be destroyed by the body subsequently. What is not known is whether the mRNA would react and mutate with the recipient's DNA and turn into something else, a modified DNA like GM fruits and poultry or animal products. This is likely to be rare but could happen.

If I have a choice I would opt for the Chinese vaccine. I would likely pass the February vaccination exercise if it is the Pfizer vaccine and wait for the Chinese vaccine, no need big fanfare or propaganda to tell the world that it is safe, because it is safe.

  11. I too will wait for China's Sinovac. You need only one jab.

The Pfizer and Moderna need two jabs at 30 days interval.

  12. Hi Virgo, this could be the case.

My lifestyle does not bring me to crowded places except the trains. So not too big an issue. How big is Singapore, can't take too long even if put at the end of the list.

  13. Remember the story of the land lord's son falling off from his horse, crippled but then escaped being drafted for war?

  14. If the mRNA reacts and mutates with the recipient's DNA and turns into something like crocodile DNA, then what Bolsonaro said may come true.

  15. Europeans did not trust the mRNA vaccines

WARSAW/SOFIA: Europe rolled out a huge COVID-19 vaccination drive on Sunday (Dec 27) to try to rein in the coronavirus pandemic but many Europeans are sceptical about the speed at which the vaccines have been tested and approved and reluctant to have the shot.

The European Union has secured contracts with a range of drugmakers including Pfizer and BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca, for a total of more than two billion doses and has set a goal for all adults to be inoculated next year.

But surveys have pointed to high levels of hesitancy towards inoculation in countries from France to Poland, with many used to vaccines taking decades to develop, not just months.

"I don't think there's a vaccine in history that has been tested so quickly," Ireneusz Sikorski, 41, said as he stepped out of a church in central Warsaw with his two children.

"I am not saying vaccination shouldn't be taking place. But I am not going to test an unverified vaccine on my children, or on myself."

  16. Europeans are rushing into UAE just to be vaccinated with Chinese vaccines. They could not get Chinese vaccines in their own countries. They did not trust the new western vaccines.

  17. The Coronavirus mRNA will be absorbed and merge with the human DNA in the blood stream, to be able to generate antibodies against the Coronavirus. It may not stop there.

The Coronavirus is highly mutative. Once the mRNA merged with the DNA, together they may mutate.

Also there is no way to know whether the DNA will control the mRNA or the other way round.

It is possible that a human being with a weak DNA can be overwhelmed by the Coronavirus mRNA.

Only time will tell. That's why it takes three to four years to come out with a safe and viable vaccine.

You can play with other people's lives but don't play play with your own life. But the other people must be stupid enough for you to play with their lives first.

However, there are many such stupid other people around. That's why some people can play with other people's money for so many years and still living a high almighty lifestyle without a concern for the world, without having to take responsibility, without having to answer to the other people.

  18. Think of it this way. If Pfizer's vaccine is that safe, after warp speed development and approval, why do they need a 'no liability' clause to cover their arsehole.

This clearly shows there are serious doubts about it's safety that is 'hanging like the Sword of Damocles' over it's use.

Big Pharmas will never reveal the truth of it's faults but capitalise only on it's strong points.

  19. Be wary of sales talk. 95% effective, is as good as whiter than white.

Safe is as good as safe for the now until something happens.

If nothing happens, it is safe. If something happens, remember the no liability clause.

The garment must disclose this waiver of liability clause to the public to keep the people informed, be transparent. Saying that it is voluntary is only saying half truth.
