End days for Singapore social media

TR Emeritus on semi-hiatus

Please be informed that we will be putting TR Emeritus (TRE) on semi-hiatus status effective immediately, after consulting with the owner and our techie (who has been with TRE for over a decade).

What this means is that articles from contributors, readers and those who have given blanket permission will continue to be published on TRE, but there will be no editorials during this period, unless it is absolutely necessary. Readers can continue to comment on these articles as per normal.

The above is the latest development in social media in Singapore.  TRE is by far the biggest or second biggest in Singapore covering local social and political issues.  When TRE is down and out, the only one left would be TOC. It's editor Terry Xu is dated by Sue and kept very busy and under intense pressure due to the courtship..

Should Terry throw in the towel, TOC would be another closed chapter in history, leaving a beleaguered TRE limping along.

Look at the column on the left of this blog and you will see many of the earlier blogs and sites that are now history.  Blocked, banned etc etc. Think ASS or All Singaporean Stuff is being blocked.  Cannot access anymore.

Wondering when mysingaporenews would suffer the same fate. If TRE also goes the way of the dodo bird, then it would be the end of meaningful social media in Singapore except for those writing about food, pets and fashion. Yes, we have freedom of expression. Maybe by then I should also be writing about pets and wildlife.

  2. Good Morning, RB

Yes, it may be good to start a Pets Only blog.

Singaporeans just love dogs - running dogs, three-legged dogs, no tail dogs, no testicles dogs, and the most famous lap dogs that eat off their masters' hands.

I may start a blog titled "The Entitled Elite Dogs".

  6. 2020 US Election: Diminishing Returns For Loser Tump's Hope of All Hopes

A federal judge has dismissed Donald Trump’s lawsuit to overturn the presidential election's results in Pennsylvania, in order to deprive Joe Biden from becoming the 46th President of USA.

Trump has aimed to block the certification of Joe Biden’s victory in Pennsylvania, citing unsubstantiated issues with mail-in ballots. With 20 electoral college votes at stake in Pennsylvania, the dismissal by the court is a heavy blow to Trump’s greedy and mischievous attempts to win without winning.

In a ruling on Saturday, US District Judge Matthew Brann said: “This Court has been presented with strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations, un-pled in the operative complaint and unsupported by evidence. In the United States of America, this cannot justify the disenfranchisement of a single voter, let alone all the voters of its sixth most populated state.”

Trump’s lawyers had argued for mail-in ballots favouring Mr Biden to be tossed out, claiming that the US Constitution’s guarantee of equal protection under the law was violated when Pennsylvania counties took different approaches to notifying voters about technical problems with their submitted mail-in ballots. The judge dismissed the argument.

Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani said, “Today’s decision turns out to help us in our strategy to get expeditiously to the US Supreme Court.”

The lawsuit in Pennsylvania is one of many launched by the Trump campaign in several closely contested states, though he has had little success so far.

Winner Joe Biden is projected to have 306 electoral votes, to Loser Trump’s 232, well over the 270 votes needed to win.

Republican senator Pat Toomey issued a response to the Pennsylvania ruling that says Trump had exhausted his options to victory in the state, and congratulated “President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their victory”.

The Pennsylvania senator added: “With today’s decision by Judge Matthew Brann, a longtime conservative Republican whom I know to be a fair and unbiased jurist, to dismiss the Trump campaign’s lawsuit, President Trump has exhausted all plausible legal options to challenge the result of the presidential race in Pennsylvania.”

“This ruling follows a series of procedural losses for President Trump’s campaign. On Friday, the state of Georgia certified the victory of Joe Biden after a hand recount of paper ballots confirmed the conclusion of the initial electronic count."

“Michigan lawmakers rejected the apparent attempt by President Trump to thwart the will of Michigan voters and select an illegitimate slate of electoral college electors."

“These developments, together with the outcomes in the rest of the nation, confirm that Joe Biden won the 2020 election and will become the 46th President of the United States.”

He urged Loser Trump to “accept the outcome of the election and facilitate the presidential transition process.”

Loser Trump responded on Twitter calling the senator “no friend of mine”.

This is USA's Dictatorship at it Glorious Height.

Three cheers for Don Trump, the Exposer of the Real USA. Champion of Democracy or Demoncrazy???

  7. To all Singaporeans, please do not be worried by this new development in the Singaporean social media. When they close down the TRE and the TOC you will be left with the state controlled Straits Time. This is the main venue for information and you can definitely trust whatever you read on this platform. I predict that in 10 years from now with the Straits Time spewing out all the kosher information the whole population of this little red dot will be like zombies following all the rules and regulations implemented by the PAP. There will be 100% mandate in all GEs and Singaporeans will not have to think about anything, just obey and live like robots. Congratulations to all Singaporeans. You deserve what you vote for. Somehow I do pity you lot.

  8. Ya, write about Ah Cow, Ah Bey, Ah Hen should be allowed. But some of these animals already retired or near retirement. So how?

Or just follow Yahoo, everyday write about the British Royal Family quarrels, who is bonking who. Who is pregnant by who. Which celebrities' dog died. Which celebrities' cat just give birth. All nonsensical stuff.

But even if they close down My Singapore News I for sure would never again read the States Times or watch Channel Nudes Asia.

  9. There are so many pets in Singapore, mostly owned by rich and powerful people who have too much free time and excessive free money to spend on their favourite items, clothes, cars, mistresses and pets.

There will be no shortage of stories to write about these pets belonging to the Entitled Elites.

  10. FRIGHTENING DEVELOPMENT IN TRUMP'S CAMP

Rudy Giuliani, the ex-New York City mayor, is Trump's lawyer who is spearheading Trump's unholy mission of overturning the 2020 US Presidential Election in his own favour by all means and at all costs.

In an interview with Fox News' Sean Hanity, Giuliani said, without specifying "SOMEONE SHOULD CUT THE HEAD OFF" the Democrats while making a throat-slashing gesture.

This could likely be an instruction from Mafia Chief Don Trump to signal to his hatched men from the White Supremacists groups to assassinate Joe Biden.

If this was his intention, as I think so, then it is extremely serious. The situation is developing into murderous acts of violence. He is advocating, encouraging and instigating open violence against the Democrats in general and the President-elect Joe Biden in particular.

The CIA, FBI and the Secret Service may likely be involved too, because they are now under the control of Trump, who is still the US President until 20 January 2021.

One can never know what a desperate psychopath can do...

  11. And the USA wants to export it's brand of democracy to the rest of the world?

Putin, Xi and Kim are enjoying the entertainment trotted out by the Washington Circus.

The USA is now no better than the African countries in running their elections. And they really have no morality to accuse those countries of not being transparent and rigging their elections.

  13. @All

The latest PMI readings tonight show that both US manufacturing & services sectors are rebounding back at the fastest pace in 5 years. Confirming the improving economic numbers over the past few months.

Much better economic strength & resilience than Singapore.

Biden is lucky. He will inherit a US economy that has passed the worst & on the slope of recovery, plus likely 5-6 different successful vaccines by March 2021.

He can actually go play golf everyday & fuck care, and the US will recover on its own to pre-pandemic levels by end-2021.

Biden is most likely to surround himself with competent people & listen to them. This will accelerate US recovery to mid-2021.

  14. They keep inflating their claims. Astrazenega found to be 70% effective but after the fall in their share prices, now claimed to be up to 90% effective. Even 70% is just a claim.

They just keep blowing their trumpets like Pfizer and Moderna, more than 90%.

Just sales talk to con the world and buyers to pay what they asked for.

  15. Hi RB,

I was one of the earliest supporters of TRE including generously donation. I befriended Richard Wan the first editor and met him yearly at a predetermined place each year.

Before that I was very early a diehard Usernet user SCS and I came to befriend many of Social.culture.Singapore and users and moderated editors. I never met Dr. Tan then he was studying in Stanford U and I met with a few editors including Edmund he was doing his doctored in U of Adelaide....

That’s the past and what lies ahead.... dunno... I'll be lucky to be around after 2020..

    Kind Regards JC
