Foreigners having a party, Singaporean PMETs in dire straits - A choice between stupidity and change

Temasek says it hires mostly - Singaporean staff

“About 60 per cent of our staff across our 11 offices in eight countries are Singaporeans”, said Temasek Holdings Private Limited is a Singaporean holding company, owned by the Government of Singapore.

In its Temasek Review 2020 report highlights, the commercial investment company revealed its staff composition proportion in a series of graphs....

“Temasek has its roots in Singapore, where there is no place for xenophobia, racism, or hate speech. The very birth of Singapore as an independent nation was founded on the ideals of meritocracy, regardless of race, language or religion. What matters most to us in Temasek, are the values, the integrity, and the character and capability of our people”, it added.

The above is quoted from www.theindependent.sg. This explanation by Temasek came about as a result of the recent furore over the massive influx of foreigners in Singapore and the increasingly clearer picture of many top jobs in govt and GLCs being filled by foreigners while many experienced Singaporean PMETs were laid off, became unemployed, retired, or underemployed. The trend also says that those Singaporeans aspiring to top management jobs are likely to lose them to foreigners.

The problem of unemployment is not only limited to the senior PMETs but also to fresh Singaporean graduates that have been discriminated and marginalised or just unable to find employment while foreigners are in charge and foreigners could walk into Singapore and landed a permanent job like a breeze.

Anger is rising with the increasing pain faced by Singaporeans, many felt betrayed and cheated by the policies of the govt and the practices of GLCs. Temasek felt the pressure when it was revealed that its top management has a high percentage of non Singaporeans and with Indians being singled out for criticism. And now this report to explain and justify what it is doing.

To Temasek, what it is doing is the best and good for Temasek and Singapore. The Singaporeans may have different views, and the share of Singaporeans in top management is a subjective and arbitrary number. Temasek is very happy with the composition and very likely the govt too. That is its prerogative and assessment. It is a matter of judgement and values and priorities and even personal preferences of the govt and those in charge in Temasek. The people may think otherwise and want it changed.

So, what can the people do about it if the govt and Temasek think they are right and this is the best for Singapore and Singaporeans? Nothing. The people have voted the govt into power and Temasek is an arm of the govt. The people have given the power and consent to the elected govt and the govt/Temasek will think and decide for them.

If the people are not happy with what they see, just do the necessary in the next GE. This is democracy at works. The people decide what is best for themselves through the govt they elected to serve them. Sure, for the moment when the die is cast, for the last two decades, the people at best can cry and scream and thump their chests about their unhappiness. But the ball is in the court of the govt and Temasek to do what they perceived as what the people want versus what they think is good for the country and people. The govt may change some of the policies to appease the anger of the people. The govt may not and continue to do as it pleases. And looking at the explanation of Temasek, they are doing the right thing and so don't expect any changes.

So, if nothing gonna change, change can only take place in the next GE. In the meantime, just gripe and show your anger and unhappiness o be heard or else the natural aristocrats would say no one is complaining, all is well or the people have accepted their fate. That's about what the people can do for now. And comes the next GE, if the people continues to vote the same govt to rule over them, to bring in more foreigners for top jobs, then so be it.

Stupidity has no cure. And it is best the people shut up and live with their choice and their own stupidity.

Read this piece by Anna Maria Romero (local, PR or new citizen or foreigner) in the Business Times.

The issue of the foreign workforce became a focal point in Parliament last week, pointed out an editorial in The Business Times (BT) on Wednesday, September 9.

And while the piece acknowledges that there are ‘grievances’ from, Singaporeans who have been displaced by foreigners in the job market, it asserts that, at this particular time, the country must remain “open to trade, investment, and talent from the rest of the world.”

What the article said is that Covid19 more serious, forget about the problems of foreigners in Singapore. Open the legs wider and let more foreigners in? The only thing positive about the article is that finally they are willing to acknowledge that 'Singaporeans (who) have been displaced by foreigners in the job market' and no silly bugger stood up to ask for proof that this is so.

What do you think?

  1. Just take a look at the composition of Temasek's top management.

It is a fact that 48% of Temasek's top management are foreigners.

When asked, Temasek spokesman said that the rest of the company are about the same mix as the top management.

So, where does this 60/40% come from?

A picture of the top management's photo speaks a thousand words, without lies.

  3. If you check the Temasek website to see the top management photos, there are 29 personalities, including Ho Ching as the CEO.

Out of these 29 people, there are 14 foreigners, and one newly converted citizen of India origin.

So, its composition is about 50/50 Singa-Foreign.

  4. Listen people, for more than 20 years, this garment has been importing foreigners into this island, with many parts now becoming foreign enclaves and many top jobs taken over by foreigners and foreigners in charge of recruitment would discriminate against hiring Singaporeans. If you keep on voting the same garment to power you are endorsing and supporting what they are doing. If this is what you want, then stop complaining. For you are as good as saying,

    1. We support what you are doing.
    2. We agree with what you are doing.
    3. We don't mind what you are doing.
    4. We will continue to vote for you for doing what you are doing.

So, who's fault is it? Your fault or the garment's fault?

  5. The 61 % of Singapore voters are giving the PAP elitist aristocrats and their cronies a free ride for another 5 years.
Every 5 years past means an increase of 7% of new voters from new beholden citizens who are going to vote PAP forever. That's why PAP no hue to Singapore PMETS because PMETS are the ones who can challenge the PAP. That's why LHL and HSK and CCS keep scolding and insulting Singaporeans.

  6. Whose fault?
    Voters or Government?
Why fixed at only two parties?
May be there is a third party?
Most probably the third party is the Election Department?

  7. Almost everyone says a coin has two sides - front and back, or head and tail. But actually a coin has 3 sides. The third side is the one that connects the front and back.

Similarly, the Election Department is the side that connects the voters (front) and the back (government).

    Get the drift?

  8. Wither temasek? Spawned n financed by Singaporeans..can make motherhood statements on national policies? No need to adhere to rules n regulations of ministries..why? The shadow of lky lurks? There is indeed cause for concern that temasek has grown too big for its boots notwithstanding its minuscule contribution to the citizens wellbeing.. I daresay that the investments which were transferred to temasek at birth would have drawn more out of Singaporeans than it had ever contributed. Such arrogance? CECA could well have been a temasek driven initiative.. in time to come all will be revealed. Will ho ching exist beyond lhl? Doubtful!! Then we'll see whether the empress has riches or rags..I wanted to say clothes or no clothes but really..should spare the readership of so much anxiety on a Sunday morning

  9. When the Government has to bow to India under the CECA in Red Dot's home ground, what more can we expect from the Government's action in trying to keep foreigner's from dominating the ranks of it's overseas linked entities?

What they say is not what you think.

  13. To make a FTA deal with India, the most protectionist country in the world, u have to literally give them your pound of flesh, in this case the Singaporean PMETs' livelihood!

  14. The biggest blunder the PAP has done to the People and Singapore is to sign CECA with India. This is the Lee Hsien Loong legacy

  16. The Old Man's dishonourable and unfilial son burnt his body into ashes to prevent him from rising up, so that he (the the dishonourable and unfilial son) can create havoc to his (Old Man) family, to Singaporeans and to Singapore.

Now the siblings are divided all because of wanting to show off his power for all to see.

Singaporeans are losing out to foreigners by the day because of internal traitors grabbing power and money.

Singapore is going to be taken by another country, yet the idiots are still sleeping in their ivory towers feasting and counting their money and enjoying looking at their CPF Statements.

However, the bottom line still remains at the voters' stupidly - many of them are the old and middle age aunties. You can see many of them "kaypohing" at the Community Clubs and patronising and frolicking at the MP's Meet the people sessions.
