$4,500/$5,000 is a talent according to the Singapore govt

The govt has just raised the amount to qualify for Employment Pass to work in Singapore from $4,000 to $4,500 and $5,000 for financial industry.  This adjustment is due to a change in policy to go for quality instead of quantity. A foreigner earning $4,500/$5,000 is now a quality employee, a foreign talent. In terms of annual income this is at most a pathetic $67,500/$75,000, inclusive of 3 months bonus.

According to Chok Tong, anyone earning less than $500,000 annually is mediocre. But foreigners earning a miserable $67,500/$75,000 is a talent, a quality that is good enough to be called a foreign talent. Sadly many Singaporeans earning more than this but less than $500,000 are regarded as mediocre.

When a person's worth or talent is measured simply by a number, perhaps it is too simplistic. Obviously there are many people that are walking idiots or doing sweet fuck all, sweet nothing, but earning grandiose salary because of the right connection or family business. Tiok boh?

It is quite sad that a person's real worth is measured by what he earns. Many of our Ah Longs, Pimps and bookies are probably above mediocres, very talented if income is the only criteria. Same as those jiak liao bees, doing nothing but collecting millions, also very talented.

What do you think, mediocres?

PS. Got the numbers amended from $4.600 to $4.500/$5,000.

The cruelty of the PAP in forsaking Singaporeans is shameful and unforgivable. No other country pays their politicians millions to get foreigners to come in and steal the citizens’ jobs.Despicable!

      You said it 100% correct.

They even have their spouses in clerical and administrative jobs in the govt as well as many
Private sectors in many junior positions which could be taken up by Singaporeans.

  3. Foreign investment in Singapore that doesn't contribute to the employment of Singaporeans and mainly employ foreigners should not be welcomed as they occupy precious space, aggravating overcrowded conditions and use up scarce resources in the tiny city-state, such as water and medical services.

The main culprits are companies from India which have a large proportion of intra-corporate transferees and employ mainly their own kind.

  4. Got such things meh? You got statistics to prove or not? If not you can be accused of spreading rumours you know? Many MPs and even ministers also did not know about such things. They did not know that there is a Chennai Business Park and a Mumbai Financial Centre in Singapore.

  5. Think
earning 4 Thousand Sgd a month SHOULD QUALIFY ONE AS A TALENT IN SIN.
MANY IN SIN MAKE LESS THAN 3 THOUSANDS A MONTH. THEY ARE ALSO MOSTLY WORKING ON CONTRACT WITHOUT MUCH INCENTIVES AND USUALLY WITHOUT BONUS.
    Worse,
they are fired for any reasons by the Employer
    at anytime.
    As
    for Expired PM Goh Chok Tongs' Remark;
lets just say that he is not normal,
but not perverted as well for one with insatiable love for wealth, maybe his wife could be worse and feeds ego into her Man.

Gian png even accused the Maid for thefts and nearly had her in jail for years.

Also, had maid worked two or three different workplaces.

      CHOW kars!

Reports that those who earned MORE than 30K per month are MORE in debts than those earning 1.3K

  9. MOM'S Half-Measures Are No Measures

How many times has the MOM raised the basic salary qualifying limit amount for foreign talons already?

Talons are vulture's claws that snatch food from owner's arm and leave a deep blood-gushing wound behind. That's why when you feed vultures with your hands you have to wear thick leather-gloves or just throw the food far away from your good self. That is why I think it is more appropriate to call those foreign scavenging hungry greedy cunning lot as Foreign Talons instead of Foreign Talents.

Moreover, the term 'Talent' has been abused, misused and bastardised so frequently and conveniently that it has totally lost its meaning, especially in the context of Singapore's Employment Strategy and Policies.

Now, coming back to the recent action taken by MOM to increase the basic wage limit for E (Easy) Pass and S (Sucker) Pass applicants. These are what I perceive and think:

    1. The fact that those basic limits have beenrraised a few times before shows that it doesn't work. This kind of limitation is not a limitation to a cunning, street-smart, ular-brain that knows how to easily circumvent the "HUGE PROBLEM" that MOM"s simpleton, lazy-to-think, pea-brain can come out with.

    2. It also shows that MOM and the PAP Government have run out of new ideas.

    3. It is an indication that the PAP Government is so fixated and focused upon money-making that it is no more able to think out of the box any more.

    4. It also implies that the PAP Government has an unholy Ulterior Motive hidden - most probably a strategic political consideration - such as to convert foreigners to new citizens that will be beholden to vote for the PAP in any Election, giving the PAP an undue and unfair advantage to win at all costs.

    5. It clearly boils down to the unwillingness, reluctant, half-hearted, Habitual Tendency of those Free-Riding Instant Multi-Millionaires in Power (FRIMMIP) to sincerely and fully, going all out, to care for their fellow country folks. Full Stop!

    6. The PAP leaders have been FREE-RIDING on the goodness, kindness, meekness and undaunted supports of the Singaporean voters for too long, so much so they can even unrestraintly condemned Singaporeans as XIA SHUAY behind closed doors. They have been having unfetteredpower too good, too easy, too flexible that they are taking things for granted, taking Singaporeans kindness and meekness as weaknesses.

    7. Nowadays their Indian Chief even dare to openly speak out loud in the sanctity of the Parliament to condemn a section of Singapore voters as FREE RIDERS! This sickening, uncouth, unrespectful behaviour must stop! It has gone too far. It has crossed the RED LINE! It must stop. We must collectively stop it in one way or another.

    What do you think?

  10. Belittling Singaporeans As Free Riders

The Chief of PAP's Free Riders has accused Singaporean voters as Free Ridersif they voted for Opposition Parties thinking the PAP is bound to form the government.

    Mr Jamus Lim explains:

A free rider, as defined in economics, is an individual (or group) that reaps the benefits of the actions of others, without paying the cost (or underpaying for it). It is a form of market failure, and characterizes non-excludable goods (those whose use cannot be restricted).

‪In his opening address to the 14th Parliament, PM Lee spoke of a number of issues. Many points he made were thoughtful, and drew on his deep experience in government, and as Prime Minister. I appreciated his insight and candor. PM Lee also suggested (and I paraphrase) that the argument that voting for the opposition because others will still return the PAP to power is what the economist will associate with being a free rider.

In his response, LO Pritam Singh rejected this claim, pointing out that the voters in wards that voted for the WP were reflecting a genuine desire for an alternative voice, and were not free riding off anyone. He also suggested that there were aspects of politics where the WP even experienced higher costs, such as the lack of access to grassroots functions operated under the auspices of the PA/RC.

‪Setting aside the fact that the #workersparty would not have formed government even if it did win every single contested seat (and the PAP would have formed it, assuming no other opposition gains), the free rider claim is worth exploring from an economist’s view.‬

Parliament seats are excludable: when a PAP MP is elected, the opposition is necessarily prevented from accessing it. Moreover, in Aljunied, Hougang, and Sengkang, the votes were potentially costly: it required trust in our candidates, that we would be good town councilors and MPs. Yet voters were willing to do so. This does not strike me as consistent with free riding. Moreover, our sense—having spoken to voters in the aftermath—is that they did not vote tactically (for the WP, hoping that the PAP would still form government).

If anything, they overcame their fear of the untested, and voted for the WP regardless.

What is true is that they voted with their hearts, and with the conviction that some alternative voices were needed. Sure, they did so with some reassurance that the PAP would likely continue to form government. But it certainly wasn’t because they were looking for a free ride.

  11. What kind of free ride does opposition ward residents enjoy? In fact they never enjoyed the kind of kiddy rides that the PAP provided for their wards.

What kind of fear mongering argument is it that if the opposition takes over, Singapore will collapse? When the PAP took over the Government decades ago, they also started from scratch with even less talented MPs. Did we collapsed because the PAP also had to learn the ropes as they go along.

After all, in any Government, the administrative arm is always there to provide continuity, otherwise with every change of Government they have to set up a new administrative arm with new people. That is not how it works.

  13. PAP Ownself Discredits Ownself

When Lee Hsien Loong says that Singapore will collapse once other party takes over as Government, he has actually implied three things:

    1. That all the 55 years of PAP rule has been a total failure. He indirectly insinuated that his father, Goh Chock Tong and himself have not done very much to build up and develop the various institutions and organs of state so that they can continue to function effectively and efficiently no matter who takes over to govern the country.

    2. That PAP has made itself so indispensable that Singapore cannot do without it running the country. That means for all the 55 years, PAP has been very selfish and unethical, so much so it only cares about its own survival instead of the survival of Singapore.

    3. That Singapore is so short of talents because PAP has selfisly taken all of them, so much so without the talents from PAP, Singapore will collapse. This means PAP has deliberately sabotaged Singapore's and Singaporeans survivability.

Taking all the three implied meanings together, it means PAP is actually not good for Singapore and Singaporeans. So, why should PAP be allowed to continue to govern Singapore. It is therefore not in Singaporeans' interests to vote for PAP to be government any more.

I think LHL is not himself any more. His mental faculty does not seem alright. And he looks so pale even in his pink shirt. I believe he must be very sick physically and very tired mentally but still selfishly clinging on to power and refuses to step down to make room for others. This is not good for Singapore. He should follow the Japanese PM Abe to resign in the interest of and for the good of the country.

  17. The GRC System Is The Elephant In The Room Carrying The Real Free Riders In Broad Daylight

The Group Representation Constituency (GRC) system was devised by the Kiasu PAP leadership and implemented with effect from 1988, in order to allow a minority race to easily get into and be represented in the Singapore Parliament through the backdoor as a free rider, riding upon the coat-tail of a Minister and other credible incumbent MPs.

The idea was mooted by the 1st Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew in 1982. To convince the electorate he said that he was concerned that minority races such as the Malay, Indian and Others qwould eventually be underrepresented in the Parliament because the young voters of the time were not as aware of the importance of having a racially balanced line-up of MPs.

Under the Kiasu GRC system, teams fielding a GRC must include at least one member from a minority racial community - either a Malay, an Indian or Others - to give him/her a free ride.

The Kiasu GRC system has therefore been deliberately designed to enable “free riders” to get into Parliament easily, irrespective of which party got elected.

Over time, we have found out that the Kiasu GRC system does not only provide free rides for the minority communities but also for newly recruited PAP candidates from the majority Chinese community who failed to get elected on their own strength in a Single Ward Constituency, like Ong Ye Kung and Dr Koh Poh Koon.

If PM Lee is sincerely interested to stop free-riders in Singapore's political environment, he must move the motion in Parliament to totally and completely abolish the Kiasu GRC system.

The ball is now back at PM Lee's room. Please look at the huge elephant in your room.
