Covid19 -What will Singapore do next?

What will the Singapore xxxxxxxxxxxxx do next?

Lower the Code Orange to Code Yellow, remove some existing restrictions, open the floodgates to allow any Tom Dick and Harry to come to Singapore and freely distribute the corona-viruses?

Above is a comment by an anonymous blogger asking what would Singapore do next given the experience of Italy with infected cases shooting to high heavens? Now, how to answer such a question to be meaningful?  I know many people are wondering if Singapore would continue with its open leg policy to let every wildlife to come in as it means money, plenty of easy money in terms of levies and fees and also to boost up a dying economy that is struggling to stay off the recession path.

Let's look at the statistics available on the Covid19 pandemic and see if they make any good sense and can help Singapore govt to work out a sensible immigration policy that could still allow it to continue to collect easy money by allowing more wildlife to come in to provide jobs for Singaporeans. Look at the below chart provided by CNA and the countries that are most affected by the Covid19 virus.

Statistically speaking, not my personal opinion, there is a clear statement from the above chart that says Covid19 is a disease of rich countries. Look, other than Malaysia and Singapore, no SE Asian country or South Asian or African country is seriously affected, did not even deserve to be in the chart. What does this mean? The virus likes rich people, likes to go to rich countries, likes to go for cruises, likes to go to churches, to casinos, and other than China, S Korea and Japan, it has a penchant for Europeans, and this is only the beginning. More and more Europeans and Americans would be visited by the virus.

What has this got to say about Singapore's open leg immigration policy? Can one use the above statistics to say that wildlife from poor SE Asia, South Asia and Africa are safe bets and can continue to come in freely, free from Covid19 virus, or at least the chances are very slim? This looks like a piece of good news for Singapore's immigration dependent economy. Can continue to do as before, no need to stop wildlife from coming in if they are from poor countries.

What do you think? My use of statistics make sense or not?

Would our politicians use the above statistics to justify the continuation of the open leg immigration policy to grow our economy?

  1. This Virus is Heavens Send to purge the Human Beans as He, "Tee Kong Peh" is getting sick and tired of the human beans getting greedier, ruthless, mercenaries and corrupting all ManKind.

Prayed to hyroctricial White GOD that preached Those who God Loved Die Young.

So now He is purging all and sundry especially those who falls into above category to DIE young.

The Ironic is that these so called strong faiths believers are too sacred to DIE.

Whilst, they always happily proclaimed that their God Loved them and are most happy to reside early in his Kingdom.

But, in their hearts, they knew that they had committed too many sins to die now and face HIM.

    What's ironic!!!

  5. All the statistics for all the countries are fake. Not just China, North Korea or Iran.

Why? Take the US for example. How many have really been tested for the cov19? Just a tiny fraction have been tested so far, while the rest, that have some of the symptoms may be taken as the normal flu infection. And these are the one spreading the virus.

And lets talk about Indonesia and India, where so much of the country are inhabited by rural folks who have surely no access to testing. Maybe they just die of the virus outside the statistics. So, what is the real statistics?

The West claims everyday that there should be much much more cases and deaths in China and Iran. And yellow bananas in some Asian countries are echoing the same mantra.

Now the West is finding itself in the same boat as China in the initial outbreak. Much much more will come if you look at China's experience. China's infection, as reported by some sources, started as early as November, 2019 and started exploding in mid January, 2020. That is roughly two months from November. Will the situation in the West follow the same pattern?

Italy is in deep shit and some parts in lockdown. Donald Trump, forever the moron, is still nonchalant and is taking the situation in the US lightly in his speeches. But under the surface, it must be serious to have to set aside more than US$8 billion to fight the virus. You can deny, but the facts say otherwise and the people are in panic mode now.

  6. RB,

    Look at this:

"Qatar - total number of confirmed corona-virus infections is 15; has now barred travellers from 16 countries starting today (9 March), covering Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria and Thailand."

There must be good reasons for Qatar to bar travellers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Philippines and Thailand.

Also Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos and Vietnam are not reporting - either deliberately or lack of test kits to detect and confirm the corona-virus infections. That doesn't mean there are no cases or very little cases in these countries. In the death certificates, their doctors might have simply state "Cause of Death: Flu" - just like what have happened in the US.

  9. Hi Hermanisgod.

Agree, those countries did not test them do not mean there are few cases. A good example is the USA, no testing, few testing, test with flawed test kits.

Waiting for USA to explode like Italy and China.

No, bro. You are off. The way you do it is not how you're supposed to use the data to arrive at a "statistical inference".

Even if we believe the numbers to be correct, the way they seem to be interpreted HERE is extremely DANGEROUS

We are talking about Black Sawn Events characterised by:

    1. It is out of the ordinary, extremely "improbable"

    2. Has a disproportionate HIGH IMPACT which is probably unprepared for

    3. Is explained "after the fact" by untested and usually BULLSHIT narratives by humans who just "make up stories" to simply the complexity of NATURE.

Common sense alone will tell you that if/ when Covid19 arrives in Africa, they will be ROYALLY FUCKED due to several factors, most of them glaringly OBVIOUS

  15. @ 20:18 am:

"According to the statistics, Africa is the safest continent at the moment."

Africa is the worst for any widespread virus infections. Over-crowding, poor hygiene, racial bias, lack of good medical systems, slow logistics system, poor administration and corruption - all these factors, in one way or another, lead to easy spread of the viruses

Their statistics are not forthcoming because they are slow to identify and detect/report. So, it does not mean that Africa is safest.

    Antarctic is the safest.

    1. Antarctica not safest lah, in fact Mother Earth isn't safe either due to climate changes. Antarctica even Penguins population also diminishing as the ice melts & oceans fishes starts to decline due to global warming.Humans r tasting all these effects due to their own doings & it's only humans may reverse it, or else nature will juz do it's part when humans remain status quo by not doing anything to change the causes.

  16. 'Has a disproportionate High Impact which is probably UNPREPARED for' unquote.

Agreed. Whoever wanted this to happen probably did not expect the impact to be so grave, widespread, fast spreading and ironically going to come back to haunt the perpetrator, whoever he is.

Most countries are ill prepared to deal with the virus, and the lost time in not taking seriously what happened in China, and thinking it will only affect China, has also magnified the problem many times over. It is a case of Nero fiddling while Rome burns.

  18. Even the highly educated AND extremely highly paid Singapore leaders are caught unprepared, even though they can keep boasting about the SARS outbreak experience.

Every crisis has its own set of characteristics and challenges. It may seem to look similar with previous ones but its main thrust is not. Otherwise, it won't turn into a crisis.

Top Singapore leaders are naively still talking about washing hands and no need to wear a mask unless you are unwell. They are reacting piece-meal and taking it easygoing.

One idiotic, shameless, disgraceful, over-paid, ivory-tower, mouth-loose minister has got the cheek to scold and label Singaporeans as SHIA SUAY secretly behind their back until exposed by a whistleblower.

In this kind of life-and-death situation, a good leader will take full responsibility instead of trying to blame the citizens, putting them down and calling them ugly names. (I wonder how such an uncoth, unethical and underhanded character could become a military general! The Selection Process and Promotion Board must have been bias or blind.)

  19. I have just deleted Matilah's attack on Xi. I know that he has to do it as he is only paid for attacking Xi, China and the CCP. I have been watching and waiting to see how long he could stand not doing what he is paid for. Now he tried to find a different way to do it, claiming it was spoken by others, the intent being the same.

So I have to delete it to make sure he is not paid for doing what his masters want him to do.

  34. A 32-year old Singaporean studying in Florence, Italy shares his apprehension over the latest lockdown of the country that was put in place in the past week. Although he was already concerned over the news, it was only on Tuesday (March 10) when the lockdown in the town of Florence was truly enforced.

Mr James Khoo shares, “There’s a lot of anxiety going on in Florence.” He continued, “I’m very frightened about the racism against Asian people and it has been increasingly tense. I was called a ‘virus’ on the street by some (French-speaking) tourists,” explaining that he was upset over their ignorance.
