Back to the future - PMETs to become construction workers

Singapore has come a long way from Third World to First World, from working under the hot sun in the construction and labour intensive industry, in backbreaking jobs, to white collar jobs in aircon offices. We have progressed from a Third World sweat shop to a fine First World city with our people living a better life.

The new message, many have been talking about it and dreading it, is from First World to Third World. The latest, according to Zaqy Mohammad, Minister of State for National Development and Manpower, ...'The proportion of locals taking up jobs for PMETs in the (construction)sector has fallen over the past decade' ie not good. Thenewpaper reported. 'Local white collar workers appear to be shying away from the construction sector, but new polices are in the offing to lure them back.'

Is the govt trying to sell the new magic formula that working under the hot sun as construction workers is the new good thing for Singaporean PMETs? And it is ok for the foreigners to come in and replace the PMETs in the aircon offices? Our First world PMETs, many with tertiary educations from world best universities, now being replaced by Third World funny degree graduates with funny backgrounds and many with fake and suspicious degrees from funny universities.

This is the new future awaiting our PMETs that are no longer needed in our aircon offices. Out you go, to work under the hot sun and dusty environment, back to the future, to the days when your papa and mama were construction workers. Is this really a good thing? Have our million dollar ministers lost their scripts and have no answers on how to give good jobs to our PMETs after inviting hundreds of thousands of Third World funny graduates to replace them? Have they lost the plot after being paid by the millions? Is this the best solution for our PMETs while they keep bringing in more fakes and funny Third World graduates?

Thank you very much for working so hard and coming up with such a clever solution to help our PMETs. And the ladies, please learn how to put on the red square cloth hats of our Samsui women.

This is Year 2020 and more better options will be coming for our PMETs, from First World to Third World. When would all Singaporeans be asked to vacate Raffles Place and MBFC to make way for wildlife?

My above article in a way is an answer to this comment by Rafiz Hapipi in his article posted in TRE.

'As a Singaporean, I am not simply concerned about unemployment. More importantly, has underemployment of Singaporeans increased? This is the more important question.

This is an undesirable scenario especially when a Singaporean has been trained by local institutions and is deemed qualified, and yet denied an appropriate position that exists in the employment sector in Singapore because companies prefer a PR or foreigner for whatever reasons.

At the end of the day, the qualified Singaporeans have to resort to taking up stop gap measure jobs or gigs then this underemployment becomes the failure of both the MOE and MOM.'

All these underemployed PMETs or replaced and jobless PMETs could become construction workers or whatever in the construction industry that they were not train for. All their valuable education and experience would be thrown into the dustbin like waste and swill, and they need to be retrained to do new jobs. How clever. This is called optimising the use of trained white collar workers to become blue collar construction workers. Only people paid in the millions can come up with such brilliant solutions to help our PMETs.

  1. That CHEE (Bye Bye) hooefully bye bye or kicked our this coming GE said do not cause a wedge between foreign talents and Singaporeans in the employment sectors by asking what is the statistics or percentage employed on Locals and Foreigners.

We cannot disclose this as you Sinkies be shocked.
That's means you as the citizens of this Nation has no special or employment rights.

Fark you, your only rights in National Slavery to serve your National Service.

So, if daft Sinkies still vote him in. Don't know IMH got vacancies for them?

  2. 69.9% Singapore voters have asked for it in 2015.

Let's see this coming GE, how many percent of voters will again ask for it.

They say, it's like prostitution. The first time you do it, it is hard to swallow. The more times you get screwed, the easier it becomes. And after a while, you get so used to being screwed, then you begin to like it. They even asked to be screwed in every available hole!

Singapore voters are just like prostitues, no? Not so?

One of my kakis said over our regular breakfast that we should not use the term PMET when we are referring to the workforce.....

Now, the Papies felt the ground NOT so sweet and GE be in Sept and beyond.

Play SAFE or they confident that 70% daftees will still supported them?

  8. Actually all these open leg immigration policy is to replace true blue Sinkies with foreigners in all kinds of jobs, it's an invisible/invincible scheme kind of genocide of the first order! There is No Country or No Nation in this world would allow such kind of thing to happen ~ "invisible /invincible genocide" , it's much worse than the Rohingyas ( at least they got the Africans Muslims to fight for them, but Sinkies? Only One Oppie in Paliement to fight for it, that's why the ruling whites men can speak with fork tongues to Roti Prata all types of statistics to hide the real data under their own computers. Come the next election if majority Sinkies don't wake up to VTO, then it will be liow lah for the Sinkies!

  9. Actually I think there is merit in encouraging Sinkies to joint the construction industries. These refer to the supervisory and management positions in construction projects.

The industry is quite different now. There are lots of safety, environmental control, automation and use of technologies.

Walk into any construction site and you will see those white and blue helmeted (Blue for safety and white for supervisory staff) position taken by foreigners - mainland Chinese, Blangadeshi, Indians & Malaysians. I am sure sinkies can perform here.

The problem is there r many engineers & civil engineers after graduated from uni didn't wan to take up those jobs for whatever reasons ( probably due to pay or too many foreigners & employers prefer a YesSir Anything Olso Boleh kind of Engineer, see the collapse of Changi highway the foreign engineer also don't bother to counter check calculations!)

  10. @All,

Construction?!?!? Why be the meat in the property meat-grinder when you can TAKE ADVANTAGE of the cheap foreigners & the sia-lan lao-lan money-grabbing developers?!?!

Stupid sinkies & losers should invest slowly & regularly into our very own REITs listed on SGX lah .... Sure way to shiok early retirement!!!

Do you know that 90% of those 35-45 yr old Sinkies who are able to accumulate >>$1M & having >>$60K annual passive dividend income .... are due to them investing in REITs over the past 10-15 years?!?!?!

Anyway simple method to see if PAPies talk cock or are serious ---- see the salaries of the positions. If paying $10K or $20K per month .... sure Sinkies will take them.

The REALITY will be: Open competition for the lowest prices / salaries in order to maximise profits for companies & govt (e.g. HDB, MND, Temasek, GIC, DBS). Only 1% or 2% of positions paying more than $4K ... 98% will be paying "foreign worker standard".

So what for inviting hundreds of thousands of Third World funny graduates to replace Sinkie PMETs??

Our million dollar ministers like Zaqy Mohammad will still win the coming election and remain as million dollar ministers, right?

    2:10 pm

Not all Sg voters truly have a better life now lah, but I would say most of them.

And that's one key reason why PAP could get majority votes every election.

  14. PAP's population target is 10 million citizens.
Foreigners will not become new citizens unless they have a good job in Singapore.

    SOLUTION:
    - Sack the Singaporean and give the good job to a foreigner so that he will become a new citizen.

    ///PAPies got 59.9% votes deny of a 2/3 majority in parliement///

Shows that you don't know how the political system works.

Important thing is number of MP seats won, not so much overall percentage of votes. PAP can get just 52% votes but still retain 2/3 majority or even 100% in parliament.

Please lah, for Sinkies, even if they are trained in it, will not want these type of jobs for the kind of pay they will be getting.

And the construction boss can also easily find foreigners to do these jobs for the kind of pay they will be getting.

So how to expect Sinkies in supervisory and management positions in construction projects, u tell me lah?

  19. And the construction boss can also easily find foreigners to do these jobs for the kind of pay they will be getting.
    4:06 pm

U are right. Construction project is no rocket science. That's why u can see beautiful modern buildings in every city in the world. So it is very easy to find foreigners to do these jobs even in supervisory and management positions and at low pay.

Sinkie PMETS would rather prefer to be GRAB drivers than to be doing such jobs at such pay.

Unless of course PAP stop foreigners from coming to work in Sinkieland lah. LOL

Should be >>> 66.6% of seats or maybe 66% to be on the safe side.

    1. Hello, don't take it too hard lah, one need to expect the unexpected for the next election, probably 59.9% of Papies parliamentary seats is on the low side, 66.6% is a conservative approach, 75% (some speculated here) is too opptimistic lah.

  21. @ all

@1229 is right: Open market competition means you can only command a market PRICE for your skills and labour commensurate with your ability to produce market VALUE for the boss and the enterprise who will be paying you.

You cannot expect to earn $4k if you can only bring less than that to the table...someone else (say, they can produce $4.5k or more) will get the $4k job.

In other words you need to be worth MORE if you expect to earn more. This is just reality lah.

Top-line growth comes from growing your business by getting more customers to spend more money. Bottom line growth is by cutting costs of doing business....and cutting labour costs seems to be the first thing they do.

Another reality: Business runs by SPREADSHEET and MODELS now. They don't take into account human feelings, sense of security etc. Spreadsheets and models only deal with HARD NUMBERS; completely devoid of any "humanity" or consideration for individuals' sense of self and purpose. (the things which are first to fail when DEPRESSION sets in).

To work in a modern corporation is mostly soul-destroying, mind-numbing experience...so it requires a certain "no-bullshit mindset", to do the job well, increase your salary, save and invest and don't blow all your money on EGO-DRIVEN STUPIDITY❇️...then when the time is right and you've accumulated sufficient resources to be "financially free", FIRE YOUR BOSS.

Our present culture is based on insane consumerism: must have this, right now ...and in a short time it's decreased in value and lost its allure. Self-denial/ self-sacrifice is indeed becoming rarer and harder to do as we are BOMBARDED with messages to buy, buy, buy...our sleep-deprived brains addicted to that DOPAMINE BURST so whatever "willpower" is left becomes will-powerLESS.

❇️Ego-driven Stupidity: Accumulating stuff you DON'T NEED, with money you CAN'T AFFORD to spend, trying to impress people you DON'T LIKE. You'd be surprised how this drives the crazy consumer-crazy culture like Singapore.
