SEA Games - Only 3 bronze medals. Asia Masters 16 golds, 12 silvers and 14 bronzes

'NEW CLARK CITY, Philippines: The lack of "stable governance" within the athletics fraternity has cost its athletes, said Singapore Sports Institute’s (SSI) head of high performance and athlete life Richard Gordon, following the sport’s poor outing at the 30th SEA Games.
“We’ve seen a decline in results over the past three SEA Games. We’ve done a lot of work behind the scenes in terms of trying to help (them) to stabilise,” said Mr Gordon at a wrap-up press conference on Wednesday (Dec 11)....

Singapore’s athletics contingent did not win a gold or silver at this year's Games. It bagged three bronze - two courtesy of Shanti Pereira in the 100m and 200m finals and one from Nur Izlyn Zaini in the 100m hurdles.'

The above is quoted in CNA. Singapore's athletes performed miserably in the recent SEA Games held in Manila, without a gold or silver medal. In another report by CNA, 'Team Singapore will send its biggest away contingent to the SEA Games this year, with 647 athletes from 48 sports, the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) announced Thursday (Aug 1).'

I am not sure how many of the 647 athletes are in track and field events but the number must be quite substantial and the amount spent as well. In contrast, Singapore masters athletes competed in the 21st Asia Masters Athletics Championship in Kuching, Sarawak, about the same time and came back with 16 golds, 12 silvers and 14 bronze medals from a contingent of slightly more than 100 athletes.

And mind you, the masters athletes went there to compete, to represent Singapore, to fly the Singapore flag, without getting a single cent from the govt in subsidies. They paid for their own training, with coaches providing free services and advises, and they paid for their registration fees, hotels and air tickets and all expenses. The masters athletes self financed their participation in an international event, to represent their country and flying the Singapore flag in glory, from their very own pockets.

No one can claim this as money well spent but the masters athletes. When would the govt show its appreciation and support for the masters athletes for bringing fame and recognition to Singapore? In this particular event, the masters athletes did not even have track suits or running apparels issued by the state. They have to used old track suits and running apparels. Some have to borrow old track suits from other athletes just to take part in the march past during the opening and closing ceremonies to show that they are from Singapore.

Would the govt think it is better to divert some funds to support the masters athletes for their effort and the golds, silvers and bronzes they brought home in the name of Singapore than to spend millions on the athletes that could not even bring in a single gold or silver medal from the SEA Games after spending millions on them?

The next big masters event is in July 2020 in Toronto, Canada, the World Masters Athletics Championship. Would there be any funds from the govt to support this event and the masters athletes participating? Or would the masters athletes still be footing their own bills and paying for their own track suits with the word Singapore proudly embolden on them? Would the govt think it is more rewarding and better returns for the money spent, to support the masters athletes?

Supporting the masters athletes is value for money. Also to make good all the talks about appreciating the senior citizens, to stay healthy and active in the golden age. The least that the govt could do is to support the masters athletes at the same level as para athletes. Is this too much to ask?

    Maybe u r still sleeping.
There is no ministry of sports in Sinkieland lah, so to ask them to support anything on Masters Athletes or watever sporting events is a lost cause. The G already lost hope or too paiseh of sporting achievements in the international area ( as most r foreigners) , they even had a new rendition of the slow down crying like National anthem, so wat does it tell? All these G support of Sports r only controlling of the Ah Long San's budget & wayang of a sporting culture in Sinkieland lah. So to ask the minister or G to support any sporting culture , they wud juz check about the costs and costs of their votes & that's zit, sports to them r all wayang wayang , wayang kulit lah.

  2. So what even when all the Masters Athletes all win gold medals. It will not make the govt invite u all to parliament to wear ur gold medals. They prefer Olympic Gold Medals as it's rare ( also the competition is ageless, even disabled also can, however Paralympic or Masters tat has classification of age & abilities level, Olympic is not therefore its weightage given by countries of all govt is huge & bring in pride of their nation!). So do you think the Sinkies govt care about this Master events? They wud juz cast it aside like tissue paper medal lah (sori me a bit heartless here).

  4. @ RB

Your "theories" highlight the fact that humans (like you) are subjected to delusions of their minds...which "make up stories" to APPEAR TO CONFIRM their BIASED beliefs. i.e. your brain has succeeded in fooling itself and successfully convinced itself that it is "correct".😂

It's a matter of distribution lah. The "success" of The Masters follows a power law distribution. The Masters who swooped the medals are the top FIT older people....i.e. most of their peers are sedentary, suffering health issues or barely clinging to life, just waiting for Their Lorry to arrive.⚰️☠️.

Most of the Masters are "blessed" genetically---according to the numbers (depending on which study you pick)your destiny is determined by: 50% genetics, 30% lifestyle and 20% pure dumb luck.

So let's say that The Masters are more-or-less the "winners" in the genetic lottery having "good genes", plus they chose to live correctly and TRAIN together seriously.

This causes the expression the long-tailed "power law"....most of the winners are concentrated at the top with a long tail of very average or poor performing old farts.

Singapore has one to THE HIGHEST numbers for longevity. Therefore you will get, as a percentage of population significantly MORE old fuckers who are KICKING ARSE.💪🍻🍻

OTOH, the SEA Games has huge contingents of more-or-less equally matched athletes. Although they are "elite" and "young", when you compare their performance you get a normal distribution...since they are equally matched most will fall in the middle of the Bell Curve, and the few that win medals will be in the "fat tails" or be complete outliers (data points outside the curve).

Admitedly, maths is tedious and boring.

What is more interesting is to observe (in amazement!) how the "normal" human mind works...like yours...deluding itself and coming out with TC & SS "stories", so that these deluded minds can invent some sort of "contest". In this case it is SEA Games vs Masters athletes.

Of course lah, RB's brain is BIASED toward The Masters...so it must find "evidence" that The Masters in some way "outperforms" the SEA Games...using the medal tallies as OBJECTIVE-BASED PROXIES as a measure of "success". 😂🤪🤟🍻🍻

Delusional and mostly pointless TCSS is far more "entertaining" than cold-factual math!👍👍

  5. What bias are you talking about? There were 28 countries participating in the masters, including China, India, Japan and Indonesia. India sent in more than 400 athletes in the masters. These few countries have millions of aged people compare to our miserable few hundred thousand PG n MG.

SEA Games only 10 or 11 countries participating, without China, India n Japan.

You know how to count or not?

In order to have support of the PAPies govt in ur sports. What u all need is to attempt on the Olympics, even if u all didn't win any medals also can, at least some attempt, this wud make the govt know of the sporting spirit that seniors really have, in any sports in the Olympic games, important thing is to win a medal, the likelihood of making the govt supporting the senior in this will be high. If u all continue for these Masters Athletes competition on & on (its waste of time & own monies, not wise at all), to the G they wud think it's your own gratification or self-glorification nothing to do with the nation sports at all! So wake up lah!

  11. Another Sign Singapore's Leadership Quality Is On The Decline

In Aug this year, Education Minister Ong Ye Kung made a shocking revelation in Parliament that his Ministry spends about a whopping $238 Million a year of Taxpayers for free scholarship grants to Foreigners, in responding to a question by Workers’ Party’s Non-constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Leon Perera, who asked about the Government’s spending on foreign students.

    https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/moe-spends-s238-million-yearly-scholarships-and-tuition-grants-foreign-students

In December this year, many are expecting the arrival of Santa Claus during Chirstmas Time. Two batches of India Indians are arriving as FREE-LOADERS under Scholarships, using taxpayers' money, with the explicit invitation of the Singapore LHL Government, through the Millionaire Minister Ong Yes Koon.

These FREE-LOADERS have been chosen via a purposeful-sent team of experts from MOE to India, staying at 5-stars hotel, to interview and entice them with huge monetary carrots and perks of daily pocket money and private tuition and free dormitory lodging for 4 years -

total cost for each of these 200 foreign children (13-15 years old) per year is not less than $25,000.

They will start in Secondary 3 and proceed to Junior college.

They are helped by mentors, private tutors, and home adoptions. All arranged and paid for by MOE using taxpayers' money. (Approved by PM LHL probably?)

YET MOE's SHAMEFULLY SHAMELESSLY SHAMEFUL LONG-STANDING PRACTICE IS TO SHAME OUR PRIMARY SIX 12-year-old pupil publicly, just because her parents are financially incapacitated for two years to pay for a mere $156 of arrears of MISCELLANEOUS FEE!

OK ... To put it in simple terms that LOSERS on this blog understand:-

1 Olympic gold medal is worth more than 1,000,000 SEA Games gold medals .... or 1,000,000,000,000 Masters gold medals.

Instinctively most humans KNOW THIS .... that's why when you talk to people on the streets they will naturally pick the Olympic medal over SEA Games medal or whatever primary school-versus-school medal.

It's only when your OWN EGO is at stake or involved, then your BIASNESS takes over ... and LOGIC & RATIONALITY is flushed down the toilet.
