DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez signed Department Administrative Order (DAO) No. 19-09, Series of 2019 on Friday, June 21. The order specifies that “signages, billboards, advertisements, brochures, flyers, notices, advisories, labels, price tags/lists, menus, receipts, and other business marketing materials” in a foreign language must be translated....
The order comes after the
discovery of China Food City, a food park in Las Piรฑas City that caters
to mostly Chinese customers. The DTI conducted a surprise inspection
there last month and found that all the 33 stalls in the food park had
signages, price lists, and receipts that were only in Chinese
characters.
The above is posted in Yahoo News. The Pinoys have pride in their own language and culture. They would not trade them for money just because most of the tourists came from China. This is a departure from countries that would woo tourists, especially rich Communist Chinese tourists that have a lot of money to throw, making poor Capitalist tourists looking like paupers. The days of laughing at poor Communists are over as European cities, including some in the US have put up signs in Chinese to make things easier for the affluent Communists.
Would Singapore put up similar signs like the Philippines, oops, not English or Filipino but English and Singlish only, or English only? See, many bananas and non Chinese cannot tahan the Communist Chinese speaking Chinese here. Would they be encouraged by our pro western policies and Anglophiles to demand that all signages and signs be in English only?
Wait a minute, after living here for so many decades, while my memory is fading, but still with some memories of the past, I can faintly remember that we have 4 official languages and Chinese aka Mandarin is one of them. Can you people help me to confirm this?
Nowadays nobody seems to remember this historical and constitutional fact and simply and conveniently ignored the status of Mandarin as an official language. Anyone speaking Mandarin is scorned upon, despised and humiliated in public by these people that refused to accept and recognise Mandarin as one of our official languages. You must speak to them in English only or else they would tarok you chiat lat chiat lat and shame the Mandarin speaker in pubic. To them speaking Mandarin is almost a crime in Singapore, not allowed, not to be tolerated! It is disgusting!
So, what do you think? Would Singapore one day be like the Philippines, with govt issuing orders like English or Singlish Only or English Only? How about a new campaign like Speak English Only?
Rb Long time ago, my default first language was English whenever I speak to people in thre tail outlets but 20 years ago I used mandarin and it comes naturally too. Those yellow banana like one anon said, need to be sodomized to wake up lar that they are not white and will never be accepted as white in the white country. May be can be accepted in sinkie land only.๐๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
ReplyDeleteWho are those always complaining grievously that PRCs in Singapore only speak Mandarin, an official Singapore language ??
ReplyDeleteUsually such complaint cases are highlighted at http://theindependent.sg/ run by Workers'Party's u-know-what . . .
Be Aware Of Subtle Anti-Chinese Movement At Play
ReplyDeleteThere is a subtle racist campaign and movement against all things Chinese, be it China Chinese, HK Chinese, Indonesian Chinese, Malaysian Chinese, Philippines Chinese, Singapore Chinese or Taiwan Chinese.
This campaign/movement was started by the Whitemen Supremacists of the Evil US Hegemonic Empire. As a result, it later spread to other countries like Australia, New Zealand, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, UK, Vietnam and even in Singapore, which ironically is a Chinese dominated country.
That means most of the Singapore Chinese have lost their pride of being Chinese and forsaken their ancestors and their roots. That's why they stupidly allowed other minority races, especially Indians, to walk and step over and above their heads. This is likely due to the fact that most of the Singapore Chinese at leadership positions are western-educated and western-oriented, and they have been brain-washed to look down on China and the Chinese Race as a people. That's why the leaders kept emphasizing on Multi-Racialism.
I wonder why they are so afraid of being seen as Chinese by China, or the Western Powers? It is tragic and really shameful for such self-humiliation. Perhaps too much western-education have made them lost their common sense?
Self-destruction as a people is the worst of the worst in all human endeavours.
With the rise of China and Chinese Civilisation, it would give those with Chinese ancestry and roots a reason to reassess themselves and to eventually embrace the culture that they have abandoned, thought to be low grade and inferior for the last 150 years.
ReplyDeleteThe pride of being Chinese in China is spreading across to Taiwan and across SE Asia and the rest of the world. Only the dull and stupid overseas Chinese cannot see this Chinese wave that is turning into a tsunami. It is only a matter of time, regardless of how thick is their numbskull, to realise this phenomenon and to be proud of their ethnicity and culture once China becomes the eminent country in the world stage.
How about a new campaign like Speak English Only?
ReplyDeleteRB
Aiyo RB, nowadays where got need campaign one?
If 'Speak English Only' can help a Sinkie to make lots of money, of course Sinkies will die die learn to speak English lah.
Even my PRC colleagues who are PR or new citizen can now speak very good English, u know. They realised they have to, in order to keep their job and to make more money in their job.
So what campaign u talking?
...to be proud of their ethnicity and culture once China becomes the eminent country in the world stage.
ReplyDeleteRB 10:28 am
China is eminent in consumer product, construction and infrastucture building lah.
If not, why the world is using Microsoft, Google, Facebook etc and not China or even India software products?
Why commercial jetliners come only from America and some European countries?
Why China aircraft carrier never want to come to Changi Naval Base? I think PAP will welcome them if they come.
Why SAF dare not get cheaper China or even Russian fighter jets?
Why English is international language and USD is international currency?
In fact I think China does not want their RMB to be international currency.
Even Xi Jinping, just like Hsien Loong, sent his children to Harvard for further education, u know.
If u want to make money in China, Taiwan or even Hong Kong, then learn Chinese well lah. Nothing to do with Chinese ancestry or not.
Even Xi Jinping, just like Hsien Loong, sent his children to Harvard for further education, u know.
ReplyDelete11:16 am
Correction. Hsien Loong's son was sent to MIT, another prestigious US university, not Harvard.
With the rise of China and Chinese Civilisation, it would give those with Chinese ancestry and roots a reason to reassess themselves and to eventually embrace the culture that they have abandoned, thought to be low grade and inferior for the last 150 years.
ReplyDeleteRB 10:28 am
Why Uncle RB (of Chinese ancestry, I suppose) don't blog in Chinese har? Or maybe he is Peranakan?
If not fluent, he can always learn what, especially when he was much younger.
He should learn from Sinkie politician Goh Meng Seng, whose FB has postings in English and Chinese. But still lose big in GE and getting less than 30% votes.
DPM Tharman does not speak Chinese but he is the most popular choice with Sinkies (netizens) to be the future PM.
Maybe that's why Uncle RB was wondering what's the point of being good and blogging in Chinese?
Rb, please forgive this silly banana's rubbish talk. He still thinks he is angmoh kia or chap cheng kia.
ReplyDeleteThere are only about 1.4+ million Chinese in the Philippines, probably the least among the ASEAN countries, with the biggest being in Thailand.
ReplyDeleteOverall, only about 50+ million Chinese live outside of mainland China, mostly in Taiwan, Hong Kong and SEA. This is quite surprising.
China, I am sure wouldn't even want to comment on what the Philippine does. After all this has already been the norm in Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam where even names are in the local context. It makes little difference to the dominance of the Chinese in the economic landscape of those countries.
What is important is that Chinese language and culture should be preserved on the mainland itself. And speaking of language, there are so many variants of the Chinese language itself on the mainland, although the written version is still the same. Of course there is now the 'Pinyin' version adopted by some overseas Chinese.
12.03pm anon, I agreed with you that dude sibei kualan. I think he should be sodomized, don't u think so? ๐
ReplyDeleteOverall, only about 50+ million Chinese live outside of mainland China, mostly in Taiwan, Hong Kong and SEA. This is quite surprising.
ReplyDelete12:10 pm
What so surprising? That is about 3.8% of China's population of 1.386 billion.
Even for Sinkies, only about 214,700 of them live outside of Singapore, which is about 4% of the current Sinkie population of 5.6 million. Surprising also?
Surprising because everywhere on MSM they say China is under communism, so difficult to live in, stifling, a dictatorship and yet only 3.8% lives outside China. Why didn't more Chinese leave?
ReplyDeleteNow, outside of the 3.8%, about half of that are in Taiwan, not be choice but by circumstances. And about another 7 million already in Hong Kong, which is part of China, before British rule.
Why didn't more Chinese leave?
ReplyDelete1:39 pm
Maybe for the same reasons why didn't more Sinkies leave Sinkieland?
The National Language of Sinkieland is Malay, the working language is English, the mother tongue is base on ethnic racial group ( eg. Chinese in Mandarin excluding dialects, Indian - Tamil but in recent case Hindi, Pinoy is Tagalog, Peranakan Chinese is Malay, Indian Muslim is Malay etc). But the National language might change ond day to Mandarin or Hindi or "chap cheng" when it becomd Chinapore, or Indiapura, or Rojakpura, this is not craved in stone or concrete.

ReplyDeleteEvil US Hegemonic Empire's President Dotard Trump has shared a symbolic handshake with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in the heavily fortified zone dividing the two Koreas.
Trump became the first sitting US president to cross into North Korea after meeting Mr Kim at the demilitarised zone (DMZ).
Some people have dismissed it as pure political theatre, but others say it could set the scene for future talks.
Their last summit ended abruptly with no progress on denuclearisation talks.
Speaking to reporters alongside Mr Kim at the DMZ, Trump said it was a "truly historic" moment and that he was "proud to step over the line" between the Koreas.
Kim, on the other hand, said it is symbolic and that he has a very good relationship with Trump.
Monkey tricks managed to catch the monkey alright.
The next summit will also be historic for Trump.
ReplyDeleteFor Kim, it will just be symbolic.
More love letters between them, if Trump gets elected again, but nothing changes. Only inflated ego for Trump going into 2020. And more bragging rights to fool his supporters.
All are imported languages. The most important is see people say people languages, see ghost say ghost languages. One must stay adaptable.
ReplyDeleteTrump and Xi are good friends lah. They put on a good show. One day Xi will turn china into a christian country. Thats the plan. Remember Hong Xiuquan and Sun Wen? They both failed but Xi will succeed.
ReplyDeleteBy now the whole world knows that DJ Trump is a shameless con-man.
ReplyDeleteSigns Of Recession On The Horizon
ReplyDeleteWhile economic fundamentals and the bond market are screaming recession but the stock market still keep charging, rising to almost the 3000 level (S&P500). What does this tell us?
1. Someone or some governments somewhere is / are manipulating the stock market.
2. Stocks buyers are unable to think clearly because of greed and bad influence (from fake news providers).
3. Over-confidence caused by the prolonged bull-run has given stock traders and investors a false sense of well-being.
Such conflicting circumstances indicate that something is not right. When recession hits, many people will be caught with pants down. This is going to snowball and pull the economy even further down the slippery slope than would have been.
So, what must we do in order not to be caught by surprise?
@Anon
ReplyDelete///While economic fundamentals and the bond market are screaming recession but the stock market still keep charging, rising to almost the 3000 level (S&P500)///
Hahaha!!!
Both econ data & bond markets are pointing to a slowdown, not a major recession or crash.
E.g. Junk bonds versus long-term US treasuries
Even if there's a recession, it'll be a shallow one --- similar to 1990.
The most important part of the US yield curve has NOT inverted yet.
The part that has inverted (3s10s) that has every pseudo analyst & economist screaming their heads off in order to gain publicity stunts in the news and on Wall St --- has a history of being very early to the point of almost being false positives.
