'UOB fit' or foreigner fit

Not Asian, so no job? No proof UOB discriminated against London banker, but there was unfair dismissal
A former senior officer with the United Overseas Bank (UOB) who accused the bank of denying him a new job because he is not Asian has lost a racial discrimination claim at a London employment tribunal.
The above is reported in Today online. Can you believe this angmoh has the audacity to sue UOB for dismissal on the ground of him being non Asian? Did he believe that Singapore is still a British colony and angmoh tua kee, that he could walk around thinking he was 10 foot tall because he was an angmoh?
Asian companies, particularly Singapore companies, must take note of this risk of being spuriously sued by angmohs and foreigners for providing jobs when they could not find jobs in their home countries. Singapore companies do not owe these foreigners any duty or obligation to solve their unemployment problem and should not be unduly stressed by employing them and to be treated exceptionally because they are foreigners.
Why risk having such silly problems when they could hire Singaporeans and provide jobs for Singaporeans and take care of Singaporeans? Hope UOB and other Singaporean companies learn from this episode and avoid and reduce their employment of foreigners. Foreigners are not really tua kee. Most of them are rejects from their countries, could not find employment in their own countries, so have to run away to this corner of the world to look for jobs. There is no need to bend backwards to hire these wildlife.
The wildlife think they are special and Singaporeans are stupid, Singapore owes them a living. And they think they can come here to beat up daft Singaporeans as and when they like.
Who is creating this wildlife problem in Singapore? Who is putting the safety of Singaporeans at risk? The day when Singaporeans walk the streets in fear of wildlife would be the day Singaporeans lose their country.

We know. We know. We know lah! Enough is enough! Curiously, were you one of the 70%?

    RB

RB, u may be right lah.

But then hor, these rejects may also be the best and only available to PAP or UOB mah, I mean when they were first recruited lah.

So PAP or UOB still have to take what. Not taking is also not an option, u know.

If u are starving and dying, even stale food still have to eat what, if that is what is best and only food available, correct or not?

So taking these rejects is still the lesser evil as compared to not taking any at all lah.

Hope u understand. If u become Prime Minister, maybe u will also have to take the rejects too or else all Sinkies will suffer. At least only some Sinkies suffer like now, so it is OK for PAP.

    10:23 am

Luckily only a minority, maybe less than 30% suffer, or else PAP would have already been voted out in GE 2015, let alone winning 70% votes.

So PAP knows what they are doing, even if some Sinkies suffer, and suffer badly, due to money no enough.

In Sinkieland, got lots of money, every problem, big and small will be solved or at least mitigated, correct or not?

So be smart and get lots of money to solve or mitigate your problems lah.

    RB

    RB, be realistic lah.

Surely u cannot expect 100% of foreign talents to be good what. Sure got some wildlife lah but they are a minority.

Also cannot expect 100% of Sinkies to have enough money not to suffer what. Sure got some suffer money no enough lah but they are a minority.

RB, u need to look at the big overall picture to understand PAP and why PAP keep winning despite some Sinkies suffer or their safety at risk from wildlife.

Ehh don't twist the story lah. This is UOB office in London. They hired a foreigner "Asian" for a higher level position instead of promoting an existing local working there & later terminated him.

It's similar to if HSBC in SG hires an angmoh for a senior position, while firing an existing S'porean employee.

The courts determined there's no discrimination, likely becoz UOB was able to prove that the newly hired was more capable. However the courts determined that UOB unfairly fired him & so will need to compensate him appropriately.

As for angmohs who kena fired from banks here in Singapore, there were 2 quite high profile cases where they sued their former bank employers in S'pore High Court & won multi-million dollar compensations.

    @ RB:

"Who is creating this wildlife problem in Singapore? Who is putting the safety of Singaporeans at risk? The day when Singaporeans walk the streets in fear of wildlife would be the day Singaporeans lose their country."

Q1: Who is creating this wildlife problem in Singapore?

Answer to Q1: The 69.9% voters who voted PAP.

Q2: Who is putting the safety of Singaporeans at risk?

Anzwer to Q2: The 69.9% of voters who voted PAP.

Q3: The day when Singaporeans walk the streets in fear of wildlife would be the day Singaporeans lose their country.

Answer to Q3 has 2 parts:

    (1) Singaporeans already lost their country when GCT opened the floodgate legs wide wide for easy levies per foreign wildlife, in orrder to increase the GDP, so as to support the increase of Ministers' salary and bonuses by the $millions.

    (2) The day the 69.9% stop voting for the PAP would be the day Singaporeans get back their country. Now Singapore belongs to the elites in the PAP.

  13. Read this first, before you think the scavengers and parasites coming to scrounge for jobs are talents.

"The Times of India on March 30 published an article saying though India has more schools than China, its quality of school education is far poor than China's.

The report quotes a recently completed survey released by the NITI Aayog that despite a population similar in size, India has 1.5 million primary and middle schools, while China has only about 500,000.

Yet nearly 400,000 schools in India have fewer than 50 students each and a maximum of two teachers. The country's primary and secondary education system suffers a shortage of 1 million teachers. The report attributes the poor quality of education in India to the lack of teachers.

According to the data of China's Ministry of Education, in 2016 there were 230,000 primary and junior middle schools and 24,700 senior middle schools and secondary vocational schools in the country, totaling nearly 260,000. Together with universities and colleges, the number can reach the 500,000 mentioned in the Indian newspaper report.

It can be seen that the actual number of primary and secondary schools in China is just about 17 percent of that in India. But China has more teachers than its southern neighbor.

According to UNESCO data, the teacher-to-student ratio in China is roughly 1:23.65, also the global average, whereas India's is 1:35.22.

India does suffer a severe shortage of teachers (mostly ran abroad to better places like Singapore and USA). This makes it impossible for almost half of fifth-grade students to be able to read second-grade textbooks. Despite of a 97 percent enrolment rate in junior schools, only 30 percent completed the 12th grade. It is related to the extremely uneven distribution of teachers mentioned in the report. There is a severe shortage of teachers at schools in rural and remote areas.

The report grasps the key to the development gap between India and China. Behind all the problems that hinder India's development - poor quality of labor force and high rate of illiteracy among women - is the poor quality of education."

“Let us never forget that we only have a toe-hold in Parliament when we consider the margin of the result in Aljunied......The risk of a wipe-out with no elected opposition represented by the Workers’ Party is a real one.”
    WP Secretary General Pritam Singh

So if WP really kena wipe-out as feared by Pritam Singh, then maybe it will be 74.9% votes for PAP next GE lah. LOL

What do u think? Or what does uncle RB think? Possible or not? Laughing matter or not?

Who cares whether poor quality of education hinder India's development or not?

U (if u r true blue Sinkie) should ask why despite the poor quality of education, so many foreign talents from India r working in Sinkieland's IT sector.

This should be what really matters and of serious concern to true blue Sinkies.

No lah uncle. Despite all the complaints against the judiciary, we have to respect the openness of our legal system: anyone can sue anyone for any reason --- let the courts decide. Justice has to "stop" somewhere and under the Rule Of Law the courts' decisions are FINAL.

Let his matsaleh sue lah. See what happens. Is there racial discrimination in this case? Who knows> Let it play out in court, everything out in the OPEN.

IMO private enterprises should be allowed to hire and fire for their own reasons which they are not obliged to reveal. That is congruent with the meaning of PRIVATE --- I don't have to reveal Jack Schitt to you or anyone if I choose not to. If UOB wants to only hire Asians or Martians or people from Atlantis or cats and dogs to run their company, that is their prerogative. But I am not The Law, so this opinion doesn't count in reality. It is just my opinion, amongs the billions of opinions on the net.

  19. Yes, Singapore must sign CECA with every country in the whole wide world, not just with India. This is free enterprise, for everyone, not just for one country.

When is Singapore going to sign CECA with China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, Bamgladesh, Myanmar......the USA, UK, Africa?

  22. @ 432

CECA is not free enterprise. It is a govt to govt quid pro quo : you give us your workers, we invest in your companies.

Real free enterprise is when the govt is completely "hands off" in any private enterprise, as long as they pay taxes, don't defraud, and obey the laws.

The old Singapore under the Brits and early days of PAP was really laissez faire, free enterprise. As long as you had money, anyone can come to Singapore to start business and employ whomever they like. Just apply work permit, put up bond/ surety, and the govt leaves you alone to make as much money as you like.

Just to amuse your fixation, next GE PAP wiil get between 55% to 75%, depending on how the daft voters are sleeping. If the majority of them got bad dreams, PAP may get around 55%. If they get good wet dreams, PAP may get around 75%.

    Happy now?

The arabs & muslims hate the US and the West. They also hate China, Burma & other non-muslims in general.

US is not "friend friend" with arabs or muslims or middle east. US partners with certain high-value parties e.g. saudi royal family, UAE and Qatar sheikhs etc. It's a very simple partnership --- US wants oil (although they are less dependent now), and those high-value muslims want $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and access to global finance & oil markets.
