Singapore's failed systems

Top of the list is the broken CPF system where the people saved as much as 37% of their monthly income, at one time 50%, but cannot afford to retire. And everyone pretending not to see the cause of the disappearing money from the savers and the system is now tweaked for the people to save into their retirement fund for as long as they live even if they are 100 years old. And the perception is that it is easy to put in but very difficult to take out because they alleged that all Singaporeans, Ah Kongs and Ah Mahs would want to splurge their money in Batam and Bintang for sex tours. As they said, a white lie, told long enough, some people would believe in it. In this island of daft, all would believe in it to the extent that many daft resigned to the fate that their CPF savings are no longer their money.

The Home Ownership system where the people were told that they were owners of 99 year lease public housing and that the value of their flats would only go up, an asset for retirement. Now every one of the believers is in shock that it was a big lie. They are not owners but tenants on 99 year lease and the value of the flats would become zero at the end of the lease. There go their assets in smokes.

This is not all. They used to build enough flats that the waiting time was only a few months until some ass, probably wanted to create the impression of very high demand to drive up prices with less supply turned getting a flat a nightmare, having to wait for years. And they still think this is the right thing to do when housing is a basic need and public housing is to serve this purpose.

The Education system is also a failure as the country could not produce talent and needs to replace the locals with third world talents from cheap village universities and graduates from degree mills or with fake degrees. The situation is so bad that ministers even tell the people not to waste time with university education in one of the most expensive education system that ended up with degrees that cannot be eaten or to find decent jobs.

The public transport system, the MRT, once the pride of the nation, now struggling to pass a day without breakdowns. And yes, it got so bad that they have to look for foreigners working in poor and badly run train systems to work here and to help to maintain the broken down system.

The snail pace of the SMRT can only be matched by the really snail pace of the postal service when mails used to arrive in a day or two now could take weeks, months or not arriving at all.My credit card was sent on 2 Feb and still has yet to arrive, probably lost or in the rubbish bin.

The shipping system, once the life line of the country, now sold to foreign owners. Singapore, one of the largest port in the world, now does not own a shipping line and at the mercy of ship operators that can divert their ships away from Singapore port.

The stock market that once was a thriving market providing employment for tens of thousands of people is now dying and waiting to meet its makers.

And there is the very wasteful car population scheme that killed cars that are 10 years old and still in good running condition.

Dunno what to say about the Ministry of Health. People say can die but cannot fall sick as they will die of shock after seeing the medical bills. And the frequent breaches of health security including protection of health records and personal data.

Sovereign funds that brag about making millions and millions but not showing its accounts and leaving the people in doubt as to its real performance, only told to believe in the profit numbers they claimed to have achieved. Are they broken and also failed systems? Cannot tell, no need to tell, trust them.

Compulsory health insurance schemes that collected millions and billions but paying peanuts when needed.

Finally, not the least, a bankrupt political system that pays millions to politicians but getting only mediocre quality candidates and mediocre performance. The only thing good about the political system is that it makes every politician rich and millionaires.

Thought YEW have nothing but lavish praise for Botaknomics' "TLLM" (Teach Less Learn More)?

And that the "founder" of this (failed) TLLM (system) is the obvious and default choice with pedigree so good it is so wasteful to bypass as the next PM?

    What happened now?

    What?

The "TLLM" pedagogy screwed up the education system? (And the future of one whole generation of young sinkies?)

  2. Lagi worse, Sinkieland failed Stop At 2 policy or failed procreation policies. Increase costs of living couples don't wanto give births due to costs & other factors resulting in FTrashes importation & humans genocide here. No policies going to work till the root cause is found or the g already given up hope to procreation and it's cheap to outsource & imports.

  3. Ah Heng said they are not slack.
    Just lepak.
Will put things whatsoever they take as GE is near.

Postal, now guarantee you will receive your Registered Parcels or Mails. Postmen now got incentive as commission for door doors deliveries.

But you all must pay the price. We charged extra for this service. On top of that we make extras.

Four year old vehicles inspections until scrap. Above 10 year twice a year. Matland and Batam can use our ten year old vehicles for next twenty years.

Just create extra jobs and revenue.

One bro said LowRan Wong very brave to tell you your flats are worthless after 99 years.

He not brave but no choice as many flats nearing lease expiry. Also cannot kick the can further down the road.

As previous LIARS had conned you long enough and he been the last man to hold this post got to be the Messenger.

    Wat u say 50% true n 50% untrue lah.

E.g. my CPF although not that much, I have checked n calculated with CPF staff that I can withdraw about 50% of my CPF when I reach 55 -- if I want to.

The annual interest for my Medisave is more than enough to pay for my Medishield Life premium --- i.e. I have helped myself to the point where the govt now pays for my hospital insurance.

The problem is not cpf lock up your money. The problem is they allow cpf to be used for property in the 1st place.

Some of the things I agree that are problematic or have become problematic:
    - HDB "asset enhancement"
    - COE
    - inadequacies in public healthcare ... too much taxpayer money spent on fancy buildings & top mgmt & constant wayang BPR, and not enough in the actual delivery of healthcare to lower income.
    - Temasek & GIC
    - Foreigner floodgates & "FTs"
    - Education system ... overstressed but mediocre results in working world.
    - NS system.

So what if they are mediocre but are paid millions, if they can get elected?

And why those good ones, eg Chee Soo Juan, not elected? Or did not stand for election?

Why? I thought WP's smart Low Thia Khiang already explained what, although he speaks in general.

It is because Chee Soon Juan's party SDP is not ready to be govt. It's that simple.

If Chee Soon Juan is voted in as MP, not only him but also his residents will sure kena tekan if PAP is still the govt with 90% majority seats.

So why ask for trouble by voting Chee Soon Juan?

What can Chee Soon Juan do as opposition MP if PAP still controls 90% or more of the seats in Parliament?

Even if Chee Soon Juan talk a lot of sense, it will be just talk only. Talk but without power where got use?

  15. All these problems are actually the result of legs opening too wide for foreigners to come in with families and all. Imagine having more than a third of the population of foreigners fighting for jobs, housing, transport, water etc. It is not that we are totally against immigrants, but there must be a limit to what this small little island can accommodate. We are unlike big countries like Australia, where a few million makes little difference to land space. And even then, they have limits to accepting immigrants.

These foreigners, making up a third of the population, have put all the strain on infrastructures like housing causing them to become so expensive, trains that are so packed that they missed stopping at stations during morning peak hours, cars that contributed to traffic jams even on highways, hospitals that have no beds for patients waiting along passageways.

And to top it all is the CPF ruling that their money does not belong to them, while foreigners can claim the full amount of what they contributed when they leave for good as theirs to keep.

Locals have to pay the price dying for the defence of the country while foreigners, employers and the Government reap all the benefits. A Government by the people, for the people? Laughable!

    Laughable, but it's the reality.

Locals not happy and can emigrate, already emigrated.

Locals not happy but cannot emigrate, no choice stay and suffer and at most kpkb. They also cannot make the Sinkie opposition ready to be govt, let alone a better govt than PAP.

So no choice majority Sinkies voted for PAP to remain as govt and make some (not all lah) suffer.

And those smart Sinkies who can make lots of money will enjoy life or suffer less lah.

In fact PAP, although quite screw up, have policies that favour Sinkies, including new Sinkies, who are smart to make lots of money to enjoy life here despite the high cost of living. And many succeeded, enjoy life here and of course vote for PAP.

So whether local or foreigner, just be smart lah.

It's just for the sake of slightly better salary than what I can get elsewhere. Not that the salary is high in the 1st place. My last drawn salary when I stopped in 2015 only $4.8K for the stress & shit work hours.

If not for my many years of interest in investing & war stocks etc, today I will still be stuck in shitty jobs & KPKB, money no enough.

Now, I can shake legs collect dividends that is way more than what I need to spend.

I also am lucky in being satisfied with a paid-up HDB & not go chasing after condo upgrading. Although not as cheap as those who bought HDB in the 1980s & earlier, but at least my HDB was cheap enough for me to finish paying in less than 4 years.

Most of my savings go into investing instead of paying the banks & developers for expensive condos. Now after 20+ years of investing, I'm reaping the rewards liao.

  30. Another Glaring Failure of Values:

    The Tale of Two Funerals

Two high-profile funerals took place recently. One was for CFC Aloysius Pang who was given a full military honours ceremony. The other was for Ben Goi, son of Popiah King Sam Goi. Coincidentally, both Pang and Goi had TV celebrity partners. TV actor Pang’s girlfriend is actress Jayley Woo. Ben Goi’s wife is another TV actress Tracy Lee.

But this was where the similarities ended and a stark difference in who turned up and who did not at the wakes set tongues wagging.

Only National Development Minister Lawrence Wong turned up for Pang’s wake.

Ministers Heng Swee Keat, Masagos Zulkifli and Josephine Teo, as well as former foreign minister George Yeo, were seen at Ben Goi’s wake. Businessman Sam Goi, Ben’s father, was active in PAP grassroots work, and recently stepped down as chairman of the Ulu Pandan Citizens’ Consultative Committee. Hence, the strong Cabinet turnout. Understandable.

Each wake by itself was really not an issue. But because they happened to occur around the same time, the contrast was glaring. Pang died on duty. Many say Defence Minister Ng Eng Heng, SMS Dr Maliki Osman or SMS Heng Chee How should have made the effort for the NSman beyond paying respects at Paya Lebar Airbase where his body was received. Any worry about setting a precedent for every NSman death seems unnecessary. How many deaths are there going to be in peacetime and what’s so unimportant about going to the wakes of the few NSmen killed in service? These men have sacrificed their lives for the nation.

    From Sense and Sensibility.

I think they want to be consistent and to be fair lah. Maybe they also did not attend the wakes of previous NSmens who died in service. So why be special for Aloysius just because he was a celebrity?

As for Lawrence Wong, he was previously minister of culture, community and youth which is in charge of TV and broadcasting so that's perhaps why he attended Aloysius wake. Lawrence Wong can also perform as an artiste, u know. I ever saw him play guitar and sing at a public event.

  36. @ whiners and whingers,

This is not the government's fault entirely. People who refuse to take personal responsibility and refuse to learn how to think critically will reap the consequences.

    1. Public housing: It should never have changed to being "market based" and then a measure of people's net worth. You down own an HDB --- no one ever does. What you "own" is a contract aka a LEASE, which is (stated very clearly) TIME DECAYING.
govt says that "HDB is an asset". If you are foolish enough to believe a complete FICTION, and not think critically --- well, you die, your problem.

    2. CPF --- Again, a lack of critical thinking skills will get to to believe all sorts of FICTION about CPF. The design was flawed from the beginning. Because of the ageing population problems, thanks in part to the "Stop At Two" campaign in the 1960s-70s, they had to "tinker" with the system and "re-engineer" so that it:

    i) doesn't run out of money
ii) Singapore doesn't turn into a welfare state

    3. University education: the world is drowning in "qualification inflation". Most university courses are USELESS and only exists to prolong the lifetime employment of unproductive people devoid of marketable skills (tenured professors, administrators etc). Let the people from the "cheaper cuntries" work for less money for the jobs.

    4. Public transport system: Parts of it are old. And they are being fixed. Don't like it? Walk or grow wings and fly. Or take Gojek/ Grab/ Taxi. You don't "have to" take a train. There are alternatives. (You are ultimately responsible for your own fucking life, and breakdowns/ malfunctions are part of life)

    5. Sovereign funds are sovereign funds. All of them have varying degrees of "secrecy".

    6. Compulsory health insurance: RB thinks they are "failures". They haven't run long enough for anyone to judge them yet. They are there to protect people from themselves --- I.e. their poor critical thinking skills.

    7. Bankrupt political system. "The People Get The Government They Deserve", which means the state of politics lies directly in the hands of The People. Don't blame the government: they (a minority) are chosen by the rest of the people (the majority).

    8. Healthcare: As adults, we are expected to pay our way thru life. For ourselves and our dependents we pay for food, clothes, a place to live, transport and communications, further education...everything. Therefore it is reasonable to expect to pay something for our health and medical needs. Singapore public healthcare system is the best in the world. ( my opinion from anecdotal experience of other failing national health systems)

Despite Singapore working so darn well, the lack of vigilance by The Sheeple has caused their cuntry to be lost and taken over by the people they vote in again and again. So, about 30 years ago, Singapore ceased being a cuntry to me and changed into a HOTEL instead.

This suits me just fine. I don't entangle myself into any of the local bullshit, I can enjoy the "entertainment" provided FOC by complainers and "negative spirits", and if it gets too heavy, I just head for the airport and fly the fuck off.

Singapore, best fucking HOTEL ever! 🤡

You talk about Peter Lim --- those r 100s millions buggers who love the limelight n buying football teams like masak masak. I only have 1+M in my portfolio n savings, plus another few hundred K in cpf. U be surprise there r a lot of people like me in S'pore --- many r still working n climbing the corporate ladder.

U can say I'm one of the rarer ones coz I don't own car, never upgrade property --- but focus on building passive income.

I actually have very little assets in S'pore -- only a disposable HDB n CPF. The rest are mobile -- my family n almost all my savings n portfolios in overseas holdings. This has worked well for me over the past 10+ years.

Any sinkie can be like me (in fact easier for those younger n better educated). It's just whether you're motivated enough or not.

    >> U be surprise there r a lot of people like me in S'pore <<

No, I'm not surprised, but such people do exist --- more than what one would expect. One thing for certain: can't judge a book by its cover. Many very quiet, they don't kpkb, just do whatever that needs doing, and get on with life, don't waste money on frivolity and over-consumption, stylo-milo and yaya papaya.

  45. Actually it's people like Virgo that the war stocks guy can slowly build up his stocks portfolio. Most ppl treat stocks like casino, hit and run for fast profits. But reality is that most of the time end up buy high sell low, or buy low sell lower. Majority don't have the patience and the acumen and the balls and the perseverance to succeed in stocks (or any other investments) for the long term.

  47. @957pm

    Hahaha no worries!

I get a chuckle at the insults n curses at me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's their life n money (or lack thereof) LOL!

I'll go back to giving my irritating snide war stocks comments.

Definitely more fulfilling than giving hints as to how motivated average Sinkies can achieve financial independence way before 60, and avoid becoming an online KPKBer or Hong Lim Park crybaby.

  50. @ “Haters gonna hate”

One consistent thing about “online KPKBers and Hong Lim cry babies” (wonderful “zingers” from WSG), is that they exist only to HATE. And there’s nothing to be done except get on with your life, as “Haters gonna hate”

Being born Singaporean is something no one has control over. It is just bloody GOOD LUCK, to be born in a rapidly growing cuntry, replete with resources for anyone who has the will to make a damn good “go” at life.

And it is sad (and HILARIOUS at the same time) that so many people don’t step up and take advantage of such GOOD LUCK, choosing instead to blame everyone for every conceivable “problem” they encounter.

Hating on people just because they’re successful or worse --- more successful than you --- is just immature stuff.

Anyway, enjoy your Saturday afternoon bitch-fests at Hong Lim aka “Hater’s Convention”. May your vapid outbursts and dereliction of personal responsibility continue to bear no fruit. 😂🤣
