Tin pot dictators with tin can brains

The western media are having a field day demonising and discrediting China and its BRI projects as one that would turn countries into debt owing to China and in worse case surrendering the projects to China in the end. It is all China’s fault and it is all China’s scheme of things, to make these countries in debt?

Is this true? How many countries and their leaders would want to be debt ridden willingly without a gun pointing at their heads and with all the time in the world to use their best men and best brains to negotiate a project to their benefits? China’s BRI projects and infrastructure investments in foreign countries are projects that were negotiated between two willing parties that have seen the goodness of the projects to go ahead. Only sick and idiotic leaders would sign away their national interests to China willingly. The terms and conditions of such projects were carefully negotiated on an equal paper terms.

This is unlike imperialism and colonialism of the West when they came, they saw and they conquered. The locals and natives have no say. The West came and decided what they wanted and took everything they wanted, even enslaving the natives and ruled over them. How is this compare to the present China BRI and infrastructure projects? China bullying the unwilling partners into submission, into debt? How many fools believe in this western myth?

Every leader of an independent country that agreed to participate in the BRI or infrastructure projects went in with their eyes wide open and has carefully thought through before signing on the papers. China can only offer to invest, to build and to finance at terms that are favourable to the other party and the projects must be seen as beneficial to the other parties.

The western poisonous narrative is that these leaders are idiots, cannot think and easily duped by China or simply blind. So they were taken for a ride by China. There are some other possibilities like corrupt leaders that think of their own pockets first and country last. There are also tin pot leaders or dictators with brains made of tin cans, empty and making a lot of noise when rattled. When you have leaders with a tin can brain, can you blame China for failures in the successful management of the projects or failure to finance the projects they wanted and signed with China?

Big infrastructure projects involved big capital commitments and these can only be recoverable over many years or decades. In China, many projects would be loss making initially and would only breakeven over several decades. Not many countries can build huge infrastructure projects and finance them with ready cash. It is like buying a property, it has to be financed over 30 or 50 years. And there are projects that would at best breakeven but their real contributions are in other areas and industries like highways and railroads.

The logic and reasoning of Mahathir over the debt of Malaysia incurred by Najib are simply hogwash. These projects are meant to be long term and financed over the long term. And the benefits are there over the long term, especially the Malacca port that would serve the same purpose as the Gwadar port in Pakistan and Piraeus port in Greece. It benefits Pakistan, Greece and China. Only tin pot leaders would think China or any country would pour in money to build and finance projects that would benefit other countries and not China or themselves. Najib’s big plan could be compromised by the falling oil prices as that was where his money was coming front to finance these projects. Did he have other contingency plans should oil prices fell drastically and unable to finance his projects? Did he over budgeted?

The cancellation of the east coast high speed train would scuttle the reasons for the Malacca port and the huge train manufacturing plant in KL. They are all inter related as part of the BRI. Pulling off one big piece would bring down the whole plan. Tin pot leaders would not be able to understand the complexities of big plans except one at a time. They called this single factor analysis. They cannot grasp anything more than 1 when they have tin cans as brains.

So, is it the fault of China or countries that failed to do their sums right to have joint projects with China in the BRI? Or is it the fault of tin pot brain leaders? Even tin pot leaders would not be stupid enough to willingly sign contracts with China or anyone else that would not benefit their countries, unless their arms are twisted, beholden and a colony or semi colony like Japan and South Korea and several others of the American Empire.

Indonesia and the Philippines are going ahead with multi billion dollar projects with China and clearly know the consequences to avoid a debt trap. This can only happen if they did their sums and financing right. They cannot come back and blame China latter when they mismanaged or done their sums wrongly in the future. At this moment both govts are very happy with the deals with China, fair and square. How else could it be for them to sign if the deals are not favourable to them and did meet their needs and interests?

But the West would be sounding for alarm that these two govts are running themselves into debt traps set by China. Are these govts made of fools?

PS. After the foolish Mahathir cancelled China’s high speed train and other major projects linked to the BRI, Malaysia has gone back to China for help to make Malacca the port of call for China’s merchant fleet and be the centre of the BRI in the region, replacing Singapore. This is after the recent spat with Singapore over the sea dispute. Would China say yes when the other projects that were part of the BRI were cancelled that would make the Malacca port irrelevant, a misfit? Tin can brains and tin can thinking.

  1. Unfortunately there are still many sick, idiotic and corrupt leaders that still believe in the propaganda of the US and the West.

How many countries have their territories taken over by force by the Chinese to build military bases? Or how many countries have China colonised when they could have done so many centuries ago when China was strong? In fact it is the West and the Japanese trying to colonise China all along. They still harbour that ambition, but China is no longer weak with internal strife to succumb to such evil intentions.

Even Mahathir knows that the Chinese came to Malacca centuries before the West and left without laying a finger or thought of colonising the place. China was then a naval power. When the Portuguese came, they saw, left and came back with an army with the intention of taking over Malacca. This is the mentality of the Whites and their so called discovery of continents that belongs to others.

And again, unfortunately, there are still sick, idiotic and corrupt leaders that believe Satan, masquerading as an angel, attempting to destroy them by pouring scorn on the help that China is offering to these countries.

BRI has been described as the largest infrastructure project initiated by China in the history of mankind. China has the support of 67 sovereign nations which joined the AIIB.

Dr M had once been anti-West. This year he visited China to renegotiate the $30 billion deals clinched by Najib. Dr M had expected an easy win. He asked for a $40 billion loan. President Xi pointed out the flawed logic of Dr M wanting a loan to repay the Chinese for a $15 billion project, the ECRL, which is funded 85% by China's EXIM bank at well below market interest rates with a 7-year moratorium on repayment. Dr M resorted to anti-China rhetoric which backfired and he returned home empty-handed. Fast forward to his recent visit to Singapore. He also returned home empty-handed. He is now venting his anger on Singapore and trying to clobber the little red dot by trying to restart China's projects to teach Singapore. The 4G leaders are in for a rough ride if the PAP wins the next GE.

  3. @ entertainment value

Tin pot dictators have the greatest entertainment value.

Wait, wait...you haven’t seen the end yet. Once Mahathir and UMNO kiss and make up, the over-paid Singapore elite govt is going to get a very hot dose of Malaysian curry. 🀣

Have to respect The French Yellow Vests. They WON! They put their handsome dictator’s feet to the fire, and even got him to ADMIT that he was WRONG. 😳

    Simply amazing ACTION-BASED PEOPLE POWER.

Even the police eventually took off their helmets and pledged solidarity with the protesters. And the firemen too.

Forget the theory that the opposition will answer all of your issues. You need to take to the streets as people power and hold the govt you’re paying A LOT OF MONEY FOR to act in the interest of THE PEOPLE, not bullshit their way and allude that “the future of the cuntry is more important”.

Sometimes violent civil disobedience is the only valid option available, especially when the election system is “legally rigged” in whose favour? You guessed it.

  4. China knows Mahathir well enough to trust him. Mahathir can always go back on his word on the flip of a coin. Take the case of ICERD. Under pressure by the Malays he went back on his word. Would you trust a person who made a pledge at the UN and failed to honour his word when his back is turned?

Mahathir's words are not worth it's weight in dirt. Even his written agreements are not worth the paper it is written on. But he thinks he can get away with it every time. At home maybe, but not on the international stage.

The Chinese have long memories and will not forgive what he did to Chinese investments in Malaysia. Remember the Chinese saying that 'righteous men taking revenge ten years down the road is not too late'. Mahathir perhaps already knows why he is spurned trying to get aid from the Chinese.

Yes, can’t trust any words form Mahathir. That’s his signature. That’s why he’s popular---he can change on a whim.

Don’t think the wiley old political operator is a fool; he’s nobody’s fool. He can be “garang” and flip of China...WHY?

Because Malaysia has been courting rich Middle Eastern partners for DECADES. No doubt some of the individuals are still smarting from Jho Low’s antics with 1MDB, but Mahathir, believe me, will woo them over.

Dr M has on more than one occasion, proclaimed---unapologetically---his ANTI SEMITISM. It is loud and clear. Have you seen the sizes of the Sovereign Wealth Funds of the rich Middle Eastern caliphates and kingdoms? Collectively, they are several times the amount China has to spend.

Mahathir is a cunt. Unfortunately he’s also a clever cunt, superbly versed in the art, craft and science of realpolitik.

  8. Every country and their leaders have the right to act to safeguard their sovereignty and be wary of gift horses, be they Chinese, Americans or others.

Conversely, some country (or politicians) may welcome foreign investment, but such investment may turn up in the pockets of the politicians instead of benefitting the country and the people.

The talk with people from our neighbour is that every investment, especially in infrastructure projects, is an opportunity for some politician to further line their pocket.

    ReplyDelete
  9. What has the Middle Eastern caliphates done to help other countries with their massive sovereign wealth fund? Most probably used to buy US treasuries now that Japan and China are selling theirs.

Mahathir will try to woo them over, but time is not on his side. He has just a little more than a year to go, if you believe him. And unfortunately giving aid is not the forte of the Middle Eastern caliphates, other than funding terrorism.

  10. Ches L, 10.13 you are right.

We just have to look no further than our neighbour's backyard.

During Marco's tenure, where did all the aid to help the Philippines went to? During Suharto's
reign, any project has to have a cream off that goes into the pockets of family members. His wife had the nickname of 'Madam 10%' for nothing?

And up North, the story continues. Getting rid of corruption or just rewriting the script for the sequel with new actors?

  11. @ 1024---The Mahathir Playbook

I take it you haven't been to KL/ Putrajaya for sometime. I go there ALOT. There are many foreign players in Malaysia's capital structure; Japanese, Koreans...plenty.

#1 Middle Easterners have been "welcomed" in Malaysia for nearly 30 years. My Middle Eastern friends LOVE visiting Malaysia, because they see it as a devout Islamic cuntry, but moderate enough to be able to enjoy themselves, plus their money goes far. Many businesses---small, medium and large, are owned by Middle Easterners...whether it is an Islamic bank or hedge fund or stalls and cafes selling Turkish Coffee or kebabs. They do well in Malaysia, and there is no "friction" from the locals, these foreigners are made to feel very welcome.

Mahathir also scored a lot of "points" in the Islamic world when he helped the Muslims targets in the ethnic cleansing in Srebrenica. Many Bosnian Muslims were allowed to emigrate to Malaysia.

    #2 from the Mahathir Playbook

In order to woo back UMNO, but in ways that still protects his power, what could Mahathir do?

Simple. Start some territorial shit with Singapore. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" concept. So Singapore govt gabrak kalam kabut, Mahathir shows UMNO "see, I'm sure you'll agree I act in the cuntry's interest". Dr M has also made it quite clear that he "empathises" with Singaporeans---saying that we have no democracy. It is THE SINGAPORE GOVERNMENT which he focuses his antics on. Also a SMART PLAY.

Mahathir doesn't need China lah. Wait wait, he'll put out another "rabbit" when he accuses China of mistreating the Muslims in the Uighur regions. When he thinks the time is right, He'll play this card.

Dr M flirts around. He knows when to kiss and make up. Such a leader will not win trust. Only Muslim countries patronize and humour him. Now age 93, Singapore can wait for him to kick the bucket. Using delaying tactics will suffice. He has always been trying to bully and intimidate Singapore. His tactics are anachronistic and will not work this time. Just let a sleeping fox lie.

  17. RB,

You totally don't understand tin pot dictators. It is precisely bcoz they are tin pot dictators that they want Trillions of dollars from China --- a portion of the $$$$$$$ will drop into their pockets & bank accounts. Enough to become multi-billionaire. After a few years, fuck off to tax haven countries with no extradition treaties. The country left to otang the trillions of dollars which is now none of the ex-tin pot dictator's business. Ah Jeep was too slow & too confident & too unprepared & too greedy to escape in time.

Mat thinks China Xi's brain oso like Mat's tin can brain. Might as well ask China to build for free, cheaper than built and pay and still must give more money to Mat.

  19. Mahathir criticised Myanmar for racially discriminating against the Rohingya who are Muslims. But he forgets that in Malaysia he is doing exactly the same thing with his discriminating racist policies for decades, of putting one race above others to hold on to power.

He should clean up his own act at home first, before he starts criticising Myanmar or China for mistreating the Muslims in the Uighur Region. But I think, even if he is Mahathir, he does not have the marbles to do anything like doing away with the Bumiputera first policy, if the ICERD fiasco turnaround is any indication. Many are saying that he never walk the talk, only knows how to backtrack and doing the Indian snake dance.

If Mahathir is still thinking of how to protect his power and hang on indefinitely, then the two year promise is just another of his lie and Anwar must be prepared for another big surprise. Malaysians will have to pay the price for making the Hobson's choice between the devil and the deep blue sea.

  21. If the Saudi prince can give Najib so many billions without strings attached, and told Najib to use the money any way he wishes, why is Mahathir going around to beg for loans from Japan and China? Just talk to the Saudis, since they are all members of the Muslim brotherhood, and get free money from them without having to repay.

Why is the wily old fox suddenly not so wily? Beats me!
