Hsien Loong announced the stepping down of 5 senior party leaders to
clear the swamp for the young turks to take over. Chee Hian, Tharman,
Boon Wan, Yaacob and Swee Say all stepped down from the CEC. The only
CEC member left that is above 60 is Hsien Loong, now 66.
The first thought that came to my mind is that Chee Hian and Tharman are
unlikely to be the next PM. Their fate is as good as sealed. Would they
still hang on to their appointments as DPMs, or would they also step
aside and maybe given the great titles of senior ministers or ESM? But
this is just irrelevant if one is to see what role Chok Tong is playing,
creating jobs himself to keep himself busy but out of the party agenda.
Traditionally, anyone that is going to be the PM must remain in the CEC
as the Secretary General or maybe the assistant Sec Gen. There has been
no precedence that someone that is not a CEC member could become the
PM. But then again exceptional situation may result in exceptional
development. If Chee Hian and Tharman remain as Dep PMs after stepping
down from the CEC, in a crisis situation, or an abnormal situation, it
would be normal and natural for a Dep PM to step in as the PM when the
need arises. In the current context, this is very likely and very
possible. The fate of Chee Hian and Tharman becoming the next PM is
still not completely sealed as long as they remain as the Dep PMs.
Should they be asked to step down as DPM, then the gate is closed, more
or less.
Let’s watch the next move that will determine their fate. It would be
completely sealed if a 4G PM designate is appointed as the DPM. By then
Tharman should apply for a permanent job in the IMF instead and make
himself more useful and meaningful.
The future is very very bleak for ordinary Singaporeans.

ReplyDeleteExcellent. That move has weakened the PAP. The chances of them being unseated from incumbency has just increased.
However, I read something else at play here. Most of the problems or negative externalities the cuntry is experiencing is due to PAP policies, originaly thought to shore up the status of the nation and its peoples. This is a classic case of not knowing the "unkwown unknowns" when designing and implementing those policies.
For e.g. take the HDB. When they decided to create an "asset" out of public housing, the prices shot thru the roof. The "asset" is however, a time-sentive financial instrument, and people have poured in most of their income into what is essentially an "asset" created out of thin air. They don't own the building nor the land. They own a fucking LEASE.
So public housing is an absolute mess. So is CPF, MediSave, ElderShield, local employment prospects, the over-supply of tertiary institutions churning out jobless graduates....please feel free to add to the list.
On the surface, Singapore is the awesome rocking envy of the world. However life is not sweet for many Singaporeans. There is no job security, and when they have a job, a significant portion goes to pay for an over-priced LEASE on a pigeon-hole in the sky.
What would I do if I were the PAP? I've had a great run, my salary has been huge for decades, I sit on management boards drawing director's fees....all in all life has been very sweet for me, and I've amassed a personal fortune to make an African or Indonesian tin-pot dictator JEALOUS. All done 100% LEGALLY.
So as I survey the current lay of the land, I see all these problems created as "unintended consequences" from my party's policies over decades.
"Stop At Two" campaign to limit the birth rate in the 1970's resulted in an aging population in the 2000's. So I had to open the borders and let in as many foreigners...enticing them with scholarships and jobs at the expense of the locals.
Cock up, after cock up and now I see a BIG FAT MESS. It's way too hard to fix, and could take a generation or two.
So FUCK IT. Retire. Step down. I have multi millions. I have property portfolio...including overseas real estate. I have other investments, really, I don't have to work, and really I don't have to flog a dead horse and then take the blame because no one can fix an unfixable problem.
What to do? Hand over the shop to the arrogant youngsters whom no one likes anyway. Let them lose the GE, or at least lose some seats.
Let the next bunch of buggers come in and form govt, then see them kalam-kabut as they try to fix these issues without inflicting pain and losses on the people and the cuntry.
Me? I'm out of here. The history books and numerous articles have already praised my tenure in govt. Maybe I could become a "consultant" and charge other govtd BIG BUCKS for my "insights".
@ citizens
Don't think the average PAP person is going to cry if they lose the next election. Many of them might be RELIEVED, because to fix Singapore is no fucking joke.
The quality of PAP Leadership is, like all other political parties in the world that stayed too long in power, diminishing steadily.
ReplyDeleteThe fate of Daft Sinkies and Sheeples are doomed!
Overseas properties are hot cakes for those who have the funds and funs.
Singapore's meteoric rise has to fizzle out like a falling star. This is the way Nature reign.
This is the way it's going to be.
PM Lee has replaced his 3G guards with 4G goondus. The PAP is now at the crossroads. None of his 4G heirs impressed. They lack charisma and qualities of leadership. This PAP CEC comprises the most nondescript members in living memory. PM Lee must take the blame. His dereliction of duty makes Singapore and the citizens face an uncertain future with less and less confidence.
ReplyDeleteA goondu has recruited many yes-sir goondus.
ReplyDeleteThe way to go down, down, down for sinkies.
Retired very rich ministers can now continue their talk cock sing song from the sideline once in a while, sit on a few boards, play golf, tour around the world, enjoy their Gcbs in Spore n Melbourne...n still collect monies. Sinkies you died your own business, we the pappies have done very very well for ourselves and our party cuntry lah.
Both Ah Teo & Tharman probably out & facing retirement jobs soon.
ReplyDeleteOne of the next DPMs will be Shamu.
There will be another 1-2 new DPMs (Chan & maybe Heng) --- these will be the potential new PM.
Anyway no matter who they put, even if it's a dog (like this) the policies will remain similar.
Karaoke operators would be doing brisk business. These retired ministers are so rich and so good singing Karaoke you can bet they will spend their time and money making themselves happy and Karaoke owners very happy also.
ReplyDeleteToo little too late. That probably sums up the belated replacement of the old guards in the CEC with newbies. No outstanding leader with the potential to spearhead positive changes is detected in the line-up. Political and economic uncertainties will be at an all-time high as the PAP grapples with the problem of succession. The oppressive and inequitable system which the PAP had perpetuated can no longer stand the test of time. It has to be dismantled in the face of challenges and demands for change.
ReplyDeleteThan an at least has options to work overseas as his skill is needed but tch like many others are either provided jobs in GIC or Temasek or go unemployed as their skills are useless in private sector.😀
ReplyDeleteThe newly "elected" CEC members are as follows:
ReplyDelete1) Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong
2) Home Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam
3) Health Minister Gan Kim Yong
4) Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat
5) Culture, Community and Youth Minister Grace Fu
6) Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing
7) Environment and Water Resources Minister Masagos Zulkifli
8) Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Indranee Rajah
9) Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Ng Chee Meng
10) Education Minister Ong Ye Kung
11) Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin
12) Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.
Who were the voters? How the election was carried out? Who influence who to vote who? Was there any hanky and panky? NOBODY REALLY KNOWS! Everything was done in SECRECY!
SO, HELP US GOD!
Maybe Shanmu and Bala become the next Deputy Prime Ministers.
ReplyDeleteKnowing how honest and upright the PAP is, everything must have been done transparently without any trickery or cheatings, no gerrymandering for sure.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteThe Papies do NOT trust OYK.They been villains had cautious minds. Not to be backsstab as they been doing to others.
OYE's father is a staunch BS Leader and kept his principles against the PAP.
Son joined them.So they still scared of a Trojan Horse in their midst.
Thhe might be a turning event when their own disgruntled Cadre msembers may spilt and stand against them.
In any organistations there are many ambitious ones who are been sidelined for advancement will quit to further their own ambitions.
Rb, from what I read is that the members can only vote based on the list provided by the CEC. In another word, the members have no right to nominate. Only CEC can nominate and members vote based on the list. I believe this is similar to China communist party system.😀
ReplyDeleteI thought so, they be given a list without the 5 senior ministers asked to step down.
ReplyDeleteHow many names in it not sure. Could be 12 could be more. Just an educated guess.
Fix...fixed...seat warmer chiu cheng welcome hongyi n jinx...into the inevitable downfall of greed, obssession of money n power.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteWith the latest list of CEC members, what do you think will be PAP % at the next GE?
(a) 80% (b) 70% (c) 60% (d) 50.1%
My gamble is (a).
What say you?
Anon 2.01 hit the nail on the head. The system is mutating into a system more communist than democracy.
ReplyDeleteThe 70% wanted it, voted for it and will have to live with it. Red dot is redder than you think.
Actually Singapore's system very similar to China's system.
ReplyDeleteChina has state-owned enterprises (SOEs); Singapore has government-linked companies (GLCs).
The US is being very hypocritical when they charged China for unfair trade practices because of its government-supported SOEs, but kept mum over Singapore's GLCs.
Amongst some in the trading and financial community, there's a standing "in" joke/ snarky saying:
ReplyDeleteSingapore is the best run and most successful COMMUNIST cuntry in history, and in the world!
The GLC system ensures govt business is PRIVATISED.
ReplyDeleteThat's a much nicer word than "nationalised". When it is privatised other people can "invest", creating a fantastic GRAND ILLUSION.
